On Dec. 29, 2021, For the New Year coming soon, thought I try Chinese mandarin style. Two choices, of teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, and of course their Chow-Fun. Today was the worst experience. Panda is normally awesome. Today's crew not so much. This crew of workers weren't on there game for dinner rush. The normal workers who are awesome weren't present. No chow fun, small line of customers got longer and longer. No communication between the line workers and the two cooks as things ran out over and over while I sat for 5 minutes waiting on noodles. When my daughter was here for the Summer, she made sure to stop at Panda Express, for only chow fun. On the day she left, her BF wanted her to bring back chow fun from Panda. I was so shocked, that out of all Hawaii foods, he wanted Panda Express. Did you know that chow fun @ Panda is a Hawaii thing? Chow fun is not available on the mainland. I just learned something new. Although my daughter"s friend didn't get his chow fun, my daughter ate some for him. After talks of Panda's chow fun with my daughter and talks about Panda Express at work, even reading a recent 5 star Panda's Express review by CM Emi. I made it a point, that I must come pick up a plate for lunch. Its been a long time I had food from Panda's and if I do, I only go to one location and not anywhere else, which is located at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. I like this location as it is clean, nice, and the older Chinese lady cashier is super nice. During my recent visit, I can't say the the same for the other worker who takes your food order, that lady worker was very rude. There was a mix up with my order that day and she wasn't very nice about it. I hope her customer service skills improves, when I visit again. Its always hard to make a decision on entrees, but I have to stick to my favorites, string beans with chicken, mushroom chicken, and half chow fun and fried rice. I did the survey with my daughter's receipt and I was able to use it during this visit to receive a free entrée ( with purchase of 2 item entrée). I decided to get the orange chicken as the free entrée. Not bad price for 2 item entrée 8.60. The portions are great and I even had leftovers for lunch the next day. I really enjoyed my meal, it tasted so fresh, I was lucky as the food I order were all made fresh that day. I do admit, the food at Panda's Express is really good based on my selections. Overall, I had a great experience, enjoyed my lunch and I can't wait to come back for my next Panda's fix. I just won't let the daughter know that I had chow fun from Panda's Express. This is a COVID19 review. Panda's had a simple set up, side door put in your order, and back door pick it up. Simple. The menu was modified, no chow fun, and limited items, but still enough to make this girl happy. I appreciate that this location took extra steps to ensure their employees safety by putting up plastic barriers at both the ordering and pick up "windows". Customers waited outside for their orders, which were given through a hole in the plastic barrier. When you order, you write your name down, so they can call you when your order is ready. Today we were loudly asked to remove ourselves from the line and wait outside because only 10 people max. Is what the women behind the counter shouted. I was like oh darn sorry I wasn't paying attention . Then looked around and noticed that even if my husband and I removed ourselves there would still be 13 people in there. Food quality & quantity has changed to worst. Like the Progressive Insurance commercial.. I don't need know about the budget cuts and asking for fresh cooked batch when the golf ball size left in the pan needs the approval of the manager. This panda express location was one of the best I've visited in Oahu. My family was very hungry and this place hit the spot. Very reasonable prices and the food came out piping hot and vegetables were crunchy and fresh. The Kung pow chicken was awesome and the kids couldn't get enough of the orange chicken. The other reviewers were right - the staff is super friendly and heavy handed with the portions ! I personally dont crave chinese too often but do LOVE chow funn and am so glad to find one I like almost as much as the old Maple Gardens Shanghai noodles .... anyway my son is a orange chix fan and we also like the eggplant with tofu - the orange chix is always being made fresh while we wait because everyone before us orders double. Let me tell you a funny story about this place. My inlaws came into town and we went to PE and got food and sat by the marina. Well, then who comes out of PE next but this guy my hubby went to high school in San Diego with and his mom, who is friends with my MIL. Turns out the guy lives in Hawaii Kai too. So weird! Anyway, this is one of our favorite family places to eat. It's cheap, it's good, and you can eat by the water. The only bad thing that happened is once about a month ago, we were getting a family meal and they had run out of most of their food. They packed part of our order and let it get cold while they cooked the rest. That was a little icky. But, the other gazillion times we've been here, it's been swell. The kids always get orange chicken and I usually get a mushroom chicken and vary the other dishes. On my most recent visit I thought I'd give them a second chance after not eating here for a few years. Ordered orange chicken and kung pao chicken. They gave me orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. (Was ordering multiple plates, so gave my choices but didn't actively watch all plates getting filled.) At the register double check, told them it was wrong so they sent it back to be replaced. Despite having a bad dining experience at the Panda Express located at the Don Quixote store in Waipahu that had no Chinese wait staff and only had a few choices that tasted like it was warmed up leftovers,I stayed away from Panda Express for years.Out of curiosity I checked out the Hawai'i Kai location and noticed right away they had all Chinese wait staff and a had a wide selection on display and had a small description posted describing the dishes.They even let you sample the dishes if you want to.The steamed fish caught my eye and I made sure the next time that I here I will order the steamed fish. On my next visit here on my way to the steamed fish I was offered without asking to sample all the dishes before the steamed fish that I thought was mind blowing.When I ordered the steamed fish the price was higher then the other dishes because it was a house special.I didn't mind because of the free samples.I make steamed fish at home but this tasted way better then I could make.When I order steamed fish at any location I make sure that they have steamed fish available.If not I go someplace else to eat. read more

