We discovered this place fairly early Sunday morning. It's certainly nothing special from the outside, but the food is wonderful. We were seated right away and given water and the menu. I ordered the combo with one egg, hash browns and 2 slices of bacon. On the rare occasion that I have hash browns, I'm usually disappointed. Here I asked for them to be extra crispy and that's how they were served. Outstanding! My husband had two eggs, sausage and a waffle. I love pancake houses, but I am not sure why this place is so popular. My ideal image is a friendly place with a decent cup of coffee and good food at a good price. Our server was so rude. The coffee was water with a hint of coffee and impossible to get a refill (you need a lot to equal a cup). The food was average and took an long time to arrive. The place is dirty and falling apart. Their hashbrown is also the best I've had. You have to understand that it's a family-run resturant, not a fast food place. Have you ever walked into a restaurant, looked around and suddenly had an uneasy feeling because you're the youngest in the room by at least 30 years? Yep, that's exactly what I felt like going to the Pancake Haus. I really should have taken that as an omen of what was to come. The food is pretty blah. My husband ordered hashbrowns and a swiss omlet and I ordered the pineapple stuffed pancakes. Both were a huge disappointment. The hashbrowns were flavorless and tasted like they came out of a package. The omlet was also without seasoning. Just a big lump of egg. The pineapple "stuffed" pancakes were just as pointless. Nothing about the pancakes were "stuffed", just some canned pineapple thrown into the batter. They also put on a mondo heap of whipcream on the top of the pancakes, which completely smothered them and created a flavorless heap of sugar. I really wasn't expecting a gourmet breakfast, but this was way worse than I thought it would be. Even Denny's gets it better than this, and that's saying a lot of Denny's. I'd also like to point out that it annoys me when restaurants don't take the time to clean food crap off their walls. So every time I come here I automatically want to order the Strawberry Crepes. I like strawberries, I dig whipped cream, and am partial to anything involving flour and butter. Their crepes are amazing and I love that I can order just one, or three, if I please. I also seem to order their hashbrowns every time I go as well (I never claimed I ate healthy here), and I now always ask for them to be extra crispy and the staff never give me attitude for it. (At least to my face) I've tried other items before, like the blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup (pancake was awesome, blueberry syrup notsomuch), also had the regular pancakes with pineapple syrup (umm, yeah stick with their regular maple, mmmkay?) Waffles were tasty!! Coffee is always decent and my cup never seems to get empty before they fill it up again. A few downfalls on the Haus is the long, narrow waiting area when you enter (kinda like the line at the DMV, no one is happy and you never seem to get noticed), and how traffic can be a pain on a weekend morning in Edmonds... But this is definitely my go-to place for Breakfasty goodness, a good meal after scuba diving at the Park, or awesome hangover food. Take your pick. read more

Good place to bring kids or the grandparents, the restaurant seems to have been here awhile and its customers adept to the noisy ambience, kids running around with bike helmets on (adorbs), plain tables and floors, and service from high schoolers earning their first pay checks. The pancake selection is infinite, food is decent, and there is plenty of free parking in their own lot. The local art for sale in the waiting hall is a nice touch. read more

The Pancake Haus has been serving it up for 30 years and it shows. 1970's retro German design with a Dennys feel. Expect long waits for a table and longer waits to get your food. Service is friendly but they tend to forget you once you have ordered. Prices are on the average side and so is the food. This really is a local hang out and if your a local and come here often your going to get good service otherwise its hit and miss. DJY is right the coffee sucks but the good thing is they only filled it once so I was spared having to drink more of it. read more

