I came here for the brisket sandwich, but honestly... the pineapple tea stole the whole show. I wasn't ready for that plot twist. Tucked away in an industrial area, Fainmous has plenty of parking and is open every day except Sundays. The menu is simple; choose a 1, 2, or 3 meat BBQ sandwich, fries and a drink, and call it a day. There was no way I could take this home and still expect to continue my Saturday upright, so I decided to eat inside. The food came out fast. They've got a couple TVs going, basketball on one, football on the other, perfect if you're into sports or just need something to stare at between bites. The fries were piping hot, the brisket could've used a little more seasoning, but the sauce definitely helped it out. And again... that pineapple tea was Everything!! Thanks to an IG creator, I came across Fainmous most recently, and what stood out to me immediately were the unbelievable prices--an $8 BBQ sandwich combo in 2025 is unheard of. While my mama was visiting for the holidays, she said she wanted some GOOD BBQ, and as a woman who is extremely hard to please, the fact that she could not stop "um um ummm-ing!" after devouring her pulled chicken sandwich said a lot. My pulled pork sandwich, topped with pickles and vinegars and served with a small side of fries, all washed down with ice-cold water, was the perfect post-Thanksgiving easy dinner. The BBQ was tender, savory, and plentiful. I can't wait to try the Apple Cinnamon Butter cookie my mama left me. The owner was extremely kind and welcoming, asking that we give him some patience since he was the only one working and had just run out of fries at the end of the night, but luckily we had placed our order online and got the last batch. The restaurant is simple, spacious, tucked behind some railroad tracks, and well-lit, with classic games available for anyone dining in. I'll definitely return for an affordable meal deal. I've been to both Fainmous locations: the old location (now shuttered) and the new location just off Washington Ave. And, honestly, I remember the flavor of the barbeque being better at the old location. One caveat: this is Tennessee-style BBQ, if I recall correctly, so you shouldn't approach the menu thinking from a Texas only perspective. Surprisingly, what I did like the most was the loaded tater tots topped with chopped brisket. The baked potato with brisket did look great, but will have to order it next time. First of all, these are the nicest people in the entire world. They were so welcoming and so excited about their food. Now the food. INCREDIBLE. We had the smoked stuff pork tenderloin which was amazing. Smoke level was perfect. The tenderloin was moist and tender and stuffed with a delicious cornbread stuffing. But the star of the show was the chickpea salad. Get the biggest tub they have. It still won't be enough. 5 of us ate half a gallon. It's so good and it has a light cilantro curry dressing. I finally came, saw, and ate Tennessee style BBQ! My sister and I visited on Friday afternoon, just after the lunch rush, so I'm not sure if what I experienced is a direct result of this, but I have to stay true to my experience. So, my sister and I were the only two in the restaurant for our entire hour there, aside from to women, one if which was dressed in cook attire, so we assumed she worked there. My sister ordered a lean, sliced brisket sandwich plate, with green beans, and macaroni and cheese, plus spicy BBQ sauce. I ordered the two meat plate which included lean sliced brisket, pulled chicken, baked beans, green beans, and spicy BBQ sauce. I also ordered a lemonade, which I was told was made in-house. My sister and I both wanted the Pineapple Tea, but they didn't have any. Boooo! Note: I usually order sausage with my two meat plates at any BBQ place I visit, but Fainmous only makes pork sausage. Thumbs down for that, even if it's a Tenessee thing! It only allows me to top my review off at three starts. Sorry. We were both feeling the taste of the brisket with the spicy BBQ sauce. I don't know if it's a plus or minus, but the spicy BBQ sauce was merely sauce with crushed pepper flakes in it. It was defintely different. What I wasn't feeling was the fact that we ordered lean brisket, but I wound up peeling off a good amount of fat and leaving it piled on my plate. I respect how other people feel about fat when it comes to brisket, but I don't like fat on mine. Apparently the person preparing my plate thought that he could change my mind. Go figure! The lemonade was pretty good, too, and it was served in an old school mason jar. Nice touch! Overall, the food was pretty good. I wasn't blown over by it, but I had a good experience, especially since one of the two other people in the restaurant was the co-owner, Karen