Came here for a late lunch last week after a work event and OMG! HEAVEN ON EARTH! The exterior of the restaurant is pretty unassuming and the inside is dated and nothing to write home about. But the food...I am still thinking about it a week later. I got the three meat dinner with pulled pork, jalapeno/cheddar sausage and brisket. You get two sides and I got potato salad (so good!) and the beans. They give you huge fountain drinks as well, so that's appreciated. I cannot wait to go back next time I am at that office :) read more

I love love love coming here every time I am in Houston. The staff is very friendly and have been working there for years! I have yet to find another BBQ place that serves baked potatoes this GOOD. Their BBQ sauce is amazing, you won't find another like it. Their brisket is always so soft and good, has that nice smokey flavor to it. Very nice open space, plenty of seating and very quick service! Even their other location isn't as good as this location! Overall, I love it, can't wait to be back! :) read more

Food was lukewarm warm.. for the amount of money we pay for the food this by far the most upsetting. Service is not as friendly as it used to be.. we had half a baked potato that was cold AND mac n cheese that was the same temperature. When told if we could have hot mac n cheese the cook complained saying it was warm.. not happy and will not be returning to this location. read more

Demaris drive thru service is always accurate and fast. The cashiers are always so sweet. I bought 1/2 lb spicy sausage, lb of sliced brisket, potato salad and charro beans. The BBQ is always top notch. I buy food to take home but usually can't help but breaking into my order while trying to get home. It's amazing BBQ. I loved everything except the charro beans. I wasn't expecting to have mixed beans. But I'll always come back to Demaris. read more

When I first moved to Houston I would got to the 18th Street location when Foleys was around. Back then The m eat was good and the jalapeño corn was incredible. What I had last night at the Shepherd location was horrid. Meat was fatty and stringy, no flavor. Mac and Cheese was soupy and watered down flavorless, the corn looked like it hadn't been mixed properly and there was no kick from the peppers. Oh and it was,all tepid, and I dined in. What a major $28 disappointment. And c it was just me and 4 cops on a Friday night at 8. I highly do not recommend. read more

I love their bbq ! I am really picky about bbq and this location does it for me. The staff is so nice and friendly! They have excellent customer service! The lady at the register is so friendly, welcoming and provides great customer service! The bbq is well seasoned and I really like how they make their bbq sauce. The craft brisket is seasoned so good and the sausage has just the right amount of spice. I've ordered their 2 meat plate, chopped brisket baked potato and their brisket tacos! All are so very delicious! I enjoy that they have different specials each day of the week. Very clean and a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy your food! I eat here at least once a week for lunch. I highly recommend this place! read more

This is one Houston's oldest BBQ establishments. There is something about being an original. So many new BBQ places try to look old. Decorating with antiques etc. The service is what keeps me coming back. It's the same people same smile same great food that made Demeris what it is. Authentic. read more

All around, this is pretty good barbecue. We stopped by for dinner on a Friday evening around 6pm. There was only one other set of diners when we arrived. We quickly ordered a brisket burger with two sides to share (mac & cheese and green beans). Our food came out very quickly! We happily dug into the sandwich, and weren't very hungry so we split it. If you're coming here with a big appetite, you should probably order a whole sandwich for yourself. The barbecue sauce was great and I felt that they put a decent amount of meat in the sandwich. The mac and cheese was deliciously creamy, and I enjoyed the green beans as well. A few more patrons entered as we left, so I am guessing they get a bit busier later in the evening. I might come back here if I'm in the area, though there are a few Houston barbecue places I'd prefer. read more

Okay, hear me out. Demeris BBQ has a really good deal! We went to try it out and it did not disappoint. Service was great and helped us out pretty fast! The restaurant is pretty old, but I feel like this adds to the value! A place that's been running for a while is a good restaurant in my books. I got the combo with 2 meats and 2 sides (which was under 20 dollars). Brisket and sausage is what I always go for and I got macaroni and rice. Truly was good food that was comforting! read more

Demeris Bar-b-q is all about managing expectations. There is no evidence that the meats are cooked over wood or charcoal, no smoke flavor, no telltale pink ring near the surface of the meat. As far as I can tell they serve 'bar-b-q' that is cooked in a regular oven and then served with barbeque sauce. That is apparently ok with some people since Demeris has been here a long time, but it is a far cry from real Texas barbeque. Now you know, and that should be all you need to know. read more

