I have seriously mixed feelings about No. 1 Sushi in Nanuet. On one hand -- the food? Absolutely fantastic. The sushi was fresh, beautifully prepared, and honestly some of the best I've had in the area. Every bite was flavorful and expertly made. We also ordered a few hot dishes, and they came out piping hot and delicious -- clearly made with care and quality ingredients. But unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. It took a long time for anyone to acknowledge us after we were seated, and even longer to get our order taken. Throughout the meal, we felt ignored -- no one checked in, and getting things like water refills or even the check required waving someone down. The staff didn't seem rude, just extremely inattentive and disorganized. Bottom line: Go for the food -- it's truly top-notch -- but don't expect to be wowed by the hospitality. Hopefully they can improve the service, because the kitchen is clearly doing something right. read more

Pretty busy for Monday evening which can't be a bad thing. I was here once years ago, but decided to give it another try. Menu is on par with other local all you can eat sushi places. You can either order kitchen, food or sushi. We tried a variety of dishes, almost all the kitchen menu, and a few of their specialty rolls. One thing to note which isn't bad is that the amount of fish they use is enormous. They are extremely generous but therefore the roles are also very filling. This is a huge plus for me as I prefer more fish and less rice. Our waitress was attentive and the place was clean. Plenty of parking to be found in the complex as there are many other stores and the lots are huge. The main reason for 4 stars versus 5 is there were a couple times we asked what an item was and the wait stuff wasn't sure or able to advise us. I'm not sure if they're just used to pushing out orders based on what people write down so I haven't taken the time to study, but it was a little challenging. Would be back. Be back read more

They served us lo mein that had a bug in it. Service was horrific, prior to the bug incident they were not even bringing out everything that we ordered. Stopped eating as soon as we saw the dead bug in the lo mein and promptly showed the waitress to which she grabbed it from me then gave me a measly 15% discount to " make up for it". Dinner here is always great. Dined here with my daughters last night and did the all you can eat menu. We were placed at the round corner table. It's actually a fantastic setup for sharing food. I'm disappointed to be writing this review, as I've always enjoyed ordering from this place. Yesterday, my mom placed an order for pickup; it was my birthday, and I specifically wanted food from here. Unfortunately, the experience was far from what we've come to expect. On 11/14 around 8 PM, my mom called to place the order. She spoke with a woman who was rude and gave her a hard time over something as simple as adding side of eel sauce for my sushi, which has never been an issue in this no1 or the one that closed down in pearl river. Despite my mom's polite request, the woman on the phone was uncooperative and reluctant to include the sauce. After some back and forth, the woman begrudgingly said she'd add the side of sauce--but never did. To make matters worse, one of the items we ordered, the beef teriyaki, was completely inedible because it was full of fat. It's disappointing, especially since we've been loyal customers. We used to frequent No. 1 Sushi in Pearl River, which was much closer to us, but since it closed, this location has been our only option--despite the inconvenience of the longer drive. It's upsetting to witness and experience such poor service, especially on my bday. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so no one else has to go through this. read more

The sushi and food was good but the service was horrible. The kitchen food came out earlier than the sushi. We had to wait around 20 minutes for the sushi to be brought to our table. Some of the sushi items were missing and we had to ask the server three times to check on it. Finally gave up and ordered dessert and when I asked for the check, she then brought my sushi to the table. Word of advice to the owner: hire atleast two more EXPERIENCED servers. It's a shame to see a good restaurant suffer because of bad service. read more

Good Sushi but charges an extra $1 for a side of spicy mayo. I said I don't have a need for any of the other sauces included I just want a side of spicy mayo for my 3 sushi rolls. I'm not sure what happened but it seems like the quality of food went down. Our waitress didn't greet us or even make eye contact so much so she did not notice we already had silverware. They do have a lot of vegetarian options which is what draw my meat eating husband and my vegetarian self to it. The seaweed salad looked extra slimey my husband ate it and said it wasn't good. The miso soup bowls portion sizes were made extra small. The Edaname was served cold which it never was before. The first round of teriyaki tofu was great no complaints but the second round of food was off. My husband's temporia was super greasy. The second round of teriyaki tofu was greasy and actually made me sick. The dessert round was the redemption. The fried oreos and bananas were delicious. The combo of fried oreo and ice cream was . Yo this place is lit af. I was visiting some friends and they said this place was their favorite spot for AYCE sushi. Food was pretty good, tasted the same if not better than ayce places in the bay area. Best part was the UNLIMITED SASHIMI!!!!! Most places in the bay have a limit on this so I was super surprised at it. What really stood out though was the service. The front lady, Winnie, was super nice to me and my group. Sounding kinda like a simp but my friends saying that she was a big reason they chose this place over other ayce and I do not disagree. The service at this restaurant is absolutely pathetic. To compare the service here with restaurants with actual poor service with would be insult to the latter. The 3 female servers we dealt clearly had no experience working in the service industry and had zero customer service skills. Talk about being put in awkward situations just for attempting to have them provide you with silverware or a glass of water. We watched them on more than one occasion during the same meal get into an argument with each other and the sushi chefs. It was nearly impossible to be provided with anything you needed because they blatantly ignored you when walking by and never stopped once ask how everything was. After figuring out our sushi plates were sitting on top of the sushi bar for almost 20 minutes we decided we would get up and ask if it was our food. The chef saw exactly what was going and yelled at one of the female servers which led her to angrily grab the plates and carelessly dropped them on our table making a loud noise, causing some of the rolls to falls over and stormed away. Word to the wise... This place will charge you the full adult price for a toddler in a high chair who ate next to nothing besides some noodles if you're not on top of the bill. They won't forget to overcharge you for a child but you can guarantee they won't bring your child a plate, silverware, a water or any napkins. We've been coming to No. 1 Sushi for over a decade in Pearl River and Nanuet since it opened and were officially done. The restaurant industry in Rockland / Bergen are now flooded with better AYCE Sushi these days and the luster has worn off on this once unique dining experience. read more