We come here because it is convenient and usually has parking. Sometimes it gets busy, but overall, they are usually fast enough and keep the restaurant clean. Once in a while, they do get low on food but are quick to make more. The food to me tastes like any other Panda Express. You get what you expect to get. I usually get orange chicken or the chicken with string beans and chow fun or fried rice. They're friendly enough and don't skimp on the servings. When the line dies down, the workers are more proactive and find things that they can do in the meantime, like clean the tables or check the soda machine. read more

Gave us the completely wrong entree. Not even sure how they messed it up. Had to go back and wait in line a second time to get the entree I actually wanted. Ended up spending an extra $ to get the entree ala carte because we didn't want to make a scene because there was a LONG line. My plate was cold by the time I got back to it. Really unsatisfied. This is only one of a handful of take out choices in the Hawaii Kai area. Stopped by at about 4:00 pm today since I didnt feel like cooking, I decided on Panda. Upon entering the store, there was not one person standing behind the counter and when I approached the front, a server quickly slipped up from the side. I immediately noticed that most of the serving pans were empty or near empty. I ordered 3 plates to go and selected what items were available which were the ones that was another $1.50 in addition. Each time I selected one of these dishes, the server would remind me "this is $1.50 more". On the 3rd time, I finally repeated it to her! My three plates ended up some change short of $30! I dont mind paying the price but to pick from dried out food and empty dishes is not a good experience! read more

If I could, I'd rate this review with negative stars! I've never been so irritated ordering takeout in my life! Should've followed my instincts and refrained from stepping foot into this dining facility. Once in the door, I had to wait 15 mins before I was able to place my order. After that was over and done with, I stood there for another 10 mins waiting to pay. This establishment needs to be more organized with their customer service! If more food is being made for a customer, they should keep the line moving by putting their order(s) on the side, while allowing other customers who have their complete order(s) move ahead to pay. Instead, the line is held up going out the door because, we're all at a standstill waiting on a customer whose 8+ individual side orders aren't ready yet. I'm sorry to say . . . For the 3 of you out there that have followed my reviews, you know that I enjoy me some ghetto Chinese food. Panda Express is certainly the "nicest" of the "ghetto" Chinese restaurants. Well, the 1 time wifey and I ate at this one, we came in and it was kinda slow, but there wasn't enough Beijing Beef in the metal bin for us, so they were kind enough to make a new batch. Our server was waiting for that to finish before they made our plate so that the other dishes wouldn't get cold. While we were waiting, this rather well-fed woman came in and proceeded to clean the buffet line out. She took all their fried rice and 1/2 their chow mein (lucky for us we wanted the chow funn). As she slowly walked down the counter, she got all upset that they didn't have any sweet and sour pork for her. They volunteered to make it for her right there on the spot, nice and hot and fresh, but she refused, standing there literally for over 60 seconds complaining that they never have sweet and sour pork ready for her every time she comes. So what she decides to do instead is take all their fresh Beijing Beef (which they made for us!) and clean out a few other metal tins and leave. The entire scene was so entertaining that wifey and I didn't even get upset that she took all of our Beijing Beef. They apologized and made another batch and we got our dinner. For our patience, they gave us an extra fortune cookie that was smashed to bits. The ridiculousness of it all made me chuckle. To this day, whenever we see this place, we yell out to each other, "Where's my pork?!" and die laughing. Yes, we're easily amused. I'm just gonna say it. Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of Chinese food. However, I've been to other Panda's and I'm pretty sure I know how things should taste. I ordered a plate with fried rice and chow fun, beef broccoli, Fire cracker chicken and vegetarian spring roll+sweet and sour sauce. The two starches, A-OK... the other three sides, not my favorite. The broccoli was over steamed and tasted a bit watery? I was hoping for a nice crunch from the broccoli. :( Usually one of my favorites. The spring roll was really wet and soggy, although the outside was crunchy. Disappointed there :/ lastly, the firecracker chicken wasn't anything special. It wasn't awful but it wasn't great. I'd have to say it was more on the saltier side too. Overall, not the best experience with the way the food tasted but the restaurant staff was efficient and nice. The fountain drink was refreshing!
