I had a great time at Pappas in Dallas on a Saturday night. Service was 100% in effect and ran like a well oiled machine. I had reservations for a party of 3. Two of us were seated at a table on time and we had drinks while waiting for the 3rd person. That 3rd person arrived with 2 more guest. Without any issues, our new party of 5 was moved to a larger table to accommodate everyone. We all had a great time. We communed, joked, laughed, and ate hard, It was one of those rare moments in life worth appreciating. Everyone's food arrived correctly as ordered and was fantastic! The porterhouse was perfect with a lovely crust, pink center, and savory seasoning. It melted away as I chewed each bite. This is the kind of steak one longs for in life and will quench that carnivorous desire once consumed. There were plenty of sides for all of us to share. As strange as it may seem, the turtle gumbo stood out the most and was a winner. It came with some sherry on the side to mix in. The complex flavors after one spoon that surrounded the tongue was so stimulating. The asparagus was fresh, seasoned well, and had a snap to it. The skillet potatoes were so savory and had a flavorful crust on some of the pieces. The mashed potatoes were dense, creamy, and slightly rich. Last of all was the mushrooms which were stellar. This is by far one of my favorite steakhouse restaurants. The service is exceptional and the food is delicious. The restaurant is beautiful and would highly recommend. We had the lobster bisque and scallops to start the meal. The lobster bisque was a well seasoned and they add pepper to the dish table side if you want. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the flavorful juice/butter soaked into the bread. The whole dish went well together and definitely got my appetite ready. The ribeye was well marbled and cooked to a perfect medium rare. We had the onion rings, potatoes au gratin, and mushrooms. All the sides completed the meal perfectly. Thursday night dinner with coworkers We had a private room for our group of 17. Favorite appetizers: crab cakes - jumbo lump crab sent from heaven above. Battered and fried to perfection. Not too much breading. Meal: broiled salmon fillet. Cooked med well, nice sauce on top and 3 jumbo shrimp. Not sure why they cant have a shrimp dish at a steak house when they clearly have shrimp. I really cant eat steak. The salmon was good and filling and especially with the apps and sides. We also got sides of au gratin potatoes, lobster deviled eggs and lobster mac and cheese. I like how they deconstruct the deviled egg and allow you to fix your own. I need to go back and get more crab cakes. I could have built a meal of apps and sides too. We always come here if we want a delicious, dependable, and consistent fine dining experience. Pappas Bros. does not disappoint. We have not been able to find crab cakes as good as these at any other steakhouse. They do not taste fishy at all and have the perfect amount of crispness on the outside and large chunks of crabmeat on the inside. Deviled eggs are good, too. Lobster bisque is very creamy. Steaks are always cooked to perfection. Lobster mac 'n cheese, stuffed mushrooms, and potato au gratin were on point! We expect a high level of quality service at fine dining restaurants. A traditional classy American steakhouse never goes out of style. Everyone in Dallas is familiar with Pappas Steakhouse and there's a lot of hype around it, all for good reason. This is situated between 2 highways and a few other sister restaurants. There's valet and regular parking - walking in, it feels like a fancy and high class experience already. We were seated immediately and our waiter was quick to stop by. He was excellent and clearly has been in high class hospitality for decades. The bread they bring to the table is an entire little loaf, it's served steaming hot. Soft and airy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. We skipped appetizers and had a filet, ribeye, and lobster Mac n cheese. The filet... so so so delicious. The ribeye was fantastic too. They're cooked so simply you can tell the cut of meat is truly the best quality. One of the best filets I've had. The Mac n cheese was good - not too rich or cheesy. We were celebrating so our waiter brought by dessert and let me tell you, the cheesecake could serve 4-5 people. HUGE. Very delicious though. Overall, highly recommend. Went here for our 31st anniversary and it did not disappoint. Food is always great and so is service. Had the filets they were cooked to perfection. Dessert was the choc tart - outstanding. My boyfriend whisks us away to surprise dinners and this was one of them. He made a reservation on my open table account, I don't think we needed one- there were a lot of available tables when we got there (around 8pm on a Friday). Immediate impression was the warm greetings, which continued throughout dinner service and everyone who crossed paths with us. You're treated like the most important person in the building. The hospitality is overflowing. The ambiance is nice, unfortunately I had my back to the view so I didn't really get to take in much besides a corner. (Nobody's fault except my must-face-the-door dinner date). What I walked past seemed lovely. We were fully informed about every aspect of the menu, and any questions we had were answered confidently. They have in-house Master sommeliers for wine selection (the catalogue of options was formidable). I had an old fashioned with dinner (Basil Hayden) and an espresso martini for dessert, both delicious. I ordered the grilled double lamb chops and a side of the jumbo lump crab bearnaise that goes on the lamb medallions. It was perfect. All of it. For our side (large and shareable) we ordered the creamed spinach- a recommendation from our waiter, Chase- he wasn't wrong. For anyone to whom it matters- I stopped by the ladies room on my way out and it was immaculate. Holy crap. I think this was the best meal of my entire life. Wait staff was incredibly good, the sommelier was very helpful and super friendly. Every food item was delicious. The octopus carpaccio was so good (very olive heavy which I love), the ribeye was perfect, super tender, fat well rendered. The onion rings are super good, but be warned they are a little spicy. The mashed potatoes were awesome, creamed spinach great. We got crème brûlée for dessert which was glorious. They also do a great espresso martini with a bit of a spin (I think they said they use a milk stout instead of kahlua?). The restaurant itself is super nice, very old school cool. We started off with the deviled eggs with lobster - and while it's yummy, it's not something worth coming here for . I did like their