As soon as you walk in, the aroma of smoky bbq hits you. Fall off the bone pork ribs and tender brisket. Barbecue sauce comes with the order but honestly doesn't need it unless you like things saucy. Delicious either way, bbq sauce is a little on the thinner side. For the next time, I think we will order a pound of pork ribs. My grandsons really ate them up. Thats why we ended up getting a dinner plate of it as well. White onion, pickled onions and jalapeños one with the orders. It was good with everything. Dined here on a Saturday about 2p. Not crowded at all. Seated right away, ordered and food came out fast. Queso got hard because we didn't eat fast enough, but server was happy to warm it up for us. Friendly staff will definitely make a stop here again. read more

Been to Pizzitola's years ago when the original family owned it - an iconic establishment. Returned last evening for dinner with friends.earthed from them that the ownership changed 5 years ago? Place was empty barring one other tabie; perhaps because we were there early. The exterior and interior haven't changed - interior was clean - although very warm (a/c turned off?). We were greeted and seated promptly - our server/manager was very friendly and eager to serve - which is quite rare and refreshing these days. Food consisted of three platters: pork ribs and Jalapeño links, pork ribs with elote and mac and cheese, and pork ribs and chopped brisket with elote and baked beans. A couple of Modelos rounded off the table order. Food arrived quickly - the links and brisket were on point, while the ribs could have been moister. Beans were fine as was the elote (although watery at the bottom, perhaps due to frozen corn being used); while the mac and cheese was mushy. Ordered chocolate cake and pecan pie to go, since they were advertised as made onsite. However they disappointed - the cake was so-so, dry and not very chocolatey, while the pecan pie, although thankfully not too sweet, had a funny, kerosene-flavored crust! Couldn't finish either - threw them away, sadly, after paying quite a bit. The meal (with to-gos) and a decent tip cost $51 - rather high for the quantity and quality on offer. The other two meals were roughly $40 a piece. Overall, food was ok - have had better; service and atmosphere, great! read more

Pizzitola's Heritage BBQ - Mixed 2 Meat Dinner - Barbeque Near Me - Houston, Texas

First time here... absolutely love this place. The ribs are insanely good. Other things are nice, but the RIBS overshadow all else. Love the people who run it too. The manager, Tim, noticed I was really into the chow, taking photos... and asked if I'd like to see the BBQ Pit in the back. He explained EVERYTHING they make, cooked right in the pit.. pecan pie too... check the photos. Thanks for bringing me back Tim! Our waiter, Esteban, was a gem. Buzzing around helping us in any way he could... the best! Didn't know the great Nolan Ryan was a purveyor of beef. Loved everything about this place. The Banana and Pecan Pie desserts too... a fitting ending. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED read more

What's not to love? I recommend the ribs, y'all. Oh, and don't forget the banana pudding which tasted so real and not artificial like some others! The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is retro and many older locals eat here. The menu is reasonably priced. I'll be back! read more

Pizzitola's Heritage BBQ - 3 Meat Sampler with an added 1/4# brisket and Jalapeno Cornbread - perfect portion for 3 people - Barbeque Near Me - Houston, Texas

It's not pizza! Met a friend for an early dinner on a Friday (@ 4 pm). This was a new place for both of us so it was an adventure. It's a mom and pop spot with some TVs (sports) and gives an old fashioned dive. It's very clean including the restroom. There were two staff at the front who initially was a bit slow to acknowledge us but once we met, things got a little more friendly. We both opted for the two meat combo. Order: starter was jalapeño cornbread with cinnamon butter Entree was brisket + jalapeño cheese sausage, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. Jalapeño cornbread (5/5) - this came out warm and so decadent and delicious - like a warm hug on a winter day. Def a must try. Brisket + jalapeño sausage (4/5) - the brisket has a nice meat to fat ratio and the brisket was moist and tender, sausage was ok - I think I would have preferred the pork sausage but the jalapeño caught my eye - I anticipated that it would be spicy but it was not. Potato salad (4/5) - recommended on Yelp and it was def smooth and nice and perfect ratio of ingredients - throughly yummy Mac and cheese (3/5) - it was just ok So it came with pickled onions, pickled jalapeño slices, dill pickle slices and regular white onions - they got the pickling down perfect; the pickled onions and jalapeños were so very good and went well with the bbq I know on Yelp there were some complaints about the bbq sauce being more liquid but I actually felt like that made it not overpower the natural flavor of the meats. They ran out of chicken so my friend opted for the turkey and gave me a piece and I'm always hesitant with turkey bc sometimes it can be dry but it was really tasty There was an in and out of customers even at 4 pm. And they seem to have their fair sure of pick up orders. They also have a decent size parking lot. Def will return, want to try their brisket nachos and banana pudding. read more

