Umi Ramen is earning an updated review from me. I previously rated them 3 stars due to several entrée mix-ups, but this most recent visit was a completely different experience...and they absolutely deserve 5 stars now. Service this time was speedy and excellent, and most importantly, all of our orders were accurate. The ramen across the board was delicious, and I didn't notice the overwhelming MSG taste that I had picked up on during a prior visit. We tried the Tonkatsu, Shoyu, and Miso ramen, and all were enjoyed. My son ordered a strawberry milk bubble tea - it was fine, though it tasted more like bottled pink milk than a fresh milk tea. One thing I really appreciated: they don't charge a credit card fee. Instead, they offer a 5% cash discount, which is the right way to handle it (by law). Big improvement all around. Food, service, and the total experience kept us happy. We'll definitely be back again. read more

I got the spicy miso ramen.......best I've ever had. Smokey flavored miso with the perfect kick. All the interns were great. It really was the best ramen I've ever had and I've had enough ramen from enough ramen places. The 4 stars rather than five comes from the other things my party got. One person got the fried tempura which was good......I don't know why anyone would get that for an entree but they did. The other one was the boneless fried chicken.....it had some funny name. This was disappointing because it had so much potential......great flavor. But like do many Asian places the fried outside to chicken inside ratio was no good. It was like popcorn chicken. My daughter and I, both vegetarian, were pleasantly surprised with this little place. We were a bit disappointed at first, since their menu only offered one vegetarian Ramen, and most of their appetizers were also meat-centric. When I suggested ordering the only vegetarian starter - seaweed salad, my daughter was unconvinced - "it's usually just a tiny mouthful, and not worth the money." It wasn't a tiny mouthful after all: the seaweed salad came on a bed of chopped romaine lettuce, giving it quite a bulk, and tasted good! The romaine lettuce well cushioned the strong vinegary taste of the seaweed. We each ordered a bowl of their vegetarian Ramen (the one and only choice for us anyway), and became truly convinced that sometimes limited choice meant a higher quality :-). The broth was made with soy milk, miso and ground sesame seeds, just like how I would have cooked it at home, and tasted fresh and delicious. The noodles wore a healthy green color (spinach juice) and were smooth with a good bouncy bite. It was a substantial meal, with lots of goodies - Tofu, Menma (bamboo shoots), tree mushroom, and chunks of crunchy broccoli. After tasting the chilli sauce on the table, I decided that this place was run by Chinese, which was confirmed by our friendly waitress. Umi Ramen is enjoyable! I ordered the ton nyu ramen (vegan) and it was pretty good! The vegetable medley, noodles, and abundant amounts of tofu stole the show! The soy broth was slightly bland, but it was to my liking since ramens I've tried in the past have been too salty/artificially flavored. The price was reasonable for the portions too. I've yet to try the bubble teas or any other menu items, but I would like to return to give them a try! The staff were super quick and friendly. Additionally, I liked the decor, lighting, and busy atmosphere. Overall, Umi Ramen is a cute place. Found a great ramen spot in Rockland!! If you guys never tried this place yet, then you're missing out! First off when we came in we were able to immediately sat down, server put in together 2 tables as we were 6 people. After that he gave us a moment to order food. We were starving after a flight. We ordered drinks, apps and of course Ramen. After few minutes our drinks arrived followed by our appetizers takoyaki,edamame and pork gyoza (forgot to take pics as we were again starving) Waited maybe 10 mins or less then our ramen arrived. Their Ramen is amazing!! We ordered takeout for a family of 6 and there wasn't a single thing we ordered that didn't taste great. At first I was fearful they would have basic flavors and seasonings, but they clearly take the time to make everything on their menu. If you like spicy ramen with a great broth, and noodles you should visit this place. Note about the owner: what an amazing person. As I mentioned, we ordered takeout and when we got to our car, our battery had died. As I was dealing with that, the store called me to inform me my order was ready for pickup and I stated that I was having car issues and would try to make it before closing (this was at 9:15 and they closed at 10:00 p.m.). They were understanding and said to take my time. They immediately called me back and said they would just deliver the food for me!! They didn't have to do that, but they did. This speaks volumes to the level of courtesy and kindness the owner and the employees have for their guests. It was an extremely kind gesture that I wouldn't have ever expected from a business owner. I am deeply grateful for their help. The owner even asked me if I needed additional help for my car. Simply incredibly kind and courteous people. THANK YOU!! I had the Gyu Donburi, a beef rice bowl. Thin sliced beef over rice, with salad and half a hard boiled egg, every thing comes in a single bowl. I just tried Umi Ramen in Nanuet. