not my type of food. hubby ordered the seafood platter with lamb chops, octopus tiny lobster tail, shrimp and calamari. we are seafood bufs. none of the seafood tasted that fresh. it was very seafoody tasting. we only ate half of it and took the rest home just to toss it in a dumpster on the way home. I got the 5 chicken wings were ok. a bit too spicy . i also got the chicken with garlic oil which was fair. hubby got the pork belly and it was very tough to chew. will not revisit. the waiter and staff were nice but i mainly go for the food. look at the menu on line before you go. you might like it read more

Fun restaurant to celebrate my mom's birthday this week. Group of 5 adults and 1 child shared 8-9 small plates including octopus,calamari, mushrooms, potatoes.... We asked if they could accommodate our almost 4 year old grandson with a cheese quesadilla which they willing to do. Also enjoyed the pitcher of red sangria. A little disappointed in service in took forever to get the Spanish omelette and quesadilla which arrived almost at the end of the meal. Also one of our group drinks non alcoholic beer. Our friends recommended this restaurant - they said the food was very good, but the service was average. The food was very good. I had the paella and was very happy with it. The service however, was horrible - honestly quite possibly the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant! We had to wait 10 minutes before our table was even approached by our server. Then she said hello, but took another 5-10 minutes to come back to get our drink order. Then we waited another 10 minutes for our drinks, and one was missing. I had to go to the bar to get mine or we'd still be there! Never got our water refilled in the entire evening. Never checked back to see how the food was. We were a party of 6, so I guess we shouldn't have been surprised that a 20 percent gratuity was already included in the bill, but unlike other places, our server "forgot" to tell us it was already included. Glad we caught that since there was a big empty line below the total for gratuity. We're always looking for fun new places, but we will not return to this one. read more

Wow! Love Papa's Tapas! This place is family owned and operated, and the food is awesome! The Chimichurri steak was super yummy, and the empanadas are the best around--flaky dough and perfectly seasoned beef! Our table also split a few other tapas, all of which were excellent. The service was warm and friendly, and it's really a place you want to linger after your meal for a while. On our next visit, I'd be interested in trying the paella; they have a few different kinds, and it's made fresh for each order. A trustworthy Yelp search for happy hour specials led me here. Papa's happy hour lasts from 4-7PM which offers tapas ranging from $4-9 and drink specials as well. What was only supposed to be a glass of sangria turned out to be an entire pitcher shared between me and my friend. If you're planning to come for happy hour, keep in mind that it's bar seating. The servers were super attentive and helped us dissect such an expansive menu. Don't forget to ask for the complimentary bread if they haven't already served you some! We decided on three tapas which was as filling as an actual meal. The rosemary garlic wings are popular here and I can see why. The wings are crisply cooked and then softened with the tomato sauce poured over it. The quesadillas and shrimp were delicious as well. Darn. I was looking forward to trying this place for quite some time, but not much impressed me. We walked in to an austere woman who asked if we had reservations. We thought it was odd. There were a ton of empty tables. We said no, and she looked startled, sort of scoffed, and led us to a table. When I went to sit, there was food on the seat. I commented on it, but she didn't seem to care, so I brushed it off with the menu myself. Ick. They brought us bread with a tomato dip that was suuuper garlicky but tasty. As we perused the menu, I came across "Mediterranean beef sliders" and though they piqued my interest, I found the description ambiguous. So we ordered Serrano ham, pollo al ajillo, and the pork montaditos. When I asked about the aforementioned beef sliders, the waiter just said they're delicious. I asked again, okay, but what are they? And again he just said he recommended them. Odd. So I didn't order them. The ham came out first. I didn't care for it. I'm going to sound snobbish, but I've had my fair share of Serrano ham before, and this didn't fit the bill. I didn't expect it to be as magnificent as the ham I had in Spain, but it didn't even taste fresh. The chicken was overpoweringly garlicky almost, but we still ate it. The pork montadito was delicious if not a little messy to eat. My mom was disappointed that the majority of her pork was fat, but as far as the tapas we ordered went, that stole the show. We were both still eating and someone asked if they could take anything away. We both said no, we're still working on our food. Why were they rushing us? For all the people coming in for "reservations"? When my mom and I left, we counted over FIFTEEN tables still empty. Not terrible but not the best food nor service. Surprising that I've lived in PBC close to Delray for years and never checked out this place... That is until recently when I came to have some lunch, and walked away very impressed. For starters, I love the interior of Papa's Tapas with its red-colored walls, dark tables and bar area. The bartender was very nice and attentive who served me. The environment is very relaxed and chill to where I wished I didn't have to go back to work. It's really a great place to chill and enjoy some lunch or tapas. For my first time at Papa's, I had the pork sandwich with maduros (fried plantains). The pork was roasted and marinated to perfection... so much flavor and goodness that it didn't need any condiments on the side at all. Served on a French baguette, it was truly delicious. The fried plantains were also very good as I systematically ate each one slowly but voraciously. I capped off my lunch with a nice iced coffee that was smooth, creamy, and robust. It was too bad I had to go back to the office because I could have just chilled at the bar nursing that for another 20-30 minutes. Now that my curiosity as been peaked, I will return for another go-around soon. Definitely recommend checking this place out for lunch. And I'm sure their tapas are great. read more