From the moment I entered the place, I could tell I was only marginally acceptable to dine with the cultural luminaries of Edmonds. I am about as middle class average as it gets and yet I was nearly convinced I had just robbed a liquor store. I noted they had a German pancake, which done correctly, is delectable. They look and taste a bit like a fallen souffle and are served with butter, fruit compote, syrup, etc. I realized too late I had ordered wrong when I looked back toward the kitchen and saw the chef de cuisine physically and verbally groan when he saw the ticket. In a desperate attempt to save myself from what was clearly going to be a half assed pancake, I politely called the waiter over to order some meat on the side. Just in case. I asked for 1 link sausage and 1 patty sausage. He expressed it was somewhat off menu, but he could do it. Things were looking up. For the record, I entered the Pancake Haus in a state of utter starvation after a night of alcohol and cannabis fueled debauchery. The meal would have to consist of the south end of a north bound horse to keep me from eating it. On arrival, the pancake looked somewhat like a German pancake but was way overcooked. Dark brown even. Clearly he went long on time to ensure the center cooked completely, sacrificing the edges. Big mistake mein freund. The meat was of good quality, although the patty sausage was also overcooked. Burned even. The link was excellent however and I give full credit for its preparation. Finally things settled, I had reached a state of satiety, and thoughts of an afternoon nap entered my mind. Casually examining the ticket, I realized I was charged $3.99 for a single patty of sausage. The burned, single patty of sausage. The sum total of a pancake and two pieces of pork totaled over 15 bucks. Another polite inquiry to the wait staff revealed I had been given the "large" patty of sausage. Sadly I had no comparative sausage available, but the sausage I was served was no bigger round than a can of coke. Pretty standard size in my experience. Alas my inquiry only resulted in more trite, artificially apologetic statements from the staff so I stiffed them on the tip in revenge. Three words come to mind after eating here, heat and serve. Now I should have heeded the words of others on here who said that this was very bland, generic, prepackaged styled food, but, I felt that as an American I can form my opinion. I felt at the very least they had to be better than Denny's right? Wrong! You can't fault Denny's for their clay pigeon stylized pancakes that may chip your teeth, at least they have flavor and it's an amazing treat when they are actually cooked correctly. The pancakes from the aptly named Pancake Haus go down like a medical exam glove only with a less pleasing taste. My eggs ordered Over-hard where cooked to pretty much the same level as my friend's egg's cooked Over-medium, this was a first for me. I don't like feeling like my baby chickens are going to make a run from my plate before I get around to eating them. They had an interesting menu; they had the option of ordering fifteen silver dollar pancakes. What they failed to mention though, was they also had silver dollar sausage patties priced at only $2.59 each. Now, you can almost buy a roll of Jimmy Dean sausage at that price, and have 10-12 good sized patties, or make upwards of 20 silver dollar sized ones. Went to Pancake Haus for a pre-Valentines Day carb fest on a day off. After reading through some reviews on Yelp, decided to dive in with my wife. Arrived to a subdued and sparsely populated dining room (score I don't need the crowds). Seated ourselves per sign We were greeted by one of the waiters within 1 minute asking if we needed anything to drink (aka coffee) and handing us our menus. My wife ordered coffee, I shied from the coffee as I don't trust diner coffee (Burnt Farmer's Brother is never on the menu for me). I ordered 3 pancakes and scrambled eggs w/ minced ham. My wife ordered 4 pancakes, OE eggs and 4 slices bacon. Changed my tune on the coffee after tasting my wife's coffee and ordered my own. Score another one here -- They brew their (cheap) coffee right. Received our meals within 6 minutes after ordering. * Eggs cooked perfectly * Pancakes light, fluffy and delicious * Bacon cooked to perfection (my wife even split the bacon with me) Mission accomplished...delicious food delivered fast and everything for $21 out the door. Back in the day (20 or so years ago), when there was a Pancake Haus up by Northgate, my then-beau and I were frequent visitors. So, when life found me in Edmonds and needing breakfast one recent day, I got all nostalgic and decided to eat at the Pancake Haus there. Sadly, it was not quite the sentimental trip down memory lane I had sought. We arrived to find a bit of a line. But, that is to be expected at a breakfast place at 10:30 AM on a Saturday. We waited about 15 minutes or so and were led to a cozy booth. A bit too cozy, actually. It was tight for me, and my husband, who has a bit more heft on him, was downright uncomfortable. We asked to be moved and this request was immediately accommodated. The hostess said, "I keep forgetting how cramped that booth is." And, then, quickly (and