I decided to go here instead of petrillos. I ordered the Vegetarian Delight which comes with Grilled Eggplant, Zucchini, and Peppers and Mozarella. I asked to swap the grilled eggplant and use breaded and keep the rest in. I redid my order bc the first time it was wrong. Then I got home and opened up my sandwich and it was wrong again. A longtime, neighborhood sandwich place, their hot foods are better than the cold sandwiches & salads. Great chicken & eggplant! The help is not too swift. I asked for French dressing and got Ranch. Then he told me he only has Italian or oil & vinegar. I told him Italian and he gave me oil & vinegar. Don't you just hate that stuff?! Little but aggravating. Then the ham & cheese wasn't a good quality. Then I wanted to break a $20 bill and the gal grabbed a dollar out of my hand instead. Used to be a great place. Now, not as good. We then asked if we could get the difference from the $12 sandwich and pay for the normal chicken cutlet and he asked are you kidding me? Very rude. This is an Italian pork store in name only. All they have is the basics like prosciutto and mortadella, and not much variety of those at that. They sell some Italian brand cookies and San Pellegrino, but that's nothing I haven't seen before. It's disappointing, because there aren't tons of Italian pork stores nearby and I'd like to see more variety and more truly Italian items that I can't find at say, Fairway. To be fair, I spoke to the owner about this and he said he used to stock things like porchetta, etc. but he said the demand just wasn't there so he stopped carrying it. I can understand that, but it's disappointing nonetheless. Also, the few times I've been there I've been stuck with the guy behind the counter who doesn't know what he's doing. I just don't feel comfortable having a clueless person grate my parmigiano reggiano. I like to know my pork store guy knows what he's doing. I like my cheese grated properly and my prosciutto to be sliced at the proper thinness and packaged properly. Is that so hard to ask? Yes, I am an Italian food snob and I guess I've been spoiled growing up with legit Italian pork stores in Brooklyn. Finally, I was disappointed with the prices from their catering menu. The sandwiches here are always so good! But the reason for my 3 stars is that they have to get it together. Going here on Sunday's before a football game is mayhem. You can walk in at 930am/10am and they are still working on catering orders. I've worked in the food industry before and that is something you should have done before you even open!! Half the time when you tell them your order they don't even write it down so there's a chance your sandwich will be messed up and trust me it's happened plenty of times before. read more

I was always a big fan of La Casa until a recent visit. In fairness to them there was a Christmas rush -- people picking up various Italian specialties for holiday parties. I stopped in to pick up a sausage, peppers and onions hero. When I opened it up I was sooo disappointed. The sausage was dry and everything was cold. The second problem was fixed by a zap in the office microwave but overall I was bummed. I may give it another shot but it better be good on that next visit or I'm abandoning the place. read more

On March 27, my teacher told my class and I that she wanted us to write a review about our personal opinion about a pizza shop in the Valley. We ordered two pies; one pie was half bacon/half chicken buffalo, and the other was half plain/half Margherita. When I first walked in my classroom I could smell the pizza. La Casa Formoso was nice enough to lend us their red bag to keep the pizzas warm, which was incredibly kind. We opened up the pizza, handed out plates, as every student ripped at the pizzas. I first grabbed a Margherita pizza. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but as I continued to eat the more I enjoyed. The dough was nice and thin, crispy, with lots of basil (which was a little overpowering for me), and the sauce was also very good. Then as I finished my first slice I grabbed a plain one. I didn't like the cheese at all, if I could describe the taste it was as if they took a bag of Mexican Blend cheese and threw it on top, but the sauce was also very good and so was the dough. The buffalo chicken was spicy, just how I like it; it was nicely made with a good dough, but the chicken was cut up into small squares, so every time I went in for a bite some would fall off. I do have to say that their bacon pizza was out of this world; the bacon was crispy and cut in big slivers, every bite was very flavorful. I would actually go back and try this with my family. Maybe their other things on the menu are even better. read more

A great Italian deli and specialty store in the area (incl Pastosa ravioli). We have ordered subs and sides for lunches as well as several large catering orders for parties at the house (including 6 foot subs). Very solid meatball (coming from an Italian family), Italian sub, pasta, chicken and filet mignon dish options.
