Kwan Thai is a gem in Pearl River! The service was great -- the owner was there during our visit, and she was warm, quick, and attentive, which made the experience even better. Everything we had was delicious. We tried their off-menu corned beef spring roll (highly recommend!) and then shared a mix of classics: Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, and Thai Basil Fried Rice. Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and truly delicious -- a great Thai option in the area! I went with my dad and husband; my dad had been before and recommended we go, and he was totally right. This place seems to be well liked generally (and others have said it's authentic Thai) but it has never wowed me over the years and recent takeout was underwhelming. If you do dine here, I suggest skipping the appetizers and going straight to the main course options. Regarding the apps, the duck pancake was actually in a green wrap (which seemed odd) and the sauce overpowered the bits of duck inside. The spring rolls were large and had what looked to be alternative meat or something with similar consistency and didn't seem overall that fresh. The fried spring rolls were "ok." The best thing was the pad prik with veggies and tofu which wasn't oily but also didn't feel like it was amazing. It appears you can order online when they're open which is a plus if you hate using the phone. I'll leave the caveat that I'm not a Thai food connoisseur but usually enjoy it. I wish that I felt more positive since it's a small business! Maybe I'd give them another chance if I was eating in the restaurant. Metered street parking and doesn't seem too hard to find parking. Cute little Thai spot in Pearl River. Service was good, and food came out faster than I expected. We ordered tempura shrimp and vegetable dumplings for the table for appetizers. For an entree I ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp. The pad Thai had a different flavor than I am used to, a little more spicy, but it was still good. I LOVE Kwan - the food, the vibe, the people are absolutely amazing through and through. The food is consistently nothing short of amazing - they have 4 different varieties of spice ranging from mild to Thai Spicy, which warns you that if you order this, you don't get your money back because you're a cry baby. As someone who loves spice, I've gone as far as "spicy," here because I'm not about to be known as the cry baby who can't handle spice, but I love that this is an option! As far as apps go, I love the bang bang shrimp, grilled sesame tuna, and the shrimp tempura and everything has been SO good and really solid portion sizes too! For mains, I always get the shrimp, though you have the option of beef, chicken, pork, tofu, or shrimp (shrimp is an upcharge) with entrees. I HIGHLY recommend the Pad Prik (hot chili sauce with chilis, peppers, and onions), Pad Phed (red curry and veggies), Keang Phed (red curry, bamboo shoots, cabbage), and of course, Pad Thai, a total mainstay. Kwan also has an entire vegetarian menu as well, which is a really nice ad! They also have a full bar with limited bar seating, which is another positive - my favorite part of sitting at the bar is watching Jeopardy and Family Feud with everyone at the bar; it just makes for a really fun vibe and was something I've definitely enjoyed fully when there. Kwan is the kind of place that when I tell people I live near Pearl River, they immediately ask, "Have you been to Kwan yet?!" This place has so much character. Friendly staff and really authentic food. I walked in and the place was bustling with takeout traffic at level I have not seen as of late during these times. The establishment is Covid compliant and offer optional patron screening. Patrons are appropriately distanced and the place is impeccably clean. The staff is gracious, professional and attentive. The menu can be made gluten free/vegan. The medley of savory spices and flavors have me wondering where this establishment as been all my life! I had drunken noodles with vegetables and it hit the palatable spot! They do serve alcohol. They can also accommodate larger parties without anyone feeling uncomfortable in today's times. I would definitely recommend this place and will be returning in the near future to try some of the other entrees like the new Grilled Sesame Tuna over salad with ginger dressing. Came here earlier today for family date night when they just opened 5pm. We were the first to get seated and boy did it get busy quick. I believe it was the owner, owners husband and another worker. All Handling tables, the bar and pick up/take out orders in person and phone. I must say they are def on point with service just as much as they are with their food! Wish I took pics of the menu, not realizing there wasn't any on here. But there is a menu on their site which seems pretty accurate to me. Let's just say I'm Cambodian and Chinese aka our food is very similar to Thai cooking. It felt like my mom cooked for me. Hats off to the chef! I only wish I wasn't vegetarian and could of tried everything we ordered! Appetizers we had MEE GROB and TAO HOO TOD. Super jealous I didn't taste the mee grob cz it looks so tasty! The boys loved it and saved some of the noodle to top off their entrees for a extra crunch. The Tao hoo tod was great, it was like a puffed tofu but juicy. Which I've used puffed tofu many times and it was always dried so hey whatever you guys do to them? Keep it up cz it works! I had