After getting BBQ recommendations from the locals, we set out to dine at Triple J's. We arrived minutes before they opened and there was already a line out to the parking lot (always a good sign). The staff runs the restaurant like a well oiled machine which we loved. If you did do not preorder, you get in line, give the staff your order, meal is plated and you end up at the cashier...genius! We ordered the three meat combo, beans, green beans and added dirty rice, potato salad, boudin (regular and seafood), strawberry crunch cake and peach cobbler. Ribs were tender and seasoned well, tri tip had a light smokiness which was good, sausage was sausage. Green beans had BBQ meat in them. We are used to pork or smoked meat in green beans. Not the best combo for us but the green beans had a nice texture. Beans were good, potato salad was on point (right amount of mustard), dirty rice was on the dry side and bland. Both the regular and seafood boudin were bland so we didn't finish them. Hubby enjoyed the strawberry cake and the cobbler was delicious.

Ohhhh lawwwddddd !!! Take all my money and honey I am not counting any calories today. We found this on Yelp and made sure to set an alarm to ensure we got here with time to spare. They close at 6 and when we arrived around 4:45, the line was wrapped around ! It's an older establishment with lots of memorabilia on the walls through out. There is inside seating but very limited compared to the amount of traffic coming inside. Service : it was like a bunch of my uncles and cousins serving us. They were personable and patient for the amount of people they had to serve quickly. There was a little situation due to confusion from a customer in front of me so as a woman, I was glad to assist as they tried their best to accommodate the lady ( good job fellas !) Now let's talk about this food yall ! Lawd have mercy it was like being at my grandmas house good !!! BBQ rib dinner with their special sauce ( omg ) and potato salad and baked beans. When I tell you my diet flew out the window! I finished everything on my plate and got a side of warm peach cobbler for later. Do not overlook this spot, it's a must go for sure when in Houston. It was about a 30 min drive from downtown Houston and so worth it. Best BBQ I've had and I love me some BBQ honey !

This is what dreams were made of. With loaded potatoes, I expect that some elements might lack such as the tenderness or flavor of the meat since it will be smothered in toppings anyway. That is not the case here! Everything on top was just enough to make me want a little more. This food is enough for two generous servings, which I'm loving in this era of sticker shock casual dining. The man taking my order was exceptionally kind when I was a tad indecisive. He knew the menu well and I could tell based off the way he recalled some items that he genuinely loved the food and could stand behind it. Love it. Will make the drive always or see them at the rodeo.

Came here with my family on a Saturday afternoon during Juneteenth weekend. The vibe is certainly relaxed country. Seems to have a large following of customers and regulars. Service- The line starts outside, and winds its way inside. Most of the folks were there to order and take away. It took maybe an hour to get through the line and get food. Once we were at the front though, there were several staff on the line expediting and the ordering to the check out process was pretty fast. We decided to stay and eat inside. There are 2 areas to eat. One area has a few picnic style tables. Food- we were pretty hungry so we ordered alot. 1 lb of ribs/sausage/ brisket each. Plus baked beans, potatoe salad. The ribs were yum, and I am not a rib girly. The sausage was great. The brisket was aight. Overall solid, no frills BBQ spot. Love supporting black owned businesses.

    Now wa.....................................it a minute!!! I had an unbelievable food experience. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon. I am shocked! Blown away in denial. Not my favorite BBQ for several years. Typical long line as usual. I stepped towards the restroom, but another patron said( O' you do not want to go in there). They only have one restroom...... for patrons. UHMmmmmm, that was my first and last attempt to use their restroom. It is always too packed for one restroom. The all men workers do not care and or do not take time to clean the restroom. Now I ordered- a Rib sandwich and two mild Boudin links, paid and drove home. Let me tell you, the rib sandwich had one slice of bread. \^^/ The ribs were very short and small as hell. Not even enough to make a sandwich. The ribs and way too much black pepper, I could not eat it. Then my two boudin links stuffing, were entirely mush. It was inedible too. They have always been consistent with the food. I waisted time and money for inedible foods. Triple J's WOW, such a letdown. I was in denial two days. I am not sure if I will return. }:{

