Having been to this Turning Point on 3 separate occasions, I feel quite qualified to write this review. The service is always slooooow. Like ... service with a sun dial kind of slow. Today, Father's Day, the place was not busy. We were seated right away and ordered a skillet, a waffle with fresh blueberries and a side of bacon and pancakes. The food took 60 minutes to be served. That's an hour for those who don't do digital. The food was cold and my wife's pancakes were a lump of dough. The manager said she saw the pancakes, which they ran out of after we ordered, and she said "they didn't look good, but I let them go." Really? Do better. At least they comped the meal. read more

Fully disappointed in this location. My family and I have been going to Turning Point in Long Branch for the last few years, and we were excitedly waiting for this new location to open. We visited on Mother's Day (today) with another family and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. Although the restaurant did not appear overly crowded, we were quoted a wait time of an hour and a half, while the website indicated only a 15-20 minute wait. There also seemed to be a lack of staff clearing and bussing tables. Only one person appeared to be handling it, and there was little sense of urgency despite the number of guests waiting. Our waitress was kind and attentive, but the overall experience was frustrating. What should have been a simple brunch ended up taking nearly three hours. The food arrived cold, and the servers often seemed unsure of which dishes they were delivering. There also appeared to be only one person making drinks, which further slowed service. The kids became so hungry while waiting that they started drinking the half-and-half and eating sugar packets from the table. We've been going to Turning Point for over a decade, especially the Hoboken location. We were excited to see a new location open in Old Tappan and had been looking forward to trying it. During our first visit, it took over 15 minutes for someone to bring us water and ask if we wanted coffee. It took another 45 minutes before our food arrived. We figured they might still be working out the issues that come with opening a new restaurant, so we decided to give them another chance. On our second visit, we waited 25 minutes without a single person acknowledging us. At that point, we got up and left. Basic service is missing at this location. read more

Not ready for prime time. Have visited three times and, despite high hopes, sorely disappointed each time. They are badly understaffed resulting in very slow service and order mistakes. The food is was not brought out for all patrons at the same time with one group of three being served one order and the other two waiting 20 minutes for theirs. The bacon, sausage and waffles were seriously overcooked and the English muffins barely toasted followed by requested drinks served at end of meal. I visited The Turning Point in Old Tappan a few times. Each time the experience is more outstanding. I was impressed with the cozy atmosphere and attentive staff. The food was delicious each time. The portions are generous are plated beautifully. I especially love their French Press coffee and homemade pancakes. The service was friendly and attentive. We had a very poor experience at Turning Point Restaurant in Old Tappan. My wife and I came in for a late breakfast and waited over an hour for our food. I clearly told our server that I have a gluten allergy and was assured they would provide gluten-free French toast. After about 75 minutes, the food arrived. A few bites in, I questioned whether it was actually gluten-free--and after checking, they admitted it was not. They served me regular French toast despite the allergy being clearly communicated. This isn't a small mistake. For someone with a gluten allergy, this is a serious issue, and I'll now be dealing with the consequences for the next 24-48 hours because of their error. To make matters worse, my wife's omelette was stone cold when it arrived. The only response we received was a casual "I'm sorry," with no real urgency or effort to make things right. Between the extremely long wait, the allergy mistake, and the lack of accountability, this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had. We will not be returning. Restaurants that can't safely handle basic allergy requests shouldn't be serving them at all. read more

First time there today. Not too busy but the service was extremely slow. Customers were agitated. One table of five ordered five meals and only four came out and the waitress told him I didn't hear you order anything very odd. We ordered one cup of coffee. She comes with two I said I didn't order coffee. She's like oh yeah that's right. She takes it away. Then when we get the bill, guess what the coffee is on the bill everyone who works there is extremely young and clueless. I can tell you that the food was good I would go back again, hoping that they work things out in regards to their staff and how slow the kitchen is I'll give it one more try they didn't seem to be any type of manager on duty or someone checking up on these young kids who are working there.
