This spot has been here for 20+ years serving consistently good quality sushi, sashimi and hot dishes like udon and tempura. It's a classic and simple Japanese cuisine owned and run by a Korean mom-pop couple who bought the restaurant from another Korean mom-pop owner/chef duo in the early 2000s. This tiny but mighty restaurant has survived a fire, pandemic and two recessions. In spite of it all, their food and service are always good. I do have to mention that their fried oysters are new on the menu and a bit too briny/oceany for my taste. They also have some sushi pieces with "MP" for market price; be sure to ask what that price is. Our server, while wonderful, did not explain how much the uni was and it was a doozy on our bill ($15 per single sushi piece; not for both as written on the menu so be attentive when you order!) This is a genuinely small business so there are only a few tables and some bar seating. Go when it's not rush hour to avoid crowds. They can get impacted. But the wait is always worth it. Stick to the raw bar. They have good quality fresh fish. Their makis (rolls) are also good if you want something more dynamic and bold but I like just plain raw fish on a bed of sushi rice. The sushi chef here is a veteran sushi chef with decades of experience so it's worth trying if you love sushi. A little restaurant just off Route 9W in Piermont that some locals may not even know about. We had the chicken teriyaki combo with shrimp and mixed vegetables, as well as the sushi regular with a tuna roll. Both came with soup and salad, and we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary tuna tataki appetizer. We also had the nigiri saki. The food was decent and, importantly, very fair for the price. This isn't high-end Japanese dining, but it doesn't pretend to be - what they charge is reflected in what they serve, and we felt we got good value for our money. The food was on point. Buttery and fresh sashimi pieces. The rice on their rolls are not thick at all and the flavors are so good. We were not able to take pictures of all of our orders but we ordered their Philadelphia roll and the cucumber rolls (no rice), as well as some sashimi and shrimp/vegetable tempura. Hinode is fine for a sushi meal - nothing especially memorable except for the lovely waitress who genuinely aims to please. That said, if you're craving raw fish it's convenient for a Piermont resident, affordable, easy to get a table, and takeout is always an option. A lot of the menu leans toward rolls drenched in heavy sauces which makes it hard to tell just how fresh the fish really is... or isn't. But if you order a sushi entrée, it does come with soup and salad. They also serve Nigori sake, not always a given at more middle-of-the-road sushi spots, so that's a definite plus if you like the milky stuff like I do. It's easy, it's quiet, and they'll occasionally throw in a few extra pieces, which is always appreciated. Being right off 9W makes parking simple, proving that in Piermont easy parking does still exist, even if it's not where you expect it. read more

After driving by this little "hole in the wall/Hinode in the wall" many times, we decided to finally try Hinode. First off "hole in the wall" only refers to how I viewed it at night. Small, not many cars, middle of nowhere and an "Open" neon light in the window. Inside, it's a quaint and very welcoming. About 10 - 12 tables, lots of wood and a sushi bar as the main attraction. We were the only ones in there **, so we took the opportunity to ask the waiter some questions. To our surprise, Hinode has been open for 21 years. From our own perception, it looks family owned. We saw 3 generations working that day. We were in the mood for sushi, so that's what we came for. But we did start with the Shumai Dumplings. Which were so delicate, tiny and full of flavor. Next time we'll get two orders. Sushi Cupcake, 2 Special Rolls (one with Shrimp Tempura & one loaded with fish) and a Tuna/Salmon Avocado Roll which was compliments of the Sushi Master. I've driven past this unassuming place hundreds of times and I've been dying to try it and I FINALLY DID! I was pleasantly surprised at how fantastic everything was, including the service--and they even gave us a sushi roll on the house. Thank you! I wanted to try something different so we ordered a Hudson roll that comes without rice and it was too good. One of the best. Also ordered a roll that had bulgogi beef on-top, wow so savory and delicious. I think it was called the Hinode something...I know that's not very helpful--and it seemed like they were trying it out on the menu because they asked how we liked it. We loved it. The place is cute and small, service is speedy and you can see the chefs preparing the rolls. I think this sushi spot sets itself apart from the rest and has its own unique twist that I appreciate. I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem. I always drove past it coming home from work and decided to stop in to get an order to go. So thankful I did because that's when I found my new favorite sushi take out place! Their sushi is beyond fresh and delicious. There is a ton of options and creative rolls which I love. But it's not the delicious food that has me going back. The staff and services is incredible. Each time I have stopped in they are so gracious and friendly. I think I may have visited on an off night because most reviews are good. First there is no public bathroom available. The miso soup is good, the salad is not . It's pretty much a small plate of chunks of Romain and ginger dressing. My friend found a hair in her salad and our waiter apologized and made up for it for giving us sushi as an appetizer. The sushi was fresh and tasted good. I ordered a shrimp tempura and vegetable dinner that came with rice. It wasn't bad but very fried and not very good. I should have known that considering it was a tempura meal. That not the restaurants fault. We ended the meal with fried green tea ice cream and it was the best part of the entire meal. If I were to come back I would go for the ice cream and try the sushi. read more