The smell of the bbq and the line that was almost out of the door promised delicious food. But, our high hopes weren't met. We ordered rib platters with potato salad, baked beans and green beans. Portions sizes were nice and the ribs were tender, for the most part, but they were a bit too salty. The rib sauce was very good. Green beans, again, a bit heavy on the salt. The baked beans and potato salad were good-liked the tang of the salad. We ate in one of the sitting areas and the counter needed to be wiped down properly. Plenty of sauce available from a pump-your-own beer cooler type dispenser. About a ten minute wait to order-but the line moved fairly quickly. We were glad to experience Texas bbq, but would not rush back here.

Best BBQ I've had. I thought I was smart to visit at 11 am BUT there was already a line so that was a great sign. The ribs were scrumptious, fries hit, bbq sauce was wonderful. Also, the lemonade was perrrrrrfect - Not too sugary or watered down, just right. Everyone here was friendly, from the customers to the servers. Although the line was long, the wait wasn't long. There's a lot of bbq in Houston but folks over here highly appreciate triple j's and I'm glad they did. And forgive my photos, I didn't realize how dirty my phone case was I'll be back !!

This was our second time here and I wanted to make sure I gave it a chance since its always so packed. I ordered the two way ribs very tender the sliced brisketr was how I emembered it the first time a little too over smoked for my liking ,the potatoe salad is sweet and the beans were seasoned well. You definitely get what you pay for they are not stingy at all with porpotions. The ambiance Inside the establishment makes you feel like your in someone's home they have alot of family pitchures and very personal to them (I enjoyed that). Overall a great experience and pretty decent food. I like that they added the outside patio area.

Definitely a most if you're in the mood for BBQ in North Houston and worth the drive from anywhere. Meats or cooked/smoked to perfection. Brisket is moist and delicious. The homemade beef sausage is SO good.. this is our 2nd time here and Definitely will not be our last. My only minus is the potato salad.. its a bit too sweet for my taste. And not having Mac&Cheese..

I had been watching on Instagram for a while now and purposed in my heart on my next visit home I was going to be sure to go try it out. I arrived around 10:45 am and they open up at 11am... there were about maybe 10 good people in line already. Once they open up they are friendly and move the line pretty quickly. I ordered 2 brisket sandwiches, 1 brisket plate and 1 brisket potato for me and my sister and nieces. I failed to get a picture of it all because everyone dug in immediately but I must share that it's delicious and flavorful... everything we had including the potato salad and beans. (You know not everyone makes a good potato salad) Another thing worth mentioning is the portions are ample! To me any one entree was enough for 3 adults to eat off. Well worth the money and time and even wait if you are a BBQ brisket lover!

Interesting, definitely need security at the location

We were given this recommendation from a young lady that worked at the hotel. We were in Texas visiting from California, she said they have some really good food. We arrived at the establishment, the line was super long, which was a good sign. We waited in line 60 mins outside only to wait another 30 mins inside. My husband and I both ordered the triple j special and my niece ordered some kinda potato. We thought that we would be able to eat there, but we took the 35 min ride back to the hotel. "man Houston is big. We had a microwave in the room so we could warm our food up. The food looked delicious, presentation was good. The beans were out of this world, cooked to perfection. The brisket was perfectly cooked. The sausage was extremely salty, as were the green beans which I really wanted to like, like I really wanted to like. Anyway, the ribs were very tender. The barbecue sauce was super sweet, not really what I was looking for. Would I recommend this place? I would certainly say it's a bucket list place.

Bbq done right!!! Local favorite line out the door around the block too... once inside I thought cool time to order no, be prepared to be in a line inside a line. But be patient line goes pretty quickly and worth the wait!!! Amazing customer service hands down the best so far and will definitely come back here when in HOUSTON. They have an inside seating and outside patio dining but mainly expect it to be a to-go order just learned you can call in an order which is nice when you don't wait to wait in line. Upon entering grab your bbq sauce to go don't forget the napkins like us and of course your utensils. Enjoyed the J's special dinner comes with 3 meat of ribs about 3 ribs brisket and sausage and two sides & 2 bread slices. fries are extra. But it's homemade fries not your store bought kind. Also ordered a spicy boudin sausage. Don't FORGET your homemade desserts the peace cobbler a MUST!!! Man was the flavor on point and enough crust in there and was still freshly piping hot only way to eat it! Our family ordered the local favorite loaded baked potato worth it!!! Great mom and pop local bbq stop by!!!

