Great Experience every time, perfect BBQ and great people. Check out the Beef Rib on your next visit!

Woooo!!!! Now, this is a new level of BBQ. The perfection of Lockhart, TX style bbq has come to Houston. Everything was delicious. Up first, the brisket (moist). I don't think I've ever had brisket this good anywhere. Incredible. Pork ribs were damn good and tasty. Original sausage was different (super juicy) but, outstanding. Nice snap and nice mix of pork, beef, and spices. Definitely in the top 5. Potato salad amazing, and I usually don't like potato salads. This one however, is special. Mac 'n Cheese excellent. Don't sleep on the Black Margarita. Mescal, tequila, triple sec, black berry, blood orange. Tajin on the rim makes a nice contrast. Fun place. Plenty of room. Nicely decorated. Clean. Great staff. Airplane liquor bottles available. read more

Terry Black's Barbecue - Maybe add a floater. - Barbeque Near Me - Houston, Texas

I was really excited to try Terry Black's when I heard Houston Heights area was getting one because I saw the beef rib advertised on Netflix. I honestly never been to the Austin or Dallas locations. There was a decent amount of parking and patio seating, but we wanted some air conditioning. We got there at 6:30 PM on a Friday night. It got busy with a line out the door but moved very quickly. You could order a beer or cider at the door and drink it in line. We had the beef rib, 2 or 3 of the pork ribs, and moist and lean brisket with potato salad, creamed corn, and mac and cheese. With a drink, it was kinda pricey at $140 or $160...can't recall since I didn't pay. The beef rib didn't have enough tenderness and was a little hard to cut with a butter knife. The bark or flavor profile wasn't as prominent as I'd like it to be. I think the Pit Room's beef rib was more tender and flavorful. The pork ribs were good and had a nice sweet glaze. It was tender. My favorite was the moist brisket. It paired well with the original bbq sauce. I thought it was tender, and I could easily cut it. The potato salad was ok. There was a lot of dill or parsley in it like the creamed corn. Some potatoes were still too hard. The creamed corn was average. Rudy's makes it better. The mac and cheese looked like it had more cheese on it this time than in other people's photos. I didn't like the taste of the pasta itself. It tasted like a cardboard box to me. I would maybe try this place again if friends wanted to try, but I prefer Corkscrew and The Pit Room. read more

Houston has better barbecue. This is an Austin export with all the bells and whistles, great location, strategic partnerships, excellent marketing all the things, but it doesn't compensate for lackluster barbecue. Terry Blacks is the kind of place you visit once just cross it off your bucket list only to realize your favorite place, still remains your favorite BBQ place. It can very easily fall into visit once and never visit again. Don't recommend. Don't return. All it takes is a few bites to know the hype isn't worth it. read more

Absolutely the best bbq I've had in a very long time!!! The entire restaurant is very clean, the service was top notch everyone was so nice and informative. It's very neat to watch them cook on the patio. Lots of seating. Their original sauce is my favorite. read more

My son and I visited Terry Black's BBQ on Shepherd in Houston yesterday. Very nice place, great parking lot. Interesting to walk by all the smokers outside. We came on a Thursday at 11:30. The place was busy but not swamped. Ordering went well and the service was friendly. As others have said, you order your sides and desserts first at one station, and then move to the meat carving station to complete your order. My son got a sausage sandwich and I ordered 1/2 pound of moist brisket, 1/4 pound of turkey and 1/4 pound of regular sausage. For sides we got mac and cheese, Mexican Rice, and green beans. The brisket and the sides were the stars. The most brisket was excellent and both the mac and cheese and rice were oustanding. I didn't try the green beans. As far as the other proteins, the turkey was servicable but not as flavorful as some of their competitors and I wouldn't order the sausage again. Its hard for me to find sausage I really like at Central Texas style bbq places. For some reason Pappas BBQ has the best sausage in town for my taste, so I'm probably not the best judge for sausage. I think Terry Black's will be a good addition to the Houston BBQ scene, but isn't an absolute "I have to return" kind of place. I was surprised that they did not have chicken on their protein offerings. read more

I was a little worried going opening week, but we went around 11am on Saturday and had a small wait to order food and found a table right away. Service is fast. You order cafeteria style. You order your sides and slices of bread from the first station, then you order your protein and pay for your food at the next. Drink station is self serve and they have all the utensils and to-go boxes/containers there as well. Plenty of seating inside, upstairs, and outside. The brisket and the sides were all good. The Mac and cheese, potato salad, and coleslaw were all worth ordering again. We ordered sausage and it was good, but next time I will order more brisket instead and try the beef rib. We are already thinking about when we will go again despite the trek from the suburbs. read more