Fain - wife of James Fain (hence the name, "Fainmous"), who engaged us in conversation while we ate. Went on a Saturday around 2:30 (memorial weekend, not busy). I called like a big girl to make sure they were open since hours seemed inconsistent according to other reviews/sites (usually open just Fri & Saturdays if open at all); they focus on catering & will probably do so until those apartments across the way are done with construction. It's a smaller place, around a dozen seats, so it looks like it's built for mostly take-out service. It is a husband-wife business & he was very nice & welcoming. I got an Arnold Palmer with their pineapple SWEET TEA & 2 meat plate with BRISKET, PORK RIBS, GREENS & MAC n' CHEESE. TEA/LEMONADE: nice flavor but too sweet for me personally, would be amazing if I had thought to take it home & add more water/ice to dilute it. BRISKET: Very moist & tender, nice bark & lots of Hickory smoke flavor, a little salty (unfortunately discovered I don't like Hickory however). RIBS: More tender, in between falling-off-bone & chewy type, again a little salty & strong in Hickory smoke. GREENS: Tender, not mushy, nothing special going on though like smoke/ham which isn't necessarily a bad thing when pairing with other bold flavors like BBQ'd meats. MAC: A thicker type of sauce but don't think it had egg in it... maybe cream cheese addition to cheddar/a cheese blend? Sad I don't like Hickory smoke flavor because the couple is sweet, the sides are good & the meat is good quality & well executed/made. A friend of mine suggested this place to me. I passed through here on a Saturday about 3pm, which is kinda peak timing but is bare. This place is easy to find but the parking is a little scattered. I had to park in the back lot and walk here. It was very clean. I believe they were playing music when I walked in and then it just stopped which really felt kinda awkward. Presumably the owners were sitting there working. There were two people behind the counter. I picked up a menu from the side. I ordered brisket. And a couple sides. Whenever I try something new. I always ask what's good and the gentleman behind the counter was able to provide me with some of the more popular picks. I went with cream spinach and Mac and cheese. The cream spinach is a bomb side. The portion is pretty good for what you pay as well. The Mac and cheese wasn't for me. The brisket and barbecue sauce also wasn't for me. My brisket was just warm and a little dry. It wasn't what I expected from a new restaurant. I got my food to go, upon checking out, I had to ask if there were any drinks available and I believe there is lemonade and bottled water but I didn't easily see those options. I have been dying to try this place since starting to see ads on my Facebook over a month. It seemed now was better than ever to go check it out. Upon entering it seem like the location not yet met up with what I expected the hype to be. There was no one else in the restaurant when we ended at prime lunch time. We walked up to the counter and go instantly greeted. While there they asked for here or to go multiple times, I was okay with that. They took my boyfriends order then took mine after awhile of getting his ready. There were four people working and half of them seemed clueless most of the time. We weren't asked about what we wanted to drink until I had already removed my card then the girl finally offered us bottled water. I felt the cost was a bit high for an extra side of beans to be 4 dollars. Didn't seem to have many drink options. The sides while sitting there looked rather than old. I was curious about some of the other sides however they looked to have been sitting there too long that I didn't want to try them. I had the one meat place with the cole slaw and Mac & cheese. The Mac and cheese was the best part about the meal. The brisket seemed rather chewy. I was not impressed with it. From all the posts I had seen I thought it would be the best brisket of my life. This was tough and I couldn't put enough sauce on it. The spicy sauce seemed to have plenty of spices mixed in. It was better than some places. My boyfriends baked loaded spud or whatever you want to call it was nicely done presentation wise. But seemed to have been microwaved to melt the cheese or something when the girl took it to the back. On my drive across the country my girlfriend and I stopped here for some lunch since we wanted to get BBQ while in Houston. I ordered the Brisket with the spicy sauce, Mac & Cheese, and the spinach casserole as pictured. My girlfriend ordered the sliders. We also tried their lemonade and special pineapple lemonade tea (I believe?). We were overall pleased with our experience here. The Mac & Cheese was really good. We tried some