Good bbq, great customer service . I've been eating there for years now and just about everyone in the neighborhood goes there

I had this at the rodeo after waiting in a super long line for it. Line was long but the service was quick. It was pretty decent and rodeo priced. I always had it saved on my favorites and kept it because I knew I would want to go to get the real experience of the location. I finally made the trek over to the actual location and they did NOT disappoint. They're not open everyday. I got here and the line was pretty long. The line was long, but they are literally making plates to order and really fast. Impressively fast. The brisket was a little over cooked, but the chopped brisket, ribs , sausage, potato , potato salad and green beans all were fire. Hence the review still getting 5 stars. The ribs were tender. Fell off the bone. Even at the moment I don't know why that potato was so big, but who am I to question such delicious foods. A note for me mainly and anyone else who enjoys sauce get the sauce on the food and some on the side. Or make sure you get extra on the side. In comparison to my meat portion I needed way more sauce. Maybe 2 cups instead of one. I didn't get sauce on my food. The customer service was good, the guys were helpful and made the food so fast. Definitely worth the trek over here. Meat- 4- great flavor but dry. I had brisket and ribs. Ribs were not fall off the bone and the brisket had no moisture. Potato salad- 4.5- wish it had a little more texture. Green beans- 2- if you like onions you'll rate it higher. Had a very strong onion flavor. I couldn't eat them. Customer service- 5! Landed in Houston and wanted something near our airbnb! So glad this place was close by. They stay having a line! Yet the line moves pretty well! Gotten the Big J' baked potato that has brisket, sausage, rib, bbq sauce (optional), cheese, chives and sour cream packet. Everything was cooked perfectly and flavorful. We gotten the fruit punch and watermelon lemonade. Good but too sweet for our liking. Then the cake was just a great sweet ending! Definitely recommended!! read more

I decided to stop in this spot as I heard this spot use to be a great place for bbq. I came into the establishment and there was a line in which is a great sign that the food was worth the wait. When I arrived I viewed the menu as I knew I wanted to try the baked potatoe. There is a decent parking lot as they are located in a neighborhood off the Northside on homestead. I decided to order the "Lil J baked potatoe" which included chopped brisket. Now when I placed the order I stated no chives and no sour cream. What I will say is that potatoe had an overwhelming amount of meat and I wasn't complaining. I watched the guy make the potatoe and I noticed there was no cheese. I said add cheese he repeated and I also told the guy I want cheese and butter no sour no chives. I was standing in the line and moved up waiting to pay. I didn't look at it as I had repeated three times what I wanted. As I was driving and almost home I opened the potatoe and noticed there was NO CHEESE. I was so upset. I had to run to the grocery store to buy cheese. Now the meat was good but to eat a potatoes without cheese and have to buy your own was disappointing. Would I go back not sure but I would suggested you review your order prior to leaving the establishment. I'd say give them a try as I past two potatoe spots to go here and they messed up my order. I had to wait to write this review to make sure I wasn't gassing this place. And since they give enough food to last you 3 days I had the chance to think. And the food is just as GREAT 2 days later! I got the Big J baked potato and peach cobbler and they were both amazing. The amount of brisket on that potato was insane! And there wasn't a single dry thing on that plate from the 3 meats to the potato itself. We sat inside and I'm so glad we did because the staff was very inviting and engaged with us. Ohhhh lawwwddddd !!! Take all my money and honey I am not counting any calories today. We found this on Yelp and made sure to set an alarm to ensure we got here with time to spare. They close at 6 and when we arrived around 4:45, the line was wrapped around ! It's an older establishment with lots of memorabilia on the walls through out. There is inside seating but very limited compared to the amount of traffic coming inside. Service : it was like a bunch of my uncles and cousins serving us. They were personable and patient for the amount of people they had to serve quickly. There was a little situation due to confusion from a customer in front of me so as a woman, I was glad to assist as they tried their best to accommodate the lady ( good job fellas !) Now let's talk about this food yall ! Lawd have mercy it was like being at my grandmas house good !!! BBQ rib dinner with their special sauce ( omg ) and potato salad and baked beans. When I tell you my diet flew out the window! I finished everything on my plate and got a side of warm peach cobbler for later. Do not overlook this spot, it's a must go for sure when in Houston. This is what dreams were made of. With loaded potatoes, I expect that some elements might lack such as the tenderness or flavor of the meat since it will be smothered in toppings anyway. That is not the case here! Everything on top was just enough to make me want a little more. This food is enough for two generous servings, which I'm loving in this era of sticker shock casual dining. The man taking my order was exceptionally kind when I was a tad indecisive. He knew the menu well and I could tell based off the way he recalled some items that he genuinely loved the food and could stand behind it. Love it. Came here with my family on a Saturday afternoon during Juneteenth weekend. The vibe is certainly relaxed country. Seems to have a large following of customers and regulars. Service- The line starts outside, and winds its way inside. Most of the folks were there to order and take away. It took maybe an hour to get through the line and get food. Once we were at the front though, there were several staff on the line expediting and the ordering to the check out process was pretty fast. We decided to stay and eat inside. There are 2 areas to eat. One area has a few picnic style tables. Food- we were pretty hungry so we ordered alot. 1 lb of ribs/sausage/ brisket each. Plus baked beans, potatoe salad. The ribs were yum, and I am not a rib girly. The sausage was great. The brisket was aight. Overall solid, no frills BBQ spot. Love supporting black owned businesses. read more