the MIXED VEGETABLE PAD PHED and it def has a kick of heat but with the rice mixed in? It calmed it down plus sips of beer always helps haha Husband had the pad Thai and said the flavor was great. It wasn't over powering as usually other places put way too much fish sauce and sugar that everything else cancels out. So it was a good balance. Our son had the drunken noodle and said it was good but I saw him pushing away too much aka less noodle than he expected. Can't actually comment on the taste tho. It was our first time coming and def won't be our last. We live only 7 mins away and yet never seen this place. It's In a cute lil town on the border line of ny and nj. Parking meters are everywhere, everyone wore a mask, social distancing and no overcrowded seatings. Portions were pretty big as well and decent price. I believe there was a cc charge which I didn't bother reading to see why. I mean come on we're in a pandemic... I'll gladly give a few extra bucks to support the locals. The owners and the servers are extremely fun to talk to. The servers will never allow a cup of water to be empty - extremely important for us on these hot summer days! Lol They have a decent bar and great service. The food is authentic and delicious, and you get to order your preferred spicy level! My favorites were the summer rolls and the chicken drunken noodle. Amazing Thai food with a nice ambiance. The service was fast enough. Singha Thai beer was nice but has only 5% alcohol. For food, you can specify the spice level that you would like. My friends tried Tom Kha Gai soup and they like it. My husband really liked Drunken Noodle with chicken. I ordered Mixed Vegetables Pad Phed (which is sautéed with red curry, onion, bell pepper, basil and coconut milk) after I verified they do not use butter for that. It was delicious but we think that it is spicy even I asked for mild, so be ready! By the way, Mixed Vegetables Pad Phed comes with a small bowl of rice so I had to order one more rice bowl to balance the spice level; but overall, it was a great experience! Note: They charged extra 3.99% as credit card fee without warning us about that.. It was around 5 dollars for us. This is the best Thai food I've ever had! I always get the bang bang shrimp and the chicken pad Thai (spicy). They're delicious! Tonight I got the keanh kiew wan which is green curry with coconut milk, eggplant, chili and sweet basil leaves. I got it with chicken. It comes with rice. It was out of this world! It's great if you're gluten-free as well they offer a lot of options. I know my presentation doesn't do it justice but I got my food to-go tonight. I walked in here the other day, I had a small puppy with me in a travel case. After walking in and being seated, the owner or manager, was so rude to us. He is prob the manager cause no owner would be this rude. He basically yelled at us that we can't stay here with that dog. He said it so loud so everyone in the restaurant could hear and in such a condescending tone that everyone turned to see what the commotion was about. Considering he saw us right outside the front door, putting the dog in the travel case, you would think he could use some manners to speak to us at that time and with an ounce of respect. He is sloppy and rude just like the other staff members I saw that day. We went to Joe&Joe a block away who were so polite and warm and welcoming. Food was great. Service was good. I was eating alone and it was my first time there. I tipped the server well. As I was departing, the bartender requested me to stop and give him a hug. I did. What followed was one of the weirdest encounters I've had (and I've had quite a few). We stood there shaking hands for maybe five minutes while he was talking gibberish. This was in front of other patrons. This bartender was now invading my space and my time. There even was talk of someone punching someone. It was just bizarre behavior. I didn't initiate it and I didn't want any part of it. Is this how Kwan Thai treats its first-time customers? I have a healthy sense of humor and this was not funny. It's alright. Had a team dinner here last night for dinner. Kwan Spring Rolls: 4/5. Very crunchy and had enough fillings. Grilled Dumplings: 0/5. Do not get this! Just get a frozen dumplings from nearby Asian grocery store. It'll taste better. The dumplings were not defrosted enough and the flavor was hard to understand. Jumbo coconut shrimp: 4/5. Well fried and shrimp was actually jumbo size. The sauce was delicious as well. Keang Ped Yang: 3.5/5. Very generous amount of duck inside the curry. Duck was cooked well in that it didn't have the smell and had good texture. The curry, however, was disappointing. It didn't have the kick that thai curries have. I make my own thai curry at home and I think I could've done better. But overall, duck was delicious. Green tea icecream: meh. Fried ice cream: 0/5. OMG where do I start!!! A disaster from the start! Had High hopes, but from moment we walked in the service was non existent! Felt like I was in a homeless shelter with people sitting at tables just waiting for food! Mind you this was only 6pm! They pay more attention to their take out orders than the customers sitting waiting for appetizers and placing orders. They have no staff and very rude! I don't like being called LADY???? Food came out one at a time so even if you weren't sharing you had to cause you were starving! Apps just mediocre and thrown on your table! Main meal was also