The Mountain House doesn't disappoint with its consistently great pizzas and Italian options. We always bring our family and out of town visitors to enjoy this delicious thin crust pizza. Our party of 9 ordered 5 pies, calamari, onion rings, and salad. The sausage pie is special since they grind the sausage so that it is evenly distributed and you get it in every bite. The hot cherry pepper pie is spicy and not for the faint of heart but it is spectacular. The wait staff is experienced and attentive and especially friendly. Get there early because it's a smaller restaurant and it gets crowded, especially after their high, and well-deserved Bar Stool rating. read more

I have had this place on my go to list ever since Dave Portnoy gave it 8.3 on his One Bite channel 3 years ago. They have a sign on their door and window with the 8.3 score. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but they did not live up to the hype. The crust was not that crisp and the overall flavor was just ok without the char. So why 4 stars? I really liked their salad and it was a really good price! Not good enough for us to make the over 1 hour drive but if we are in the area again, may give them another shot but would tell them to make the pizza well done. read more

I'm so bummed to leave this negative review because we've been coming to Mountain House for years and I've always loved it for my family. Tonight we came for dinner, we had 10 people in our party, and service wasn't great. It was slow, difficult to find the server, and they forgot to bring out two of the dishes; but the food was good and overall we weren't upset about it. But then as we were leaving our kids did the quarter machines in the entryway, and one of the machines ate my niece's .75cents. I tried fixing it myself, but the prize was stuck in the machine. So I asked for a manager and he came, named Alex, and he was APPALLING about it. He said that it works for everyone but me, that he could "do those machines all day long - I'll prove it to you" and generally acted like I was lying because I wanted the .75cents. I had just paid a $200 bill, I didn't care about the quarters, but I cared about my niece's feelings and then I really cared about how he was speaking to me. I let him know that he was speaking to me inappropriately and he interrupted me every single time I tried to speak. I stayed calm but he kept yelling at me that he doesn't care because he doesn't make any money from the quarter machines. He caused a scene with other guests staring. I've never seen such wildly disrespectful behavior from a restaurant manager. No wonder the service is slow and uncaring - they're learning from him. This might've been a one off, but this was the worst meal ever! Perhaps it was because it was a takeout; I don't know. The pizza was OK although the crust wasn't as crispy as it been in the past and in fact it was a little soggy. The Caesar salad was limp, brown and slimy lettuce,. They packaged it together with a hot plate of calamari, which didn't help.As for the calamari it smelled like fish left on a hot dock in July at noon. I've been here many times over the years. Yeah, Mountain House earned that 5th star. We've been many times, ordered different pies, entrees, and everyone left satisfied. The place knows how to keep things moving--I don't think there was ever much of a wait to get our food, and this in a place that's BIH-ZEEE. We were in the area and drove by Mountain House and decided to stop there for some food and I am glad we did. We went on a Friday night and the place was hopping but we were able to get a table. We were promptly seated and had our drink order taken. Service was efficient and friendly from everyone. We ordered a Goodfella pizza, which has pepperoni, sausage and meatballs on it (it comes with bacon as well but we opted out). We also had some chicken parm bites to start. Everything was great! If you like thin crust pizza, you'll be in hog heaven. The restaurant has a great vibe and the bar area was also hopping. Just a note on weekend evenings they only do large pizzas. We have been patrons of this restaurant for 25 years and hadn't eaten here in awhile. So tonight we decided to do take out! Sadly, this will probably be the last time we eat here. The reason we gave this restaurant a 1-star rating is because the thin crust pizza was ok. What wasn't ok was the fishy-smelling, greasy, and tasteless fried calamari and warm, limp Caesar salad with slimy lettuce and stale croutons - because it was packaged with the warm calamari! Thin crust pizza with sass In New York, need to have a thin crust pizza while here. There was a soccer match not that far, so we dragged one of the families along to try this place out. It's a funky little shack of a place, right off of a hipster downtown location. There was plenty of parking and plenty of seats inside. The decors is that of a 1980's Pizza Hut without the booths. The decor was simple and dated, but clean. The servers were a little hard to understand but understood us perfectly. We got mussels and a large "hawt swashedge" special pizza. The family we took along got a mix of chicken bites, pizzas, and chicken wings. The food came out quick, and we all dove in (I was only able to get some shots in) The mussels were nice and spicy. Meaty and no duds in the bowl. The family enjoyed the wings and chicken bites, everyone shared and the portions were plenty for our group of 6. The pizzas were wafer thin, almost cracker like. Cooked well and plenty of toppings. The pizzas were smaller, and they were promptly devoured. Being the old guy I am, I bought the two kiddos the Ultimate Oreo Waffle sundae. I am happy to report that it was worth the price. The giant mound of ice cream put in front of them was ogled appropriately and that made me smile. That too was promptly devoured. But the effect was worth it. I got a solo waffle ice cream sandwich for myself and that was tasty too. I really like the crispy waffles they make, so many places do pancakes with ridges. The food here was worth the wait! We came at the height of busyness, Friday evening for dinner. I had my parents go a little early and put their name on the list- about a 20 min wait. Not terrible but boy were the clientele there pushy mixed with an introverted hostess. Staff was clearly overwhelmed but the food came out quick and hot. The dining room was a bit packed and no place for people to wait so everyone sort of just stares you down for your table. Apparently was recently remodeled so I wonder what it looked like before but hearsay was that there is now more seating. We had 2 pies, both delish and thin crust! 10/10 We had the baked clams, vodka chicken parm bites ( yum & cheesy) , and wedgey salad- all yum 10/10 I'd go back for take out ( they have a drive thru pick up option) but would think twice about eating in , especially in a busy weekend night! read more

