I had a bad experience here a few years ago at a business dinner. After seeing a compelling YouTube review, I came back, for an anniversary dinner with my wife. It was fantastic! At 7:30pm on a Friday night, it was busy but not full. The ambiance was fantastic, like an old luxury hotel lobby. Live piano music, a full old-school bar, and tremendous service. Watching the bar cart and the dessert cart moving around the restaurant floor was fun too. And the steak. Oh the steak. I ordered mine medium rare and it came out rare. And my wife ordered medium and hers was more medium done than medium. But they tasted fantastic. Dry aged ribeye done right. We got the $90 restaurant week specials. The waiter recommended the Caesar (very good), the ribeye (fantastic even if not perfect temperature) and the cheesecake (fabulous! Rich and flavorful and perfectly balanced.) This was exactly what we were looking for. Great food, attentive service, cool ambiance, delicious splurge meal that still wasn't insanely expensive. We skipped drinks, didn't feel necessary with such rich and complexly flavored food. And we oggled the meat counter on the way out. 5*. One of the best. Glad we gave it another try. read more

This was an experience. We came in here after having visited many of their other restaurants (we actually shipped going to pappadeaux) to come here tonight. The restaurant is very dark and intimate, but at times you can hear the people next to you talking. I got a cosmo, a 10 oz filet, husband got a 16 oz ribeye. We shared crab Mac, broccolini and lobster deviled eggs. Husbands drink never came. We finally cancelled it when our food arrived. The ribeye was supposed to be 16 oz but looked more like a 10 when it arrived. There was no fat on it, and anyone who eats steak knows the flavor comes from the fat. It looked like it was cut and weighed with the fat then the fat was cut off before it was cooked. I'm sure some people like that, but it feels like it should have been advertised as lean. Papa's Pro Steakhouse was a lovely pick for Valentine's Day. Service was genuinely excellent from start to finish and our waiter was attentive. Valet was $10 with two attendants, which felt reasonable given the downtown location. We started with the Spanish octopus carpaccio, and it was absolutely the highlight of the night. It was incredibly fresh, bright, and beautifully citrusy. For mains, we ordered both the ribeye and the filet. The filet clearly stood out: tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, while the ribeye was good but not nearly as memorable. For sides, the mashed potatoes were fantastic and easily one of the best parts of the meal. The creamed spinach had good flavor but leaned a bit too heavy and rich for our taste. The dessert cart was a nice touch and added to the overall experience; we went with the crème brûlée, which was a perfect, classic ending. Oof, where to start? I guess I will start by comparing this to this one I went in the Galleria/Westheimer area--which was stellar. Ambiance --good, piano & a little loud. Service--it was okay, I understand they get busy and forget things, but when you say you're going to get the manager, I expect you to get the manager --not me having to flag the manager down almost during closing who was obviously never told to come to my table. Shrimp cocktail --- excellent, best think I had that evening. Wedge salad---horrible. No chunks of blue cheese, asked for a side of blue cheese bc it was dry af, poured the whole thing out and maybe two or three small crumbles of blue cheese at the bottom. Oh, and a small inch of bacon thrown on there? Can't event chop it up? On to the worst part, the filet mignon. Probably the the fattiest, gristley-ist steak I've ever had in my life. Unnacceptable. Couldn't eat it, too much blubber. Told waiter, Jose, said he'd get manager --did not, nor did he comp it. Though, I believe once u flagged the manager down later on my own, he may have removed it, which was the right thing to do. It was unacceptably entirely fat, no meat. Our waiter Greg was nothing short of amazing! This was my first time coming here for restaurant week and not only did Greg really make us want to return but so did the overall food quality. We called last minute to see if they could squeeze us in for a reservation and Angela was able to make it happen! Greg was super knowledgeable about not only the menu but the restaurant and educated us since we did tell him it was our first time! Told him I was pregnant & he recommended pregnancy safe options to eat (no raw seafood). We started off with there turtle gumbo & Cesar salad. However, the Cesar salad was absolutely horrible. It tasted like they picked out the leaves from the garden and put it straight on a plate without washing them. The salad looks fully covered in dressing but it had absolutely ZERO flavor. The dressing did nothing at all to the salad. Definitely do not recommend the Cesar salad at all. This however did not dictate the rest of my meal being disappointed on just the salad. My husband did enjoy his turtle gumbo! I got the 8oz filet and my husband got the 10oz NY strip and they were both amazing. Cooked perfectly to medium rare and seasoned great. We got the French green beans it could have had a little more flavor or butter perhaps but still tasted crunchy and good. For dessert we had the key lime pie & cheesecake. On par with how it should taste like. Now for parking there is valet parking and honestly the only option unless you want to find parking throughout downtown. Pappas Bros. Steakhouse.... I could write a book about how much I love this establishment. From the food, the ambiance and the service, NO ONE DOES IT LIKE PAPPAS!!! At this