Today was horrible! I'm not sure if the main cook was on vacation but my food had NO taste. Just bland the one rib was dry and no flavor , brisket was moist but no flavor or seasoning on the bark. 6-27-2024 Today I drove thru the drive thru at Demeris BBQ Mr. Dalton waited on me he was very courteous and polite in taking my order. I ordered a 1/2 bake potato with meat so delicious, fresh and hot this a five star location for great bbq and service. So happy to see Mr. Ruben has been this establishment a very long time when it was across the highway behind the northwest mall. I drive a 30 mile trip up and back to eat here! Fighting the traffic on Hwy 59 to 610 North and all of that Galleria area traffic too! Love the fresh cut fries right out of their basket and my poboy barbecue sandwich! They fix it fast and hot and you get your own drink and they have a nice choice of free condiments! Cashier was great, food was prompt and prepared correctly, and it was quite affordable for us both to eat. However, the food was extremely bland, Sausage and brisket, the brisket was super dry, neither had a hint of smokiness and no flavor and The homemade bbq sauce, again, no hint of smokiness or wow factor. I had the spare rib plate (baked beans & tater salad) and my wife a sliced beef sandwich and fries. Everything was on point today. Big difference from our last visit! I'm really disappointed with the smoked Turkey and gravy I ordered for our family dinner. We followed the thawing and baking instructions as stated. We let the turkey set for 15 minutes. I have a love hate relationship with this place. Meaning, I've eaten some fantastic meals and I've ate some bland meals. I absolutely love the cheeseburger and fries. Pound for pound imo I think it's the best burger in the city. I also love the stuffed baked potato usually topped with some chopped beef brisket. The ribs are really good and so are the poboys. And for a bbq joint this place has great fries. However, the brisket I don't think is up to par. I've eaten there so much over the years some employees know my face, which is nice. So our company orders some food from here for our appreciation week and we decided to go with the brisket and a few sides and let me tell you, I had better brisket in Florida .... The brisket was warm but there was like no real flavor it seemed like some steamed brisket finished on the pit..... I could make better on the Weber grill in the back yard..... anywho the sides were pretty decent the Mac and cheese was pretty good, the sausage was really the star of the show, it's good premium sausage for sure but the brisket was a let down, make some real brisket and add both the lean and fatty parts of the brisket...... this was an order out so I can't speak about how the restaurant was or how packed it was. Really great food my boyfriend and I got here! We ordered online using the toast tab site linked online. We were able to pick up using their curbside service in 20 minutes! The lady who took my order was super sweet and just having someone be nice on the other end can make lunch an even better one!! The cashier stated they were canned but the Mexican style bean were homemade in house. Always wanted to stop by and try this place because it is very close to where I stay. But after trying their dish I have to say that the chicken was overcooked, dry and very bland. The beans and coleslaw were good. Management needs to rethink their seasoning recipe and cooking time because the chicken does not have any flavor so I can only comment on the chicken because I didn't try any other types of meat. This branch of Demeris BBQ was within walking distance of my lodging in Houston, so I paid it a visit before heading to the airport for a fulfilling lunch. Ordering is done at a counter. As you approach, the menu items are plainly posted. At the counter, I was warmly greeted by a cheerful older woman whose Texas drawl and referring to me as "hon" warmed my heart. On this Wednesday, there was a great value in the 2 meat/2 side lunch special. I had the brisket and pulled pork with Mac n' cheese and coleslaw. None of the items were extraordinary, nor were they bad...just a solid base hit up the middle. I DID enjoy my icy cold Lone Star longneck beer because what's a trip to Texas if you don't have that. We opted to eat outside as it was a cool afternoon, but be forewarned that it's noisy as the restaurant is located next to the confluence of 2 major expressways.
