Plate with 2 Entrees (Spicy Orange Chicken and Broccoli Beef.. if you can even see the entrees)
    Kimberly P.

[ Food ] We ordered the plate with 2 entrees, it was for the $5 deal when the Dodgers win a game and they were heavy on the chow mein to compensate for the lack of protein for the Spicy Orange Chicken and Broccoli Beef... [ Service ] The person who gave us our order seemed nice. [ Parking ] There's free 90 minutes parking in the back or metered street parking in front of the restaurant.

I only get 1 item at Panda and that's their scrumptious, slightly charred and satisfyingly crunchy chow mein. For $6 large box, it's also unbeatable value. This location in south Lake does not disappoint. Also got their watermelon mango drink, it's bland and watery, but can't complain at $3. Nice upscale ambience for a Chinese fast food place.

I had super low expectations based on my experiences in the east coast but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if all (west coast) panda locations are like this but the service was great, the food was fresh, and they have craft drinks! I got the plate which came with 2 entrees and a side. I went with chow mein, honey sesame chicken, and eggplant. What impressed me the most was that they were refilling the options constantly and if it was running low, they gave the option to wait for the new batch which was already on the way. I'm not much of a fast food Chinese American eater but this will definitely be a location to add to the books if I'm in the area shopping and starving.

Overall a good experience from this Panda! I stopped by for lunch after doing some shopping nearby and thankfully it wasn't busy at all. The parking lot in the back leads directly into the restaurant which is convenient bc finding parking on Lake is... not happening lol. Service was great I was greeted as soon as I walked. In. I ordered steamed rice with orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp. The orange Chicken was very good as per usual, but the the shrimp and rice were a little under and over cooked for my liking. I still enjoyed my meal though!

Update: I returned to give them another try. The food was good and the portions were finally reasonable. However, the service was horrid. A man cut in front of me and the staff took his order while ignoring me completely. It was a strange and frustrating experience, so I won't be back. It seems you have to choose between good food or good service here, but you can't get both. It is a shame because the location and interior is really nice. I would go there for WiFi or to meet someone publicly to get tea, but not to get food.

Officially my new favorite Panda Express location. Orange chicken PLUS special teas? Yes, please! Not to mention they have some of the nicest, most on point staff here. There is a parking lot in the back or street metered parking out front. Clean, well stocked, organized and efficient location well stocked with tons of options. I had the pineapple pomegranate lemonade and it was so delish. My orange chicken bowl was the usual hot, crispy and tasty I've come to expect from Panda.

Refreshing New clean Panda Express restaurant with Tea Bar. Simple clean organized restaurant inside. Stopped by for a quick bite as the day permits. Grabbed some quick comfort food rather than sandwiches and healthy joints nearby. Ordered the plate with 2 entrees, started with Half Fried rice, Half chow mein with popular Orange Chicken and Beef with Broccoli. Parking is available on the street or in the rear parking lot in the rear of Bldg. Good location and option to eat on Lake Avenue just south of Colorado Blvd.

    Terrible food!

You order and pay at the front, then get seated. I love the decor and ambiance as well! The items we tried: - Mama Fong's five spice chicken wings - these were definitely the standout for me - they came out piping hot, super fresh, and perfectly seasoned and garlicky - Cold sesame noodles (we added chicken) - chewy and thick noodles with a delicious marinated tofu, pickled cucumber, and a flavorful seasoning and sesame sauce! Such a yummy and satisfying comfort dish - Milk tea French toast - with milk bread, black tea custard, and black tea maple syrup. What we ordered: MAMA FONG'S FIVE SPICE CHICKEN WINGS So, so good -- crispy, flavorful, and absolutely addictive. One dish we always order. BEEF NOODLES That charred flavor adds such a rich, smoky depth to the dish. FRIED RICE Everything in this fried rice is perfectly balanced. The mix of white and black rice somehow makes it feel a little extra magical. Highly recommend this place!

Bowls of steamed rice cost $2.50, and we each got one. Portions are generously large and worth the cost; we took leftovers home. The tea offered to us tasted good. The slippery shrimp had a nice crisp with a pleasant blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. There's a slight spice from the red chili that felt mild on my tongue. This was our first time trying out the dish, and we liked it the most. The orange chicken tasted solid, and it had a slightly crispy texture. For some reason, the rice had an aftertaste I wasn't familiar with, but it was still fresh. There was a fortune cookie at the end of our meal. I'd come back for the slippery shrimp and order something other than the orange chicken. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and we were one of the first customers to dine in. The ambience was quiet and relaxed, but they got busier as many more people arrived. Service was good as the staff packed our leftovers in containers for us. Our server asked us where we were from as he was used to seeing regulars during the time we visited. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try

I was surprised to read here on Yelp that the original famed chef left for a few years and recently returned, because I did not notice any major changes in the quality of the dishes I usually order. The current manager was my waiter this time, and he said that staffing has been a challenge; he himself also worked here, left , and returned. Colette offers a somewhat non-traditional, somewhat elevated menu, not as varied as other Chinese places, although they do offer dim sum and lunch specials. Note the menu on the website is old and kind of obsolete; the newer menu, which is laminated and has photos, is more extensive. The dish I always order is their fabulous chayote minced pork. I've also ordered their live lobster when I have a hankering. They have the lobsters and crabs in tanks on view, priced per pound. They can prepare it in several ways; I always choose stir-fried with ginger and scallions and add noodles. They also have some specialty dishes like winter melon soup that you must order in advance. I ordered 3 other dishes, only one for the first time. That was honey-glazed beef cubes. Slices of beef covered in sliced almonds on a bed of asparagus with an orange sauce that was similar to orange marmalade. Tasty and unique. The other 2 dishes that I've had before were the golden yolk luffa and the goo-loo pork (aka sweet and sour pork). Luffa is a gourd (like a cucumber) that is edible when young, but turns into the fibrous sponges we bathe with when mature. It's slighty bitter, here stir-fried with salted egg yolk. The pork was pretty traditional, slightly elevated with the addition of strawberries. For me, a reliable neighbourhood spot for Chinese. I hope they can keep it together.
