I was so excited to try this place, but ended up being very underwhelmed. The rooftop is huge and aesthetically pleasing, but that's about the only positive aspect. The cocktails listed on their menu are mostly bourbon based (not a fan) and their food menu is not extensive...I didn't see anything that sounded like a must-try. A friend and I went for a post-work cocktail at 5:30 on a Friday. Besides two other people at a table, it was completely empty. I had called prior to inquire about happy hour specials and live entertainment that evening, but there's only music during the week and the only hh specials were beer discounts. I ended up ordering a cosmo martini (small) which was $10. If this place wants to draw (and keep) locals, they need to add more small plates and have weekend entertainment. More happy hour specials would be a plus as well. Hopefully it succeeds as it is near my house. read more

Overlook Kitchen + Bar - New American Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

I really would like to like the Overlook, but it has some issues. First the restaurant is very modern-looking and clean so a plus for that. Service was a problem. We waited at the maître d' station for over 10 minutes with another gentleman (not in our party) waiting for someone to seat us. During this 10 minutes we could see no one tending the bar or serving customers that were seated. I finally walked back into the kitchen just as two servers were coming out with food and asked if anyone was working the front. One of the servers replied that she was working the front. But if you are working the front and seating customers, why are you in the back busing food??? We finally got seated and ordered. The asparagus soup was confusing as it looked very nice but had little actual asparagus flavor. I ordered the bison burger cooked medium rare. It arrived well done. At $16 you expect the kitchen to cook the burger properly. And with your over-priced sandwich you only get a handful of potato chips. How about offering fries and side salad or pasta salad? Chips don't cut it when paying $16. I told the waiter that the burger was over-cooked and he brought the manager. The manager apologized and offered to have it re-cooked or removed from the bill, a nice and appropriate offer to make. The manager also apologized when I told her of the problem with no one at the maître d' station earlier. This restaurant clearly wants to be fine dining but has some work to do. The breakfast buffet the next morning was very good. Service was excellent. Can't comment on the price as it was included with our room. read more

Is there a menu item that you order again and again and you hope will be spectacular even though your constantly disappointed??? Mine is chicken and waffles! I'm always underwhelmed and disappointed....until Kyle and his staff at the Overlook Kitchen + Bar. Hands down life changing!! The chicken is a perfectly fried chicken breast that's juicy and seasoned to perfection! The waffle!!! I think Jesus poured then waffle dough! TRY IT!! This isn't your typical hotel restaurant. This is a destination. Don't get me started on the cocktails, and pretzel and cheese dip. read more

Came here on NYE and the restaurant was nearly empty, but the servers still managed to be hopelessly slow. One bartender on staff making craft cocktails at a rate of about 2 minutes per cocktail meant that it took forever to get a drink, even a glass of wine! Waiter was totally inattentive, wrong food was delivered to our table. Food was decent at best. I don't get all the hype about the ambiance. I think the giant paint splats on the wall look tacky, rather than the 70's decor they were attempting to shoot for. Absolutely will not return. read more

At the end of the day, this is a hotel restaurant. Not a fine dining hotel restaurant but a lunch room of sorts that offers meals and has a bar. If the Contemporary Art Center had a full service bar/caffeteria, this is what I would expect it to look and feel like. I made a reservation after reading good reviews on Yelp and Open Table and I purchased a voucher for a 3 course dinner for 2 to give it a try. We used the voucher for our anniversary dinner. I was expecting this place to be busy and full. The small parking garage was FULL and the street next to the garage was also FULL. We got lucky to find a spot in the garage. Summit offers valet for $6 and they do not comp it for restaurant guests. On the 4th floor, nobody was attending the hostess stand, and it is clear that there was no need to staff it with 2 men finishing a meal when we arrived. By the time we left at 8:30ish, there was another couple eating...a total of 6 diners between 7p-8:30 that we saw. The restaurant was empty and the place next door was very loud due to a party in that space. The service was extremely casual...jeans and botton down shirts and every interaction ended in "you guys". There are TVs encasing the bar and all the furniture is modern. We chose a booth and the seats were low with the table hitting us at chest height. Both of us ordered Kentucky mules and I have to say that it was a very good drink. Our voucher allowed us to choose 2xs any salad/soup, entree and dessert - we both selected the Gem Lettuce Salad and Ribeye entree and one had the cheesecake and the other had brownie/ice cream for dessert. The salad was good, the ribeye was cooked properly but there wasn't much to it. It was more of a breakfast ribeye size, not $32 worth for an entree. Everything was a la carte. We summed up the list price of our meals which would have approached $50 each without drinks. This was definitely not an atmosphere or food experience with drinks worth $120 plus tip, and I cannot imagine spending over $50 for a hotel dinner if I were a guest at the Summit. While the decor is modern, the atmosphere was cold and utilitarian. There is a gallery space on the first floor that was empty. There are plenty of good restaurants in Cincinnati that offer both atmosphere and good food/drink and I think the Summit is trying too hard to be a value version of 21C. read more

WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED! This was so bad, we actually thought we were on a TV show like Punked. We purchased a Valentine's dinner with wine pairings ahead of our arrival. For 40 minutes after being seated we were completely ignored. No one asked us for drink orders or even introduced themselves as our server. We had to go to the bar to get another drink. No one would make eye contact with us at all! My husband hunted down the hostess and told her what was going on. A girl that seemed to be some type of manager came to our table and promised that she personally would make sure we were taken care of and apologized......we never saw her again. A dish was placed on our table by some kind of probably a busboy with no explanation of what it was. It was not on the menu and we did not order it. It was a mystery dish. When we finally got a waitress to acknowledge us, we asked her what this mystery dish was and her answer, "something that starts with a B". We never got our wine pairings. The servers tried multiple times to deliver plates to us that were not ours. Tried to give us course 2 when we hadn't gotten course 1. We literally considered going back to our room and ordering a pizza, no joke. FOR VALENTINE'S DAY. It was supposed to be a romantic lovely evening that was ruined and resulted in lots of anger on our part with being so disappointed with our $150 dinner. What's even worse is that the Chef is making wonderful food!!! It was very very good. Chef......you need to fire the whole front-of-house and hire some professionals. read more

To make this short and sweet my experience at overlook kitchen + Bar was SAVED by the kitchen. Once my girlfriend and I were seated we were instantly greeted by our server missy. This being our first time at this establishment I'm asking missy about the menu and she instantly points towards the most expensive cocktail and the charcuterie. We order our drinks and they come out immediately to us. That was the last time missy came to our table. 45 min goes past and still no missy to be found..... empty glasses of water... cocktails completely empty.... no silverware .... no napkins. To sum my experience up.... again our experience was saved by the kitchen and the new trainee( her first shift). The food was excellent .... my girlfriend ordered the gnocchi and I ordered the Asian bbq wings.... both amazing. Had a wonderful lunch Saturday at the Overlook. A beautiful hotel with quite excellent dining. I got the gnocchi. It was delicious. Definitely not your typical hotel food. The staff was attentive. The feel of the space was good. It was good to have a view as well. Looking forward to enjoying their outdoor dining space the spring. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Stopped by last night for a drink and dinner. Hotel atmosphere is industrial chic as was the overlook. Not a lot to view, but the outside dining was open and airy. Took quite a while to get a drink order in. There were only two of us, but one of the drinks was not what we ordered. They did change it quickly. We eat out 4 nights a week or so, so we see a lot of menus, but found this one hard to decipher. It would just list ingredients something like chicken, waffle, maple syrup, hot sauce. But what is it? A sandwich? Open face? How is chicken prepared? For a soup, it said asparagus 6 ways. What on earth is that? Anyway, the entire menu was like that so we planned to ask the server to explain things to us. He didn't return by the time we had finished our drinks, so we just got our check and left. We really wanted to try the food but i seemed like it would take forever and we wondered if it could be worth the wait. read more

Went there for lunch and while the food was good, there just wasn't much of it and certainly overpriced for what I had. I ordered a salad ($9) with chicken ($9), dressing on the side. The plate was very small and the amount of lettuce was less than what would normally be in a side salad. Very small amount of dressing, and had to ask for more. When the waitress came by to check on us, I asked if there was any bread or rolls. She came back later and said they were baking some. When it arrived it was cold and dried out. When someone orders a salad for lunch, they expect a entrée size. I left hungry and went home and made a smoothie. Lettuce is not expensive. I felt like I had a chicken breast on a garnish of lettuce. No way did I get my money's worth. If they expect to be a lunch destination for the businesses in and around Madisonville, they need to up their game and take a critical look at the menu. read more
