Pancake Haus is a locally owned place that's on par with IHOP with a unique menu that has far less items and mediocre service. I couldn't recommend it. Also, they no longer sell German pancakes or the Dutch baby, which is why we came in here. Came in with my husband and the first thing we see is this wall full of kitsch art with price tags. We wait 20 minutes to be seated and after going around the wall that separates the line from the dining area see that the place is half empty. What was the point of waiting? Saw that they kept others waiting as well while we dined when there were available tables, even little old ladies with canes. Not cool. The menu is confusing - some items are a high price like pancakes that don't come with anything else. Ended up ordering grated potato pancakes, omelette, bran muffin and French toast. My omelette didn't taste very good, just plain and some of the ingredients were thrown on top instead of cooked inside. The potato pancakes were just strange. I was expecting latkes but instead they made regular pancakes then threw in grated potato, chives, and parsley. I asked for sour cream, again, thinking I was getting latkes. I used the sour cream and it didn't help. Got OJ and it wasn't refilled. Pricey for the small serving of a large glass. The waiter we had didn't check on us once and we had to flag him down for the check. Thought it odd that most of the staff were wearing Seahawks gear while the rest were dressed in grey/black. You pay at the cash register. The cashier was really slow. Took almost ten minutes to pay for the check with just one couple ahead of us. I wanted to apologize for them to the two elderly women who had been waiting to be seated longer than we were in line to pay without anyone working them saying hi or telling them they'd be with them in a minute. They were still waiting when we left. Booths are falling apart. Carpet looks older than me. Place needs a good cleaning at a minimum. Think next time we want cheap breakfast, it's IHOP. The food is amazing, but the service is so poor. Every time we dine in, we love the food but cannot stand the disinterested staff and complete lack of personality. It's as if the staff knows the food will carry them despite the fact that no one wants to work there. The last time (and I mean last time), we tried to get take out on Labor Day. Despite the restaurant being half empty, the hostess told us they weren't doing take out due to the holiday. After she delivered the proclamation, she walked away without another word. Wort place we have been almost ever! Started with rude staff including Owner/ Manager. The atmosphere was dark and not Happy. We Observed her rudeness to fellow customers. Our waitress was un attentive, rolling eyes and complained when we corrected our orders she incorrectly brought. Next we discovered ROTTEN grapes in both fruit cups. My wife pointed out the fact to the owner and she asked my wife if "she wanted it for free.." At this point we decided to leave. When I i spoke to the Owner she defended herself with " we buy our fruit fresh daly" and when i explained again the the fruit was Rotten she would not accept that we found it in their food not knowing bout the interactive with my wife. I tried to pay for what we ate we drank but she just huffed and said no charge. If a business serves you food that is rotten with mold on it. Im not sticking around to find out if their quality control improves. I offered to pay for what we ate to that point. We went down the street and had a great meal at the Mexican place on the corner for $100. Great quality food and service. Its not about the $$ its about service and Pancake Haus is a Dump.. My son and I came in for breakfast. Even though there was plenty of available seating and tables, we still waited about 20 minutes to sit down because the hostess who was supposed to sit us down was attending to the line of paying customers with priority over us, and it didn't matter that we were there first. She made sure that every person who was paying were attended to first. No one else in the team was bothering to pay any attention to the line of people waiting to sit down. Service was absolutely terrible. It took another 20 minutes for our server to take our order, and after 40 minutes waiting, we never got our food. We also noticed that some customers who sat after us were already getting their food. My son and I walked out and went to the nearby Denny's. Without our food. I realize that it can get really busy sometimes. We just need some kind of acknowledgement or explanation that I've had to wait a long time to get seated, take our order, and get our food. A long wait in each part of this nightmare dining process. To make matters worse, customers who sat much later after us were already getting their orders. We normally come in on weekday mornings and the service is great with no wait to be seated. He came in on Boxing Day, Dec. 26th and I'm so sure it was crazy busy that I waited until the 27th, and found a minimum wait and good service. Weekdays usually have fewer staff as this is a family business and they work at the restaurant when it is most busy on weekends and at regular jobs during the week. Plus it's always been a first come, first served place. So is Denny's! If 10 people are seated before you at either place they will be served first! read more