diplomatically) added, "And that has nothing to do with you; it is the booth." We were re-seated in another booth that offered a lot more space and we began the task of perusing the menu. A very friendly waitress came over and took our order. Drinks were quickly brought. And we began the task of waiting for our food. And we waited. And we waited. And we waited some more. I honestly don't know exactly how long we waited, but I do know another couple came and were seated at the booth we had abandoned. They ordered, were served, and had finished their meals before ours were even brought out. (Perhaps due to the uncomfortableness of that booth, they make it a point to make sure people seated there get fed quickly, so they can depart before pancake belly sets in.) Our food was finally served. An acknowledgment that we had been waiting a while would have been nice, but was not to be had. Food was only ok. I ordered the bacon pancakes, which was my mainstay back in the Northgate days, and they were fine, if nothing outstanding. Accompanying eggs over easy were completely uninspired. Husband had a bacon and cheese omelet with hash browns and reported it "filled a hole." All in all, a very mixed, but mostly meh, experience. I always love a good stack o' pancakes. I'm a huge fan of sourdough pancakes and so far, the best are at the Original Pancake House in Ballard. I figured that I'd enjoy this place because they also served sourdough pancakes. I was also delighted to see corn cakes and buckwheat pancakes; both are also faves of mine. I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like anything in her pancakes nor on top of them except a bit o' butter. Yah, no syrup or fruit here; I love the simple goodness of a wonderful hot and delicious pancake. There was a small wait when we arrived, but not too bad. It looks like they had just cleared a lot of tables and were cleaning them up to make room for the new customers. The hostess didn't seem happy to be there. I almost prefer that over the ZOMG CHEERFUL CHATTY type hostess. *chuckle* Even with a big line, we were taken to a four top when there were 2 top tables free. It looked like there was just one waiter, a busser and a bunch of other helpful people pouring coffee and water to help him out. Since he seemed to be waiting on tons of folks, I thought the seating was odd. Maybe there was another wait person we didn't see. At any rate, we were served coffee that was pretty standard and cheap stuff. It's got caffeine and was hot, so I don't mind. About the same as you'd expect from Denny's/IHOP. The menu was quite large and had a good variety of standard, but not exciting breakfast foods. I was also happy to see cream-of-wheat on the menu; I dig that stuff. I ordered the half-stack of sourdough with a side of patty sausage. Sweetie ordered a full stack of sourdough. The pancakes were slightly done more than I like, but if the flavor was there, I wasn't going to complain. Sadly, it wasn't. There was only the *tiniest* hint of sourdough anywhere in these cakes. I was a very sad panda as I had been drooling at the thought of proper sourdough cakes. The sausage patty was quite large, but it was entirely too greasy. It wasn't really all that hot, either. I really wanted to take a paper towel to the damn thing. It did have some flavor to it, though, so it wasn't a total loss. Still, it was too greasy to finish. We received our bill promptly, which is always a good thing for me in a diner type atmosphere. We went up to pay as the front desk; the not-happy hostess was checking us out. I felt bad that she looked so miserable. I think I'd rather take the long drive down to Beth's or Original Pancake House before eating here again. I believe I have officially found my new favorite breakfast spot. What everyone else has said about this place is true, it's just damn good, tasty delicious food. Walking in the front door you automatically get that warm feeling in your tummy when the fabulous aroma hits you right in the face. The decor is simple but has a homely feeling to it. One thing I noticed is after about 10am the place gets pretty packed and a line starts to form to be seated. So make sure you arrive early to avoid the rush. The menu offers tons of tasty options to satisfy your taste buds from different types of breakfast items like crepes, pancakes, waffles, omelets and many others for reasonable prices. They also do lunch which I have yet to try. I had a hard time deciding what to choose because everything sounded so good. I went with a stack of three bacon pancakes and ordered a side of hash browns, eggs and sausage. The pancakes were filled with delicious chunks of bacon, I would defiantly order it again. My wife ordered the apple crepes which were huge and took up the entire plate. The apples they