We had a reservation for 4 @ 6:30 PM, and felt that was a good decision as the place is small and can get busy also! The food was excellent... we ordered sushi's and were out standing! I also had cold sake which was amazing! The service was excellent except the initial confusion of, "are they the right people?!" Kinda look on the hostesses face! Was searching for a udon place and read the reviews here. The soup base was a little bland but noodles perfect, chewy not mushy. Would have been perfect with a poached egg. We also got sushi special perfect for 2 pfried oyster and chirashi. The sushi rice was perfect, not too vinegary and right consistency. Fish slices smaller which I like. Tuna tatake... I think that's what it's called is an appetizer that is seared tuna and delicious. The 9w roll shrimp Tempura is also delicious. Service is prompt and they are so polite and attentive. Reasonable prices for a hearty meal. Whenever I come home from college, I come here with my parents because we know we can rely on Hinode for a satisfying meal. For starters they always give you free appetizers like a small plate of edamame followed by a plate of salad with peanut sauce. Both are a nice beginning to your meal. I've had chirashi here, which is decent. But lately my family has been ordering pretty much the same thing. 1) Lunch boxes. My mom always gets the chicken terriyaki + veggie tempura + california roll + dumpling + miso soup lunch box, which she loves. Great deal for the price. I personally find the chicken a bit dry. California rolls are just california rolls. It's hard to mess up. The tempura is nice and the dumpling tastes like Chinese dumplings--greasy, yummy, and warm. 2) Nabe Udon- my dad ALWAYS gets this. It's clean and hot. But be careful because this has a very strong mushroom flavor. If you like mushrooms, this is great, but if not, do not get it. 3) I get a different roll every time. This time I got the dynamite roll which is fried avocado + tempura topped with cheese and fish eggs. I didn't really like it that much because I'm not a big fan of American cheese. I was expecting cream cheese or something. But the rolls here are generally decent. Best part is that the lady there always gives us a free dish and it's usually spicy tuna tempura roll. The tuna's a bit too dry and the sushi often falls apart, but I'm still very thankful! For dessert, the restaurant always gives us a cup of Sujeonggwa, which is a Korean cinammon persimmon drink. It's stronger than the canned version, but still a great clean finish to a hefty meal. read more

This place is a nice little hidden gem. I usually go with my family and we get the Sushi combo with some tempura udon. First off the tempura is on point. It is always done right and is probably the crispiest tempura I've ever had. It's a must and really...who doesn't love fried food? Their sushi is great, tastes very fresh and they don't give you too much rice on their rolls. It is always a treat because they have always given a complimentary special roll on the house or an avocado bomb (Be careful of the wasabi sauce on the bottom of the avocado bomb) During our most recent visit, we were given an avocado bomb AND another special roll.