Terry Black's is a great addition to Houston's high-end barbecue scene. The building is impressive, the atmosphere is great, and it's obvious they designed the whole operation for scale and high throughput. Even when it gets busy, I'd expect the line to move much faster than places like Truth or Pinkerton's. The staff was also excellent--very friendly, helpful, and genuinely eager to take care of everyone. As for the food, I thought the meat and sides were good, but not quite at the same level as Truth or Pinkerton's. Still, it's a very solid barbecue spot in a great location, and I'm glad to have another serious option in Houston. My only concern is that the parking lot seems a little small for how much traffic this place is probably going to get. read more

I've had Terry Black's BBQ in Austin a couple of times and I thought it was solid. Definitely not the best BBQ I've had but it lived up to its expectations. I am so happy that they just opened one in Houston so I waited for them to die down before giving it a try. Ima just say from my experience both Austin and Houston location were about the same. There are items that were better in Austin and vice versa. Let's start by saying the parking is okay, but if you come on the weekends expect to drive around until you find a spot, there's also street parking which we opted to do. The ambiance has a cool vibe to it with a country backyard type setting. Although it was extremely busy I felt that it was well organized. You start off at 1 station where you order your sides and desserts, then you go to the last station and order your meats and pay for your meal. The wait time was less than 5 minutes which I thought was well executed. Having two stations makes it less stressful and minimal wait times. They also forgot my sandwich but one of the workers chased me down, handed the sandwich & made sure I got everything. Nice work staff. I went ahead and ordered a handful of items for my friend and I to try. Pork ribs, regular sausage, moist brisket, chopped brisket sandwich, Mac & Cheese, green beans, potato salad, cream corn & peach cobbler. * Pork ribs- ribs were tendered and fall off the bone. It had a nice sweetness to it and some heat on the back end. Very pepper forward. 4/5 * Sausage- good flavor & good snap. 4/5 * Moist brisket- good bark, decent smoke rings, pepper forward, tendered and melt in your mouth. Solid brisket. 4.2/5 * Chopped brisket sandwich- good quality brisket, bread was fine. I prefer it to be toasted on the inside with a better quality bread like brioche bread. 3.5/5 * Mac & Cheese- simple, good bite but could've been more creamy. You serve this to me, I would not be mad about it. 3.5/5 * Green beans- bland, not a lot of flavor. Had to add some seasonings once I took it home. 2.5/5 * Potato salad- the Austin location was way better. I prefer mine to have more mustard in them. So this one in particular wasn't too tangy. Potatoes were more on the soft side close to mushy. 3/5 * Cream corn- creamy & sweet. 4/5 * Peach cobbler- it was a bit too sweet for my liking but I liked it. The pie crust was perfectly cooked. It's better if they had a scoop of vanilla ice cream to complement the cobbler. 4/5 I liked their spicy and regular bbq sauce, it was tangy and vinegary. Overall, I was satisfied with my dining experience. I'll be back in a couple of weeks with another group of friends to try out other items on the menu. read more

Every Terry Black's is delicious, but this crew is killing it. I had to wait for the rest of the party to show, so one of the pit masters offered to show me the smokers and explained how they created the mouth watering goodness. Another guy offered to get me a drink while I waited. Inside it was packed, but the line went fast and there was plenty of seating. Staff was very friendly and constantly checking in to make sure everything is good and to see if there was anything we needed. The Q was amazing. Can't resist the brisket, but we also shared 1 beef rib, which being from Indiana, I have never had before. It was delicious, same rub as the brisket, but totally different flavor to the meat. The rib is a meal in itself, tons of meat falling off the bone. Sides are consistently good, I like the green beans and Mac. Great job by leadership in training an excellent crew, made for a great meal and experience. read more

I tried the Dallas location earlier in the summer. Some of the best smoked meats and sausages I have ever had. The Houston location didn't disappoint. They delivered some quality smoked meats as well. Everyone was extremely nice. One of the managers spent about 5 mins with us explaining the story behind Terry Blacks origin. The pinto beans were delicious and the green beans are definitely a must have. Highly recommended getting the banana pudding 10 out of 10. Very impressive. Plenty of seating and parking. Will definitely be back next time I am in the rocket city read more

Service was excellent. Going early gave us plenty of parking and early picks on proteins. My Gosh am I excited to have a Terry black's BBQ in Houston . I first tried it in Austin and fell in love . I came to the grand opening day here in Houston . I couldn't miss it ! I thought the lines would be long but they have a great system that keeps the flow going . It took about 10 minutes . The only thing I would say is the parking . The parking to these places are so small for the demand . The layout had plenty of seating , including an upstairs seating area , which was neat. Everyone here is always so friendly ! Now for this trip I didn't get to try the Mac and cheese since they were out when I was ordering . But they were currently making a fresh batch . I ended up getting the creamed corn & pinto beans for sides . For the main entree I got the brisket and ribs . Holy smokes the brisket is amazing ! So mouth watering . Look , when I tell you the fat part melts in your mouth . Please believe me . It was so darn good . I've been craving to go back already ! The ribs were nice and sweet . The cream corn was a show stopper as well and the pinto beans were normal. If you haven't been by . PLEASE try it , I guarantee it won't disappoint. This will definitely be in my staple food rotation !! read more

