Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly... I thank you for tolerating my mediocre sarcasm! You were AWESOME I've been coming to Pacific Sushi in Brookings for many years now and it never disappoints. Not only is it the best Sushi restaurant on the Northern California, Southern Oregon coast, it's the best restaurant, PERIOD! A Saturday night on a holiday weekend and there was a line, but LUCKY for me there was an opening at the Sushi Bar (Kelly reference). I sat down and order the house hot Saki and some edamame. Just the salted this time not the incredibly delicious Spicy Edamame. I'm like a broken record here and almost always order the same thing when I come. For the nigiri I had some ebi, hamachi and maguru. All fresh, all tasty, all perfect! I also appreciate the size and would call it my favorite. Comfortable but nice sized one-bite pieces. This is where I lost my mind. I don't believe I have been here without ordering the Redwood Roll, yet somehow out of my mouth came Rainbow Roll ‍ I forgot how good it was, and turned out to be pleasantly surprised. Kelly said she would try to read my mind next time so I wouldn't make the mistake. Coming here with my now twenty something kids and my awesome EX, has allowed me to take pretty much everything on the menu, and I promise, you will NEVER be disappointed. Right on the main drag in downtown Brookings, It has an undeniable charm on the outside but once inside, you're enveloped by the warmth of the dark wood and the "not bright" lighting that sets an immediate mood. The main dining room is cozy and the bar area even homier. And yes you can gamble if you want to. On a side note the bar and the drinks that flow out of it are divine! Their creativity shines here as well. The service is always exceptional, and tonight was no exception! If I say any more, Kelly will think I have a crush (maybe? ) Thank you very much for making my 5 Star meal just that much more enjoyable. Sweet little get-away with my guy landed us here. The udon with tofu was phenomenal. Perfectly sized tofu cuts, well done. 5 stars. Noodles not overcooked, and great sauce. He enjoyed the Redwood and Rogue rolls. Next time I *won't* order the Nature Nugget roll (which is listed with different ingredients on their website than their in-restaurant menu). It tasted like Lysol, presumably from the citrus ponzu? That was a tough swallow. I'd still return for that tofu, though. We parked right in front, walked in, and immediately liked the vibe. The restaurant felt comfortable, relaxed, and inviting. We chose to sit at the sushi bar, which was a great decision. I ordered a spicy roll, an Nami roll, and a scallop roll, and Ray had a spicy tuna roll along with a few other items. Everything was wonderful--fresh, flavorful, and very well done. The quality of the sushi really stood out. If we lived anywhere near Brookings, this would absolutely be a go-to spot for us. Great sushi, great atmosphere, and a place we'd happily return to. There aren't a ton of more upscale restaurants in Brookings so we were glad to find Pacific Sushi for a date night. The restaurant is small but gorgeous and the staff was very friendly. My wife ordered the Agedashi Tofu & Pork Gyozas and I had a couple of rolls, the spicy Rouge and a plain Jane salmon, avocado and cucumber roll. Everything was fantastic. The fish was super fresh, the tofu cooked perfectly and the gyoza sauce tangy and yummy. We only had a couple of small issues, more personal preferences really. 1 - my wife enjoyed the tofu, but the dish is described as having an agedashi broth but really it was more of a thicker style sauce smeared on the plate the tofu was placed on. It didn't really have a true broth. 2 - the habanero marmalade was not spicy. The roll was described as a spicy roll, but the marmalade was sweet. Unfortunately, the jalapeños were sweet as well. I know they can't control capsaicin in peppers, but that marmalade needs way more habanero. It would be WONDRFUL on toast though! Note: looking at their menu now they have updated this roll to replace the marmalade with a "tangy sesame". I look forward to trying this to see the difference. Slightly expensive but it says they use real crab so that makes sense if most places use imitation. We stopped by pacific sushi on the way down the coast to California. They had a lot of different options and I liked their lunch specials. We each got a lunch special and then a couple extra rolls. You have a choice of soup or salad with your lunch and I enjoyed that it was different than your standard carrot ginger dressing. The noise level was very high, and there was also background music, making for a very unrelaxed experience. Service was great. Despite it being so crowded, our order was taken quickly, and we got our food in less than 15 minutes after ordering. I had Ramen with organic tofu, spicy, and my husband had Stir Fry Udon, also with organic tofu. We forgot to ask about the tofu, as we prefer it soft, but it was fried tofu (don't know if we can ask for soft). The Ramen was good, but the broth did not have flavors we had at "Ramen" restaurants in the past. My husband felt the broccoli in the Stir Fry Udon was a bit over-cooked for his tastes, but the other veggies were good, and the noodles were excellent. It all came in a lot of sauce, which was overly sweet and pretty salty. Overall, I'd like to give 3.5*, but Yelp doesn't allow it. read more