location they offer Valet services at the entrance for $10, which comes in handy because parking in Houston can be a hassle sometimes. When you go inside, you immediately see the cuts of steak they have available on display next to the lobster tank where they keep their live fresh lobsters. In the back you can also see they have an open kitchen. The ambiance is intimate and romantic, if you are going for an anniversary or special occasion they decorate your table which is nice. The lighting inside is dim and they sometime have a pianist performing there. It can get really busy on weekends though so it can get a bit loud, especially if big families are going to dine. When getting seated the host or hostess pulls our our chairs and lays the napkin on our laps. I always feel like a princess when this happens. The servers there are all very knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive. Cleaning the table after each meal and making sure drinks are good to go. My favorite item, even though its expensive, is the A5 Wagyu. My mouth is drooling while typing this out. It comes on a block of pink Himalayan salt and topped with enoki mushrooms. This is usually offered off the menu. If you down to spend some money I definitely recommend the A5. Their other steaks are delicious as well, and if it's not they will gladly remake it until it is. The service is great here. My favorite side is the Au Gratin Potatoes, you need to get the POTATOES!!! Some of the best potatoes i have ever had in my life. As for dessert, can't go wrong with a pecan pie. Its nice a warm when they bring it out. That while sipping a carajillo is absolute bliss. This well known spot is a polished classic steakhouse. My first visit here in 2018 made a great impression and the place is still firing on all cylynders. The atmosphere is great... high end but comfortable. Many types of seating options... sit in the bar, in the dining room, at the food bar in front of the kitchen... there's also a private room off the main room. The wine list is one of the best in town... very impressive... full of gems, especially if you have money to burn. There a few affordable choices as well. Excellent wines by the glass. I'm often disappointed at high-end steakhouses... but this place delivers. Not wild about everything here, but overall a great place. Atmosphere, service so great... most of the chow is excellent. My Prime NY Strip... perfectly cooked and amazing quality. Filets were a big hit with my guests. Sides deliver... excellent Mashed Potatoes... Spinach, Brussels, Mac & Cheese too. Crab Cakes ok, not my favorite preparation... I like more simple crab focused, this too fried. Lobster Deviled Eggs not impressive, need to rethink the prep... tiny piece of lobster and a jar of egg yoke to spoon in... kinda dumb idea and not enough lobster. Great Shrimp Cocktail, salads are excellent. Desserts are insanely great. They bring a cart by the table to tempt you. I can't think how anyone could refuse some of these treats... they all look unbelievable. Everything we tried was great, esp. the Cheesecake... It's about 6 inches high, amazing graham cracker crust... flanked with pieces of vanilla chocolate... with a vanilla sauce. Enough for 4 people, esp. after a big meal. I opted to go here for a solo date after a hard week. I was able to secure a last-minute reservation and was not disappointed. I was immediately greeted by a host and taken to my seat by the bar. Where do I even start? I visited for Houston Restaurant Week and, for the most part, thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I was excited because I had heard good things about this steakhouse. The only annoying thing was being seated way at the front, close to other guests waiting to be seated. Anyway, it was a prefix menu, and I got the house salad, steak, and cheesecake. The salad was light, flavorful, and crunchy. I asked for a well-done steak, and it was not cooked to the point of being cremated, which was an A+ in my book. But it was a bit underseasoned. The mashed potatoes were buttery and delicious. The asparagus was, well, an asparagus. Nothing too mouthwatering there. The highlight of my entire meal was actually the cheesecake. The pictures do not capture its size. My only regret is that I was unable to take it to go since I was too full past the point of gluttony and could not safely store it. In terms of the food it was solid, nothing incredibly memorable. For cocktails I tried the Verte 75 which is good if you like something refreshing and minty/cucumbery. The lychee martini was really just a vodka mixed with lychee syrup and raspberry popping boba so if you're into that go for it but I personally would opt for a more snazzy cocktail. I really loved this restaurant! The service was exceptional and the salmon that I had was probably some of the best salmon I have ever had. The sauce and combination with crab meat and shrimp so unique and paired really well together. The ambience is amazing as well and so pretty! [VEGETABLES] +Fresh Jumbo Asparagus for $17.95 - The asparagus was good, but depending on your preference, note that it sits in a buttery liquid. - 4/5 [STEAK] Porterhouse Steak (dry-aged, 26 oz) for $89.95 - This bone-in steak includes filet mignon on one side and New York strip on the other, sliced tableside. While I liked the concept of trying two cuts, the meat was sliced too thick for my taste. It also lacked enough salt, and despite ordering medium, it was closer to well-done. Honestly, I feel like I could make a tastier steak at home with meat from Whole Foods using a griddle or sous vide and finishing it in cast iron. - 3.5/5 Overall, I expected more from the steak considering the national praise