Had lunch here. For $45 we had 3 pork ribs, a sausage sandwich , a bag of chips and 2 drinks. The ribs were very tender and had a good flavor. The jalapeño sausage sandwich was good also, but did not really have any heat. When you walk in you order your sides first and then move to a separate counter to order your meat. Everything went very smoothly. Plenty of seating. Kinda loud, but not too bad. We will comeback and try the brisket, beef rib and turkey. read more

The good: The beef ribs were HUGE and the brisket was some of the most tender I have ever had!! The bbq sauces are what does the heavy lifting because they were great as well. The peach cobbler was also a highlight. The sides were just your regular bbq sides. The bad: The seasoning was lacking in the brisket and ribs. As I said the bbq sauce did the heavy lifting her but I was just disappointed in that. Overall it's definitely an experience since it's the hottest spot in town right now but that meat needs to be seasoned. read more

I am so disappointed. I had to leave a one-star review for Terry Black's because the Austin location I've been to was 100 times better than the Houston location, which I was incredibly excited about. Unfortunately, it was nowhere near worth the money. The Houston location just opened a couple of days ago, and I'll give credit where it's due: the location is great, the restaurant itself looks amazing, the barbecue pits are right when you walk in, and you can see them cooking the ribs and brisket. Everything was extremely clean, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food was a completely different story. I ordered the mac & cheese, rice, coleslaw, and about a pound of moist brisket. The sides were extremely bland. The mac & cheese had almost no flavor, the rice tasted like something I could have heated up from a microwaveable package, and the coleslaw had none of the tangy flavor I would expect. Overall, the sides were very disappointing. Then came the brisket. I specifically asked for moist brisket because I like mine fatty, juicy, and tender. The employee brought out one tray, opened it, and he immediately said, "I asked for moist." A few seconds later, another tray was brought out. He opened that one, sliced it once, looked around, and essentially raised his hand as if to say, "Who isn't listening?" He eventually walked back himself to choose another brisket before finally getting what he wanted. That should have been my warning. The brisket we received looked fantastic when it was sliced--about four or five slices totaling roughly a pound, for around $35. The top half was actually moist and delicious. But the bottom half was unbelievably tough. I was practically breaking the plastic knife trying to cut through it. It was like eating a well-done steak. For a place known for barbecue, and especially after specifically ordering moist brisket, that was incredibly disappointing!! We didn't even finish half of it and ended up leaving the rest on our plates. What made the experience even more disappointing was that, especially for a brand-new grand opening, I expected a manager or someone from management to walk around and ask customers how everything was going. Not once did anyone come by our table to ask how the food was or how our experience was at their new Houston location. I was with a couple of friends who had never been to Terry Black's before, and I had hyped it up so much based on my experience in Austin. They were extremely disappointed and said they would never come back. I hate leaving a one-star review, especially for a brand-new location, but I can only review the experience I had. Maybe other menu items are better, but based on the brisket and sides we ordered, there are so many other barbecue spots in Houston that are more consistent and deliver much better brisket. Very unfortunate and extremely disappointing. I def won't be going back to the Houston location. read more

Food was good overall, but the beef rib wasn't as tender or fall-off-the-bone as I expected. The crowd moved through quickly, though the line was a bit unorganized. The cashier handed us someone else's order by accident due to this. read more

Unfortunately, this location is way off from the quality I've experienced at the Austin locations. The service was very friendly, and the setup and seating were nice, but at the end of the day, what matters most is the food. The turkey I had was dry, and the brisket was very average. Nothing about the food really stood out or justified the reputation. And honestly, charging extra for jalapeños, onions, and bread has to be one of the least Southern things a Texas BBQ joint can do. Those are basic accompaniments that traditionally come with your meat, and they cost practically nothing. It just feels unnecessarily nickel-and-dimey. Overall, the atmosphere and service were good, but the food needs a lot of work, is it an off day? Maybe, but I am not willing to give it another chance given all the established bbq spots around town. read more

