THE VIBES WERE JERSEY-STRIP-MALL-MEETS-SENIOR-CENTER

This place was average. You know what you are going to get...it won't wow you but it won't be too bad either. We stopped by here randomly looking for a place off the highway. Clean interior. Relatively friendly service. We were by far the youngest people in the place...seemed to be a lot of older regulars there. My pad thai was ok; tender chix but was missing some of the usual tanginess you would expect. Decent portion though. My kid thought his chix tempura was ok. My wife had an udon soup that was also...you guessed it...ok.

This is a small Japanese restaurant in Rockland Plaza (the strip mall across from the Nanuet Mall where Barnes and Noble and Marshall's are. It is between the two building a little behind Starbucks.) They have a small bar, a number of booths and tables and a sushi bar for seating. The servers were nice and attentive. They had a lot of options on their menu from sushi to noodles to appetizers. So you could come here if someone in your party isn't a fan of sushi or fish as well. The gyoza were pretty good. I got them pan fried and I also liked my Ocean Roll. I Happy that they have soy paper and not just seaweed for the cut rolls.

Scallop sushi and raw oysters .. better then any oyster house I have even been to....

Amazing.... sushi freshest I have ever had. Their Oysters on half shell amazing. Had Scallop sushi which was a special... unbelievable. Service was outstanding, friendly and accommodating. My once a week sushi fix.

Sakana is Amazing!!!!! I lived in New York City for 10 years and I've been to some of the Top Spots, But they usually aren't as Fresh as Sakana. Sakana has a wide variety of Fish and Many Special Chef's Rolls. They have Party Trays so when I have a large family gathering it's really easy to please everyone. Their Tuna and Yellowtail and Salmon are A+++. So happy I found this place. Really Amazing Sushi and Sashimi

Lunch time is very quite here. Looks like a husband and wife establishment. Had the bulgogi box. This had been bulgogi, seaseme rice, shrimp dumplings, salad and California rolls. Bulgogi was ok (have had better) but still good. Rolls and everything was good. No complaints. Will stop by to try their other dishes.

Pros: huge creative menu - a lot of different cultures here (the couple next to me ordered Pad Thai...) so if you want some modern fusion stuff, come here. Food is tasty and fish is fresh. Cons: it's pricey. I came by myself and ordered a seaweed salad, sashimi appetizer, and one roll and it came to $32.50 before tip. The roll I ordered was a naruto roll (no rice, it's wrapped in cucumber instead), which was very tasty but it was SO BIG. I am a pretty skilled chopstick user and this just did not want to be picked up, nor could I fit it in my mouth. It was definitely three bites worth for each piece, which meant it fell apart terribly. I've had naruto rolls before and they're not the easiest to eat, but this was ridiculous.

I have not had a meal here that I don't love. Sushi is amazing. I would not get a dessert but then again I don't have a sweet tooth. Drinks never disappoint.

New to the area and have ordered several times from here. Always FRESH, DELICIOUS, and great QUALITY sushi. Highly recommend everything on their menu especially their sashimi. I also highly recommend ordering a side of their millenial sauce it is the best sauce ever!

Specialty drinks - their menu is actually a full bar menu too of all types of drinks - thought I was a bar for a second.

The quality of the sushi was delicious! They just took a very long time (atleast 30 minutes waited) for the food to be made

Is there a ramp/is it handicapped accessible?

There are no ramps but there are no steps, either. It's sort of a store front, ground level.

Sooo the food was just as tasty and fresh but had some different items which was nice. Inside is roomy and cozy. They had a small bar area and they do serve alcohol here so it's not BYOB like at Asahi. It was a tad slow on service but considering that only the owner and another waiter working that night so that's understandable. Overall it's a solid place for AYCE with a bar.

