A former furniture store in the BIrd Rock neighborhood of La Jolla has been converted into this new all-day eatery, Sun Gold Point. There was no signage on the marquee which made the business difficult to locate on first pass. The inside had the feel of a modern diner/cafe with booth style seating, small tables, and two separate countertop areas. A couple of tables were also set up on the sidewalk in front of the suite. Parking was all curbside either on La Jolla Blvd or one of the nearby side streets. Three different menu sheets (breakfast, lunch/dinner, kids) were available at the service counter where you ordered and then took a number to a table. I visited on a weeknight when there was just one other party seated. Three columns with four choices in each one made up the lunch/dinner menu. The categories were Sandwiches, Burritos, and Blates (bowl + plate). From the Blates, I chose the OG Lunch. This was house seasoned tri-tip steak served over white rice with hummus, crispy potatoes, avocado, black beans, and a house salad. Everything was prepared in a neat circle around the serving vessel which was a shallow bowl. Between the rice, beans, avocado, and hummus, the item was quite filling. The steak was cooked medium rare, however there was just three pieces included for the price of nearly $21. The service and follow-up from the staff was on point. For the price and quality of my order, I gave a four star rating for my dining experience at Sun Gold Point. read more

This shop is so wonderful. It has a beautiful and thoughtful design/ decor. They even have a kids play corner! We tried the pastries and vanilla cappuccino. The best vanilla cappuccino I've ever had. It tasted so silky; almost like chocolate. Also had to get a side of bacon for my little guy. It was thick and perfectly crispy. The vibe of this place is so cool! The owners are lovely! Had breakfast there Sunday. The breakfast burritos were delicious and served with grilled vegetables and a lite salsa on the side, a healthier choice. The iced latte's were very good, and were vegan with a combo of oat milk and almond milk I think, it was yummy. The service was excellent. Peter, Jessica and Piper were all courteous and warm. . The diner is very relaxed, nice music played in the background but it was not too loud, you could still hear each other talking. They also sell very plushy sweatshirts, nice clothing and hats. The details like their flatware, stoneware dishes, and glasses with the SG logo are noticeably high quality and stylish. Lastly the Porsche photos and surf board add to the vibe of being in a classic Birdrock diner. We will be back for lunch. read more

We live on a few blocks from this new restaurant. We like to support the Bird Rock businesses to keep the bird Rock community alive and well. However, the coffee here, as noted with other reviews, is just terrible. Espresso's are just bitter and completely done wrong. My wife's latte had that bitter taste even with the milk but as well they somehow put lavender in it making is even worse. Just skip any of their coffee's, go to DoDo's a half block down for good coffee (and tasty food). As far as the food we found it was very very good. Seems good quality ingredients and taste good for the two items we had. A little pricey but seems everywhere now adays is much more than it should be. read more

Went here for the first time today and was blown away by the food quality, decor, and general vibe. The attention to detail is impressive all the way down to the quality of the dishware. There is indoor/outdoor seating and the kids area in the back corner. The service was great and the staff was knowledgeable about allergens for menu items. I was able to get a delicious gluten free salmon meal and my dad got a sandwich that he said was the best he's had in years (the Gold Point sandwich)! Super yummy and definitely a new staple... I came here twice and still don't like their coffee. First time I came here I tried their maple latte and I just really didn't care for the taste. Something was really off about it. They make their own dairy free milk and I am not sure if that is what ruined it or not. I decided to come back about 2 weeks later to give them a second chance and tried their cinnamon toast latte and it was still bitter and left a bad taste in my mouth. It's a cute little cafe and I will try again (only because now I have $30 worth of gift cards bc I came during their soft opening). I am hoping their food is better than their coffee read more

Great new locally owned and operated diner. I had the French toast and haven't stopped thinking about since. Coffee was not too sweet but still full of flavor which is hard to do. I tried the homemade nut milk which was amazing and I can really appreciate a place that cares about using quality ingredients enough to make their own alternative milks.
