Nasty Hash Browns!!!!
Paul F.

FYI !!!! These are not hash browns. These are just a pile of potato's with pepper on them. I am really upset that a restaurant of this caliber can mess up my entire morning, Thanks Otto's

Double cheeseburger w/ everything
Jawon J.

Found my way to the tunnels and to a Horrible double cheeseburger. Horrible fries. Food was ready in 3 min so I knew something was going to be up. Didn't have the highest expectations, but did expect something better than McDonald's or frozen bubba patties. Waste of my money and time and honestly put me in a bad mood. At least I got a coke to wash down this terrible excuse of a burger. Gotta come harder, no seasoning or salt on fries nor were they hot, burger the same, no seasoning or nothing. It was just filler. Didn't even taste like the burger was there, just veggies, bread and a hint of mustard. Never again!

Pork po boy

Otto's is a good option when you're not feeling Papa's. Plus, most of the menu is a tad cheaper. Otto's offers a single daily special each day. The most recent daily special I have had was chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and "green beans" (think they were actually lima beans, which is close, I guess). I dressed up my gravy with jalapenos from the condiment bar. Tasted like southern comfort. They had a smothered chicken special last I was there, but went with the pork po boy. Holy smokes, that was some good pork! Sometimes when the meat sits for a few you'll wind up with a dry piece, but the rest is a good ration of tender, meaty and fatty. ( This is what my dad usually gets; he can vouch.) My dad got the dry piece this time, so mine was entirely delectable. The bbq sauce is pretty good. Opt to get it on the side if you ain't man enough to finish the huge sandwich, like me. (I hate soggy bread!) Potato salad is ok. A bit too sweet for my taste. Like, a combo of really sweet pickles and apple cider mixed in there. Came here once for breakfast a few years ago and I still remember that the biscuits and gravy were good. Not sure if they still have that, though. The burgers, on the other hand, have eluded my memory. I recall coming here a couple times for burgers, but can not remember anything else about them. (Could be Fuddrucker's fault.) One downside is that you're probably better off getting ribs at Papa's since there's only one choice at Otto's. The burger/sandwich line is separate from the bbq one. Also, note the daily special lunch is ordered in the bbq line. Plenty of newly remodeled shared seating just outside the restaurant.

I'm going to miss this place since I no longer work downtown. As strange as this sounds, the best thing on the menu is their sweet tea. Can't get enough of it. :-) But food wise, their burgers are your run-of-the-mill. Perfectly cooked to a juicy center on a poppyseed bun. Fries can be a bit wimpy sometimes; I prefer my fries crispy. If you want a good burger and fries, can't go wrong here.

Skip tacos. $12 for two measly flour tortillas with chewy beef and and a small slice of avocado. Rip off.

Just another fast food joint. Meats mediocre, sides undistinguished. Service folks tolerating us sharing oxygen.

Very low quality burgers. Ordered rare, got well done and it was that grey, weird textured, fast-food like patty. Disgusting.

The staff is incredibly friendly, offers free samples while you decide, and never makes you feel rushed despite how busy they are. The portions are generous, the quality is outstanding, and you get more food than you might expect for the price. Be sure to try all of their sauces! If you're debating whether the wait is worth it, trust me: it is.

"Truthfully", this is probably my favorite barbecue spot in Houston…read more In general, it works like most barbecue joints -- you go through a line and order by the pound or get a plate, with the sides as you go through the cafateria style line. Their selection of meats and sides is really above average compared to a lot of places. Every side I've tried here I've actually liked. They use Martin's bread, and they'll give you your accoutrements like pickles, escabeche, and the like. If you like those, make sure you ask for extra up front -- there's no stand to go grab them later, so you've got to get them when you go through the line. Large seating area with many large tables and a full service bar. The seating does get a little filled up when they are busy. I suggest coming early and being in line before doors open. Brisket: 4.5/5 Sausage: 5/5 Turkey Brest: 5/5 Escabeche & picadillo sides:5/5 Barbecue sauce: 4.5/5 Tater tot casserole:5/5 Mac & cheese:4/5 It's pretty consistent -- out of all the times I've been, there was only once where I was a little let down by the brisket. But in general it's top notch, probably the best you're going to get in Houston. Would recommend and return.

A 2-year Michellin star BBQ joint was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My friends and I got there around 10am and were lucky enough to grab a number. The number secures your spot in line but don't worry if you show up and they run out, there's a spot on the porch where the non-number line starts. We ordered moist brisket, garlic sausage, and the beef rib. For sides, we went with mac and cheese and beans. Everything was superb! The brisket melted in your mouth, no knife needed. The sausage had a nice snap to it and get great flavor. The bark on the beef rib was *chef's kiss*. The mac and cheese was creamy while the beans had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. The service is also great! While we were eating, staff would regularly check all of the tables to check if anyone needed anything. The staff taking our order also chatted with us about other BBQ spots we've been to. Everything was such a great experience and the quality of the food is 100/10!

We went on a Saturday and showed up around 10:45, the line was definitely long and our wait was about 45 minutes. While waiting outside there is water and also employees coming around asking people if they wanted to purchase drinks. Once we made it inside, the gentleman who took our order was funny and kind. All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. My fiancée is a lover of BBQ so he wanted to order almost everything on the menu. We ordered brisket, garlic sausage, pork ribs, the whole chicken, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and apple cobbler. My favorites were the pork ribs and apple cobblers. His favorites were the ribs, brisket, cobbler, and baked beans. I loved the cobbler so much I placed an additional order to go.

My partner had the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a small helping of pickles and pickled red onions and I had the pulled pork tacos. My partner said the brisket sandwich was okay, but we both agreed that the potato salad was fantastic! The potato salad was way better than the one at Pappas Barbecue. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.

I love Texas BBQ so I've been to all the Austin, Dallas, and Houston spots especially on Texas Monthly. Brisket was dry, chicken was brined for a little too long and gave a tire texture. Potato salad was too wet, too fatty, and didn't provide the acidity to contrast the fat. The sausage was decent, I give 4/5 stars. It was thick, juicy, and was similar to other places such as Truth, Corkscrew, Terry Black's, etc. The elotes was also too acidic for my liking and the cheese on top didn't mix well with the dish. Finally, the brisket was just ok. I must've gotten a lean piece because it had the texture of chicken thighs. The bark wasn't flavorful or smoky. Barbecue sauce was what I expected. Worchestchire, ketchup, and brown sugar elements make up for an average BBQ spot. Overall, I would come back and order 10 of the brisket egg rolls and call it a meal.