disappointing as nothing was as expected? Lobster was not in shell and did not taste fresh???? Sesame chicken was not breaded and bland? Shrimp was previously frozen and limp? I can go on and on! They need to decide if it is a take out or a dine in???? Because with at least 12 tables of 4 or more with a staff of 3 and a small bar is not going to work!!!!! There are plenty of Thai restaurants out there be smart and try one! A plus and appreciation to the waitress who was working her ass off home from college putting up with all this bull ###. I was excited to go here because of the high reviews but this place totally takes advantage. The portions are small!!! Our Thai iced teas came out first (two sips worth). Then my pad see ew came out. I usually have leftovers to bring home cause I can never finish, but this plate was SMALL. I inhaled everything so quickly and still felt hungry afterwards. I dined here for the first time last Friday. I heard about their lobster paid thai so I tried it and I must say it was the bombbbb. I think I will order it every time I eat here. I've gone to Kwan Thai for quite a long time now. I've been there dozens of times over the years. I like their food. When I've eaten in, the wait staff has been fine. The prices are maybe a tad high for a noodle and vegetable based cuisine, but not outrageous. There's nothing spectacular about the place, but there's nothing terrible either. Here's my complaint: I've just noticed that they charge me a 3.99% for using a credit card. I dare say most customers use a credit card for their purchases. I've never noticed this charge at any other restaurant. I feel like I'm getting gouged a bit. And most credit cards charge 2.5% or less, so they're making a profit above their fee. I don't appreciate the money grab. You've lost a consistent customer and earned this review. read more

I was very impressed with Kwan Thai Restaurant! The restaurant menu included the most helpful description and introduction to Thai food I've ever seen. For instance, the menu includes an entire page that describes the spice level (mild, medium, spicy, and Thai spicy). The description is humorous and I could feel that they care for its customers to get the most out of their food. Having that description in mind, I ordered medium spicy shrimp pad thai and that was just the right amount of spicy for me (actually more spicy than I first expected, though). Pad thai came with a generous mount of shrimp, so much that I still had three big shrimp in my leftover. read more

Food and drinks are great, and very friendly staff. The bathrooms are rundown and dirty, somewhat gross, so it almost moved this review down to a 3 star. If this was an old Pearl River bar with no food I would understand. A small investment could bring this establishment up to what they otherwise deserve. Glad my wife didn't use the restroom or it might have been the last visit... They specialize in homemade sauces which are delicious yet be careful of the level of spice you ask for, things can get very hot and even the mild sauce is delicious and can be later supplemented with hot sauces available on the tables. read more

Had a hard time looking for parking! Went 4x doing circles just to look for one. The place was nice inside and looks clean. First Thai iced tea we ordered was good. When we ordered next it tasted like water. A lot of ice that they put in we requested to put a little. On the other hand their pad thai was good! (Not that good because I went to Thailand few months back and tasted best pad thai ever), chicken sate was good also dips are great. Some foods we ate are good but not amazing. Their fried wantons were also amazing just a bit greasy. The Thai omelette was a disaster!! It is swimming in oil. Need to put paper towel just to get rid of the flowing oil on the plate. Very happy to try this place out. Can't believe we've never been here before! Authentic Thai food greeted by friendly and accommodating staff. The pineapple fried rice was the best! A definite must try. The tom yum goong soup had lots of fresh shrimp. Spice wise, be sure to read the spice level. I love spicy food but I can only take up to medium level. The dumpling soup was also very good and the satay much better than most places. The peanut sauce could have been thicker but overall still extremely happy with this place. I really wanted to like this place but i feel like I need to give an honest review to help others. The taste of the food is horrible. It does not taste like authentic Thai cuisine AT ALL. We started with chicken puffs and they were mediocre. For entrees my husband and I ordered chicken pad Thai and beef drunken noodles. The pad Thai was SO sweet that you would think that it was sprinkled with a ton of sugar or syrup. EVEN worse was the drunken noodle that had no resemblance to any other drunken noodle I have ever tasted. It was not appetizing at all...I felt bad to throw it all out so I told them to pack it up so I can take it home to throw it out. The only thing that is saving them is their service. They tried their best to seat us away from the noisy crowd that gathered to watch the Yankees game (who comes to a thai restaurant to watch a sports game?!?) The staff was friendly and attentive and cracked jokes in between even while they were running around. The prices are also pretty high than most Thai restaurants. A plate of pineapple fried rice costs $22?!! I would not recommend this place for Thai food, sorry! read more
