To me, the way I rate a Mexican place is based off of their hot sauce/ salsa. Their hot sauce/ salsa was very tasty and had a good kick to it. The food is pretty affordable for the amount that you get which doesn't happen often these days. The portions are pretty hefty. Everything we ordered was pretty tasty. The only complaint I have is that the limes we got were pretty dried out. I would still come here and just hope we get some better limes next time. read more

Pros: food is delicious, really enjoyed my steak and mushroom quesadilla (steak was a tad over cooked but still tasty). Ok my wife and I are up in Brooklyn, NY watching the grandkids for a couple days . So we're out walking looking for a place to eat and run across this little gem . Mark the spot. Nothing to look at from the outside and not in a fancy neighborhood but wow , wow , wow the food is incredible. I order at the walk up counter a carnie burrito my wife orders chicken tacos and I get a banana and quesadilla for my grand kids . Every bite of my food from here gave me every bit of the authentic Mexican cuisine experience that I was looking for. The place is small, but roomy with a lot of cultural decor which was beautiful to look at. The workers are very friendly and the music they play fits the ambience very well; you couldn't convince me that I hadn't stepped into Mexico for a few minutes. I ordered the chicken fajitas (with two servings of rice, usually it comes with rice and beans of your choice). It came with a few tortillas and they even gave me complimentary tortilla chips! Very generous of them to do so. It came up to about $12 which was great for what I bought. I don't even know where to start when it comes to the flavor this meal brings. The assortment of various peppers brought a medley of tastes that carried the meal overall. The chicken was prepared excellently: grilled just right, seasoned beautifully, and very moist. There was a generous amount of sauce (or gravy, whatever you'd like to call it) from the chicken as well. The white rice and Spanish rice were both soft and potent in taste, but they also held the moisture and flavors from the peppers and chicken very well. The tortillas were still hot upon opening them and they were fluffy and delightful to chew. They were pretty neutral in flavor, which gave me quite the opportunity to pair them with everything else in the meal. They say everything tastes better when it's free, but I believe these tortilla chips stand their ground anyway. They tasted freshly made and with each crunch came a light and balanced taste of tortilla: not salty, hard, or starchy. I greatly recommend this place. Mallenche is one of those neighborhood spots that I wish I lived closer to but I'm happy I don't because the food is too delicious to not eat every other day. I walked in around 8:45pm with a friend (they close at 9:30pm) and I was a bit weary about being served the remaining scraps of the day but the reviews were too good to pass up on a chance to try their tacos. The gentleman at the window took our orders politely and quickly. In addition to the tacos, we also ordered a side of guacamole and two drinks (one cucumber limeade & one horchata). Our bill came our to $30 for everything (each taco was about $3, I think.) The atmosphere is clean and moderately sized. I can picture it being a bit packed during a lunch rush but for this time of day, it was barely full. For the most part, the food was hot, fresh and delicious. The goat, chipotle chicken, carnitas and al pastor are highly recommended. In combination with the spicy salsas, it was bite after bite of flavor-packed and fiery goodness. The guacamole was fresh and creamy and paired very well with the tacos. The fish taco, unfortunately was a bit underwhelming. I've had a much better fish tacos at other establishments. The guacamole lacked a little lime and heat. It also came with cold, store bought chips and while that isn't a deal breaker, it could have been a bit better. The service was great for a neighborhood establishment of its caliber. We stayed until about 9:30 and they were never rude about us staying until closing and they thanked us for our business as we thanked them for our food baby. Been here a couple of times in the past two years. Very small neighborhood spot with delicious food and homemade beverages. They also sell tres leches cake and other cakes by the slice. I dropped in today for the spicy shrimp quesadilla and it was just as yummy as I recall from over a year ago. They are always so nice and welcoming. The homemade limeades and lemonades are delightful and refreshing. They also make smoothies and salads! There's something for everyone. Spicy Shrimp Tostada: The shell was still pretty crispy considering the delivery time. The shrimp was spicy and very enjoyable. Grilled Steak Quesadilla: Very tasty and flavorful. Prefer to order with pico de gallo on the side only. Hard Taco Carnitas: Fairly moist carnitas. The hard shell was a bit soggy, so definitely spring for the soft shell. From the day this place opened their doors bc I've lived on church since 1999, I've been going to this place and I loved their food I use to boast about them to my family and neighbors telling them to try it out, the food was great the service was great... I moved away about 4yrs ago to Canarsie and still made it my business to drive 20 mins to the restaurant atleast 2x/week. For the past year I'd only go for their salads after the gym and I always get the exact same salad but one day they decided to upcharge me for a squirt of sauce that I'd been getting for years I asked why, come to find out the guy was up charging me for a side sauce that I didn't get and I wasn't having it, I didn't find out until I came back another time and the regular guy said it only and upcharge for sides, and I asked does everyone know that ?!? Now all of a sudden everytime I come in there's a new upcharge for something. Ntm I speak Spanish but I don't speak Spanish to them bc sometimes they try to explain or say smart things in Spanish bc they think I don't understand and I'm not a fan at all, idk why I keep getting snarky remarks and random upcharges when I've been getting the same things for over 6yrs and going to them since they open their doors, unfortunately they've joined the higher prices less food and I'll make sure to pass that on to those Ik, there's a few spots I've been trying that seem to be a bit more worth it read more

Daaaamn Daniel! I have been craving Mexican for like two weeks, and my dreams finally came true tonight when we ordered from here. The chicken taco salad is probably the best I've ever had, and I'm a girl that *loves* a chicken taco salad. The mole is so rich and amazing, the enchiladas are delicious! The black beans are so tasty, the whole dish is great! Carnitas was also fantastic- rich, porky goodness. Al Pastor was pretty good, too. Upon visiting their Yelp page, I realize I've actually eaten here before. Definitely a cool place to sit and grab a quick couple tacos. It's basically like 2 blocks away, so when it's really cold and crappy outside I can order from these fine folks and they will deliver it in 20 min or so! It's great. The food here is really good. Like really good. I've had their burritos (chicken and also chorizo) and they are huge and tasty. Their quesadillas are fantastic too: I had their steak quesadilla and it hit the spot last night. Also, they put mushrooms in their food. Mushrooms are not a mexican food staple by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, when I first came here and they asked if I wanted mushrooms in my burrito I paused and thought that maybe the flavor would be too different from a "mexican" flavor? Yea it doesn't really make any sense in hindsight because mushrooms are great, so I put them in, and I'm glad I did. Lately I've been addicted to the mallenche taco salad- which is really legit in size for a salad. When I'm feeling less healthy I always go for a torta- go for the Milanesa! Sometimes the chorizo or chipotle chicken is soupy and the sandwich gets messy fast. Sometimes when you order chips and guacamole you seem to get different brands of chips every time. I got a salad bowl (you pick your own greens from a little pre packaged bowl in the refrigerated section, and then they pack it for you!). You get 1 meat, and 5 toppings I believe.