A quaint little place tucked into the middle of a strip center with ample free parking. Cute cafe inside with a few TVs behind the small bar. I went with my daughter for happy hour on a Saturday night. When we arrived there were no seats at the bar but the entire rest of the restaurant was empty. We were allowed to sit at a table close to the bar and reap the benefits of the happy hour specials. Wine was good. They only serve beer and wine. We ordered the rosemary garlic wings which were good in flavor with big chunks of tomatoes on top, but they were a little dried out. I expected them to be soft like they would have been stewed in a Spanish sauce. Still the best deal on the price and amount. We were given a complimentary bread basket and roasted tomato/red pepper cold purée for dipping. It was good but the bread rolls were definitely from a bag and not fresh baked. We also ordered the happy hour clams and they were good too. About 7 steamers in a green thick garlic sauce that we really enjoyed. The final tapas dish we ordered was the the Olivia's Cazuelita. SKIP THIS DISH! Not fresh seafood and barely enough seafood in a very salty red oil sauce. It was $19 and served in a bowl smaller than a cereal bowl. We got 4 very small tail on shrimp, 4 very thin slices of salty chorizo sausage, 4 rubbery big calamari rings definitely prepackaged, 1/2 of a scallop and 1 small mushroom cut in half. We questioned the owner/chef about why there was only a half of one scallop and she said because they were big. LOL... seriously! She apologized and told us she would fix it and a few minutes later a plate arrived with 1 scallop on it. My daughter and I just looked at each other and had no words but to laugh inside. We were still hungry but feared to eat anymore food as we had probably consumed more than our fair share of salt for any one meal. The service was very good which is where the review earned it stars. The food was not portion to price comparable for the quality. I had heard good things and read through Yelp reviews and I definitely think that this place is a "miss" on my recommendations. read more

On to the other details: From the minute you step into Papa's Cafe, its like accepting an invitation to dinner: you can expect amazing food, excellent hospitality and an invitation to return. Within 5 minutes they were calling me by name and sharing their history. I ordered the Chicken in Manigua: moist, grilled chicken served with a fresh green salad with the most amazing of flavors (cilantro, balsamic vinegar, tomatoes, onions). Your choice of yellow or white rice, red or black beans and sweet plantains are also included. I also ordered as an additional side, a beef empanada and Jupina (pineapple flavored soda). The food was amazing and the portions were quite huge. Although "lunch-sized" I had enough for later, which was hard considering how delicious everything was. The empanada was warm, the filling was full of flavor and in my opinion a strong first prize candidate for Best Empanada in South Florida; I'm just saying! *They will soon be relocating to a bigger location in Pineapple Grove* read more

Not only is the food subpar and the service slow but the "manager" (the owners kid) is hand down the smuggest rudest human I have ever encountered. It took 25 minutes for them to find wine glasses to serve our drinks, we were sat at 7:45 ordered right away and at 8:45 we were told our appetizers would be another 20-30 minutes and an additional 45 minutes for Paella. If we would have been told it was 60-90 minutes for paella we would not have ordered it. At that point we canceled the paella and the waiter felt horrible for the wait. He put a rush order of chicken tenders in for our starving kids and was so apologetic. Eventually the bland calamari and shrimp came out followed by steak which was the only decent thing we ate. Then he came back and told us we had to pay for half of the paella we canceled because we never received it or the restaurant would make him pay for it because we canceled it. That was the only reason we called the manager over initially. The idea of the waiter needing to pay for the dish we never received by the manager seemed outrageous so we wanted to make sure that didn't happen. After having the pleasure of meeting the manager it's not surprising they would impose such disgusting requests of their wait staff. The manager said the food is cooked fresh as if that's a novelty in restaurants and would discount the bill for the exceptionally long wait. The bill came and he took off the paella which we canceled and never got. We never asked for a discount but when you offer and acknowledge the disappointing meal I would expect a manager follow through and make it right. When we asked to speak to him after we payed the bill our waiter told us he refused to come over and to just pay and leave. When he eventually did come over he acted as if he did us a favor by taking off the item we never received. I understand the quaintness of a small family run business but hire a manger with some social decorum who understands business. He seemed extremely immature and happy to hear we would tell our friends about this disaster of a meal. I could almost look past the food but the management will be the reason we never return. With so many great restaurants in Delray do yourself a favor and go anywhere else read more
