My family and I were on vacation and went to dinner at Pancho's, all my family got there dinner but I had not got mine, the waitress would pass by and say they were waiting for my food that it will be right out. I waited about 15 - 20 minutes before my food came out after my family's. The food was horrible, I had order the Carny Asada, my beans were very salty, there was a strange tangy flavor in my rice and my meat was so thin like a slice of deli roast beef, it was kind of white in color with black lines. I was so disappointed and I personally think they should have at least given me a discount for my food taking so much longer then my family's, and quality of food I shouldn't have been charged at all. I will NEVER go back to this place. read more

Being a food-snob, I never have high expectations but I was blown away by the quality of the food at Pancho's. The chips and salsa were fresh and homemade. Best salsa I have ever had and I travel a lot! I ordered the fish enchiladas and they were stuffed with fresh fish cooked to perfection with excellent flavors. Our server was so lovely. She was kind and accommodating with a couple of tweaks I made to my order and her energy showed that she actually cared about our experience and took pride in her profession. The decor was so beautiful and the place was spotless. We live in Seal Rock, OR 4 hours away but will definitely be back for the hiking and a visit to Pancho's! read more

It started off having to tear two of the gossiping girls away from each other to take our order. My shredded beef taco and chili relleno was good. My boyfriend's chicken chimichangas was lacking a decent amount of cheese. We ordered a strawberry margarita that tasted like a virgin strawberry daiquiri. We told the bar tender it was lacking tequila but she insisted she put half a shot in it. She made no attempt to make it taste like a real margarita so we went without. I know my tequila and there was none in it. If they are going to put half a shot of tequila in a margarita I suggest you dont order one. I hate writing negative reviews but it is what it is. read more

Nice casual dining and good Mexican food being that we are far from most National Mexicans. Americanized versions of the food, and I do believe some of them were actually pre-made frozen and heated/fried at time of service. Tasted similar to Schwan's frozen foods. I split an appetizer platter with my husband. The meat in the tiny tacos was edible but definitely not something found in most tacos (let alone mini tacos). It was more like a Taco Bell or Jack In the Box product. Not that this is entirely a BAD thing, but certainly not prepared fresh in Pancho's kitchen. The mini burritos were also exactly like those I've bought in the frozen foods section at my local store. They were zippy, but not especially authentic. I ordered a cup of albondigas soup which turned out to be a bowl (score). The difference, apparently, between a "cup" and a "bowl" is that the cup has only one meatball whereas the bowl has three. It was filling and piping hot. My only negative comment about the soup is that they chef was very heavy-handed with the cilantro. The meatball itself was tasty and as I mentioned, the soup was nice and hot. Vegetables were a tad squishy but unacceptably so. I ordered a shredded beef taco which was pretty tame. I'm not the biggest fan of spicy food but Barbie could have lived through this taco. I found myself actually looking for the hot sauce. I am from an area in California where many individuals are actually Mexican (as is my son-in-law who was with us tonight) and am used to a lot more heat in my Mexican food. For this reason (and the questionable freshness of the fried food) I knocked off a star. If it's Mexican food, I want some smoke coming out my ears when I eat a taco. If it's American Mexican food, then I'll pack my own Tapatio. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. My young granddaughters didn't have any trouble eating the food (especially because it wasn't spicy). There were some very nice things about Pancho's. The wait staff was courteous, efficient, and had a respectable sense of humor (which goes a long ways with me). They brought our basket of obligatory chips along with two bowls of salsa: one "real" salsa and one for the kids (no spice). That was a thoughtful touch. The patio was delightful and would have been my choice to utilize had it not been for the endless rain and chill (for Californians). There were cute metal cutout lizards, geckos and butterflies on the walls both inside and out. The children especially enjoyed seeing those. Our waitress rocked. Very attentive. Very kind. read more

We live out of town. First time in Brookings. Checked restaurants using Yelp as a guide. Wow. Panchos was wonderful. Very clean. Margaritas were best ever. Food was delivered promptly. Was one of the best enchiladas I ever had. Lots of meat. Asked for whole pinto beans in it. Husband had tacos. Delicious. Floor was clean along with window sills. No flies. I look this place up on yelp and decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly. As soon as we walked in we were getting and seated. All the dishes on their menu looked delicious so we had a hard time deciding which was a good thing. My son ordered a plain hamburger and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. He said he has never tried such a good hamburger at a Mexican restaurant. As for my daughter she tried the camarones a la diabla. They met her expectations which means it was spicy so if your into hot stuff you might want to try this. As for myself I had the prawn and bacon and it was so flavorful! The plate just looked delicious before even trying it! What held me back from giving them 5 stars was the salsa.... I love my salsa and chips and this salsa just didn't do it. Ah, another restaurant that was not around when I grew up here. If I would have choices like this (and delicious margaritas) I would have turned out to be a different person. Ok, I'm pretty decent now, but the enchelatas and margaritas kept me wanting more! Now, this review is written from the view that Brookings doesn't have very many good restaurants. So, if you compare this to the Mexican cuisine in a big city, you may be giving a 2 or 3 star rating. No particular seasoning to the meat, although it was thin and cooked perfectly, not hard to cut as I've seen it elsewhere. And served with a nice garnish of tomato slices, onion slices and avocado slices. So it was good but not the best I've had. Flour tortillas were very warm and tasted authentic. Hubby had camarones con tequila, shrimp in pineapple and tequila, and he really liked it. A lot. Kind of sweet, and he usually likes spicy foods, but he loved the combination and the fact that you could taste the shrimp. Not impressed with the salsa, although they brag about it being for sale at the restaurant and local stores. Seemed blended - no chunks of anything - and a little sweet, definitely not spicy (and I don't like spicy at all, but I thought it was pretty bland). We went on Valentine's Day and the place was crowded and obviously filled with locals (groups, kids, etc.) - lots of people talked to each other from different tables, many speaking Spanish. On a cross country road trip with my new wife and we love great Mexican food! Panchos was above good, it was delicious! From the moment we walked in, we knew it was going to be a great time!! My accountant showed me my stack of Panchos receipts and frankly, I'm not even sorry. The lunch menu can't be beat for taste and value. The salsa is the best in town. Good food. I love the chimichanga and fish tacos here. Also, be sure to ask for some pico de gallo with your chips when starting out. It is SOO DELICIOUS! The dining room is very informal without an option for booths, so I wouldn't plan a romantic dinner at this restaurant. Friday nights can be filled with families with young kids, and the noise level can get out of hand. Sometimes the drinks are on the weak side. I've had to send drinks back on several occasions because they tasted like they had much less than the normal amount of alcohol in them. We our locals so we are constantly finding ourselves weighing the taste of the food (which is delicious) vs. the atmosphere (which is non-existent). read more