sausage inside that was absolutely phenomenal, and honestly what I wish we got. The brisket was alright, I was really pining for it to be better. I've never been a fan of creamed spinach or spinach casserole, but I decided I'd try their since it was newly added. I was not a fan of it, but my girlfriend really enjoyed. So if you're not a fan of it to begin with, don't order it. The only real suggestion I'd have is for less ice in the drinks. $3.25 for 80% ice in a cup was a little disappointing. I first went to Fainmous BBQ years back shortly after Hurricane Harvey when they were in a strip center in Meyerland. My experience then was a good one, so I was happy to find they've relocated inside the 610 loop in the rapidly developing Sawyer Yards complex. The restaurant is owned by a couple originally from Knoxville, who brought their East Tennessee-style of barbecue to Houston. The menu has the typical barbecue breakdown that allows for ordering individual meats by weight; 1, 2, or 3 meat plates; as well as bulk "family packs". There's also a robust list of sandwiches of various meats; your usual barbecue sides like baked beans, potato salad, and green beans; Southern-style desserts such as sweet potato pie and cobbler; and specialty items like a rib tip sandwich. Not all of these are always available, though (when I visited the only dessert on offer was cobbler), so do call ahead if you're looking for something specific. When trying a new barbecue place, I normally opt for the Texas trinity, i.e., brisket, ribs, and sausage. Brisket is indeed an option here, however, given this is East Tennessee barbecue, which gears more towards pork, I got a three meat plate with ribs and sausage that included pulled pork rather than brisket. For sides, I opted for mac and cheese as well as the bit more unique spinach casserole with peach cobbler for dessert. Homemade lemonade was my beverage of choice. It's not often that you go to a barbecue place that does everything well, in which each meat is impressive and the sides are likewise a hit. Usually a spot specializes in one kind of meat that is excellent while the others are only so-so and the sides are sometimes simply an afterthought to the meat. Fainmous is thus a rare breed in that they hit it out of the park across the board. As one would hope for in an East Tennessee joint, the pulled pork was top quality - moist and tender with a flavor that was smoky without being overpowering. The ribs had a great dry rub and exhibited a nice bark with the meat dropping easily off of the bone to likewise impart a subtle smoky taste. Of course, I had expected the pulled pork and ribs to be good, but the sausage really took me by surprise with its quality. Tightly constructed with a slight spiciness, it perfectly rounded off the meat trio. Barbecue should always be good enough that it can stand on its own from sauce, and that was definitely the case here. The sauce provided, more vinegary than the sweet varieties usually found with Texas barbecue, thus only served to enhance the already considerable flavor. As far as the sides, the spinach casserole, a unique barbecue item to begin with, really impressed with a particularly rich creaminess. Its counterpart, the mac and cheese, while still good and a great accompaniment to the casserole, was perhaps the only item in the whole meal that didn't completely wow. The dining experience was then perfectly finished with the delicious peach cobbler that practically melted in my mouth in a flaky sugary, delight and for which the only complaint possible is that I didn't have some vanilla ice cream to make it a la mode. All of this was washed down by a refreshing, sweet lemonade. Food aside, I was also charmed by the sheer friendliness of the staff, particularly the wife owner with whom I spoke at length. A longtime chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry who finally decided to go all in on her barbecue, she passionately explained the intricacies of Tennessee barbecue and how her style of Knoxville barbecue near the North Carolina border in the East differs from the Memphis style in the West. As a native Texan raised on barbecue who eats it quite a bit, I would say my standards are high when it comes to smoked meat and the places that serve it. Accordingly, when I say Fainmous BBQ impressed me on all fronts, I don't write that lightly. We patronized this business on Saturday, July 1st and concluded that we will not be making the effort in the future to drive 30 minutes in traffic for lackluster food, uncouthness and hidden fees tackled on your food bill. I ordered the three meat combo and the bbq cauliflower. The cauliflower was delicious. The combo comes with two sides. I choose the potato salad and the creamed spinach. For my three