A HTX staple since 19???, original owner passed away. Now there are small, incremental updates. besides some decor, signage, etc. updates the menu now includes amazing beef or chicken enchiladas! I believe the beef enchiladas are made with brisket. Lots of folks like their pork ribs to start. I won't ask and don't tell me if you know what is in their BBQ sauce. A little does go a long way so I imagine heavy duty ingredients lie therein. If there's room afterwards, try any one of the desserts. You'll likely need a nap later. read more

Old school Houston classic that's been around for years- long before the fancy, bespoke or destination BBQ trend started. It's all good but I'd recommend the pork ribs, moist brisket and sausage. Leave room for some banana pudding with the classic vanilla wafers. read more

It's a rarity these days to find a BBQ spot that isn't counter service. This is one of the last full service spots in the Houston area. Staff is nothing short of fantastic, hospitable, charming, insert any flowery adverb to describe this group. I was greeted to a warm welcome as soon as I entered, and until stepped out of the establishment. Went with my own trinity of brisket, smoked chicken breast and pork spare ribs, sides of potato salad, Brussels sprouts, creamed corn and cabbage. We started the meal with jalapeño corn bread. Served with house made cinnamon butter, this is moist, and flavorful, it's damn near cake. It's all delicious. The brisket is super moist, super tender and well seasoned, it can hold its own with many of the establishments in the city. Spareribs are well smoked, little dry, but very good nonetheless. Loved the chicken, as with the brisket it's expertly smoked, moist and tender. The cabbage is high point, savory creamy and bringing sweet heat, sprouts are good and I really liked the mustard potato salad. I truly enjoyed the experience here and highly recommend to drop,in if in the area. read more

Pizzitola's Heritage BBQ - That delicious cornbread - Barbeque Near Me - Houston, Texas

Bought 1llbs of briskes, 1 whole chicken, and pint of corn. To be honest, I was disappointed. The brisket was good but salty. The chicken was moist but too much salt and peppers. The BBQ sauce is not thick and liquidity. I wouldn't call it bbq sauce, its like in between hot sauce and bbq sauce mixed together.I bought the corn to balance it out the saltiness. Even though, it balanced it out, the corn was not creamy, Watery at the bottom after you stir it.The service was good and the order was quick. Overall, if the meat is salty, I was hoping the bbq sauce would help but the bbq sauce not good at all, had to use grocery store bought bbq. read more

Love this place. Ribs were some of the best I've ever had. I'm a brisket guy and it was also amazing. I read some other reviews where they said it was too salty but I disagree. Meat needs salt to bring out the payout and boy it did not disapoint. Love the sides I chose as I'm a big beans guy also and they were on point. There is a reason this place has been in business forever. Love the old school barbecue vibe with the wonder bread. read more

Today we visited the oldest bbq restaurant on Houston (1935). The small but very capable wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The brisket and sausage were excellent and the mustard potato salad and cole slaw were average. The sauce needed a bit more zip for my taste, and the condiments included pickles, jalapeños, onions, carrots and pickled onions. The sliced brisket sandwich was more than enough for one meal. The pecan pie is enough to share, served warm with a dollop of whipped cream. read more

One of Houston's oldest BBQ spot that still making delicious BBQ, we got the brisket dinner and the pulled pork dinner so we can share and try it all. The sides were all good! The price is still fair comparing to the inflation. The service was fast, and if you don't want bread, let them know. The place looks old but it's clean. Lots of old pictures on the wall and nice country music playing in the background. If you are in the area for good BBQ, this is the place to try and fall in love with. The meat are juicy and soft and very flavorful, the BBQ sauce is not really need it but it does change the flavor. read more

For clarification, my name is Alicia, not Alice. I am a delivery driver, and I'm unsure why that was presented as an issue. When I entered the restaurant, I politely said, "Good morning, I'm picking up a catering order." Your response was, "You're going to have to get somebody else to do it--I'm busy," which I found unnecessary and unprofessional. As a business owner myself, I understand customer service standards and can recognize when someone is being dismissive without cause. The interaction reflected poor professionalism and an unwelcoming attitude. Yes, I did post on google & now that you're intentionally lying on me, I will contact the better business bureau as well :) read more