It has been many years since we've been to the mountain house for pizza. We went on a Friday night and we got there a little after 5 o'clock in the place was slammed. There was barely any parking spots left. The entrance is very tight so it's very hard to wait there and it gets crowded and hot. They did have a high top at the bar that we just sat at instead of waiting for a table in the dining room area and this was fine. The service was a little bit slow because I think the waiter was overworked and had too many tables, he didn't check in to see if we needed more drinks so my husband just had to go to the bar to order another drink. They had a wrench on tap which he likes, but it was expensive at $11 a glass and they also had Guinness on top but no Guinness glasses. I had a cosmopolitan and it was fine. I don't think I would order it again. We started with the mozzarella sticks, which I forgot to take a picture of and they were delicious. They were crispy and gooey, and the sauce was divine. My husband and I split the godfather pizza which had meatballs on it, caramelized onion, and ricotta cheese. I thought the flavor was a little bland and it was missing something. The pizzas there are very thin crust. That is what they are known for on. Friday, Saturday and Sunday they do not make smalls they only make larges which I thought was important to note because we normally all like to go and get individual sizes and we weren't able to. We had to just get larges. There are a lot of pizza places in the area now so I don't think we'll be coming back here for another few years. One cool thing that they have is a drive-through that when you order pizza you can just pull up to the window and they'll pass you your pies. read more

The Mountain House has always been known for its pizza, which I find quite delicious, but they miss the bar when it comes to anything else on their menu. My friend ordered some Mac and cheese bites to bring home to me because I was working. When I opened up the to go container, it was just a bowl of Mac and cheese. Right off the bat, pretty disappointed it wasn't what I ordered, but I like Mac and cheese so I decided to eat it anyway. Mac and cheese has 2 ingredients...macaroni and cheese. This was the most flavorless cheese to ever be on pasta. There was absolutely no taste. I grabbed shredded cheddar cheese and even that could not remedy how awful it was. There are so many amazing options you can choose from and we decided to go with the Godfather- meatballs, caramelized onions and ricotta dollop, it was soooo good. Old-fashioned historic pizza parlor in a college town - you know what to expect. Busy even at "off" hours; frazzled though attentive wait staff; standard menu. Where you go for pizza. Everything else on the menu is for the rare person in the group that just has to be different . We ordered one large cheese pizza and a large salad, which was adequate for our party of three adults to share, for a mid afternoon lunch. The pizza crust was thin and crispy, the sauce tasty, and the cheese just right - not too much, not too little. There we're no complaints and everyone seemed satisfied. The round pizza was cut into about sixteen slices, which harkens to an earlier time when people didn't eat so much. It was actually perfect for sharing; no one had to slice off "just a little more." The salad was standard ingredients - lettuce, tomatoes, cukes and onions - but also included olives, which we noted as a nice addition. Balsamic dressing tasted home-made and was good. We were not looking for ambiance. Just for decent pizza and the opportunity to catch up in a low-brow environment, which we found. They said it would be ready in 30 minutes, I arrived on time and picked up my pizza. When I was driving back and grabbed a hold of my pizza - it was cold?!? I've been coming here for many years. It was always a great place to have Pizza and beer. We went on 04/04/2026. We ordered 4 pies and a salad. the salad was smaller than in the past and was very bland. The cheese pie was burnt. The garlic pie had 3 little clumps of garlic, the other 2 were supposed to have sausage and peperoni. I had to look hard to find any. Again, I am comparing this to the many times I have eaten here over 30 years. I asked for napkins, they never came. We had anchovies on the side but the waitress accidentally dropped them on the table upside down BUT then stared at me in an annoyed way and asked me if I wanted new ones. (I hope she reads this), No, I'll just eat them off the table top. I don't know if they just couldn't keep up with the dinner hour or maybe it's under new management. Found the Mountain House through a Barstool review. Great spot for thin crust. The drive thru comes in clutch. Just call and place your order (open after 3:30pm), drive up to the window and you're set. Having great pizza and that convenience will have me coming back regularly. Did the ownership change? The pizza is still good but the service has really declined. Our server did not check on us once during our meal. We needed drinks for 20 minutes. When she did finally come by we just asked for the check. The portions for appetizers has changed as well. Wow. HORRIBLE experience. I bet it could be good -- but don't dare get it for pickup, because you may never get it. I sat in their "drive thru" line, which is just sitting on the side of a very busy Orenburg rd. (How tf is that legal??) I was told my order would be ready in 45 minutes, but sat in the drive thru line for an extra 30. Received cold food and they wouldn't do anything about it, even after almost getting hit by an 18 wheeler in their takeout line. I even called while in line asking to come in and just get it, but they YELLED at me over the phone to not come inside.
