Best deli in the area. Every time I do a catering order with Petrillo's, everyone raves how good it is, especially the bread. I like how they do their chicken cutlets nice and thin, but put several slices on your sandwich. They are not stingy whatsoever with the meat. The owner is the nicest guy, very accommodating, and really puts in the effort when it comes to packaging everything up and making it look nice. This is one of the best Italian delis I've been to in my life. Everything is always excellent! The hero's are perfect & loaded with meat. The bread is supposed to hold the sandwich together, not make you feel like you're eating a loaf of bread. Petrillo's has mastered the bread/meat/veg ratio. Neighborhood institution. A family operation run by dad, mom and their son. Used to order from here often when we lived nearby. Nice to come back. It's definitely worth the hour drive to check out the old neighborhood, especially Petrillo's. One of our favorite deli in NJ, along with Fiori in Hoboken. Food is wonderful, but twice the portion compared to other places and with very reasonable prices. Check out their daily specials, especially their meat loaf, hot turkey, pepper steak, ribs, stuffed peppers, pasta, etc. They also make wonderful pizza with their sicilian being our favorite. One of the best cheese pizzas Ive had in NJ hands down. It was cooked to absolute perfection and the crust was so soft and toasted just the right amount. It wasn't burnt or too dry/crispy. I had 3 slices and and prayed nobody wanted the last slice so I could eat it haha. The margherita wasn't the best though and the cheese looked like it went through my washer. My wife and I traveled here from Cape Cod in search of the best pizza from Rockland County NY through Bergen County NJ. We eventually landed here at Petrillos and met John and his parents working behind the counter. An old school hard-working family making traditional pizzas. We were blown away by what they had created, a super tasty combination of classic sauce and the perfect amount of cheese on a slightly crispy underbody with a soft but crisp crust. We ordered 13 pizzas that day, 10 plain,1 green pepper & onion, and 2 chicken cutlet and cherry pepper. We also tried an Itialian combo and Turkey sub, both were outstanding. Growing up in Old Tappan I cant beleive I never came here. We have a new can't miss Italian deli on our future trips back here. John and his family are now part of our food family. We have been coming to Petrillo's for many years. John and his mom and dad do a great job. They make the best sandwich in the area.

The food is awesome. We had the chicken cutlet sandwich with prosciutto, mozzarella, and roasted red peppers and it was amazing!

You get the most for your money here. A medium hero is enough for 2 people. Staff always friendly and always working hard. Wish I was in town for lunch more often I'd be here daily. read more

The best sub around--hands down! My family has been ordering Petrillo's Italian subs for ages. Just do it. Get everything on it. It's perfect every time! Also, I strayed a bit recently, and ordered the tuna and I am so happy I did. It's not the typical American mayonnaise-heavy tuna salad. It's like the Mediterranean tuna on a sub roll. You can actually taste the tuna! I got it with onions, olive oil/vinegar, tomato--really simple. Reminded me of summers in Europe. Delicious! Servings are GENEROUS. But get extra b/c you will be craving more for days and these subs taste incredible after a day in the fridge. read more

Passing through and stopped here for takeout. Helped that there was parking on the side. Was surprised to see their menu included pizza too. Got myself a few slices and a sicilian, which were pretty good. Looked like the people behind the counter were all family, which was nice to see. I wrote a prior review that I can't find. Best deli I've been to in north Jersey by far. The reason for this additional review is I thought I'd add a couple standouts. The Italian sub is just excellent and made to order, as it should be. I add yellow banana peppers for a little extra zing, but the sandwich is still great without them. Also, their roast beef sub that I get with provolone and extra brown gravy is likewise outstanding. Honestly, these are the only two things I get because they're so darn good, and as I don't get there very often I have to get my "fix" of my faves. And the family who runs it is wonderful so you can feel good about supporting their business as well. I should mention I think they only take cash so come prepared. read more

I called ahead to order a Philly cheesesteak. There's a parking lot to the side of the deli. There's a side door that you can walk through. The food was ready after I walked in. It cost $8.50 and was a medium-sized sub. The club size is 6 inches and the hero size is 12 inches, so I'm guessing the medium was about 9 inches. It was more than enough for me and tasted delicious. A father and son were working together, and it's nice to see a family-owned business. read more

I can't believe I never wrote a review for Petrillo's. This is my favorite deli in all of NJ. I have convinced my company to use them for corporate lunches for the last few years after I discovered the high quality and reasonable prices. My company has been very pleased to work with them. Petrillo's has great quality sandwiches and salads but what sets them apart from other delis is the quality of their prepared food. They have a few hot dish options available for quick service every day. Their Eggplant Parm us amazing. I have ordered trays of it for parties I hosted in my home. Petrillo's also offers some Italian cookies and market items (like canned tomotos) and they have some pasta's available to take home an cook. read more