Good service Food taste (brisket & turkey) very lame. No flavor. Sauce poor taste Coleslaw was amazing Probably will only come back for coleslaw read more

The worst BBQ I have ever had. Brisket is dry and tastes like it was cooked in a microwave. chicken is over cooked and rubbery. Sausage was over cooked and crumbles in my mouth like it was made of sand. Mac'n'cheese was runny and taste like water. Walmart would've been a better option. this place should not be in business. who is keeping them open!?!? stop eating here. swear they're cooking 3 days ahead and microwaving it for service. read more

I work in close proximity to this restaurant, so my doctor bought us food from here to try. I was highly dissatisfied with the food and I was not the only one. I tried the chopped brisket baked potato. The meat had no flavor and neither did the sauce they were also stingy with the toppings there was barely any Cheese or chives but they do give you a packet of sour cream at least. I didn't even finish it my meal I ended up throwing it away. I don't know how they're so highly rated. Maybe we came on a bad day. read more

Barbie likes D, but at the same time, she prefers girls. However, she still sees the D Merits. This is not related to that. We've only eaten here twice and the most recent time we were disappointed by a couple of their specialty items, such as the Frito Pie. Altogether though, they're not bad. We will be back in future to try some of the other stuff but so far they haven't been too wonderful for us. Still I support local businesses, and it's not bad... so I just about give it a 4... for now. read more

Venerable family owned and operated Houston BBQ institution Demeris BBQ deserves love and patronage for the many decades of consistently tender and delicious slow smoked BBQ that is served. The brisket and pulled pork are savory and tender, and are offered on a plate, in a sandwich, on a salad, or stuffed in a baked potato. Order at the counter after reading the large and legible menu board, and the cashier shouts your order to the kitchen crew. By the time you have paid the cashier, your order is ready to carry to your table or to take to go. The never ending pandemic has hurt the volume of business, which has been further battered by ongoing road construction on Shepherd. A meal from Demeris BBQ is well worth the time and effort to slog through construction traffic. read more

I've lived in Houston, TX all of my life (53 years), 9 years ago I moved out to the Katy\ Cypress area. I recently went back to my old stomping grounds and was looking for something good and hearty to eat and saw Demeris Bar-B-Q. It's been at least 30 years since I've been here, but I'm very pleased to report that the quality of their food, the friendly service and the cleanliness of their establishment has not changed. I was greeted with kind friendly faces and the food I ordered was ready very quickly- granted it was not busy, still it came out hot and fresh. Ok the dish, I ordered the brisket taco's and OMG! they were fantastic! The taco shells were crispy and light with an amazing taste, and the brisket was very flavorful and all of the condiments tasted fresh and were also delicious! I also ordered a loaded potato, an IBC root beer and (I'm from Texas) of course pecan pie. All of it was just great! The manager was very friendly and made sure I was well taken care of. Demeris Bar-B-Q is a staple establishment in Houston, TX and they deserve my praise and I'm happy to give it to them, thank you! If you're a barbeque lover like me and you appreciate good service, food and a comfortable atmosphere- head on over to Demeris Bar-B-Q now! read more

The pork ribs were the perfect balance of flavor, seasoning and tenderness. I didn't care for the sauce BUT I haven't found any BBQ sauce that I like/love in Houston YET. I took my food to-go but there are plenty of tables and TV's to watch Games with friends The service was refreshingly "energetic" . I don't know about you but recently most restaurant servers can be polite and professional while being numb and robotic. Over worked underpaid employees that work with the PUBLIC have my empathy. Please remember to be kind to people, FIRST, everyone is going through SOMETHING. You never know if you could save someone's life just by being kind. The menu was extensive so lots more to try! I would recommend it to friends. read more

