really enjoyed this spot! at 8:30 it was pretty steady but we found a place to wait in their ample outdoor seating. the area is super cute and their interior is decorated nicely. i like that they offer some chips and other miscellaneous drinks alongside their sizeable menu. i got their matcha latte w oatmilk after i saw that they offered paru matcha and was pleasantly surprised! it had perfect ratios and was not milky at all. the matcha taste was very good. as someone who loves sweets i could have gotten a bittttttt more sweetener, but it was probably a good standard sweetness for most. my boyfriend's honey vanilla latte was also very good, a bit too sweet but tasted great! we also got a hot black coffee which was good, but my friend's biscoff latte was lacking in biscoff flavor by a lot. it was also less sweet than my bfs honey one, which we were not expecting. otherwise, all the food we got was great! i ended up eating my breakfast burrito at the beach 20 mins after we ordered, but it was still sooooo good. super balanced and for $12 it was a great size for me and my bf to split. would love to come back here! read more

Cute spot for an afternoon pick me up! My hubby wanted to try paru matcha so we came here and the matcha latte was quite good! I also had their avocado toast and it was soo light, healthy, and delicious! Flavor profile was very balanced and perfect for an afternoon snack. Service was great too - we asked someone if they could clear our table and it was done for us within a few seconds! Would stop by again the next time we're in SD! read more

Java Earth is one of my favorite coffee shops in SD!! Both locations are near the beach so what's not to love?! We ordered the new cookie butter latte, banana matchas (1 hot, 1 iced,) and the veggie bagel. You never know if cafes will have good quality food, but I've never ordered anything I don't like! This bagel was delicious, and I've also tried the breakfast burrito which is amazing. Service was great and so speedy! read more

I wanted to go to Paru for a matcha latte, however when I got there a worker informed me that they just closed the cafe portion of the store permanently. However, she mentioned that this cafe served Paru matcha which is why I wanted to try it here. That was a big mistake though since the matcha here was very disappointing. I ordered the banana cream top matcha with oat milk and it was bad. The drink was so milky and tasted like matcha flavored oat milk. The cream top was a thin layer and it tasted so artificial. This was not worth the $8 spent on this drink. Would not recommend. read more

I consider my self a matcha purist and don't usually like sweetened/flavored matcha drinks. But, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the pumpkin cream top goes with a matcha latte. The drink was executed perfectly and the matcha part itself wasn't pre sweetened so mixing in the pumpkin cream didn't make it cloyingly sweet. Shout out to the friendly staff who accommodated my custom requests! We had a perfect start to our day thanks to Java Earth! read more

What I liked about this cafe was that it's in downtown la jolla but in a slightly off side of the super busy brunch spots that there was a good amount of parking and a relaxing vibe to the place. I shouldn't be telling you this, but I think the secret is already out. The banana bread is off the chain. It appears to sell fast, and for good reason. Moist and delicious. I would go out of my way here just for this. The acai bowl is also generously portioned and filling. The drip coffee is meh, but the specialty coffees are great. The service is fast and friendly. The place is tight and cozy. Only about 5 small tables with an indoor seating capacity of maybe 12-15 people. They have 1 table outdoors and a bench inside where you can wait until a table opens. read more

My sister came along with me to San Diego for work from Irvine, and I give her the credit for finding this place. WOW! This place blew me away. Our order: two 20 oz matcha lattes - 10/10 thank you so much for putting the right amount of ice - not too much!! Our matcha lattes did not feel diluted at all. The additional $0.50 we paid for the extra 4 oz was well worth it. Mediterranean bowl - 10/10, what a delicious combination of ingredients! I want to make this at home as a pick me up. It reminded me of the best parts of pesto pasta but without any pasta! Soy Chorizo burrito - 10/10 we were told that the so Cal burrito is also a popular menu item. The personal preference of our cashier was the soy chorizo burrito and it did not fail!! The two are essentially the same except the type of meat (for the most part, so we're told hahaha) What drew us to this place has been the featuring of Parutea's matcha. The matcha quality truly is amazing. It's delicious. The plating was crisp and clean - everything about the restaurant was seamlessly put together. It was a haven for good food and a way to start the morning peacefully! There's a good number of people trickling in as soon as the restaurant opened. The people here are kind, present, and respectful. I'm so grateful for you all. They offer milk alternatives including pistachio milk! The food is cooked to just the right temperature where the flavors stand out because of the temperature at which the food is presented. Came back for their banana cream drinks since my sister is obsessed with the banana cream matcha. I ordered an iced latte with banana cream and in hindsight, I should've added vanilla syrup too since I like my drinks sweet lol. The banana cream was fluffy, sweet and had a good banana flavor. I wish there was more in my drink! Since my drink wasn't sweet enough, I added sweetener and it got better. Service is quick and nice! read more