complimentary bread. The steaks were just ok. We both got medium well . I got a filet and my fiance got a New York strip - his came out far more charred . The mashed potatoes usually come with bacon, and once you opt out of bacon, they don't bother to season them with anything else , so they are very bland. We wanted to get the creamed spinach but that comes with bacon too lol. The best part of the meal were the roasted mushrooms . They have a good menu: steakhouse or Caesar salad or turtle gumbo, a few steak options such as filet, NY strip or Riley, also salmon, and a few desserts including cheesecake and key lime pie. You can substitute lobster bisque for the soup/salad options for a $5 upcharge. Service was very good as expected. I do give them a demerit for only providing the RW menu upon request. The pacing of the courses was good and everyone was very attentive. My Caesar salad was ok but nothing special. Salmon was delicious with the burre blanc sauce and side of loaded mashed potatoes was tasty also. My key lime pie was one of the best I've had. Nice classy atmosphere but not at all stuffy. I don't even know where to start our service from Daniel was amazing. It was our first time here and he thoroughly explained the menu which was greatly appreciated. The dimly lit lamps created an intimate atmosphere which is perfect for date night, anniversary and really any occasion. The place was spotless, all staff were friendly. We had an amazing experience, Daniel had some amazing suggestions which we tried and he did not disappoint. He even went as far as suggesting items that were off the menu. I usually get the rib eye and it's always on point. Never skip the lobster bisque. It is honestly the best I have ever had and I will never not order it on a visit. This is white table cloth, crumb service, dark lit steak house. The wine list is extensive staff is impeccable every time. If you're chilled by the air, you can ask for a shawl. Took my girlfriend out to celebrate my birthday. I made a reservation ahead of time and the day of the reservation I received a call from the restaurant to confirm my reservation and birthday celebration. Prior to ordering, I shared to the waiter that we wouldn't be drinking and that we wouldn't be eating pork. The waiter was quick to share what could and couldn't be substituted from pork. I reviewed the menu ahead of time and knew exactly what I wanted, the 14oz Dry Aged Prime NY Strip. I also ordered a side of Au Gratin Potato and my girlfriend ordered the 8oz Filet Mignon, both medium rare. While we waited for our food, we skipped out on any appetizers and enjoyed the complimentary bread and butter - I wish I took some home with me. I'd come back just for that bread. When we received our food, the steaks were a little pinker than we preferred but the food came on piping hot plates so the residual heat cooked the steaks to perfection. Normally I am not too big on dry aged steaks, previous experiences were too funky of a flavor profile for me but that was not the case here. My steak had the perfect balance of dry aged funk and tenderness. I would describe the flavor as pairing a slice of blue cheese with the beefiness of the steak. The next time I crave a dry aged steak, I know where to go. My girlfriend's Filet Mignon was incredibly flavorful and tender. I actually preferred her steak over mine but overall, both steaks were delicious. The potatoes were piping hot and I burned my mouth many times but it was so worth it. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Turtle Mousse cake - which was free of charge as this was my birthday celebration meal. The dessert was well thought out and each bite encapsulated what a bite of a chocolate turtle would be like. It was so rich that we had to take it to go. Steakhouse Review #2: Pappas Bros. We went on a Friday night at 8:00 pm and the place was about 3/4 full. Self parking is easy here. The place is fairly swanky, reminding me of the mob or a place you would see in Goodfellas. The space is bigger than expected with multiple rooms. The atmosphere was conducive to conversation but could have done a tad bit more to make it feel special. Was sat after waiting about 5 minutes and the bread was on the table before we even settled in. My kind of place and the bread was soft, crusty, and soooo good. Our waitress was fantastic and chatted with us for awhile. We ordered the 12 oz filet (medium), au gratin potatoes, and green beans. The food came out in about 25 minutes and when I tell you this is what a steak should be, I mean it. It was cooked perfectly, was tender, but could have maybe used a pinch more seasoning. Now, when I tell you those potatoes made my toes curl, I mean it. They are truly decadent and just so cheesy, tangy, and blissful. I could bathe in them and we devoured them the next day too. You know something is good when you think about it for a long while after. The green beans were crisp and yum but fairly standard. Overall, a classic yet very good steak dinner. For dessert, after being presented with a dessert cart that I almost tackled, we ordered the marshmallow graham chocolate mousse dessert and, my loves, we have our first tears. I cried at how good it was while embarrassing my partner. I can't help it. My tastebuds are connected to my tear ducts. It was gooey and fluffy, perfectly sweet and chocolately, and one of the best I've had. It helps that I'm a HUGE fan of marshmallow. The meal was $160 and we left a $60 tip for a total of $220. My favorite place to eat during Dallas/Ft Worth restaurant week as their $59 (percentage donated to charity) menu is a great value. I order the 16 oz ribeye for an up charge of $20. Their salads, entrees, and desserts are full size unlike other steak restaurants on the list. My order from the regular menu, as we eat there on special occasions, would be salad $18, 16oz ribeye $70, dessert $18 total $106 versus $79. My favorite food is steak and they don't disappoint. Perfectly cooked and flavorful prime cuts make me happy. Salads are surprisingly good. Some hits and misses with the sides. I didn't care for the onion rings as the coating had too much flour. There are lots of potato dishes in varying forms. Even though most sides are pricey at $18, the serving is large enough for 2-3 people. I'm not a dessert person but theirs are outstanding. And a serving is large enough for 2 or for yummy leftovers. I've had carrot cake, key lime pie, cheese cake and turtle mousse and I can say they were all best in class. Service is impeccable. Just the right amount of attentiveness and my drink glass is never empty. My only complaint is this,like most steak houses, is overly heavy on the wood decor, cigars and scotch.