OMG! The best BBQ on the NE side of town if not in Houston. Very busy place but lines do go quickly. Loud, casual ambiance with BBQ smoke and lots of air circulating the area. Great portions for the prices. Seems high but worth it. I definitely recommend this place in the hood. Lots of seating if you want to eat in. They have some outdoor seating as well. Small parking lot. I really can't complain about anything and as far as the bad comments, I don't think it's possible because everything is fresh, hot, and goes quickly. They are constantly cleaning the eating areas and making sure everything is clean. You have to try the delicious cakes too... they are so good. Come visit and enjoy!

This is cafeteria style with you ordering and your order is sliced and plated right in front of you. We went around the corner to the bar area and sat inside. That was really nice since the main restaurant was packed. We got 2 of the 2 meat and 2 side plates. I got the turkey and jalapeño cheddar sausage with Mac n cheese and potato salad. Everything was delicious. The turkey was so moist and tender. The sausage was Smokey and spicy. The Mac n cheese was super cheesy and the potato salad had a lot of flavor. The BBQ sauce provided was too spicy for me, but that didn't matter. My husband got the brisket and pulled pork with green beans and the elote. The brisket was super tender and flavorful. The pulled pork was Smokey and tender. The elote was really good. I didn't care for the green beans, but my husband liked them. Really enjoyed this spot. My experience here is why I tend to not frequent BBQ places, I hate being disappointed. The barbecue sauce (the signature and regular) were not good at all. Neither tasted like BBQ sauce. One tasted like tomato sauce with seasoning and the other tasted like a vinegary Tabasco sauce. The brisket was okay, nothing super impressive but no complaints. The queso might have been the most egregious issue (after the BBQ sauce) imagine paying $11 for tasteless, unimpressive, liquid cheese. Nothing in it but cheese and prayers. Adding the brisket (1/4lb for ~$9) along with a variety of other seasonings, made it okay. Ironically, reheating it after a few hours made it actually taste a bit better (enough to justify the price? Absolutely not). The mac and cheese was equally tasteless. One thing I think the Pit Room does EXCEPTIONALLY well is making pickles! These were delicious, seriously I'd go back just for the pickles (only the pickles).

It was fairly hot outside but they had fans along the patio to give relief. The inside of the restaurant is not large but also not small, its first come first serve so get in where you fit in or opt to sit outside. Staff were friendly, and service was speedy. I ordered brisket(moist), pulled pork sandwich, mac n cheese, potato salad, beans, apple cobbler, and a baked potato. The potato salad was a pleasant surprise! It is not your traditional potato salad, but If you enjoy anything dill flavored, you'd love it! The brisket was moist and flavorful, melt in your mouth good!!! The other sides were just okay, not bad but nothing stood out. The cobbler was a bit too sweet and it did not seem as though the ingredients were mixed very well. It was like they dumped sugar on top and baked it without mixing it. Pulled pork sandwich was meaty and flavorful. Pretty good BBQ Experience!!!

I'm adjusting my review to reflect Veronica's willingness to turn this experience into an opportunity. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant while staying at a hotel in Houston for medical treatments. We had it delivered to our hotel and sadly it wasn't the best experience. When we got our order to the room we were missing one side that we ordered. We got Mac n cheese, green beans and potato salad with a brisket/smoked chicken combo and a brisket/ribs. I was shocked to see two pieces of brisket and a chicken breast for $28. Maybe it was an off night but the quality just wasn't there. All the food was cold (our fault bc we ordered it for delivery) and was lacking flavor. Overall, we'd rate it like this: Brisket 3/5 Chicken 2/5 Mac n cheese 1.5/5 Green beans 3/5 Ribs 3/5 Potato salad 2/5 Maybe they were having a bad night but I wish our experience was better.