meats I choose the brisket, chicken and sausage. The chicken and sausage were pretty good. The brisket, although flavorful-was quite dry. We spent over $80 for them to only give us one small container of bbq sauce so we had to go up to counter to ask for more. There was a man behind the counter attempting to make a running "joke" to tip him-and we didn't find it funny. This restaurant is counter service not wait service. Furthermore, he didn't even take our order. He was in the back cutting up meat so his multiple requests for us to "tip" him was strange and very unprofessional. If we were a group of young, white women would you be this familiar with them and show your lack of decorum? We don't know you, sir. Be professional. It is a fairly small space and I noticed we were the only black patrons to dine in. I watched the workers come to greet the other dine in customers at their tables and ask them about their food but they failed to come to ours. Like, what kind of reverse racism is this?? Lol! The straw that broke the camel's back was noticing on our receipt a $1 charge for the sliced brisket option for my combo. I don't have a problem with a premium upgrade that the customer pays for. However, a good business will be transparent with all fees for their product. The fact that this is not written or mentioned anywhere on their menu-unless you order to go- is quite weird to me. There were no physical menus. Just a QR code-which is fine. I looked through the prior photos and saw at one time they did have physical menus with the premium charge explicitly stated. I would suggest making it clear to customers that dine in about upgrades when they access the menu through the QR code as well. Hidden gem so close to home! Was craving some bbq and started googling what's around and didn't realize this little place was right across the road; so of course I had to order. Soooo good. The pulled pork sandwich was perfect, with pickles and onions. The brisket just fell apartment and had a perfect smoke flavor. The mixed sauce has just the right balance of sweet and heat. Stumbled across this fine little place and all I can say is wow. This isn't Texas BBQ, roots in Tennessee and a long family history of BBQ. We opted for a 3 meat plate. Brisket, ribs and chicken with Mac and cheese and chickpea salad for our sides. The chicken was moist and delicious, the brisket was lean, tender and amazing; the ribs are absolutely spot on with flavor and tenderness. To top off the amazing BBQ was the wonderful people we met while there; Karen and Jamie the owners and Miss Linda are some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. They allowed us to sample several other sides and everything we put in our mouths was fantastic. I've been meaning to try this place for a while since I frequent the brewery next door. Upon entry, the first thing I noticed was how empty it was for a Friday at lunch time. I was great very nicely by a gentleman who was very welcoming and polite. Service is great and probably the only reason it's getting stars. I judge every BBQ spot by brisket and ribs... to say that both at Fainmous were VERY underwhelming is an understatement. As you can see by the photos, not very a appetizing look as well. As far as the flavor, just as bad. Not sure if they are using an electric smoker or an oven with liquid smoke. Brisket was near flavorless, no smoke flavor and chewy. The mini ribs, riblets or whatever I was given were equally underwhelming. Hmm, maybe I'm the odd man out, but I don't get all the rave reviews about this place at all. I actually went out of my way to come out here to try the food and although I wasn't expecting to be blown away, I was expecting it to be somewhat decent considering the favorable reviews. Moreover, a lot of my trustworthy Yelpers gave this place the okay. I came in around 1 pm so it was just after lunch time. I was the only customer in the restaurant. As I walked in, there were two workers: one was sitting at the table in the middle of the restaurant watching TV and falling asleep, while the other was sitting at a table close to the wall. As I approached the counter, one of the workers (the female sitting by the wall) walked up to behind the counter, She didn't look like she wanted to be there though. As I was looking over the menu, she asked whether the male worker wanted to take my order, to which he dismissed and told her to go ahead. I decided to go with the two meats platter which comes with two sides. I decided to get the sliced beef (which I assumed was the brisket) and the pulled pork (since most of the reviews seem to be raving about this). For the two sides, I decided with the potato salad and the green beans. She asked what kind of sauce I wanted (mild/medium/spicy) and