first of all, the dumplings are fabulous - it was the bartender at one of its sister restaurants The Pub Street Bistro across the street - who told me about them so now Pub Street has almost lost me as a happy hour customer the bartenders are really interesting and pleasant and welcoming as well at first i didn't like the ambience as much as Pub Street - it seemed sort of dark and gloomy but now i find it cozy and comfortable and the clientele can be very friendly as well and they give you a generous poor of delicious cabernet from Washington State the only problem is that their happy hour does not start until 4 whereas Pub Street starts at 3 i do not drive and take the train to Pleasantville to go to the Jacob Burns Film Center around the corner but can't imagine going there without combining it with a visit to Pub Street or Fatt Root the problem is that often the movie schedule does not mesh with a 4 opening time - you would have to wait an hour or so so i really wish and plead with the management that they move the opening of happy hour to 3 instead of 4 and i will be theirs for life! thank you for the past and the future i hope! read more

I was really excited to try this place after hearing and seeing so many good things, but I ended up leaving a bit disappointed. It was good, just not great. I went with my family on Christmas Eve Eve -- we have a tradition of going out for ramen -- and since our usual spot was closed, we decided to switch it up and try this place. While the ramen itself was fine, I found it to be lacking in flavor compared to what I'm used to. I also ordered ramen with pork belly, and it felt like it could have been cooked more. The same was true for the pork belly bao appetizer -- the meat was cooked, but not particularly well prepared or tender. That said, the menu overall looked interesting, with plenty of other dishes that sounded appealing, so I'd be open to coming back to try something different. One positive note: we were able to walk in and get seated immediately as a party of four around 6:30pm, which was definitely a plus, especially during the holidays. read more

I have been to this Restaurant 4 times already. My favorite Items on the Menu are: Chicken Dumplings in a spicy peanut chili oil and scallions. Mango Salad Duck Buns Spicy Miso Ramen. Korean Wings are ok, but they can use a little more flavor/sauce. Service is good and restaurant is quiet enough where you can still have a conversation with your friends. Service excellent sat and decided what to eat and within 30 mins drinks, apps, dinner all served, not together but within enough time to enjoy each and get the next, my spicy ramen wasn't so spicy but delicious. I have not one bad thing to say except the ladies next to us chatting up a storm after they were done and paid their check and didn't leave lol normally I wouldn't care but the were very close and loud lol highly recommend and I will be back to try other things on their menu. read more

I will warn you, the spicy crispy chicken bowl is seriously addictive- the cabbage, sauce and crunchy chicken is out of this world and every bite feels as exciting as the first, but it is surprisingly filling. I don't know how this never came across my radar until last night as I feel like we've ordered from pretty much every other place with decent reviews in the area. Impossible dan dan was a given and GF took the fall on that out after a long day of work. I am on emergency diet because of recent changes in the body habitus so I convinced myself that ordering another noodle dish with spinach was somehow better. I asked GF why the spicy beef noodles had to had beef (weary face emoji) but much to my very pleasant surprise, you can substitute impossible for regular beef! You can't go wrong with kyuzu kosho pesto holy shit and they had caramelized cashews!!!! The spinach made me feel better about myself. This is our go-to place either for sit down dinners or takeout in our area, which includes Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and other nearby towns. Their menu is terrific, as is the service. I have my preferences, but the reality is that when friends and relatives order, we are uniformly delighted with the dishes that Fatt Root produces. WOW. I left a review for this spot exactly a year ago. Nothing has changed negatively and the food is still amazing. I think there were some new menu items since last year, but I wasn't certain. The only complaint I could ever give about this place is that parking isn't always available, and they don't control the street. We were immediately greeted by the host who had a few tables available, one being the window, and without even having to request it, she sat us there. The atmosphere in here is very warm and relaxed. We were seated close to another table, but nothing in the zone of uncomfortable. We knew what we wanted and our server agreed to bring out everything all at once, including the appetizers. I love that they have Asahi here, and it arrived with a frozen glass! Really nice touch when you're not expecting it. This time around we ordered the Crispy Chicken Bao Buns and I ordered the Korean Skirt Steak. My kids got ramen, which is there go to and they LOVE LOVE LOVE it. So much so, they won't get anything else, let alone try anything else. My 2nd year student also likes to get the Hibiscus Iced Tea and my other one, a Shirley Temple, lol. It's funny, we live in the same town as Fatt Root but had never been there. My husband and I recently decided to give it a spontaneous try because friends who live a distance away said they enjoyed it. So... first impressions.... Pretty place . The place was very busy so we were seated at a high top. We decided to start with some Sake. I didn't realize that it comes in a glass (not traditional bottle), I had thought I was sharing with my husband in those little cups. She brought over the glass , realizing my misunderstanding I asked her to bring another glass over (empty to share), lol , my bad, she brought another glass of sake ($11 each!) I dont know but Sake is not usually that pricey in the nicer Asian restaurants. We took and , didn't complain, I understood the confusion. We ordered a couple of apps, dumplings and a tuna with rice balls. Both items were delicious. For our entree we ordered a chickenSatay (fried) rice bowl of some sort. We ordered it to share. It was also very tasty! They split it for us, plenty to eat! Our only real complaint is the noise level in there is super loud! Everyone around us sounded like they were yelling to make conversation, you could hear them several tables away. I think I would order from them next time and eat at home. :) They are close enough! Friendly to vegetarians and vegans. Some such dishes are noted on the menu, and the staff informed us that almost any dish could have its protein swapped, so you could for example get tofu instead of chicken. Would be helpful for the menu to indicate when protein or spiciness are adjustable. Food was served less than 10 minutes from ordering (we were the only customers at the time) and tasted fresh and healthy. Would go back! read more

