What an experience. I dined at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse for my first dinner after landing in Dallas and it set an impossibly high bar for the rest of my meals during my Dallas trip. The food and service here is absolutely incredible. That said, given how pricey the meal is, you'll certainly want to reserve this meal for celebrations and special occasions. Between the four in our party, we shared the following: jumbo lump crab cakes ($36.95), prime tomahawk ($194.95), prime New York strip 14oz ($64.95), jumbo asparagus ($17.95), roasted wild mushrooms ($21.95), creamed spinach ($17.95), and a New York-style cheesecake ($18.00) for dessert to share. If you're a wine enthusiast, there's a Bible sized wine menu available here to thumb through. Our server made it a point to emphasize the scale and expansiveness of their wine list. The list goes on and on -- covering every imaginable region of the world and year, and as a casual wine drinker, I was simply overwhelmed. However, if you're looking for cocktails instead, any "standard" cocktail you can think of is available. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was stiff, yet nicely balanced. Moving on to the food, I have never had crab cakes as good as the ones here -- this appetizer is a must order. Most crab cakes I've had have too much bread crumb fillers and tend to be a bit bland. The ones here contain generous amounts of large, chunky crab meat, are well-seasoned, and are perfectly fried. The tomahawk steak is a serious show-stopper. If there's one cut to order, it's this one. Carved table-side, you really get to appreciate the size and beauty of this cut of meat. The meat is expertly cut off from the bone, and I love the distribution of rendered fat on each piece of meat. Some steakhouses offer a bunch of different sauces and dips to go with the meat, but none of that is available here: you're here for the meat, and you can truly appreciate the flavor and quality of the dry-aged meat in its purest form. All you really need is some salt and you've got the perfect bite. The steak here is delicious; no notes. Although the steak is the clear star of the show at Pappas Bros., the sides cannot be skipped over (not that you'd want to, given how delicious everything sounds). I was tempted to order the large tower of golden onion rings that many other tables seemed to be ordering, but ultimately settled on some of the other vegetable offerings. The creamed spinach is rich and decadent. One order is easily enough for a group to share. The jumbo asparagus is honestly some of the longest and largest spears of asparagus I've ever seen. They had a nice snappy bite to them. Although you'll probably be absolutely stuffed by the end of your meal, I encourage you to order at least a dessert to split. Although I only had a chance to try the New York-style cheesecake, it's something I would happily order again. The gargantuan size of the slice of cheesecake is enough for a group of 8 to split. Like everything else on the menu, the cheesecake is rich. I appreciate that the cake itself was not overly sweet. The whipped cream on top was light and fluffy. I had to have my food redone TWICE!! I always get NY strip anywhere I go, the ny strip here was a little tough and they told me "oh it's normally a more firm piece of steak" as if I didn't know what I was ordering. SO ANNOYING! I sent the ny back and got a filet (bc it's more tender) I tried the filet & it was undercooked .. I asked for it to be cooked a little more ...he brought the plate back and EVERYTHING on the plate was overcooked ...the steak was almost well done and the asparagus was almost melting (my steak was supposed to be cooked MEDIUM) the mashed potatoes didn't have a lick of flavor The asparagus was hard. & I like my vegetables a little crunchy but these were more than that. I had a great time at Pappas in Dallas on a Saturday night. Service was 100% in effect and ran like a well oiled machine. I had reservations for a party of 3. Two of us were seated at a table on time and we had drinks while waiting for the 3rd person. That 3rd person arrived with 2 more guest. Without any issues, our new party of 5 was moved to a larger table to accommodate everyone. We all had a great time. We communed, joked, laughed, and ate hard, It was one of those rare moments in life worth appreciating. Everyone's food arrived correctly as ordered and was fantastic! The porterhouse was perfect with a lovely crust, pink center, and savory seasoning. It melted away as I chewed each bite. This is the kind of steak one longs for in life and will quench that carnivorous desire once consumed. There were plenty of sides for all of us to share. As strange as it may seem, the turtle gumbo stood out the most and was a winner. It came with some sherry on the side to mix in. Due to World Cup, it's our first time to been Texas. And Pappas Bros is our third dine in meal, after Texas Road house and Crown Block. I drove from Art Area. The steak is outstanding and awsome, comparing to Crown Block. We arrived around 7:07PM, stayed here like 78 minutes. This is by far one of my favorite steakhouse restaurants. The service is exceptional and the food is delicious. The restaurant is beautiful and would highly recommend. We had the lobster bisque and scallops to start the meal. The lobster bisque was a well seasoned and they add pepper to the dish table side if you want. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the flavorful juice/butter soaked into the bread. The whole dish went well together and definitely got my appetite ready. Thursday night dinner with coworkers We had a private room for our group of 17. Favorite appetizers: crab cakes - jumbo lump crab sent from heaven above. Battered and fried to perfection. Not too much breading. Meal: broiled salmon fillet. Cooked med well, nice sauce on top and 3 jumbo shrimp. Not sure why they cant have a shrimp dish at a steak house when they clearly have shrimp. I really cant eat steak. The salmon was good and filling and especially with the apps and sides. We also got sides of au gratin potatoes, lobster deviled eggs and lobster mac and cheese. A traditional classy American steakhouse never goes out of style. Everyone in Dallas is familiar with Pappas Steakhouse and there's a lot of hype around it, all for good reason. This is situated between 2 highways and a few other sister restaurants. There's valet and regular parking - walking in, it feels like a fancy and high class experience already. We were seated immediately and our waiter was quick to stop by. He was excellent and clearly has been in high class hospitality for decades. The bread they bring to the table is an entire little loaf, it's served steaming hot. Soft and airy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. We skipped appetizers and had a filet, ribeye, and lobster Mac n cheese. The filet... so so so delicious. The ribeye was fantastic too. They're cooked so simply you can tell the cut of meat is truly the best quality. One of the best filets I've had. The Mac n cheese was good - not too rich or cheesy. We were celebrating so our waiter brought by dessert and let me tell you, the cheesecake could serve 4-5 people. HUGE. Very delicious though. Overall, highly recommend. He made a reservation on my open table account, I don't think we needed one- there were a lot of available tables when we got there (around 8pm on a Friday). The hospitality is overflowing. The ambiance is nice, unfortunately I had my back to the view so I didn't really get to take in much besides a corner. They have in-house Master sommeliers for wine selection (the catalogue of options was formidable). The octopus carpaccio was so good (very olive heavy which I love), the ribeye was perfect, super tender, fat well rendered. The onion rings are super good, but be warned they are a little spicy. The mashed potatoes were awesome, creamed spinach great. We got crème brûlée for dessert which was glorious. The menu is nothing special - and so much of it has bacon in it, which we do not eat ( beware that even the fries are cooked in bacon grease ) . We started off with the deviled eggs with lobster - and while it's yummy, it's not something worth coming here for . I did like their complimentary bread. The steaks were just ok. We both got medium well . I got a filet and my fiance got a New York strip - his came out far more charred . The mashed potatoes usually come with bacon, and once you opt out of bacon, they don't bother to season them with anything else , so they are very bland. They have a good menu: steakhouse or Caesar salad or turtle gumbo, a few steak options such as filet, NY strip or Riley, also salmon, and a few desserts including cheesecake and key lime pie. You can substitute lobster bisque for the soup/salad options for a $5 upcharge. Service was very good as expected. I do give them a demerit for only providing the RW menu upon request. The pacing of the courses was good and everyone was very attentive. My Caesar salad was ok but nothing special. Salmon was delicious with the burre blanc sauce and side of loaded mashed potatoes was tasty also. My key lime pie was one of the best I've had. Nice classy atmosphere but not at all stuffy. Papas really surprised me. It was our first visit there. My wife took me there for Father's Day and we were expecting somewhere between Longhorn and Perry's on a bad day. Not even close to Longhorn and I put it up there with Ruth's Chris and even some of the more exclusive places like Jeff Rubys in Cincinnati. My steak melted in my mouth and those skillet potatoes could easily be paired with eggs as well. The portion sizes were more than enough for me. In fact those potatoes did go well with eggs the next morning and my leftover Waygu Strip. I highly recommend this place. The atmosphere was relaxed and not stuffy like some high end places. I believe there was a sommelier who checked every bottle of wine that was opened. All of the staff was helpful. Our server was outstanding I but I can't remember here name. read more
