Absolutely love and adore this place. Carlos, the manager, and his staff were all extremely professional and welcoming. He managed to put together a catering order for 16 people super last minute and even included rice and beans. All the burritos were delicious and there were both vegetarian and meat options. I've been here a couple of times and I've had the chicken burrito and chicken tacos. This one time I had the chicken burrito I threw up, but I didn't think anything of it. Then today I have the Papis taco and immediately when I finished I threw up. I don't know what they use and if anyone else has experienced this, but I don't think I will be eating from here anymore. I will definitely be more cautious of the things I eat. In the meantime I'm gonna go to the doctors to figure out what was wrong. read more

Stopped in for a steak and chicken taco to go. So bland and dry I thought my Norwegian grandmother from the Midwest made it! I brought it home and "doctored" it up with my own salsa. So I found this place on groupon. They had a really good deal 15$ for 30$ worth of food. My man is a taco connoisseur so I thought why not treat him to some comfort food ( he's Spanish) the place was really clean, they even had a recycle can for the drink bottles. The cashier was super friendly she answered every question I had while J (my man) was just rambling in Spanish and leaving me in the dark. We ordered 3 carnitas taco, 1 shrimp taco, 1 beef taco and two other meal. All the meat on the tacos were really dry, out of the 4 the shrimp was the best it tasted so good that we ended sharing that one between us. The tortilla they used however was the worst tortilla I've ever tasted in my life. I do hope that they get better tortillas in the future. We also had their orchata hands down the best one I've had ( I licked the cup cover). All in all it was a pretty good experience. Will go there again anytime I get the chance. read more

Really like the food here, and great prices. So why 1 star? Because they seem to open or close by the whims of unicorns. Tonight - 8:15. Shuttered. Dark. Empty. Not the first time this has happened. Other times go at 9.30, they're cleaning up. 'What time do you close?' "10" ... "Well it's 9.30.' "Yes tonight we close early." No kidding. No sign on door (water pipe burst or some such..no explanation, apology) -- I don't eat 'out' often so when I do it's because I REALLY want to or don't have food or feel like cooking, so I'm really really counting on them being open at a 'normal' hour. Saturday we had a great inexpensive meal at Papi's Grill. The burrito was huge and could easily be split between 2 people who don't eat huge amounts of food. However she had the burrito (I ate half of it) and I ordered 2 chicken Tacos. The seating is limited but it was pretty empty when we arrived. Tacos $3.00 each and burrito $9.00. I was excited about this place, but was very disappointed when I finally got to trying it. It's not authentic Mexican by any means. The ingredients lacked any real flavor. The carnitas was dry and tasteless, as were the beans and rice. The best!!!! They make the food so fast, the place is so clean, the prices are reasonable, and the people are so kind. Love the check in option with them and yelp in order to earn a bag of free chips! This place is a few blocks down from Chipotle and deserves more attention than them. Papi's has great quality food and is a small business. Doesn't get better. Would much rather support them than a chain like Chipotle whose food isn't close to being as good as Papi's! They do such a good job bringing a small business and Mexican culture to a neighborhood like Park slope that it slowly filling up with more big business like Chipotle and McDonalds. I am happy that they are carrying more vegetarian options now (they added the mushroom burrito to the menu). They seem to be responding to constructive yelp reviews, so I've been frequenting them. Main Complaints: -Still, the lack of variety in vegetarian options -The use of plastic plastic utensils for dine in. Why not use compostable plates/utensils when possible? -The proportions of ingredients can change depending on the cook, which makes the dishes vary. Although it's a casual teeny spot, it's hand decorated by the owner and it's wonderful to take a window seat and watch people pass by. Great as a takeout! It's so inexpensive and delicious- the real deal. Forget Chipotle- try a vegetarian Papi's taco for $4.00 or any of the other tasty choices. I'm so glad I stumbled upon Papi's Grill while looking for a place in Park Slope for the lunch. I got the Chorizo and Egg Tortas and it was absolutely delicious. Perfect balance of ingredients on a deliciously warm Mexican roll. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at but if you're in the area check it out! The food is quick and delicious. I love this place. It's a family-owned-and-run spot -- they also have a bakery in Sunset Park -- and they're incredibly sweet and welcoming. If you try to question the women who cook you may have some confusion as their English isn't 100%, but the food is fantastic. Highly recommend the spicy meats, and on weekends they have the best tamales I've had in a long time -- fresh, light and fluffy masa, and a couple of less-standard flavors like mole and tamales oaxaqueño, wrapped in banana leaves instead of corn husks. (Go on Saturday for the best selection of tamales, as they run out later on.) Also wonderful Huevos Rancheros. I'm so glad to have them nearby. read more

Ordered a simple vegetarian tostada. Upon my return to pick up my food, I noticed a sign which said Avocado is no longer available and will be replaced with guacamole. I told the girl who took my order the last time I had their guacamole it was too spicy and would prefer not to have it. I asked for another explaining, I wouldn't be able to eat it. Well when she told the chef, he was not pleased. She then told me he said next time let them know when I make my order. Well he gave me a hard tortilla, didn't even bother to place it on the grill and threw the toppings on it with anger. Wow!! What poor customer service for a simple tostada. First time getting food from this establishment. I ordered the carne asada burrito and a small side of guacamole to go. I went to take out my burrito when I went home and there was no guacamole inside. The burrito was good but would have been much better with guacamole. I got charged $3 for it and no guacamole to eat. Now I know if I go back to check the bag before I leave. I even checked my receipt to see if they charged me for it or not and they did. read more

The flavor was there but I was a little disappointed.I ordered the chicken burrito to go the other day. It was my first time there so I should have specified with the waitress that took my order what came in the burrito. Even though it says on the menu what comes on it,should have asked for lettuce and tomato on it. It was chicken, rice beans, sour cream, and weird cheese. It was a combination of cheese whiz and it looked like mozzarella, it was very strange. The chicken looked very weird but I was hungry and hoping for the best. It was yellow and stringy is the best way to describe it. I will say the portion was huge I was really hungry and couldn't finish it. Maybe a bit slow in service, and the rice is not so authentic (how come all new york taquerias serve hard rice?!). But the chorizo breakfast burrito has saved my life a couple times, and the folks are nice. Good to have around the corner. read more

Came in for breakfast taco, ordered one with sausage and one with chorizo. Pay my money drop change in tip jar and hang back. Counter lady comes up to inform they are out of chorizo, is very nice in her approach about it. I say no problem and look at other options but it's either bacon or order two sausage. I wanted that Mexican flavor of chorizo so asked since they are out of chorizo could I substitute barbacoa or ground meat, both are same price on menu. She checks with lady cooking. Chef gets super salty saying absolutely not. Gives me the stink eye. Nice counter lady mentions it's the exact same price. She grumbles but acquiesces. Fine, no harm/no foul. Drop another dollar in the tip jar. Order up, take my food ask for some salsa verde on way out... she hesitates like I'm asking too much but gives in. Uh, ok. Still no real harm/ no foul. Get home super into having my delicious egg/cheese/meat goodnesses. Take my first bite... no egg. No cheese. No goodness. What the F gives. She jerked me out of what I was salivating for. Oh well, keep it moving. Next taco, first bite, Oh yeah, there's the egg, there's the cheese, there's the chefs hair.... wait what. There's no more gross feeling than pulling a hair through food your chewing in your mouth. The final straw. I spit it out and look inside to find a second hair and what could possibly be spit.
