Absolutely the worst Mexican food I have ever had. DISGUSTING! After eating, I was very concerned about getting food poisoning. Luckily, that didn't happen. First time here, trying new (to us) places in Brookings. Came in on Sunday 3-1-26 for lunch. Only one server so service was slow with the 6 tables occupied. Three in our party. I ordered the pork burrito with rice and beans, the other two people in our party ordered the chicken burrito with rice and beans. Also ordered two iced teas. Water was complimentary. 1. Ice tea tasted like it had sat out on the counter for days. It had a moldy taste. We took one sip and that was enough. 2. The lettuce on the plates also tasted moldy. It had been cooked and was translucent. 3. All of our meals were drowning in red or green sauce. The burritos were filled with just meat and an over abundance of sauce. Meat was OK but had minimal flavor. 4. Refried beans were over cooked and runny. 5. Service was slow and not that good but I also understand that there was only one person doing the work. 6. Bench seat was so worn out that I had to sit in the middle so as not to sink to the floor. The only positives were the chips, salsa, and water. Never got offered refills on the water even though all three of our glasses were empty. We simply could not stomach the disgusting iced tea. WOULD NEVER GO BACK. This is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever been served. It was disgusting. read more

It's been our go to restaurant for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. Consistently amazing food every time. The service is fast and friendly. They make you feel like you're part of the family. Flora is the nicest person I've ever met and she can take the entire group's orders without even writing it down. The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing with a beautiful Mexican theme. I've never had a bad meal there and if you like margaritas with a boost, try the Cadillac Margarita. The bench I sat on felt like I was on the floor, making the table about shoulder height. 2. I asked for no rice; here comes rice. 3. Food was typical, not great. 4. Watery "lemonade" was $3! 5. Chips were cheap. Salsa was decent. 6. My friend ordered an $18 salad and was charged $20.60, with a lame explanation of how expensive beef is nowadays. It was clear all the customers were annoyed but staff did nothing about it. Super disrespectful to all other customers. When you walk in... it's like walking into a little shop in Mexico. Super colorful and fun. Very authentic. Service was fast a friendly. We were seated in a booth and served water, chips and salsa right away. Chips were hot and fresh. Salsa was a little on the mild side but still tasted great. Checked out the menu and ordered. I believe it was less than 10 min when our meal was served. Again, fast service. The food was really good. Flavorful and fresh. The corn tortillas however were A-mazing!!! I asked if they were homemade corn tortillas and the owner said, "yes, she makes them all by hand." Light and fluffy and had a unique flavor. I'm used of the store bought ones that usually fall apart when you fold them and taste bland. I LOVE homemade corn tortillas now!!! Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of them. Ughh.... The personnel seemed nice, but the margaritas we ordered were tasteless and the salsa had an odd flavor to it, like maybe someone had put paint thinner in it. We paid for the two drinks we ordered ($20) and we left without ordering food. Also, I think maybe some springs in seat of the booth I sat in were broken because it was very lumpy. I took yelpers advice and took a pic of my receipt and the signed credit card slip *so glad I did* My card was charged twice the amount (tip included). Yeah, no. I work hard for my money and I tipped generously despite the poor food quality. NEVER AGAIN. Instead: Go to the place 1/2 mile up the road on the right hand side ... Much Better food (both quality and flavor), excellent service, never a problem at the register. I'm sad bc this place is obviously family run, chubby little cutie on roller skates in the main dining area makes my want to love this place. They have room for improvement. We have patronized this establishment before with friends. I didn't look at the receipt that time. We went last night, to celebrate our anniversary. The food was mediocre, service okay, the furniture needs to be recushioned and the cleaning supplies in view of the whole dining room is very unappealing. When the bill came, I was shocked! On the bottom it said 3% was added into the bill if we paid with a CC. We normally pay with our CC but I asked my husband if we had enough to pay cash. I went up to pay in cash and said what was going on with the extra charge for the food. The menu says $20.00 and you are charging $25.75 for my husband's meal. "Beef is so expensive now" WOW!! The decor was outdated and there was an area that appeared to be a storage space with all kinds of items that was clearly visible to diners. An atmosphere of clutter. The seating had the table up to my chest. My steak salad was good enough, but the menu gave a price of $18. I was charged $20.60 with no explanation until I asked. I was told it was in their computer that way due to rising costs and the wait person couldn't do anything about it. The overall feeling is nobody cares. AVOID. Total disaster.Nobody in the dine-in on a friday night. Stale cold Chips and store bought mild salsa. Actually store bought would have been more tasty. This was like the generic off brand canned salsa. We ordered two dinner combination plates and they brought them out to us almost immediately. Red flag. Straight up felt like i was on an episode of RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE. My refried beans were old stone cold pale in color and RUNNY like oatmeal. Probably sitting for days. disgusting! The Spanish rice was stale old and tasted like it had been reheated or burnt. The tacos were super thick shell barely any flavor like reheated meat. The enchilada was the hottest temperature item on the plate. But was unamazing. I honestly gave this place a try and feel queasy. Like im praying i dont get sick. Tamales and enchiladas are very good and so are shrimp tacos. Black beans and cilantro rice aren't available which brings the rating down. Also keep in mind that the prices are mostly 30% higher than what shows here on Yelp. Way past due for updated menu and listed prices. We know the prices now but would still return. I have only tried this restaurant once. I failed to order the exact preferences I usually do when ordering Mexican cuisine but it was pretty good. The take out service was very pleasant and fast but the restaurant was pretty empty. From my experience of other Mexican restaurants the portions were a bit small for the price. For the amount of money I spent I normally get 50% more food but I have noticed that in the Brookings area the prices run a bit higher than say Central California. I would give this restaurant another chance and possibly if I order exactly as I normally do maybe the portions will improve. read more