Ordered ribs and brisket through Uber eats. Ribs were not the worst but not the best either. The brisket on the other hand was hands down the worst brisket i have ever had in my 29 years of life. It was dry, flavorless and hopeless that even the bbq sauce could not make it taste good. Ordered 1lb of it and after eating maybe 1/5 of it i had to give up and just throw the entire thing away. $30 for a lb of brisket and i feel like i should have been paid to eat that brisket because of how bad it was. I have seen trucks towing a bbq pit that have had brisket 10x better than this. I don't know how this place gets any good reviews if brisket is in the order because it ruins the whole experience. I will never in my life get food from this place again and if i ever hear anybody around me say that the brisket here is good then i will refer them to a doctor to get there taste buds checked because the only thing it tasted like was bland, tough, dry and flavorless. Would never recommend this place and I'm sure the only business they get are people looking for a new bbq place that never return again. We are in Houston tx, how could you let your brisket be this horrible when our city is supposed to be known for great bbq. As you can see by the length of this review i can't express enough about how much i am hurt by this horrible meat. Calling it brisket isn't even fair at this point. read more

Today, our church ordered from Demeris Catering which operates out of their Shepherd location, and it was fantastic! They offer a wide variety on their catering menu -- a lot more than just BBQ! It was Turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, gravy, and cobblers. Everything was delicious. The turkey was moist -- even the white breast meat was so tender you could cut it with a fork! It didn't need any gravy because it was so flavorful, but their gravy was some of the best we ever tasted, so we just poured it on everything. I would say the mashed potatoes, green beans, and stuffing were slightly on the less flavorful side, but they made up for it with the turkey and gravy as I mentioned and the AMAZING cobblers! Oh, and they have delicious and tender BBQ too! Plus, great customer service when you place an order. I can't wait to order off of their catering menu again!! Btw, I have eaten in their restaurant too, so I am very baffled by some of the negative reviews. The food is great, and I look forward to going back! read more

Food was out lightning fast.Real happy with the baby back ribs. Lightly sweet,Great balance of salt and pepper, wood and smoke. Fall off the bone tender. Disappointed by the brisket, it was tender but utterly devoid of taste. Do not eat without sauce. One of the better potato salads in the area, made the right way with mustard. Green beans are standard canned fare. They are not outstanding but not offensive, they are good. They don't do too much but what they do will have you clean your plate. Overall a good place to grab a meal read more

I'm sooo disappointed. A friend recommended this place and read pretty good reviews on Google. No one greeted us. The sitting area/ambiance was clean and quiet. A server just looked at us while sitting at a table. I had to ask several times where to order before he walked back and another person came out to take our order. The older gentleman that took our order was irritated and when i asked if they carried coke or pepsi he repeated "coke coke coke" about ten times and said. "This is Texas." Sorry Sir im not from here The brisket and ribs tasted bland and very dry. As if they'd been sitting out. The fries were soggy and salt flavorless. Coleslaw was ok. Potatoe salad tasted off. Redeeming Mac and cheese and bbq sauce. Would not recommend or return here tho. read more

Sadly this will probably be my last trip to Demeris BBQ. Stated eating the Town and Country location in the 1970s, then later became a regular at the Sharpstown location. Both were closed down eventually. I occasionally hit the Shephard location when in the area. Sorry guys, but you're charging Killens prices and the food just isn't that good. The sandwiches seem to be smaller and the brisket wasn't seasoned and the fries were soggy limp with oil. I think almost $19 for sandwich fries and tea of this quality is ridiculous. I'll save my $$ for BBQ of better quality. Sad sad sad. read more

Tried them for the first time, really disappointed. We had it delivered. The chicken was so dry and flavorless, and the jalapeño corn seemed to be missing the jalapeño. I went to pick up my order today and the person giving the orders out wasn't that pleasant but I already paid for my food so I just let it be. I ordered a rib and sausage plate with 3 sides, I paid for the extra one. Sides were, baked beans, potato salad and mac and cheese. I love BBQ and always get baked beans and potato salad as a side and I was totally disappointed in this and won't come back. My ribs were bite size, it's like they were cut in half, and not cooked through and looked awful, I did not eat them at the risk of getting sick. My sausage was mushy and the beans were too sweet, after one taste of each I was done. The only semi decent thing was the mac and cheese but it's not the best mac but considering everything else, it was the best thing on the plate. I am totally am disappointed in the food considering all of the positive reviews and won't come back at all! read more
