I unfortunately don't get down here nearly as often as I'd like, but I definitely help 'empty' their challah racks when I'm in the area! You grab a large brown paper bag, walk through the place and fill it with freshly made bagels and breads, and then pay what seems like some arbitrary low number they come up with while at checkout! When I was growing up, we'd go in here at 4-5 a.m. when returning from the city and purchase even 'fresher' bagels and breads if that's even imaginable! How you can still get this close to production and touch and take yourself is beyond me, but I don't care! I LOVE this place! Long live Rockland Bakery for never changing! So far i've bought the bacon baked potato slice which is pretty filling, tasted good, and the price wasn't bad for a specialty slice! (I think it was under $5) I also got a plain slice, which was decent. The other times I've gone, I got a beef empanada, chicken empanada, and pork pupusa. The empanadas were delicious and if I had to pick out of two I'm more bias towards chicken. They were filled up decently and I bought 1 of each for under $6... the pork pupusa is pretty good too! If you've never had one, it's basically a flat empanada made out of cornmeal... never had a pork one but the filling was tasty... I'm use to pupusas being filled with either cheese or beans... so the pork filling was a nice surprise. They also serve Spanish hot food...which I'll probably order in the near future since their food is consistent. The only reason they're not getting 5 stars is because I don't think this is a restaurant, while the ambiance is decent, it's a great hole in the wall to grab decent food for a great price. The people who work there are friendly too.