put on top were almost like an apple pie filling and were absolutely delicious. I felt like I was in Leavenworth when I walked in. The atmosphere was inviting and the servers were very friendly and helpful. We custom ordered the eggs Benedict to have the Dungeness crab instead of the traditional Canadian bacon. No complaints from the server. They turned out awesome! Fully owned and operated. Seat yourself kind of place. Very homey. Brandon was our server, very nice, and accommodated to our rushed needs. My ol lady came to this place when she was a sprite back in the eighties when the was a pancake haus in the gate of nord. I'm all about breakfast, so we made the trek to edmonds to eat here. The pancake selection is expansive!! Service: super quick and very friendly...made me feel like i was part of the pancake haus family. My ol lady ordered an omlette. She said it was cooked perfect and tasted delicious. I ordered the bacon and eggs w a coconut pancake on the side. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon was crisy. I should begin this by clarifying that I am not a huge pancake person... but with a menu like that of the Haus, you don't get a choice. From tradtional to sourdough the pancakes run the gammut. There are even a fair number of filled and speciality pancakes. The coffee is refilled, the waitstaff is filled with teenagers making money over the weekends, and the menu is filled with options. But really you wouldn't go wrong just opting for the pancakes. All this with the small town charm which defines Edmonds, and a resaonable price... and I am a happy customer. On a side note there are banners for a Toastmasters group that meets there so if you are in Edmonds and looking for a way to become involved in public speaking this might be a good way to start that... and have the pancakes I dream about. read more

Huh. I was expecting a good breakfast based on all the great reviews, but my experience here was not so great. Nothing was terribly wrong; everyone was very friendly and service was cheerful and attentive. But the space itself was old and kind of scungy, and it was FREEZING cold in there...maybe due to the old single-pane windows. Not a place to come on a typical rainy, damp day. I had the potato pancakes and was thoroughly underwhelmed--bland and gummy. The link sausage was standard-issue, nothing special. And the coffee was terrible. I'm not a coffee snob by any means, but this was basically just hot brown water. I could probably be persuaded to return and try something else.. maybe crepes or regular pancakes.. but more than likely I'll skip this place in the future. read more

My daughter and I enjoyed a quiet Saturday morning breakfast. There were plenty of tables and booths open for social distancing. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered an omelette and it came with biscuits and gravy. For some reason biscuits and gravy seems to be a really hard dish to make at the majority of local restaurants with the biscuits being rock hard or the gravy being pre-made and flavorless but not this place. The gravy was great and came with soft fluffy biscuits. The portion was large enough for a doggie bag and breakfast the next morning. I would highly recommend Pancake Haus! read more

Pretty solid breakfast offering, consider this more a 3-1/2 star review. It is a touch on the pricy side, but not outrageous. Two things that really stand out. If this place was as good at refilling your coffee when you've only had a few sips as they are at bringing your food in a timely manner I would have given four stars. The food is okay. It isn't especially good or bad. It isn't good enough to go out of your way to get. Breakfast food can pretty easily be great. It just needs to be fresh. My cinnamon roll seemed like it was sitting for a while when I received it. My eggs weren't really warm. My biggest complaint was the time though. 30 minutes from the time I ordered until I got my food. That's too long anywhere, but especially for a breakfast order. Came here on a busy Sunday but I expected it would be. Very awkward entrance and you wait for your table in a long hallway...alright. Service was not top notch and I didn't really expect it to be but a small smile would have been awesome. I am sorry it's busy and you may hate your job, but smile and pretend would ya? Food was okay. OJ was just normal processed off the truck stuff. I had the chocolate chip pancakes, Kiddo had french toast, husband had buckwheat and potato pancakes. Side of sausage. My pancakes were good but nothing over the top, just your basic pancakes. Kid's french toast much have been good because he sucked that down fast. Husband said his pancakes were really good. All in all, I am sure I would give it another whirl but try something different.
