Panera Bread Northvale is absolutely superlative. Wayne & staff is incredible...so warm, helpful and professional. Very comfortable restaurant with nice booths and Covid-friendly seating. Their Wi-Fi is blazing fast too! As for the food...fantastic! Everything is great, from bagels to soups to sandwiches. Their bagel prices are $1 less than the mediocre Starbucks bagels. Their pastries are freshly made, not prepackaged. Everything is immaculate here...from the restaurants to tables/booths. I used to go to Starbucks. Generally I'm a Panera fan but had a very poor experience at this one today. The physical space is nice and pretty clean, and that was definitely the best part. There are kiosks at the front where you can order or you can go up to the counter. Plenty of seating and tables were clean. The service, however, left much to be desired. We interacted with two people at the cash registers, both of whom were rude and unhelpful. Their answers to our questions about new menu items were terse and it was clear they were uninterested in helping us or providing a positive customer service experience. This is by far the best run Panera I have been to in the area. Panera is Panera--you like it or you don't. I happen to really like Panera and its offerings--the bright, open spaces to have a coffee and meal and do some work, the solid menu choices for vegetarians, the friendly staff, and the normally smooth and easy ordering and food pickup process. But after visiting another Panera store in the tristate area, I was reminded that the Northvale, NJ Panera store is head and shoulders above the other Paneras and the other quick service brands in the area. The Northvale location has multiple digital ordering tablets to make ordering super fast and the staff is well trained and do their jobs quickly and efficiently. This is not the case at other Paneras in the area and at other brands' stores. And this is why I am giving them the 5 star review. read more

Not the best experience but at least I got my money back, eventually...I placed an online order with them a few Sundays ago. Drove back Home and as I was walking to the front door the bag completely split leaving my food strewn all over the driveway.. that's where I noticed my sandwich was missing. Ugh, so I have a newborn baby it's not easy for me to find the time to run out and run these kinds of errands. I call and they confirm they did forget my sandwich. I asked the guy if he could refund me the sandwich, he said yes and I gave him my cc details. I wait about a week "returns take time" and nothing. So I call back and speak to a manager. I've been here a couple of times and it was just like any other Panera but today was a bit of a headache (maybe because I went on a Saturday afternoon). There were so many rowdy kids just running around aimlessly -- both toddlers and teenagers. And the staff were clearly close to ending their shift (~3:30pm) because the service was terrible/super slow, and there wasn't an adult manager in sight to whip them into shape. I even heard one kid on staff audibly complaining by my table about having to wrap a cookie for a customer (uh that's what you're paid to do?). Definitely doing Panera to go next time. When I found the Northvale location, I was so happy. We had been regulars at the West Nyack restaurant and I don't think they ever got our order correct. Not only that, it appeared to be dirty. Only been to the Northvale location a few times, we had great experiences...until recently. When our daughter came to the car with the rapid pick up bag she handed me the bag and the soup was not closed properly and was pouring out all over. It burned my wrist. In the pouring rain I then ran in with the broken and dripping bags. I took all the food out and noticed they gave us an incorrect sandwich order. They remade all the food. The woman handed me the newly made food and without any eye contact, she handed me the bag and walked away. Never a sorry or an extra bag of chips. To make matters worse, they forgot 2 pieces of baguette and I paid 2.00 extra for avocado, which was only a few pieces and rock hard and extra mozzarella...which is good I did because I counted 5 tiny pieces on my salad. I called the manage and explained everything. He said well if you come back we would be happy to remake a salad for you. He also said that all the customers were returning the dishes that had avocado in them. I said if it's not ripe, it should be taken off the menu. He agreed. Tim is the Asian American manager at the store. He is amazing. He was working in the summer when the air conditioning was broken for two days straight managing the store all by himself with no other employees helping him that day. He always greets all of his customers with a smile no matter how hot and the conditions are. That day he was working solo and had amazing customer service to everyone who walked in the door I cannot thank him and praise him enough thank you for your service and making the Panera experience the best experience ever in Northvale New Jersey highly recommend because of Tim's leadership. read more

This was easily the weirdest experience at a Panera in my life. Never had it before so when I walked in I mentioned that to the cashier and she was very lovely helping me through everything. After I completed my order I questioned where to wait for my pick up order so I asked a gentleman working where to pick it up from. Really don't know why this location has 3 stars. EVERYONE here was pleasant to speak to. When I got my order, even thought it was busy, she asked if I needed anything else and to let me know. When I finished my food, I had two people approach me asking if they could take my tray for me. It was a very pleasant experience and I will definitely be coming back. The store was also very clean. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato. As usual, it looked delicious on the menu. When I opened the box I saw a puny sandwich with barely a slice of cheese, two tiny slices of tomato and two small pieces of bacon. Honestly, you hardly were able to see the cheese because it had been absorbed by the bread. That's how little cheese was there. The word anemic comes to mind when I think of this sandwich. But the price was anything but anemic. The sandwich costs $9.39. I've eaten good 3 course meals in diners for less. I like the premise of Panera as a healthier alternative to fast food, but the inconsistencies and bad value will make me think twice before returning. read more