Not my favorite BBQ for several years. Typical long line as usual. I stepped towards the restroom, but another patron said( O' you do not want to go in there). They only have one restroom...... for patrons. UHMmmmmm, that was my first and last attempt to use their restroom. It is always too packed for one restroom. The all men workers do not care and or do not take time to clean the restroom. Now I ordered- a Rib sandwich and two mild Boudin links, paid and drove home. Let me tell you, the rib sandwich had one slice of bread. \^^/ The ribs were very short and small as hell. Not even enough to make a sandwich. The ribs and way too much black pepper, I could not eat it. Then my two boudin links stuffing, were entirely mush. It was inedible too. They have always been consistent with the food. The smell of the bbq and the line that was almost out of the door promised delicious food. But, our high hopes weren't met. We ordered rib platters with potato salad, baked beans and green beans. Portions sizes were nice and the ribs were tender, for the most part, but they were a bit too salty. The rib sauce was very good. Green beans, again, a bit heavy on the salt. The baked beans and potato salad were good-liked the tang of the salad. We ate in one of the sitting areas and the counter needed to be wiped down properly. Plenty of sauce available from a pump-your-own beer cooler type dispenser. About a ten minute wait to order-but the line moved fairly quickly. After getting BBQ recommendations from the locals, we set out to dine at Triple J's. We arrived minutes before they opened and there was already a line out to the parking lot (always a good sign). The staff runs the restaurant like a well oiled machine which we loved. If you did do not preorder, you get in line, give the staff your order, meal is plated and you end up at the cashier...genius! We ordered the three meat combo, beans, green beans and added dirty rice, potato salad, boudin (regular and seafood), strawberry crunch cake and peach cobbler. Ribs were tender and seasoned well, tri tip had a light smokiness which was good, sausage was sausage. Green beans had BBQ meat in them. We are used to pork or smoked meat in green beans. Not the best combo for us but the green beans had a nice texture. Beans were good, potato salad was on point (right amount of mustard), dirty rice was on the dry side and bland. Best BBQ I've had. I thought I was smart to visit at 11 am BUT there was already a line so that was a great sign. The ribs were scrumptious, fries hit, bbq sauce was wonderful. Also, the lemonade was perrrrrrfect - Not too sugary or watered down, just right. Everyone here was friendly, from the customers to the servers. Although the line was long, the wait wasn't long. This was our second time here and I wanted to make sure I gave it a chance since its always so packed. I ordered the two way ribs very tender the sliced brisketr was how I emembered it the first time a little too over smoked for my liking ,the potatoe salad is sweet and the beans were seasoned well. You definitely get what you pay for they are not stingy at all with porpotions. The ambiance Inside the establishment makes you feel like your in someone's home they have alot of family pitchures and very personal to them (I enjoyed that). I had been watching on Instagram for a while now and purposed in my heart on my next visit home I was going to be sure to go try it out. I arrived around 10:45 am and they open up at 11am... there were about maybe 10 good people in line already. Once they open up they are friendly and move the line pretty quickly. I ordered 2 brisket sandwiches, 1 brisket plate and 1 brisket potato for me and my sister and nieces. I failed to get a picture of it all because everyone dug in immediately but I must share that it's delicious and flavorful... everything we had including the potato salad and beans. (You know not everyone makes a good potato salad) Another thing worth mentioning is the portions are ample! To me any one entree was enough for 3 adults to eat off. We were given this recommendation from a young lady that worked at the hotel. We were in Texas visiting from California, she said they have some really good food. We arrived at the establishment, the line was super long, which was a good sign. We waited in line 60 mins outside only to wait another 30 mins inside. My husband and I both ordered the triple j special and my niece ordered some kinda potato. We thought that we would be able to eat there, but we took the 35 min ride back to the hotel. "man Houston is big. We had a microwave in the room so we could warm our food up. The food looked delicious, presentation was good. The beans were out of this world, cooked to perfection. The brisket was perfectly cooked. The sausage was extremely salty, as were the green beans which I really wanted to like, like I really wanted to like. Anyway, the ribs were very tender. We basically ordered one of everything lol pork sausage, beef sausage, brisket, ribs, big j baked potato, baked beans & green beans. Everything was phenomenal & all the meats came with slices of white bread. The green beans have huge chunks of brisket, like enough to be a meal of its own. The ribs are succulent, the bbq sauces are so well balanced, the brisket is smoked & so, so juicy. Both types of sausages were juicy but I liked the texture of the pork one slightly more. The baked potato made my jaw drop--topped with a rib, pork sausage & chopped brisket. Another item that's honestly a meal on its own. Patio & indoor seating are available but a lot of people did takeout orders. It's casual. We went on a Saturday & waited in line for about 30 minutes. OMG! The best BBQ on the NE side of town if not in Houston. Very busy place but lines do go quickly. Loud, casual ambiance with BBQ smoke and lots of air circulating the area. Great portions for the prices. Seems high but worth it. I definitely recommend this place in the hood. Lots of seating if you want to eat in. They have some outdoor seating as well. Small parking lot. I really can't complain about anything and as far as the bad comments, I don't think it's possible because everything is fresh, hot, and goes quickly. I visited Triple J's Smokehouse for the first and last time this week. The barbecue was very disappointing considering they came highly recommended. I've been searching for good bbq spot and this ain't it. I tried the ribs, boudin, and brisket which were all terrible for the price. Especially the brisket becase it was tasteless and dried out. Sadly, this was the one of the worst barbecue restaurant experiences that I've had and if I didn't live so far from them I would of brought it back. Total waste of my time and money. read more