this place receives. Came in for dinner and I was very impressed by everything I had gotten. Service was amazing and the ambience of the restaurant is great. The place is super spacious yet still intimate despite it's size. For appetizers I got the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was sweet and tender, and paired very well with the cocktail sauce provided. The sauce was a little on the sweet side, but had a nice tang to it as well. I also got the poblano soup which was very hearty, warm, and had a nice small kick. Perfect for a cold night. For the entree I got a filet mignon which was cooked to a perfect medium and was perfectly seasoned. I also tried some of my friend's broiled salmon fillet which was just as delicious. It had lumps of crab and was doused in a delicious white wine sauce. For sides we had the au gratin potatoes and haricot verts. Both were absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. For dessert I got the chocolate turtle pie which is super sweet and super decadent, but was very delicious. As for drinks I tried the lychee martini, crystal key lime martini, and christmas in kentucky. The martinis were both on the sweeter side, and tasted absolutely delicious. I'd give it a -10 if I could!! The worst service I have ever had at a steak restaurant. We spent over $650 on dinner we didn't complain at the restaurant because the service was so bad we wanted to just leave. If we hadn't already ordered all our food in hopes it would get better we would have just left, however it never did. We left with the managers name on a business card and the GM. We actually took home our lobster and steak it was that bad. When I called the manager the following Monday we never heard back from anyone until I finally had to call Corp. office. Although Courtney in guest relations was nice to try to fix the problem we waited 4 weeks and after multiple calls from me to follow up we finally got a response in the mail. A measly $250 gift card after we spent $640+ tip Yes we still tipped we are good people and we couldn't bring ourselves to leave nothing which now I regret!! They say they want to make it better, this has been the worst experience we have ever had. I wouldn't waste a dime on this restaurant or any others by this company. I won't even get into what went wrong the night of we went there because I have repeated it to multiple managers; Vanessa, Priscilla and a Courtney and I don't have the time or energy to waste on this horrible situation and restaurant. read more

I took the Mrs here for our 34th anniversary before seeing a show nearby. Pappas has a stellar reputation as anyone in Houston knows, but our experience left us somewhat undazzled. I mean these comments to be constructive just so management can perhaps understand better customer perspective. One of my complaints will not be about price, but when you shell out $300 on dinner for two, (one cocktail, one side, two appetizers, two filets, one side, no dessert, no coffee), you expect things to go amazing. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. Specifically: We arrived within 2 minutes of our reservation, but had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. My Old Fashion was quite good but took too long to be served. Our waiter even came to apologize about it. The bread was warm, but the texture was kind of cake-like. I'm not sure what other customers like but I'd suggest management consider something with more yeast, maybe like sourdough. The kind of bread that stretches when you pull it apart. The Turtle Gumbo (with sherry) tasted quite good but was way too hot. Had to wait several minutes for it to cool. The lobster deviled egg was ok, but honestly nothing special. The real issue here is they bring the egg whites with a chunk of lobster in each half, and a jar of egg yolk mixture with bacon pieces in it. The bacon pieces were too big and had to be cut or pulled apart, and then you had to spoon the yolk mixture into your egg half. All a very clumsy undertaking. Better for the staff to prepare everything in the kitchen so that the only thing for the customer to do is pick it up and eat it. The Brussels sprout side was quite good. No complaints. Great balance of sweet and bitter flavors. Now the steaks. We both ordered filets medium. The flavor was fine but they were too chewy. Since this was the main course it is the main complaint. A $60 filet should pretty much melt in your mouth. Ambiance wise, was nice. Good steakhouse feel no doubt. Piano player in the bar was a nice touch. Timewise, we were in there from 6pm to 730. Seemed a little long overall, but since we were seated a little late I'm not sure if this is typical. We had to rush out to make sure we were seated for the concert. Anyone trying to match up dinner and a show should plan for such delays. Next time I'd do a 530 reservation to make an 8pm show. Again, mean the comments to be helpful as possible. read more

I typically prefer the OG location, but depending on the occasion, who I'm meeting, etc. this place is slowly winning me over. We typically dine fairly late, but it's never an issue here and they're always on their game. We also tend to order a lot and sit for hours, but the staff are always along for the ride and knowledgable about their menu if you do have questions along the way. Extremely large wine selection, definitely helpful if you need guidance or a push in any direction. But something for everyone certainly. I'd say, if you have the free time and can make it to the original on Westheimer, or if it's a special occassion, that location is worth the extra effort. If you just want a fat steak and decent cocktails during the week, this is the spot. read more