I went with mild. I also ordered a bottle of water since they don't offer water on tap (booooo!) Last thing she asked me was whether I was dining in or taking it to go. I promptly told her it was for here. Once all was said and done, I paid and took my seat. While I was waiting, I noticed that the restaurant was really warm. They had what looked like a large portable air conditioner unit, but that didn't really help to cool down the restaurant while it was 100 degrees outside. The table covers were also very sticky (at least the table I was sitting at) like it hadn't been cleaned in a good while. I tried moving the napkin dispenser from the middle of the table to the side and was unsuccessful because the bottom of the dispenser was stuck to the table cover. The same goes for their little sign holder. After I placed my order, I took a seat and waited for my meal to come out. After a pretty short wait, the female worker came out with a plastic bag and my meal packed ready to go. Seeing that, I told her "I said I was dining in" to which she responded, "oh" and then taking everything out of the bag and putting it in front of me. She didn't even apologize for the mishap, or even offered to put my meal on a plate. So I ended up dining in out of a Styrofoam to-go box with plastic utensils (Although to be fair, I'm not sure whether or not they serve you meals on a plate and give you silverware). Still, I was hoping that the BBQ would be amazingly delicious to make up everything that had gone wrong. But nope. The brisket was really dry and almost flavorless. I had to use a lot of BBQ sauce (which I thought was decent) to be able to somewhat enjoy my meal. It was also the same case with the pulled pork. I didn't know what was so special about it. It was dry an also flavorless. As for the sides? I didn't enjoy my potato salad and the green beans tasted like microwaved green beans out of a can (which is what I do at home). The place is nice .. pretty cool spot .. but the BBQ is not it.. over price BBQ .. brisket had more fat then meat .. and the pork rips are small and also with a lot fat on it ... 2 meat plate with 2 sides and a drink is $25! Idk I feel I can get better BBQ some where else at a better price too. read more

Even though it may not be the best BBQ I've had, this place totally blew away my expectations and that's why I'm giving it 5 stars. The place is located in a corner of a nondescript shopping center, and humbly decorated with only a handful tables. I went up and ordered a two meat plate - I got pulled pork and brisket. For the brisket I specifically asked for the fatty portion and the guy at the cashier smiled and said of course! One of the first things you'll notice is how genuinely friendly and nice everyone who works there seems to be...not sure if they were family, but it sure seemed like it. The food was legit. I started with the pulled pork which was amazing...I have to admit I was pretty liberal with the spicy BBQ sauce and dumped it all over. The crisp slaw was a perfect complement to the pork, and they give you some bread if you want to make your own sandwich. The brisket really impressed me...beautiful smokey flavor, perfect fat and marble, ultra-moist, that easily came apart and melted in my mouth. In my opinion, this brisket was far better than Gatlin's (which is way overrated!). If you're in the area, come check this place out. You won't be disappointed! read more

Pretty good little bbq place in the corner of a strip center just south of the Kroger building. My colleagues and I were looking for a restaurant since we had to run some errands in the area. I remembered seeing this listing on yelp several months ago, and so we all agreed to try it out. We found the prices to be very reasonable too (compared to other Houston area BBQ restaurants), so this ended up being a great place to stop in for lunch. Upon walking in, we lucked out and came at a perfect time with only one other lunch time customer. We noticed the smell of the interior which is hard to describe. Maybe like a doctors office smell? We joked around and thought the tenant space may have been an emergency clinic in its past life. After we ordered at the counter and sat down, a group of 8 walks in, so it suddenly got busier. They have daily specials and also a sandwich special with side for $6.20, but I didn't want one of the chicken specials for a Tuesday and I didn't really want a side. I went straight for the meat. Their beverages are bottled for the most part and within a cooler behind the register. If you want water, they'll likely give you bottled water. I ordered the smoked spud with sausage ($7), a small chopped brisket sandwich ($3.99) and a root beer (20 oz bottle of A&W). Total damage was almost $14. Since I was only able