I ordered the Triple J's special with Baked Beans and French Fries. The Ribs were perfect. The Sausage had that crunch/pop when you bite into it. The Brisket was flavorful. The BBQ sauce mixed perfectly with all the meats. The Baked Beans remind me of my grandmother's. If only the Fries were Crinkle Cut. I see why this is the top rated BBQ spot in Houston. I was in Houston for work, I told my friend I need to have BBQ there, they treated me for lunch, I am not sure what they ordered but when I opened the box it was full of meat. The portion was big, the ribs and sausage was good, but not as good as pinkerston, I like the sausage and the brisket. Overall it was fine but I think it need more flavor vs quantity. We're from Kansas City, MO home of the best BBQ! While in Houston the owner of the Breakfast Klub said they have the best bbq and to try this location. It was a loooong drive from where we were staying in Katy, TX but we wanted to try it out. It was a small establishment, and you can easily be fooled because the parking lot wasn't very big (but we realized there was a small parking area behind the building). We arrive a little before 4pm and there was a line. The set up is kind of awkwards as the buffet where you place your order is right when you open the door, then you have to squeeze through the line to get to the back of the line. It's like going through a cafeteria line as you can see the food through the glass when ordering and as they prepare it. I will admit it all looked good and it smelled good as well. I prefer to eat my food at the restaurant, but we drove back to the hotel because we knew the traffic was going to get bad. Between the two of us we were able to try the ribs, brisket, burnt ends, chicken, beans, potato salad. We enjoyed it but I still prefer KC bbq but we all know everyone have the preferences. After all the hype I've heard over the years, I finally decided to trek to Triple J's from Cypress while I was home for the Christmas holiday. Most of y'all were probably still eating leftovers so that's why I was able to pull up and find a spot right in front. No line out the door but one on the inside. Roughly 10-12 ppl ahead of me. Not bad from what I've heard. The restaurant is very small but they do offer a little room to eat inside if you so desire. I think most ppl probably are take and go here cause it was empty the whole time. In terms of service, the guy taking the order and plating the meat was just ok. The guy assembling the rest of the plate was friendlier but the man at the register was the friendliest! I was disappointed I didn't see any cobbler for purchasing. I asked him about it and he said hold on, let me see if I have some in the back. He didn't but I really appreciated the gesture nonetheless. Now the food: I ordered the J's three meat special which came with brisket, sausage and ribs. I saw negative reviews on the Mac & cheese and literally no one was ordering it as I was in line but I still wanted to taste it. Ordered green beans as my 2nd side. It was a no for me dawg on almost all of that food. And I ate it minutes later since I wasn't going home right away. The mac & cheese, yeah reviews confirmed. The seasonings aren't typical, I kind of like a little pepper on my mac so that wasn't the issue. It didn't taste that cheesy either. My green beans were mush, completely overcooked and devoid of texture. Now the meats: they didn't taste all that smoky. The brisket had no real smoke ring on most of the slices. The sausage was ok but missing that good pit taste. The 2 ribs that came in the special redeemed them, best meat on the plate, tender to eat. The BBQ sauce needs work so it didn't help the meats at all. I almost got the boudin and crackers but I didn't want to do too much since again, I wasn't going home. It actually looked pretty smoked. They advertise happy hour specials on the marquee, if you're in the area, I'd recommend trying this place out for yourself. Maybe the back to work after Xmas mood affected the food. read more

The brisket is so tender that it can be sliced with a fork and the ribs are just as tender and smokey. When you go here you have to expect to wait at least an hour on the weekends but it's well worth it. They have limited seating and parking as well. This place is an institution in the houston area. All of the meat is smoked but very very tender and flavorful. This was probably the BEST barbecue I've had. I ordered the J's special: ribs, sausage and brisket. You can literally eat them without sauce. , that's just how good they are. This is the tenderest brisket I've ever had. The sauce is made in house and compliments without competing.
