    Real good matcha with oatmilk

Walked by Ferlini while in the area and stopped in since I had never seen it. First thing I noticed was how cute they have decorated their little space. Beautiful vibe with very nice carpentry work; someone has a good eye for design there. I ordered a matcha from a very nice gentleman, who I believe was the owner and he also gave me a glass of coconut water free of charge too. My friends got a latte and the strawberry banana smoothie which were all very tasty. Then, the owner brought us this pastry, it was such a kind gesture since we had been talking about how cute they were since we arrived. Beautiful place with a good vibe and great owners who care about creating an amazing cafe. Highly recommend you give them a try and check out their amazing pastries too!

Ferlini Coffee is the latest to open shop. Located on Pearl St., easy to spot as there's always a line of people a few doors away for tacos or bagels and street parking can be a challenge. First time stepping foot inside this smallish cafe, which made the best of limited space with nicely decorated interior: banquet style seats and marble top cafe tables. Scintillating ball of ornate glass lighting is bellisimo but had sloppy exposed wiring. Walls of vinyl records while cool background music but didn't play anything Italian classics as one would expect from an Italian themed cafe. Additionally, the cool theme is diminished as soon as you see people a few feet away sloppily eating their burger and fries, since there is no wall separating the burger shop from this cafe. The counter had a case of empanadas that looked not so fresh as it was under a heating lamp :( The pastries did not look appealing either. The drink menu looked promising and I ordered their signature drink: Tiramisu latte iced. The only staffer was non conversational but was efficient as he prepared the drink. This iced Tiramisu latte looked better than it tasted. In fact, the truth of the matter is it was a complete disappointment: lacked the strong espresso I expected and had zero tiramisu flavor. All that brown powder on top had zero taste of chocolate and was too much that one could choke on it :(( I told the staff about this horrible drink and he was clueless, possibly didn't even understanding English. He should have offered to make a new drink or add a shot of espresso but no such offer. I was livid, what a waste of time and $$. Despite this nicely decorated cafe, their signature tiramisu latte was so flavorless and weak that will probably make this my first and last time here...Ultimo, Ciao!!

For a while, this downtown La Jolla suite was solely occupied by a vendor selling empanadas. You can still purchase such savory pastries, however the business is now Ferlini Coffee. There were very limited parking spaces out front so the best bet was to find a curbside spot on a side street. A few small round tables were placed in front a cushioned bench for seating. Hot and cold drinks (e.g. smoothies), pastries, cookies, and other desserts were on the menu in addition to empanadas that were on display inside a heated case at the service counter. Not all six empanada types were available during my visit. I selected the Beef, Chicken, and Sweet Corn & Basil for my order along with a Strawberry Smoothie. The worker (owner?) was kind enough to include a complimentary Chocolate Chip Walnut cookie. The empanadas were of decent size, and the best of the trio was the Sweet Corn & Basil. Maybe because it had a sweeter filling than the two meaty varieties. The smoothie was typical while the cookie was soft and chewy. I enjoyed my experience at Ferlini Coffee to give it a four star rating.

Stumbled upon this gem on Pearl St and I'm so glad I did. The coffee was rich and well-crafted, the service was warm and attentive, and the ambiance had that perfect cozy-but-stylish vibe. Highly recommend if you're around San Diego!

    tiramisu latte

Cute little coffee spot! Our drinks were delicious, the tiramisu latte and strawberry matcha were made to perfection ! We ordered a yummy strawberry croissant, which was still light and not overly sweet just perfect balance. The owner was very sweet and made sure everything was made to our liking! This place is a hidden gem for sure!

    Salted brown butter oat latte

I ordered the salted brown butter oat latte and it is SO divine, it's not too sweet and the saltiness adds a really nice flavor! The service was very friendly and homely, I felt like I was in a small cafe in Europe. While this cafe is slightly easy to overlook, it exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to come back!

Great service and friendly owner! He took the time to tell me about the menu. They opened a little over a month ago. They were busy and I can definitely see why! My coffee was delicious and their baked goods taste as good as they look!

I ordered a caramel macchiato, extra sweet and the barista made it to perfection! The pastry line up was also very impressive. I'll definitely be back any time I'm in town!

Very nice small cafe connected to the 858 burger restaurant next door. The barista was nice and quick, and poured the syrup and espresso/matcha into the lattes in front of us, very fancy and fun! He also added dried grapefruit garnish which was a nice touch. Lack of chairs and bathroom inside.

I tried the tiramisu latte with oat milk and an extra shot of espresso, and it was delicious and very well made. It was the perfect coffee for Mother's Day. The coffee was balanced, smooth, and flavorful. The interior was beautiful and had a welcoming atmosphere. I would definitely come back to try other drinks and menu items.

We had the tirimisu latte, beef empanada, and banana bread croissant ~ everything was absolutely delicious and so close to all the la jolla staples

Tried a mix of savory and sweet: the Curry Pan was good but didn't totally wow me, while the chocolate, strawberry ribbon, and matcha croissants were all really solid -- especially because they weren't overly sweet. The surprise favorite was the caviar bread: salty, fishy, briny topping on crusty bread that somehow just worked SO well. We also split a croque monsieur which was warm, cheesy, and perfect to balance out all the pastries. I wish they had real cutlery (vs only plastic disposables) for dine in customers. Our family shared all these goodies and a plastic knife was no match for some of them. Overall, really good quality pastries and breads, worth the early lineup. I'd definitely come back to try the sandos (served started 11:30)

Their cakes may be pricey, but…read morein my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

Also just so everyone is aware they're also liars just to mention & stupid.. she tells us her name is Karen thinking we don't know the owners name lol .. We politely asked if it would be possible to purchase a small cup of fruit , even just a couple strawberries cut up, because one child in our group cannot have sweets due to very strict dietary restrictions . Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently. Flour Atelier is a small bakery right next to the hovering Mitsuwa. They carry two refrigerated sections' worth of original treats and pastries, many with Asian flavors such as their ube leche flan and calamansi cheesecake. I'm a gluten free girly nowadays, but when I could eat their desserts I did love their cheesecake: a balance of cream-to-crust is important to me. And those flavors? Standout. Hard to find many other places. They also have tea and coffee, and my husband and I LOVE their hojicha latte, which boasts a nice earthy-to-sweet ratio. If you want a grounded flavor without getting another coffee, try the hojicha latte! The store itself is quite small, selling sweet treats, drinks, and even flowers through a collaboration with a florist. They have about 4 tables outside -- recommended for small parties, unless you come when it's empty with a group. It was tasty - light, smooth, and included real taro - and had alternating layers of cream and taro; however, we were surprised with how small it was in person (vs photos) for $12.50 before tax. This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.