to finish the potato, I took the sandwich home and enjoyed it for dinner. Spud - regularly priced at $4.75, add a meat for $2.25. This potato fills the to-go box, even though we told them we were dining in. It has plenty of cheese, melted butter, chives and of course several sliced links of homemade sausage. I'm a sucker for homemade links. I gave one link to my colleague and he claimed that he liked Pappa's sausage better, but what does he know about food. Chopped Brisket sandwich - since I ordered the filling potato I opted for the small sandwich, but they also offer a large and a jumbo for a few dollars more. Brisket was chopped at the time of order and placed within the bun directly. I love how they serve the sauce on the side. This is the better way to prepare and eat a chopped beef sandwich. Many chopped beef sandwiches you buy at restaurants are premade, soaking in bbq sauce for who knows how long and it seems you are eating more sauce than actual meat. Not here! They pack plenty of meat on that small bun. I can't imagine how big the Jumbo is. My only complaint is that it didn't come with onions, pickles or jalapenos as with many BBQ restaurants here in Texas. You may have to ask for those separately since the owners are from Tennessee. Definitely a good place to stop if you're in (or just passing through) the Meyerland area. I will be back. read more

***UPDATE*** I think I was too critical in my original post and have been meaning to edit it. I hate giving harsh reviews, especially for local, family-run businesses. Also, the owners contacted me and answered some concerns I had. Thinking back, the meatiness of the pork and the quality of the pork were very good. The smoke flavor was a bit weak, which is okay with me because sometimes the Texas smoke is overpowering. But it did remind me of a pork that my friend smoked for me in his backyard for several hours. Which means it was very good, but I wanted something more to separate it from what my friend can make at home. My issue with the cole slaw may have stemmed with the dressing sinking to the bottom, but I still stand by the suggestion for improvement there. I would like to return and try the brisket and beans; those are likely their stronger offerings. ***original post*** I feel bad giving this place a 3/5 but I have to be honest, all the good reviews probably made me expect too much. I came here for lunch today. The menu, which I had perused beforehand online, showed pretty good prices and a good selection. You have your BBQ plates, sandwiches, sides, and potatoes, and also Southern desserts. The menu was designed very nice as well, which when combined with previous good reviews of this place, made me expect a nice, BBQ-looking interior, at least like Rudy's BBQ. I ordered the lunch sandwich special, which is a large sandwich and a side for $6.25+tax. I got the pulled pork with the slaw side and spicy BBQ sauce. I asked for a cup of water, but sadly they only sell bottled drinks. As I sat down and waited, only one other gentleman came in but they did get a few phone orders. I didn't sit and wait that long, but it did seem to take a bit of time for them to put the sandwich together, despite being one of two people there. The sandwich was very large! I cut it in half and ate it with the slaw. The pulled pork was good in that it tasted like real pork and there was not too much fatty parts. It was all the good part of the meat. You could really taste all the natural flavor of the pork. But the smoke and BBQ flavor was just not prominent enough. It reminded me of some homemade smoked pulled pork that could have used a few more hours with the smoke. The "spicy" BBQ was a bit spicy, but not as spicy as I had expected. The BBQ sauce also did not really add much flavor-wise. But I suppose it was good that they didn't smother the pork in the BBQ sauce so you could really taste and assess the smoked meat. But I'm a saucy person and could have used some more. The slaw was disappointing. The slaw did not have enough vinegar kick to add anything to the sandwich except a cool refresher in between bites of meat. I think the use of more vinegar or a squeeze of lemon in the vinegar, and the use of cabbage would have elevated the slaw to something you'd want to eat. The amount of food is very generous for the price. I ate the sandwich and side for two meals and realized how much meat is on the sandwich. Upon reheating and eating my sandwich, I could appreciate the natural pork flavor which puts on the fence about whether I like this place or not. So, I'm in the middle. It's generous and meaty and uses good meat, but the sides, sauce, and interior are lacking. Perhaps I will have to try the brisket and beans next time; maybe those are there strong points? read more
