Date night done right! 4.5!! We arrived about an hour before closing and were greeted warmly by the hostess as soon as we walked in. We started with the infamous Onion Bloom, which definitely lived up to the hype by the taste but not so much the look. For our entrées, we ordered the bone-in ribeye with a sweet potato, along with what I thought were the seasonal vegetables. When the food arrived, I realized I had misunderstood what the seasonal veggies were. Our waitress, Piper, didn't hesitate--she quickly put in order for zucchini skewers I had intended to order. That level of service did not go unnoticed. The ribeye was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth good and cooked perfectly. Hats off to the chef! A glass of wine topped off the meal nicely. The ambiance was peaceful and relaxing. I'm usually not a booth kind of girl, but we were seated at a table big enough for a party of eight, and I won't lie--it had me feeling like the queen I am! If you a booth person, this is your spot. Definitely gets a strong 4.5 to be exact. Why? Booths make me cringe!! They have too many!! Truly a meal disappointing on so many fronts. My medium rare steak was closer to well done and served with grilled shrimp when I ordered coconut shrimp. Manager made sure coconut shrimp was provided after the fact however, those were overcooked as well, and thoroughly disappointing. All this following screw up of my salad order. We either missed the lunch rush, or it was just slow for a Tuesday afternoon. We were seated right away. I hadn't been to outback in years. They have simplified their menu since then to steak and a few other items like burgers and chicken tenders. The food was good. My daughter got fruit as a side and it was bright and fresh. My steak was cooked just right. The service wasn't the greatest though. She did come by to check on us, but every time she came to our table, she just seemed bothered and like she didn't want to help so if we did need anything, like a smaller spoon for my toddler, i didn't even bother asking. If I were to come back, given it's the closest outback to my moms, I would request a different server because it really makes a difference. long story short, food is good but service is hit or miss. The food AND service were FANTASTIC! We almost fought over the wings (smile). I was not very hungry so just had the Brisbane Caesar Salad w/Salmon --- DELICIOUS! She had the Kingsland Pasta. Hmmmm what can I say? Ive had both good and bad experiences here. I guess it depends on who your waitress is. Luckily this last time was when I drove in from california. It was a long trip so I was tired and hungry. The bar was nice and clean and the bartender was nice and very attentive. I ended up getting their tuesday special! Which was steak and lobster plus 2 sides for 24.99! You cant beat that, so Thats what I went with. Both the steak and lobester were full of flavor. The lobster was not rubbery and the steak was tender. I got a potato and side salad as my sides and was completely satisfied with my meal and service that day. The only reason I gave this place 3 is because on a different occasion when I sat down in the dining area I had a waitress go on break or smoke break for about 15minutes. Service was so bad that I had to get up and ask for service from another waiter on the other side of the restaurant. They were looking for my waitress but they said they didnt know where she was. I got served an over-cooked (I ordered medium and it was between mid-well and well, no biggie) and Tremendously over-seasoned pork chop tonight. So, I respectufully asked for another from our EXCELLENT server Andrew. Then a bald Foh female(?) manager (who never gave her name) with several gauged hoop earrings gave me attitude and told me the pork chop was "gonna come out salty" so, of course, I asked if it was preseasoned. She was unclear in her answer so I said, "maybe they just accidentally overseasoned at the warehouse" and she said, 'no, the grill cook seasons it'. So, I said, "Then your cook over-seasoned it". This is where a GOOD manager apologizes and says 'we will get you another one ASAP'. Then she tried to talk me out of the pork chop, wtf? I said my mother's pork chop was not as salty. My mother agreed because she tasted mine too and said it was WAY too salty. I said, "Look, I am a cook and your cook over-seasoned. Then she told me with more holier-than-thou attitude, "Well, I'm not a cook. I am a partner with the proprieter", as she walked away. Seriously? You need to be taken down a notch lady(?). Well, Ms. Holly Horan (proprietor), I strongly suggest that you find yourself another "partner" who knows something about Front-of-the-House mgmt AND cooking or re-train this one. First, on how to treat your guests and 2nd maybe let her run the grill for a service or 5. Do NOT let your managers try to blame the guests. Not only is that terrible for morale it is worse for building a return customer base. That may be why Applebees was 3 times as busy tonight. If your managers are too friendly with the cooks -the cooks will manage them. Severs see and hear this happening and usually join in and your guests get blamed for cooking and service errors and your sales drop dramatically. I think you should consider giving Andrew her position and make her cook for a while. She brought out the replacement chop with a side of more attitude. It was cooked medium-rare and lightly seasoned. She watched me take the first bite and told me, "I told them not to season it at all". Another rude comment. However, It was seasoned (shes a moron) and the broccoli was better too. So, I gave her a thumbs up just to get her out of my face. It was practically dead in there. No excuse for this sort of thing. Btw: I doubt they do but, if you brine your pork chops they usually don't need anymore salt while cooking. Make sure the chops rest 3 to 4 minutes before being sat down at the table. Been going to this Outback for 25 years.....yes it has had it's ups and downs, but thought I would share. This is the 2nd time in 2 days as you would have thought how could they still! We went in Thursday the 27th for Prime rib. Not gonna go through whole story except place order and a well done Prime Rib was brought, I sent back and ate the side salad for dinner as they stated that all they had was well done......that is not Prime Rib! Fast forward to Saturday and we arrive at 4:45....DINNER TIME EARLY. Bringing a guest with us. It comes to order and I state 16 oz Prime Rib rare to med rare. He goes to the back and comes back stating we only have well done. I say, that is not prime rib, and he states..."maybe we can do it Outback style" he has a lot to learn.....outback style puts on grille and cooks it more! Manager comes out, states that they ran out at lunch. So here is my question, if you know it is so popular..... why do you not make more....? She said ran out by 1......how???? You have dinner comming up. This is 2 nights in a 3 day span that we have excuses as to why no prime rib. The menu does not state "till supplies last". I have a pic of the menu and no where does it state this. So, we got up and left, to where? Yes, Texas Roadhouse where it makes no difference what time, they always have rare to med rare Prime Rib. I do not like the loud atmosphere, but if Outback can't change it's ways, then Texas Roadhouse it is. Wow, full staff, the place is always packed with wait times, but yet Outback in Irving has 1/8th the amount of customers. 2 of my neighbors had exact same experiences in the last 6 months at Outback. Sounds to me like someone needs to learn how to run the store. I sent this to corporate and the managing partner Matthew sent me an emailed form letter response!