While the food was very good, the waitress was clearly an abusive psycho. She went from explaining the ramen menu in detail, to being verbally abusive when I asked for a bag to carry my leftover food in. When I requested a plastic and/or paper bag, she said, "Sure." When she gave me the bag, she said, "I never understood why people ask for a bag when it's only one item. (Remaining ramen was placed in a plastic container.) I replied, "So in case it leaks." She then continued by saying, "It's not going to leak because it's sealed." In hindsight, I did not need to explain why I wanted my food to be placed in a bag, nor did this waitress need to concern herself to the point of complaining about it to me. She clearly has her own issues, and should not be taking it out on the customer. In spite of my experience, I remained professional and left her a 15% tip which she did not even deserve. This place was pretty decent. We got the tonkotsu ramen and the tuna poke bowl. The poke bowl was a generous portion size with a lot of tuna and a variety of greens. The tonkotsu ramen was one of the more average ramens I've had. The broth didn't have too much flavor, and it didn't come with enough meat or side veggies in my opinion. Had a wonderful lunch here. I always pass by it but decided to try it today. Well, it didn't disappoint! We started off with the peanut chicken wings and the chicken bao buns. The wings were very crispy and delicious in a nice peanutty cilantro sauce. ....About the bao buns...wow!! It was the perfect pillowy sandwich! Krispy chicken with a nice spiced mayonnaise and hoisin. Crunchy veggies... yum! I probably could've eaten four! But I wanted to try other things For entrées, we ordered the Vietnamese pho and the chicken coconut curry bowl. The pho was outstanding! A rich broth filled with flavors of star anise and pork belly. The pork belly in the soup was so tender and delicious. The chicken coconut curry was spicy and excellent, with flavors of lemon grass and cilantro in the curry. Loved it! I made plans to catch a movie at the nearby Jacob Burns Film Center, but not before grabbing some food. I had heard good things about Fatt Root and since it was right around the corner from JBFC, we decided to stop in and check it out. Fatt Root is located among a number of businesses in the commercial hub of Pleasantville. It has a pretty welcoming exterior - there are large windows which give view to the entire interior from the outside. Walking in, there's an ordering/pickup counter at the back and a number of tables throughout the space. It's not a large restaurant but not cramped either - there's ample room for social distancing the tables while also holding a good amount of people. They did a good job with the decor - kind of sparse but the red chairs with light wood tables paired with large plants created a pleasing aesthetic. I can say more can be done with the decor, but it was good for what it was. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by an employee who directed us to take any table we would like. The menu was mostly Thai fusion, and had a good selection of apps, salads, rice bowls, and ramen. I saw they had a handful of dumpling varieties, so we went with Thai chicken dumplings and crispy shrimp dumplings. Both were quite tasty, I thought the shrimp ones were slightly better but both solid offerings. We also decided to get the roti app - it had a good consistency and the chicken curry it came with really added good flavor to the dish. For my main I got the soy glazed wok chicken rice bowl. I really enjoyed this - they were generous with the chicken and rice, plus they added some greens to freshen up the bowl. It was presented beautifully with good flavor. Service was good; they were super busy with takeout orders so there was a little wait for us to get our food, but I totally understood because they were not stopping back there fulfilling orders and quickly tending to everyone that came to pick up. Overall, I had a good first experience at Fatt Root. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but this is a great neighborhood spot and a perfect place to grab food either before or after a movie. read more

Have heard amazing things and finally got to try dining in. I thought it was ok - not something I'd necessarily drive 20+ minutes for again. Everyone I was with, though, loved it. We tried most of the small plates - the chicken dumplings and the veggie empanada were my favorites. Chicken in satay bowl was very flavorful and tender, but it was a ton of rice compared to the amount of chicken. Kids chicken noodle soup was very bland, none of the kids liked it, but the meat in the kids beef noodles was cooked exceptionally well and was very flavorful. I had the Thai beef salad and I can't stop thinking about it. My husband had the satay bowl. They revamped the whole concept and did a great job. The service there is so nice, actually attentive and significantly better than I expected especially these days. The redid the interior and have a nice bar. I was in the neighborhood to check out some eyeglasses and stopped by this restaurant for lunches and it didn't disappoint me. The overall envy is cozy. I'm never a big fan of Asian fusion foods but this place does offer something special. I ordered spicy beef noodles. And it turns out to by ground beef dry noodles. I ordered the steak and egg dish which had a strange combo of flavors and textures. Sweet, sour, spicy, but didn't mesh well together like other Asian dishes. The biggest thing that threw me off was the soft boiled egg that was ice cold. I dipped mine in my wife's ramen broth so I wouldn't get a brain freeze trying to eat it. The modest dining room doesn't do the menu justice. Everything ordered this night was a tasteful success. Shared starters of the "Shrimp Toast" and "Chicken Dumplings" brought tremendous smiles upon everyone. For our main courses the "Spicy Crunchy Zesty Chicken" came alive with flavor. However, we both found a number of pleasing dishes to share and satisfy both of our palettes. We started with edamame, kale dumplings, crispy broccoli and Korean wings (for me). My main course was spicy crunchy zesty chicken bowl. She substituted chicken with tofu for her dish. All of the dishes 'popped' with flavor and the portions generous all around.