We got here at 1030 when they opened and they let us in at 1025. Customer service is on point. I would like to mention Ghost who was very friendly and also Daniel who was simply excellent. He was kind, took his time to talk to us, followed up, and was absolutely superb. Great staff all around. The wait was very short even behind the eight people who cut us because the staff is so efficient. Sides are picked first and then someone carries your tray to the register where someone is there cutting and weighing your meat right before you pay. Place was well ventilated and I did not come out smelling like smoked meat which is a bonus for me. Brisket with the burnt ends was amazing, especially the burnt ends. The pork ribs were flavorful also. I did not love the barbecue sauces-they're a little sweet but you don't really need them for most of the meat. Mac and cheese was delicious. Corn was a little sweet for my liking. Very generous portions of the pickle and onions and white bread. Overall a good experience and going to go back next week and try the turkey! read more

I went here 2 days in a row on their second n third days of opening in Houston. One for lunch n the second for dinner. Combining menu items on my two visits I had Lean Brisket, Sausage, Spanish Rice, Mac n Cheese and Peach Cobbler. The flat side brisket was very delicious, smoky, juicy, tender and had a great amount of bark and fat. The sausage was also very delicious, smoky, crunchy with a soft inside, kinda spicy and nicely savory. Obviously a fattier meat and made so well like the brisket was in its way. The Spanish rice was a really delicious side dish and had a savory aroma to it and a moist, sticky texture. I would possibly get this every time when I want a side. I also really wanted to try their coleslaw, but for now won't eat several raw greens n fresh cabbage until this damn outbreak goes away, which hopefully it does soon. The mac n cheese on the second night I went seems a bit pale in color and not as deep golden like when I saw it the first day. It had good, robust noodles and overall 7 / 10 in taste imo. Definitely not bad, but I prefer a very dense, sticky type like the one from Killen's Bbq. The brisket didn't need sauce, but I still really liked both the spicy n sweet bbq sauces on the table. Both very good and not too runny or excessive in vinegar. The one meat I never put any sauce on is sausage, but I like to dip a few bites here n there when it comes to brisket, ribs and chicken. The peach cobbler was really delicious for a sweet treat and had nice, tasty, succulent peaches, good gel texture and a great, buttery, crumbly crust. It was pretty sweet and made with southern love. Much tastier than it even looked and I wouldn't be surprised if the peaches were fresh cut. The service from Kylie and Rob at the checkout counter was so welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. The service from employees at the front, side dish area and some others in the meat as well as table cleaning categories was also very welcoming and friendly too. Great bbq spot and will also return for some beef ribs as well in the future. Top 5 bbq restaurants in Houston imo. read more

We've been to the original Black's BBQ in Lockhart so we knew this one should be very good. It was. While i was taking a picture of the pits on the way in a young man wanted to know if i would like to look a little closer, yup, i would. He opened up a couple and showed me some cooking briskets and the 3 day process and he showed me some jalapeno n cheddar sausage links....i was duly impressed. We showed up a bit after 12 and didn't have to wait long to find a parking spot. The line was out the door but not by much and it moved pretty quickly. We got a small portion of some of the best cole slaw i've ever tasted. It paired very well with the 2 sausage links, half a pound of sliced moist end brisket and half a pound of pork ribs.....all 5 stars. Every table had 3 different BBQ sauces, this "Q" doesn't need a sauce but i had to try all of them, yum. They've been open for 3 days and it's running like a well oiled machine already.....the oil happens to be meat juice....just sayin'... read more

T Black's BBQ is the real deal. Based on their Uge opening week crowds, you probably know that too. But I had to review bc I'm especially happy they opened up so close to me. Now i have an Awesome restaurant right in my "backyard". I had their Brisket sandwich combo w beans and it was huge and delicious. The brisket was so good that i never added the sauce bc i didn't want to risk it ;) But they have three sauce options so when i go back ill prob give the sauce a try. The beans have an awesome flavor too. If you appreciate excellent barbecue, this place is a must. The staff there must have tried it bc they are Very happy, friendly and helpful. Green beans very blah mac and cheese was mac with no cheese, corn bread needs help! Coleslaw was cabbage in a sauce. Blah! Now I was not impressed with the sides at all! Now to the meats wouldn't waste my hard earned money on all of this! I say Rudy's barbecue is much better. They are on point! So i hope this helps! Staff again was great! Place looks great! Our food was cold, and what wasn't cold was overly salty. It was so bad that I was compelled to ask someone working there if that was the intention. He told me it was possible I just had a bad brisket batch. So he cut into a fresh one, gave me a slice, and asked me to try it. It was still extremely. It wasn't inedible like the slices I had before, but it was still pretty bad. After spending $100 for dinner, I can comfortably say I will never eat here ever again. You could eat any other BBQ, and it would be 10 times better. Nobody in our party enjoyed their food. The turkey was bland, the ribs were cold, the cornbread was DRY, and the sausage was overly cheesy. It's the worst brisket I've ever had. Go somewhere else, literally anywhere else.