While the quality was good and we didn't have any yucky pieces of fish, they missed the mark a bit. I got the beef teriyaki for my son. He said it tasted great, and he is somewhat of a connoisseur for steak teriyakis. I was also impressed with the portion of steak for the price. Plus, the accompanying vegetables were actually ones he eats (carrots and broccoli). However, the miss here was that they forgot to include the white rice that comes with it. Very frustrating! I'm not gonna call and point this out, and I'm not going to drive back just for white rice. It's just inconvenient and frustrating. We ended up cooking a cup of white rice for him, so he had to wait ten minutes either way. The sushi and sashimi for two tasted good. All fresh, fresh fish. Similar to my last comment, I wish they'd put more variety in the platter. With so many fish to choose from, in a platter of this size, it would be so much more exciting if a broader sampling was given. Instead, I'm given 6 or 7 pieces of the same fish when combining sushi and sashimi. Other places will give no more than two of each fish. So, not perfect, not bad, and we'll see if they can impress in the future

One thing I really appreciate is that they definitely don't skimp on the sashimi portions, which isn't always the case at other all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants. I also LOVE that they offer Naruto rolls! So many other sushi spots in the area don't have them, so that's a huge plus for me. And the crispy calamari? Absolutely amazing and definitely worth ordering! I know some people have had less-than-great experiences here, but personally, we've always been treated kindly and have enjoyed our visits. The staff has been friendly, and the value is hard to beat, especially when it comes to their lunch specials. Seriously, where else can you get three sushi rolls, soup, AND salad for under $14?! In today's world, that's an incredible deal! Overall, Number One Sushi has remained one of our go-to spots for years. Between the generous portions, great variety, and affordable lunch specials, it's a place we genuinely enjoy coming back to!

I ordered a bento box meal that allowed me to choose two entrées. I went with the beef negimaki and tempura. Unfortunately, the description didn't mention that tempura was already included with the meal. Had I known that, I definitely would have chosen something different for my second entrée. The sushi itself was very fresh and delicious, which was a big plus. The rice and salad were okay, and the gyoza was fine. The shrimp tempura was actually really good, although the vegetables were a little soggy. My biggest disappointment, by far, was the beef negimaki. It honestly tasted like something that had been sitting in a freezer and was simply steamed before being served. Even the scallions looked like they had been frozen. There was very little flavor, and it was just not good at all. I happen to love beef negimaki, so this was especially disappointing. On the positive side, I think the portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and you do get a pretty good amount of food for your money. I wouldn't rule out ordering from here again, especially because the sushi was so fresh. However, I really think they need to pay more attention to the quality and freshness of all their dishes, not just the sushi. They should also update their menu descriptions so customers know exactly what they're ordering. There is definitely potential here, but that beef negimaki was honestly terrible.

Great food, atmosphere, service and price. Local neighborhood restaurant with small parking lotread more

I've been ordering from Koi 21 for years, but had never actually gone there to eat in (side note,…read morethe delivery experience with Koi is also amazing). Upon finally heading there to actually sit in the restaurant and eat, I was really pleasantly surprised. Koi is tucked away from the main stretch of restaurants in Pearl River and has its own parking lot which is an added plus. The interior of the space is really pretty - they actually have a koi pond with waterfall inside, which gives a really pretty vibe and they even have these tucked away spaces for more private dining as well. The staff is so friendly and attentive - your drink never gets close to empty before they're asking if you want a refill and the food comes out quickly. The food itself is DELICIOUS - definitely my go-to sushi spot in the area with a great variety, so if you're not a sushi fan, there's still hibachi and a lot of cooked dishes too, so there is something for everyone. The price for value is wild - the portions are big and the quality is always excellent. Some of my favorites are the crab rangoon, the veggie gyoza, tuna pizza, the rock shrimp (basically a bang bang shrimp that is SO delicious), and honestly any of the sushi rolls (the OMG and Crazy Tuna specialty rolls are always a hit and I always love a Philly roll with avocado and cucumber as well). There is a minimal upcharge for brown rice, which is my go-to. Another plus is that Koi has a full bar. The wine by the glass options are okay, but the lychee martini I had was decent! Not the best, but still a bonus and nice to have. I will still order delivery from Koi, but will also make more of an effort to get here for the great service, food, and atmosphere!