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE! IT IS AMAZING! Had the pork bun as an appetizer. Many places the bun is the most prominent taste. Not here.the bun was generously filled with delicious pork, vegis and mayo. (Don't let the mayo put you off it really makes the other ingredients sing!) Then I had the Tonkatsu Ramen. What a flavor bomb! The broth was the best tasting, most flavorful broth I've ever had. And the rest of the ingredients were delicious as well. Wanted to try this for a while. Went with my sister and son for lunch. The food came out quickly and piping hot. The portions are so large. We shouldn't have gotten the appetizers (takoyaki and deep fried octopus) AND the individual dishes(donburi eel, spicy ramen and tonkatsu ramen.. This is a great little Ramen place tucked into a strip mall. The inside feels like an authentic ramen place. They have a choice of 9 different types of Ramen. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The food came pretty quickly. For apps, we ordered chicken buns- which was ok and the rock shrimp was good. The Shoyu pork Ramen was delicious. Broth was nice and savory and I didn't think it needed any more toppings. What was provided was ample and filling. The soup was refreshing on this somewhat cool day. I had a great first time experience with my son dining at umi that I returned today with 5 other guests. On my first trip, I tried their kara-age, spicy miso ramen and brown sugar bubble tea. Everything was delicious. I do have to warn that the spicy miso ramen was a bit spicer than expected. The flavor of the ramen broth was tasty, not msg heavy. The pearls in the bubble teas were soft and chewy soaked in a caramelized flavor of brown sugar. On my second visit, we ordered pork pan fried dumplings, fried octopus and kara-age for appetizer. The fried octopus stood out the most because the octopus was cooked to perfection! The octopus was not rubbery. For ramens, we ordered the spicy miso ramens, miso ramens, and shoyu ramen. The miso ramen I had was perfect as expected. Served hot and broth was perfect to taste. I was told the spicy miso ramen was not as spicy compared to our first visit, which is a good improvement. We also ordered brown sugar bubble tea, brown sugar and matcha bubble tea, and taro milk tea. I was told all was very delicious! The flavors in the ramen we ordered were delicious. We had one seafood ramen and two tonkatsu ramen. We ordered chili oil on the side to spice it up. The seafood ramen came fully loaded with seafood and veggies. The tonkatsu had lots of good stuff in it too, maybe would add a tad more pork. Well, I came to this place 2 times in a hope that my first experience was just me got unlucky but NO, it's the service and attitude of the shop I came first time about 2 weeks ago. No one greeted, there was a guy making boba in the counter and a guy server. I sat down for a good 3 mins but no one came and asked nothing. I ended up had to come to the bar and order my food. But, there were a group of 4 that came after and they got food first. I be like this is racism. I ordered 2 portions not 1 so OK, in case someone think my order is smaller. I got frustrated but then I think ok they're newly open and I will give another shoot. I came in today, again there are a guy making boba in the bar and the same server just standing there playing on his phone. I was talking with my friend and constantly looking at them trying to get there attention but hell no, they looked at me as if I am just sitting there for fun. For about 5 mins, I asked them can I order some food, and then the server came and tell me "you have to let me know if you want to order food!!?" Really boy! What in the world I came to a restaurant and I ask for gas, or bananas?or what? When you see a customer you have to come and ask them what they need, that's what they call customers service. Then I told them "I been sitting here and want to order" There are another group of 4-5 white people came in and then the sever came out and serve them so nicely...so that's unequal to me. I paid the same money. I left them tips always even tho they treat me like I don't deserve there business. On top of that, they made my food so cold and salty. They do not want my business.