I haven't been to a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants to compare to, but the food here was very enjoyable! The service was wonderful! You got chips and salsa to hold you over, which I almost filled up on! I got 2 tacos which came with beans and rice. I got 1 taco with shredded beef and the second with pork, and they both had cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. They were delicious....I enjoyed the shredded beef the most, but I would get the pork again as well! The beans didn't look pretty, but they were sure tasty! The rice was a little bland, but still yummy. The rice being bland actually didn't bother me because I most combined it with my beans when I ate it. I would go back if I am every out this way again! read more

The food was out extremely fast and the dining area was pleasantly decorated. The noise from the bar area was a bit loud but quieted as some members left. Just had lunch at Pancho's again and again, the food was great. The wife likes the veggie burrito, which is filled with mushrooms, rice and lots of veggies, of course. After being told by the owner of La Flor de Mexico we can't park our 26' motor home in her parking lot. I said thank you and drove north to Pancho's Lucky for us good parking and good Mexican food Came in to Panchos and was greeted by a very nice young lady. She then showed us to our table. Went to Pancho's for the first time Friday 6/23/17, on recommendations of locals. Probably for the last time as well. Again, this was a Friday night, but the staffing seemed unprepared for even a slow night. Poor service is the main reason for a 2 star ranking. My party of two ended up joining three other couples, as we discovered we were camped at the same park. Received the impression the management and staff were unhappy that we didn't call ahead for reservations. Foods were prepared in an adequate, but unremarkable style, however several repeated requests for something in particular, went unheeded. Not really working in your favor when someone requests whole beans instead of refried, then when your plate is presented with refried, you merely take the refried beans off and return the remainder to the table. Then take 10 minutes and 2 more requests for the whole beans! And as another review stated, if you don't remember the chips and salsa, (when they did furnish) it's just not an experience you'll want to repeat anytime soon. read more

8-31-14 I travel a lot looking for the different variations of Classic Mexican food We stopped by Panchos seeking a fresh well cooked meal. I ordered the prawns and scallops over rice and my wife had the combo beef enchilada and chili rellano My prawns and scallops were cooked perfectly and the quality of the ingredients was outstanding. Everything FRESH MADE. Tortillas, chips, salsa all home made and very good. My wife's food was very flavorful and a perfectly cooked. chili rellano , nice a crispy on the outside and loaded with cheese on the inside. Enchilada was loaded with beef and basted in a great sauce. Beans are homemade NOT CANNED and very flavorful. A lot of hard work goes into the preparation of the food and it is all served by a very pleasant wait staff. The fried ice cream was the crowning glory to top off this very pleasant experience. Very reasonably priced Portion size was more than I needed We will defanantly be coming back soon. read more

We went to Poncho's last evening. My husband & I had been there a few years ago & werent thrilled that our friends had chozen this restaurant. HOWEVER we were in for a wonderful treat. The menu had the regular Mexican cuisine choices along with some specialties. My husband opted for a combo plate which he rated 4 out of 5. Three of us had the Shrimp Lover's burrito and rated it 5 out of 5. It was very busy...to the hectic point, but our waitress, Cathy was attentive and explained that 2 large groups had changed seating arrangements twice. Even with the confusion, our food arrived within a decent time. Thanks to the good taste and quality of our food and our friendly waitress, we had a lovely evening and will definately return. read more

I have been craving Mexican food lately, especially taco truck tacos. We stopped in for a quick lunch on Thursday, I had the fish tacos, grilled to perfection white fish, lots of fresh lettuce and tomatoes and an excellent Mexican ranch dressing. Yum! Ex BF had their new green pork salad loaded with flavorful pork, fresh vegs, and real pieces of avocado. Their salsa is warm and fresh and home made. Victor our server who is also the manager brought mild salsa for the toddler with out us asking, cool to have the little one get her own salsa. Good grill cheese sandwich and they let us substitute Mexican rice for the french fries. They have a good variety on their lunch menu with items under $5. read more