I love this restaurant. It is a local watering hole. The owners are fantastic entrepreneurs, the staff are great, and the food is always well prepared. Everything tastes good, And the portion sizes are phenomenal. It's the kind of warm, friendly place that any local wants to go get a great breakfast at. A true iconic Edmonds establishment. I personally recommend for anyone who's going to go there, to ask for the banana walnut pancakes. They are not on the menu, but I have them custom-made every time I go, and they are amazing. The bacon is also fantastic here. Super thick, flavorful, and prepared beautifully. Not too greasy, and not burnt. Just right. But one of my favorite memories of this restaurant has to do with the owners and their merchandise: I have attached photos below of the hat that one of the owners had made for his restaurant, and as you can see, the quality and craftsmanship of the hat is really high. I work in the music business, and actually co-run a growing music festival (Monterey Cowboy Festival). As such, I can tell good merchandise when I see it. There's a lot of really crappy merchandise out there, but when I saw the Pancake Haus' hat available, I immediately bought it because I could tell the embroidery and fit were super high quality. I have a big head and wear a fitted size 8 new era. As such, this flex fit mesh hat is super high quality, breathable, and comfortable. It hasn't lost it's shape, it has not been stretched out too much, and the embroidery is really high quality. I wore it when I was flying down to LA to do business with some fellow music industry executives and artists. People on the airplane and in LA commented on how nice the hat looked. That tells you how good it is. Kudos to the owners for picking good merch for their breakfast restaurant, and for being in business for over 50 years!!!! Keep fighting on! No fuss no muss...as the saying goes. If you like simple, almost homestyle food then this is the place. The wait staff is pretty efficient. I had the "lucky7 + 2" with 2 slices of French toast and hubby bubby had Italian sausage omelet with biscuits n' gravy. My choice was simple and good. My hubby's choice of the omelet was also simple and good. However, I had a small bite of the biscuit n' gravy and enjoyed it very much. The gravy was a bit too peppery for me otherwise the biscuit was really good. Would I come back, maybe to try their waffles, crepes or pancakes...such a nice neighborhood goto diner. We understood that the place was full with short staff but it is NOT a reason to yell at the customers with mad face and very bad attitude "You will need to wait because we are short staff!" The Pancake Haus has been, over the years, a place to go for a generous breakfast for a reasonable price. Recently my wife and I felt like a nice breakfast out, so headed down for sausage and eggs. Instead of the generous breakfast we were anticipating, we were served one tiny sausage patty with our eggs, a small portion of hash browns...compared to previous servings here.....and no toast or biscuit at all. The French toast and the pancake were meh and just flavorless. My husband's omelet was not tasty either and my husband almost never complains about his food. This is our second weekend in a row at Pancake Haus, even though it takes us a half hour to get there. I have been wanting to go since I saw it a few years back and was reminded of Der Waffle Haus on Dead Like Me. I have no idea if Der Waffle Haus was any good, but this place rocks! SO here's my run down: -it will take longer on weekends, especially when people are getting out of church (and heathens like me are waking up) -the staff is not there to hold your hand and make you feel special. Coffee, pancakes, next (repeat). However, in a place like this, it's just fine and you have to admire the work ethic when it is packed. -the potato pancakes are dry, not greasy like latkes. So, if you want greasy, like me, they are not for you. They're ok, just not amazing. - the blueberry pancakes are great and have lovely little blueberries that you get in every bite. -the sourdough pancakes are beyond craveable. I got them to put some blueberries in the batter (like a blueberry-sourdough hybrid) and they were beyond amazing. The pancakes were pretty much dry and bland. They do ask you how you like your food cooked, which was considerate. But it didn't really compensate for how much of taste and flavor the breakfast plates lacked. However, biscuits and gravy were nice. The service was good, really friendly and nice people. Location was easy to find, to access, they share a parking lot with ACE Hardware in Edmonds. Prices were reasonable. the bad: Server took ages to get to our table. They ran out of one of the main ingredient which strictly limited my choice to order. then it got worse: We sat down at 11:45 AM and placed the order around 12:00 PM but didn't get our food until 12:45 PM. Eggs looked like it was from McDonalds. Potato pancakes well, basically were pancake mix with hash browns. Mixture of harden hash brown with fluffy pancake, weird texture combo. Eggs Benedict looked and tasted like it was picked up at your neighborhood McDonald drive-thru, nothing fancy and does its job only with a higher price tag and even longer wait. If you've had your share of Pancake Haus and enjoyed your experience, that's fantastic. There are a few dishes that are good... but for the most part, just simple, on-par food. Nothing great, nothing bad... it's just A-Ok. Their "sausage" gravy is good (you can't see the sausage), but no where near Texas good. One thing of note... heir special German fluff pancake... not that great, but I'm also not a fan of lemon. I do, however, want to send some props out to them for finding my credit card and holding it for almost a week (without unauthorized charges). Rock on. read more