The BEST Tacos I have ever had! My wife and I have eaten at this restaurant since 2005, whenever we visit Brookings OR from our home in San Diego County CA. There are LOTS of excellent Mexican food restaurants close to where we live, but out of all those places nearby, and lots of other places I have tried in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and even Mexico itself, during my seven decades of eating Mexican food, I can say confidently that the BEST Tacos I have ever had are to be found at La Flor De Mexico in Brookings OR. The exceptional flavor of the beef and the consistency of the shell - almost like a fine pastry - set them apart and above all of the rest. We remembered this place from 17 years ago and came back in the hopes it was as great as we remembered. We weren't disappointed and the only reason I didn't give them a 4.5 or 5 was the margaritas. The recap: - Chicken fajitas awesome and the corn tortillas were excellent! Highly recommend. - Chips came out hot which I love, and the salsa was delish. The chips are not phenomenal but the fact that they are warm was great. - The Dos Chiles was also really great and the portions are legit. For both the fajitas and chiles we had enough to take home for a full second meal. - The only downside was the margaritas. I'd recommend just getting tequila on the rocks. We tried the cadillac and the ultimate and they tasted too much like they were made from a premade mix. Not great. Not awful but just not amazing. This is clearly a family owned business and we love supporting that. They were a bit shorthanded but EVERYONE is right now and I don't mind bringing a little extra patience when we go out to dinner. When they came to our table to help us the owner was lovely, kind and helpful. They never made you feel how busy they truly were which is impressive. read more

Second bad experience here. We ate at La Flor de Mexico about 4 years ago and were not impressed with the service or food but decided to give it another try today since our favorite, Pancho's, is temporarily closed on Sunday due to staff shortages. What a disappointment! We should have stayed home and had canned soup or something equally as exciting. The first thing we saw after being seated for lunch was a note taped to the top of the menus, saying that a $2 would be added to EACH ITEM on the menu due to the pandemic. Well, that's a first, but we decided to stay anyway (big mistake), even though Lunch Specials were considerably higher than Pancho's even before the additional $2. The waitress brought chips and salsa, and I have to say they were not good. Chips were plain and tasteless, and salsa was runny and tasteless as well. When the waitress returned, we ordered the Lunch Specials #1 and #3, pointing to them on the menu (which said $8 each, so $10 each with the added $2 pandemic charges). The food was just okay--runny beans, very little meat in the tacos, tiny enchilada, etc.; didn't hold a candle to Pancho's which, by the way, charges $7 for their lunch specials, including weekends. When the bill came and showed $13.25 for each lunch, we pointed out the discrepancy to the waitress, who snapped at us, "NO LUNCH SPECIALS ON SUNDAY!" Can you believe that? Might she have told us that when we place the order???? Needless to say, I paid the bill but left ZERO tip. We will starve or eat dirt before ever even considering returning to this nasty place! read more
