    Jalapeno Cornbread
    Leena C.

It's not pizza! Met a friend for an early dinner on a Friday (@ 4 pm). This was a new place for both of us so it was an adventure. It's a mom and pop spot with some TVs (sports) and gives an old fashioned dive. It's very clean including the restroom. There were two staff at the front who initially was a bit slow to acknowledge us but once we met, things got a little more friendly. We both opted for the two meat combo. Order: starter was jalapeño cornbread with cinnamon butter Entree was brisket + jalapeño cheese sausage, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. Jalapeño cornbread (5/5) - this came out warm and so decadent and delicious - like a warm hug on a winter day. Def a must try. Brisket + jalapeño sausage (4/5) - the brisket has a nice meat to fat ratio and the brisket was moist and tender, sausage was ok - I think I would have preferred the pork sausage but the jalapeño caught my eye - I anticipated that it would be spicy but it was not. Potato salad (4/5) - recommended on Yelp and it was def smooth and nice and perfect ratio of ingredients - throughly yummy Mac and cheese (3/5) - it was just ok So it came with pickled onions, pickled jalapeño slices, dill pickle slices and regular white onions - they got the pickling down perfect; the pickled onions and jalapeños were so very good and went well with the bbq I know on Yelp there were some complaints about the bbq sauce being more liquid but I actually felt like that made it not overpower the natural flavor of the meats. They ran out of chicken so my friend opted for the turkey and gave me a piece and I'm always hesitant with turkey bc sometimes it can be dry but it was really tasty There was an in and out of customers even at 4 pm. And they seem to have their fair sure of pick up orders. They also have a decent size parking lot. Def will return, want to try their brisket nachos and banana pudding.

It's a rarity these days to find a BBQ spot that isn't counter service. This is one of the last full service spots in the Houston area. Staff is nothing short of fantastic, hospitable, charming, insert any flowery adverb to describe this group. I was greeted to a warm welcome as soon as I entered, and until stepped out of the establishment. Went with my own trinity of brisket, smoked chicken breast and pork spare ribs, sides of potato salad, Brussels sprouts, creamed corn and cabbage. We started the meal with jalapeño corn bread. Served with house made cinnamon butter, this is moist, and flavorful, it's damn near cake. It's all delicious. The brisket is super moist, super tender and well seasoned, it can hold its own with many of the establishments in the city. Spareribs are well smoked, little dry, but very good nonetheless. Loved the chicken, as with the brisket it's expertly smoked, moist and tender. The cabbage is high point, savory creamy and bringing sweet heat, sprouts are good and I really liked the mustard potato salad. I truly enjoyed the experience here and highly recommend to drop,in if in the area.

Bought 1llbs of briskes, 1 whole chicken, and pint of corn. To be honest, I was disappointed. The brisket was good but salty. The chicken was moist but too much salt and peppers. The BBQ sauce is not thick and liquidity. I wouldn't call it bbq sauce, its like in between hot sauce and bbq sauce mixed together.I bought the corn to balance it out the saltiness. Even though, it balanced it out, the corn was not creamy, Watery at the bottom after you stir it.The service was good and the order was quick. Overall, if the meat is salty, I was hoping the bbq sauce would help but the bbq sauce not good at all, had to use grocery store bought bbq.

I came here on my lunch break and the service was awesome! Tim greeted me and helped me made a decision on what to order. I got the brisket and ribs and the ribs were definitely my favorite!! The mac n cheese melted in my mouth. The flavors are so savory. I will definitely be back!! All the staff were attentive and kind. Thanks Tim!!

Wonderful, I have been coming here my whole life and the people here are amazing , now the food, is everything that encompasses Texas bbq.

This was the best meal I had my entire weekend! The place had ample parking. There was a solid staff cleaning, and the place was spotless. The front desk staff was helpful and patient with newbies, recommending menu items and accompaniments from the bar nearby. I had the chorizo breakfast taco and the pulled pork hash taco - I was delighted to find out that "hash" meant a delicious hash brown inside the taco. The egg was creamy and perfect inside a taco, the cheese was good, the meat was amazing. I don't think it's possible for me to be happier with roughly $9 in breakfast food. I will make it a point, even if it's not on my way, to visit Pit Room every time I'm in the Houston area going forward. It is a destination restaurant, in my opinion!

My wife and I had had a great experience at the Pit Room previously, so brought the rest of my family here to experience. I found the food to continue to be really good, especially the fatty brisket. Stopped by around 11 am, and there was still parking in the dedicated surface lot next to the building. The smell of bbq wasn't as prevalent as last time. Once walking in, you stand in line to first order your meat...which is immediately sliced in front of you. You then move further along to ask for your sides, including as many slices of plain white bread as you want. My daughter treated us this time, so didn't record prices, but thought it was reasonable. I liked the sliced brisket a lot, along with the side of elote corn and mac n cheese. The free toppings bar had the various pickled vegetables that really cut through the fattiness of the meat. Drinks were all self serve, with a water station and soda fountain. Probably ordered a bit less than expected for 4 people, but was happy that there were no left overs, and left not completely stuffed, since we had a long day ahead of us. By the time we left a little after noon, there was both a wait for tables and parking. We had come at the right time.

Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The pork ribs were the star of the show. So tender, fall off the bone deliciousness. Pair it with the hot sauce that they have on the side and it was chefs kiss! The best ribs I've ever had. The brisket on the other hand was a little dry and I wish it had more flavor, but the sauce made up for it. We also got the Mac n cheese with brisket on top. They really did not skimp out on the brisket. It was very delicious and the Mac n cheese was perfectly creamy and decadent. They also pickles, pickled jalapeño, and onions on the side which really cut the fat from the meat. The coleslaw that we got was okay though. Overall, it was a great experience. I'm a boudin lover at heart so that's a no brained for me. The smoky boudin link ($8) was cooked to perfection, you know the ones you can eat and the casing snaps with crispness as you bite into it. Rice still has its moist and perfect texture as well. Kam ordered the extra lean brisket sandwich ($15) that's served on jalapeño biscuit buns which he seemed to really enjoy We order side to share, just try. Bacon Mac& cheese. The only flaw was the bacon fat I bit into which was a large pieces (yuck) someone who's a texture girl I would be skeptical to order it again. Is perfect alone/ without the bacon. The potato salad ($4 small) was a good cool balance. The jambalaya wasn't much of what I expected, rice a tad overcooked for my liking. I'd prefer either the Mac n cheese or potato salad. We usually don't eat pork ribs, but the appearance was too beautiful not to try. I was happy to hear that Pinkerton do sell them by singles for guest who just want to try them for taste, like us. They were fall off the bone great. No military discount offered at this time. This is the original location The line is for dine in, and take out. I do look forward to returning for the brisket sandwich and boudin link.

We came a little earlier and there was already a long line. I heard that if you order in advance, you can skip the line. While you wait, the employees walk around and you can order a drink. Which is nice if you're waiting a while and it gets hot. The employees were all very nice and ambiance is how you would expect a regular bbq restaurant to be. There are plenty of seating outside but limited inside. The seats are all first come first serve, so usually the inside seating runs out first. We ordered 1/2lb ribs, 1/2lb brisket, 1/2lb sausages, and some sides like Mac&cheese, beans, loaded potato, cobbler, etc. total was about $120 after tip. The food was very delicious and worth the drive. Although, I will say that it doesn't taste that much different from my other favorite bbq restaurants. I was still a great experience and very delicious. I highly recommend to try if you're in the area.

I've tried those deemed "the best," including Salt Lick in Driftwood and Killen's. So how did CorkScrew measure up? In addition to the beef rib, we tried the moist brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. We also tried several sides, including those recommended in the Michelin review: potato salad, mac and cheese, smokey beans, and coleslaw, and I picked up a peach cobbler, as well. The beef rib: STELLAR. This was outstanding with its flavorful bark and an impossibly tender texture that truly melts in your mouth, unlike any other beef rib I've ever had. Easily the very best beef rib, without a doubt. The brisket was delicious, as well: tender and flavorful. The sausage was nothing special... on par with sausage elsewhere, as was the pork. As for the sides, I've never been a fan of beans, but since the Michelin review specifically mentioned them, I gave them a try. I'm a fan! I would definitely order these again. Their smokiness is gently tamed by a touch of sweetness. The rest? Very average. The mac and cheese tasted like the stuff I had in my elementary school cafeteria - very un-special. The potato salad was salty and was missing any semblance of potato chunks. The texture was oddly like lumpy mashed potatoes. But the other surprise for me: the cobbler. This was simply and divinely perfect with crisp, sweet buttery crumble. A wonderful way to end a hearty meal. I'm so glad I ordered our food online for pickup. When I arrived at 1pm, the line was wrapped around the building. Pickup was very easy: I texted them when I arrived, and they replied when they were ready for me to go in and retrieve it. But even if there wasn't a line, I would never eat there: the restaurant is too divey for me: very rustic, picnic-like feel both inside and out, and it was uncomfortably warm and humid (again, inside and out.) The staff was very friendly and cheerful. Glad i tried it, and when i get a hankering for a good beef rib, this is definitely where I'll be getting it!

As for the brisket sandwich, I thought it was good in terms of the meat, however, I must say it reminded me of sloppy joes too much. If I had to choose, I prefer getting the brisket sliced over chopped. As for the coleslaw, it was fresh and not too overwhelming with the mayo, which I love. The ratio of cabbages and carrots were evenly distributed. Lastly, the pecan pie was not too sweet and really soft yet crunchy. Overall, I would love to come here again, it was honestly one of the best!