Came back here after seeing they have a new Banana cream top matcha for the summer and it did not disappoint! I really enjoyed it, you could taste the matcha flavor (and they get their matcha from Paru!), and it wasn't overpowered by the banana cream top. Sweetness was a good level. I ordered the Happy Matcha, which was a matcha with brown sugar and caramel and a bit pricey in my opinion at $7+. I have had matcha at different places and this one just did not taste as good. Very sweet and barely any matcha taste. Tasted more like culinary than ceremonial. The color was also a little off at a very light green. Possible if I get a chance to visit again maybe trying their matcha by itself with no flavor or a coffee. Otherwise, service was fast and was a cute place to work in. read more

My group wanted to try something new as we're not from SD and got six drinks from this location. Let me tell you, the coffee is terrible. The espresso is overly acidic, drinks taste water downed even if you have them right away, & there's hardly any flavor to their flavored lattes and matcha. The baristas also seemed to have a problem with us while we were waiting for our drinks. Every time we looked up from our conversations we were being met with stares and were given attitude as well. read more

This is my second time coming here, and I definitely need to come more often because the coffee is phenomenal. I ordered the seasonal pumpkin cream top latte and it was delicious. The ratio of espresso to milk was to my liking, not too milky and the pumpkin flavor shone through. I also enjoyed the cream top, just wish there was more of it. The shop itself has a coastal aesthetic, and there was some seating both indoors and outdoors. I was also eyeing the other patron's matcha drinks, and will need to come back to try! read more

Seriously one of the cutest coffee shops! Located in central downtown La Jolla but around the corner from the main strip so it isn't too chaotic. There are a few parking spots in front which is nice or street parking seemed easy. There is a cute little patio out front with plenty of seating plus a few seats inside. It has a very modern coastal vibe. Overall just a really aesthetic spot. Their coffee and food is also surprisingly good - I tried their seasonal Dirty Pumpkin Chai with a breakfast burrito and was super happy with my choices. Their overnight oats and egg sandwiches also looked really tasty! I ordered online ahead of time and it was ready when I arrived. They have another location in PB as well which I'll have to try out. Came across this spot when I started a clinical internship nearby. This very quickly became my go to coffee spot even though there are at least 5 others to choose from not far off. The coffee is beautifully balanced and the food is amazing every time. The gluten free bagels here are by far the best I've ever had and I've had a few over the past 5 years. Since the internship ended I went back to my daily living closer to SDSU, I don't frequent the area as much but I make intentional trips to Java Earth just for the great coffee and even more amazing food. 10/10 would recommend this place, and do! read more

What a cool surprise to find this cute coffee shop (with no laptop campers!) in downtown La Jolla yesterday. After my clinical trial visit I always get money and while I love to help science, I love even more to spend the cash on coffee and pastries:). The place is so pristine, clear, white, small yet comfortable inside and outside there are tables and super pleasant with the sun shining. Loved my coffee, my chorizo and cheese croissant (first time having that type), the conversation with Mexican visitors next table and the vibe. First time here. Ordered an ICED LATTE W PISTACHIO MILK... solid, just solid. The coffee has so much depth, richness and flavor. As the depth and richness increases so does the smoothness. The pistachio milk gives it a nice kiss. You taste the pistachio milk but it's not overbearing to the coffee. Doesn't cross boundaries. Service was nice and the ambiance is super chill. Honestly the best coffee in the cove, and I've tried quite a few places around the area. My go to is the honey vanilla latte (hot), and I'm normally a mocha only fan. This place was a real surprise. Okay, yes, the ratings are great, but, they're deserved! I stopped in because it was close and was going to get a drip coffee,, but saw not just a vanilla latte but a honey-vanilla latte and was immediately intrigued. I got the latte and a white chocolate mocha for my wife. MY GOD, they didn't tell me that a mother's love was also an ingredient! The honey-vanilla latte is hands down the most delicious latte I've ever had, and the white chocolate mocha was equally amazing. I don't know what voodoo is being used to make their drinks, but I want to add a sprinkle of it to every element of my life. I know, I know, this review is a little over the top, but for real, the drinks are amazing, and you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't try them for yourself. read more