I understand that Pizzitola's is the oldest bbq restaurant in H town and remember eating here once many years ago and haven't been back since then. Recently I have visited twice both times at lunch. The first time was for the 1/2 chicken plate with 2 sides of slow cooked pinto beans and mustard potato salad from the list of options for $16. That visit was on a Saturday and I took advantage of their Pop A Top Saturday special of $2 domestic beers too. The smoked chicken was overall good tasting and juicy and the beans and potato salad respectable too. The mustard based potato salad was smoother tasting that most which can be tangy. My only knock to the meal is their thin and runny bbq sauce. It needs more body which would give it more flavor. Table service was good too and I gave this meal a 3.5. The second visit was for the sliced brisket sandwich ($12) and I added a side of the smoked 4 cheese mac n cheese (thats what they call it on the menu) for another $4.50. That's the a la carte price for all of their side dishes which is above average in price. The sandwich was served on a sesame seed bun and the moist brisket had bark on it and was tender. What hurt it was that runny bbq sauce. The mac n cheese was thicker in consistency than normal. Not dry but not creamy enough either. The sandwich was a 3.5 and the side dish was a 3 in my opinion. Again the table service was good. Pizzitola's has been here for a long time and is popular with the older inner loop neighborhood crowd. I believe that this restaurant represents what Houston's bbq game was 15 years ago. Since then the Q scene in the greater Houston area has improved dramatically but Pizzitola's has stayed the same. The food is a 3.5 but I must round down to a 3 for Yelp purposes. Don't get me wrong if you come here you will get a decent meal. It's just that there are several better barbecue options nowadays. read more

Everything was executed beautifully for our dad's SURPRISE 90th birthday celebration . The venue was ideal for this event. All aspects were well managed. The food was served hot, and the staff and waitresses ensured that drinks and food were consistently available. They were very attentive to our guests and exceptionally friendly. Pizzitola's Heritage BBQ - Pit Master for a Day Dad - Barbeque Near Me - Houston, Texas

Lovely and friendly people and a time capsule interior to enjoy. I got a couple of sandwiches to go today. Chopped beef and smoked turkey. The turkey slice edges were heavily coated in pepper, almost inedible for my pepper-loving husband. My beef was also spicy, and the sweet sauce on the side had a residual burn that I wish I'd known about. Also the pickles! Anyhoo they are a Houston institution, and I love em. But maybe Dad and I are getting too old for such spicy food! read more

Great bar-be-que food and great service. Plus it's historic. They do get a little crowded early in the evening and they aren't open late.

Don't sleep on this local gem! I used to live near pit room and that was my go to BBQ, but I recently moved and I heard Truth BBQ was the "best" nearby. I tried it a few times and I wasn't super impressed. Well once I found out about Pizzitola's Bar-B-Cue I've never looked back! The service is good, and the staff is friendly! It has an old country vibe to the restaurant, but I usually grab it to go other than a few times I dinned in. Their moist brisket is some of the best I've had, super delicious and melts in your mouth! I also enjoy their spare ribs and sides. I usually am not a fan of most sides at BBQ places but everything I've gotten here has been good! The sauce is very liquidy and tangy smokey kinda which is right up my alley! They've gained a new returning customer for life read more

Before you visit Pizzitola's, you need to read its history. Then you'll learn about the methods and their "thin" sauce that some complain about. Having lived in Texas and California, I've had the privilege of trying many different styles of BBQ. Like anything out there, there are some good ones and there are many not so good ones. The good ones are hard to find. Pizzitola's is one of those hard to find good ones. Their method hasn't changed since the beginning and that's commendable. The brisket is very good but so is everything else. Don't go there if you're expecting anything fancy. That's not what they're about. They put their effort in the food. read more

We made a return visit the other evening. Partner and I ordered the rib appetizer with two sides for our meals. Ribs were nicely done but too much salt. This was our first time eating there. We saw this place on TV a few months earlier and wanted to try it out. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated. Unlike most Bar B Q restaurants where you order from a counter, Pizzitolas seats their guests and hands them a menu. (expect to tip). I ordered the brisket dinner and my GF ordered the rib dinner. I thought the brisket was very good. It was moist and seasoned/smoked just right. Also tried one of her ribs and it was very good too. The plate also came with two sides, bread, pickles, onions, pickled jalapenos and i think there were pickled onions too. BBQ sauce was served on the side. The sauce was tangy, had a little kick to it and was not too sweet. I liked it. For sides I had mac and cheese and coleslaw. The mac and cheese was a little runnier that what I prefer, but it was still tasty. When ordering, I had envisioned a baked mac n cheese with baked cheese on top, but this was not the case. The coleslaw was unique to Pizzitolas. I haven't had coleslaw like theirs before, but I enjoyed it. We have been on a bit of a Bar B Que binge for the last several month. We've eaten at City Market in Luling, at Killens new location on 290 and Brook's Barbeque (food truck) on Barker Cypress and FM 529. Out of these four BBQ restaurants, I liked Pizzitola's the best. It would be my go to BBQ restaurant if I lived closer. Going to have to stop by there again next year when we have our company reunion across the street at Jax's Grill. About the staff: I noticed as customers would enter the restaurant, our waiter and the other waitress working there would greet most of them by name. I got a sense that they had worked there for quite a while to know the customers on a first name basis. It also seems like they have a lot of regular customers. If the food wasn't good, they wouldn't be coming back. As far as ambiance, this place had a down home feel to it. They've been around since 1935 (if I remember correctly). There was a sense of so much history and nostalgia about the restaurant. Looking forward to going back again. read more