After doing my research and seeing food bloggers post online about this place, I decided to try it! We went on a Saturday afternoon at 2 pm - packed! There were no tables available inside and there were people inside and outside waiting for their orders. That's something to be ready for if you come on a Saturday. Our order didn't actually take that long. Or maybe it took a little while and we didn't mind waiting. Either way, it wasn't that bad! Luckily it's located in a shopping area so there's always parking. My main gripe is that they close at 7pm. I'm sure there's a good reason for that but I've wanted to try it multiple times before but they've been closed! I ended up going with the infamous brisket and fried rice. The brisket was super tender - I was able to pull it apart with my fork. I typically shy away from brisket because usually it's tough. But this was delicious - tender and had a nice smoky flavor. Not overwhelming or too salty. The rice had a great flavor too. There were chunks of meat in that as well and the rice had a nice smoky flavor. Not too salty or greasy. It also came with some accoutrements - pickled onions, fresh pickled cucumbers, jalapeños, bbq sauce and bread. The cucumbers and onions stole the show - very fresh and refreshing. We were surprised at the pickled onions - they were soo good! Overall - worth the hype! I'll definitely be back to try ribs, chicken or pulled pork sandwich. I heard everything is good here!!

I'm viet and imo that's the best way to pickle anything. Restaurant clean, service friendly and very fast. You can tell they are a neighborhood favorite, so many people came in after us to pick up and dine in! Only thing to "improve" is it was a little warm in the restaurant. Not sure if the ac was struggling bc of this Texas heat or what but other than that, food was excellent and we definitely will be back. Highly recommend!

You can ask to see the piece of rib before they cut it for you and they will happily oblige (patrons behind you might not be so thrilled with that move, but they'll live). Sides were excellent as were the mashed potatoes with white gravy on the side, green beans that were just tender enough, but also a bit crunchy. Perfect. They were seasoned with pork, so if that's not your thing, you might want to skip it. We also ordered their shareable onion rings, easily enough for three people that were huge, hot, and crispy. Let's get this out of the way, some of their prices are a little up there, but if you're anything like me, and don't frequent BBQ places often, it's a rare but enjoyable treat. Sometimes you have to splurge and live a little. Also, they have their regular sauce on tables, but you now have to ask the cashier for their sublime coffee BBQ sauce. Don't be shy, ask. It's worth it. Oh, pro tip: If you want beef ribs, the 'plate' is actually cheaper and a better deal than 'by the pound', so save a little money and get two sides.

The disappointing part of the trip were the sides. 95% of the sides had pork in them which made the entire wait not worth it. This was my first time visiting and it will be my last.

Visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. I was not sure what I wanted to try, so Sam, the owner, gave me a sampling of everything; brisket sandwich, spare rib, potato, salad, coleslaw, beans, macaroni and cheese, jambalaya rice, and french fries. Everything tasted better than expected, especially the french fries, as few BBQ restaurants are able to get these just right. I will definitely return tomorrow to try something new. Definitely ordering the macaroni and cheese and potato salad again. Special thanks to Sam, the owner, who definitely took care of me. He knew I was from out of town, but treated me like a long time customer, which I greatly appreciate. Give this place a try... You will not be disappointed!

The counter service keeps things moving while the food speaks for itself. The brisket was exactly what you'd hope for: a pronounced bark, a rendered fat cap, and slices that held together until they were pulled apart. The surprise for me was the brisket taco. Instead of feeling like a gimmick, it showcased the meat in a different way, balancing smoke, richness, and fresh toppings without masking the brisket. Good barbecue restaurants know their sides matter just as much as the meat. The mac and cheese was creamy, the sausage had a satisfying snap, and the house barbecue sauce complemented rather than covered the smoke. If you're visiting Houston, this is the kind of place that reminds you why Texas barbecue has earned its reputation. Efficient counter service, excellent brisket, and enough menu variety to keep you coming back.