This is a very nice coffee shop and cafe. I stopped for a cortado with whole milk and also had a cinnamon morning bun. The cortado was pretty good, especially up front, but towards the the end it had a little harshness that I did not care for. The morning bun or sugar bun as the young barista referred to it was good. A little heaving on the sugar and more on the cinnamon would of been nicer. The coffee shop has inside and outside seating. They also make breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and toasts, in addition to the locally baked goods. read more

After going to the PB location for years, i decided to stop by the LJ location after an ortho appointment. Parking was tough in the middle of the day, but there were spots! Java Earth Coffee is located in a little corner mall with plentiful parking on surrounding streets. I had a delicious chocolate cold brew and breakfast burrito. They have limited seating indoors but have a nice outdoor patio area. The service was prompt and friendly. read more

I can't really speak to how "authentic" it is, but I can say it's definitely worth visiting at least once, especially if you're a local.

I'm not totally sure about outlet availability, but it's still a great place to settle in and get some work done. To note, the coffee itself is just okay, and unfortunately the almond croissant wasn't very good when I tried it. That said, the atmosphere is really what makes this place worth visiting. The staff is also pretty nice and welcoming. Overall, come for the great study spot more than the food or coffee.

I ordered a few drinks for my friends and me to try since it was our first time here, and we were heading to the beach after. They hand-whisk their matcha for each drink, which I really appreciate because most matcha spots in San Diego pre-make theirs. I got the regular matcha latte. I assumed it would already be sweetened, but it wasn't, which wasn't a big deal for me since I prefer little to no sweetness. It was still really good: perfect consistency, and you can definitely taste the matcha. My cousin got the matcha cream top (similar to a matcha einspänner), and I loved their vanilla bean syrup(?) that was included in the drink. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. My friends also tried the orange latte, and they were pleasantly surprised by the cream on top. The orange flavor was noticeable but still subtle, and the coffee itself was strong. The syrups balanced everything out nicely. Definitely would come back again!

The strawberry matcha was good -- I'd rate it around a 7/10 (and I say that as a matcha lover). It had a nice flavor, but I've definitely had stronger matcha elsewhere. The black sesame latte was my favorite. You can really taste the sesame, which gave it a rich, nutty flavor that stood out compared to other lattes I've tried. Overall, I'm really happy I found this spot and would come back. Next time, I'd love to try more of their drinks -- especially to compare their sesame latte with others.

After being a regular at Parakeet for the last 6 years, I felt inclined to finally write a review, based purely on appreciation for the all-star team at this location (Kayla, Janelle, Neda, Hailey, Regina, Michelle, Calvin, and all the cooks crushing it in the kitchen daily) and everything they bring to the community. BIG VIBES & Customer Experience Biggest one on the checklist. The energy is always on point from the second I walk in to the second I leave. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming, authentic, and genuinely cares about making the experience top-tier. Also worth noting, they're up at 5 AM to open at 7 AM... which is already heroic. On top of that, this location gets its fair share of entitled, unfriendly, and straight-up rude customers (I've seen it firsthand on the daily). Even then, the ladies and Calvin handle it with patience, professionalism, and still keep the good energy going. That shit is not easy. Attention to Detail Regina and Hailey run a tight operation day to day. Their attention to detail and consistency is honestly unmatched. I've been to plenty of spots around the neighborhood, and no one has it as dialed in as they do. They are also better dressed than other managers in the biz. BIG STYLE POINTS Problem Solving I've watched this team navigate everything--broken equipment, unhappy customers, clogged toilets (lol), bad weather, and difficult delivery drivers yelling at them through Google Translate. And they handle it all without missing a beat and staying composed. This is an extension of the amazing floral show next door and, in fact, when inside Cup of Bloom you have to use the Ring camera to call so someone can come and take your order. Very pleasant as is kind of an open air hidden gem with several metal tables and chairs inside and outside the small patio and it is perfect for a quick catching up with a friend. Don't expect to get high end patisserie but a pleasant green environment to spend some time.
