We traveled to Houston for a family wedding and were looking for places to eat. We have a sick family member who can't eat sugar, which finding somewhere to eat especially a bbq place can be impossible. I called ahead of time to ask questions about food preparation and Lucas was so kind and patient and answered every question as best he could for me. We got to the restaurant and I was still feeling nervous and I must have gone up to the register more than a handful of times to ask all kinds of different questions. The staff never made me feel bad about it at all. They found out the answers as best they could for me and they were so patient and kind no matter how many times I went up. I don't know the other names but i wanted to call out the shift supervisor Lucas specifically, especially since they referred to him with most of the questions. He never faltered and never lost patience with me and was so kind the whole time. I had to call the manager the next day to give my thanks and compliments, I am so grateful with how they treated me no matter how neurotic I was and how many times I went up to ask questions. The food also was very good! The portions were big, and cooked well. We enjoyed our time. Everyone was so kind, the 2 ladies at the register were so sweet. Please give Lucas a raise or a promotion or some sort of recognition. In the world nowadays especially where I'm from on the east coast people don't treat each other with the kindness he exuded. You have a diamond in Lucas! Thankyou again! read more

I almost only leave positive reviews but I'm going to break that habit today. My first time here and I truly think it's the last. Too many great BBQ places in Houston to eat this overcooked food. We ordered the baby back ribs, brisket, sausage, beans, slaw and order of onion rings. The onion rings were so overcooked that 20 seconds more in the fryer they would've been burnt. The onion part was cooked well but the breading didn't have much flavor at all. The beans seemed almost like that were right out of the can and tasted bland by any standards. The slaw passed the taste test but not exactly earth shattering. Just your cabbage, carrot and a light creamy dressing. The Meats- The baby back ribs bark was so dry and tough we had to cut if off. The meat under it didn't have your typical bbq flavor. The brisket was tender but again lacked flavor. The sausage was the best thing on the plate. The meat must shine if you call yourself a bbq restaurant. This place does not earn that title. read more

Long before the "Cult followed" BBQ spots, where you stand in line for hours, we had places like Demeris. Always good, consistent and fast delivery- Demeris doesn't disappoint. Ribs are good, sticky - in the right way. Brisket is choice and in my selection chopped for the sandwich. Great. Don't overlook the OG's when thinking BBQ. They've been there and will still be when the others flash by. read more

look....I'm all ABOUT supporting local businesses, ESPECIALLY with the way the economy is right now- but when I go to a place to SUPPORT them- and then get an attitude from the young mexican chick named 'Eliza T'- working the drive-thru window-simply because i asked for extra bbq sauce- for my brisket I'm paying almost DOUBLE for, in which I would have GLADLY paid extra- if there were a charge... -yeah....& no......people like her are why businesses like yours will continue to go out of business.....the entitlement HAS to go!!!! I'll go elsewhere the next time I want bbq- until your employees get an attitude adjustment.... read more

Amazing food, fast service and a houston staple. Hard to beat their chopped beef potato (extra condiments), sliced beef sandwich, salads and fries. Been coming here since i was born, and look forward to many more years of meals. read more

We have been visiting Demeris for 46 years! Always consistent and fantastic. For the best of both worlds, order to Po Boy combination beef and link! The chef salads with chopped beef are also excellent. Keep up the great tradition! read more

I love their brisket. I like to get my sauce drop a few(5-6) sliced jalapeños in it. Then dunk my sliced brisket through it. Get a chunk of the meat with that awesome sauce and a slice of jal-a-peno on my fork and yummm that's my Zel-heaven bite. Damn that's Good!!! Then I love the potato salad on a saltine cracker. Mmm read more

Ordered a baked potato with chopped beef last night. I have been enjoying this meal here for over 30 years and was disappointed for the first time. The quality of the meat seemed to have declined. It was more like chopped hamburger than chopped brisket. On top of that it had increased in price. read more

Troubling experience at Demeris. Tried for the first time in ages because a photo popped up in my socials showing a cheeseburger and onion ring that looked good. West Loop location is only 7-8 minutes from my office, so stopped in for lunch. The burger in question turns out to be their flagship "Hoffy Burger," a burger with cheddar cheese, bacon and an onion ring on top. With fries and a soda, the meal came to around $23. I ordered it cooked medium well with no vegetables. The burger was served to me with no bacon, no onion ring, and with lettuce and tomato on top. I carried back up to the counter, thinking that I had someone else's order. The kitchen took it back and I heard the man who seemed to be in charge say (in Spanish, but I speak enough to get by) say to the line cook that it should have no vegetables. Here is where I lost all faith in this place. The same guy came back to my table with another basket, saying "Sorry, my friend." But although the burger now had the bacon and onion ring, it still had vegetables on it. Worse, the fries were entirely over-cooked to the point I thought, "Surely they didn't drop the same fries back into the fryer!" Nothing had any taste - not the onion, not the fries. The patty had a smoke flavor, but was on the tough side of chewy. Not sure if this was a frozen or fresh patty, but definitely not a hand-packed "brisket trimmings" burger like I've read you can get. Left a significant number of over-done fries in the basket. 10 seconds down the road is an Applebee''s that serves a delicious juicy burger on an iron skillet drenched with queso. Meal runs about $15. I will not be eating Demeris again after this experience. Oddest of all - although they are trading on being a Houston tradition, they even have "Shepherd" misspelled on their cups. Like no one has their eye on the ball here. read more

Demeris Bar-B-Q - 2 meat - Barbeque Near Me - Houston, Texas

Disappointed today. Drove in from Conroe. Laughed with the crew I've been coming over 50 years. Even when living away for 20 years, they were my first stop from the airport. Today, the sauce was thick and sweet, and not at all what I have been served for so long. They responded that this has always been their regular sauce and I should have asked for the pork sauce. I don't think so... what's the chances I have been served their #2 sauce for over 50 years? Do better Demeris! read more

Very friendly and welcoming, but like everything else, you don't get as much meat as you used to. I had the sliced beef sandwich. The flavor was good and the barbecue sauce was very good. It needed about 2 to 3 more slices of meat for the bun. I had extra bread. I had not been here in a couple years. My friend had the loaded baked potato with beef brisket. It had a lot of meat on it, and it was very good she said. read more

The only reason I can't give a five star is because I haven't tried the food. Other than that, I would love it.Come in and try the food.Maybe do a full review , but at the moment I was picking up for a customer of mine , bridget was very nice , made the order and was very enthusiastic to hand it to me. I also ask what's the most recommended dish. They said the baby back ribs. The ambiance there I could tell there's a lot of people that come in there for barbecue. But there's a lot of space , and they also have an outside patio read more

Food is always fresh--prepared right in front of you after you order. Orders always correct, which is rare these days. And the service is impeccable, especially the man who works in the dining area. It's a great Houston bbq tradition. And the salads are great too. Take it from someone who's loved Demeris for many years! read more

Today was horrible! I'm not sure if the main cook was on vacation but my food had NO taste. Just bland the one rib was dry and no flavor , brisket was moist but no flavor or seasoning on the bark. I got the jalapeño sausage again no flavor.! Very disappointed! I spent 22.00 on nursing home food . If there was a zero stars, they would get a zero star today.! read more

Always come here when I am in Houston, even if out of my way. Get the 3-meat meal each time.

Haven't been to a Demeris BBQ in years and never to this location off the 610 loop. They have been around Houston since 1964. I used to eat at Demeris during my teenage years when they were in Town & Country Village back in late 1960's and early 1970's and on South Shepherd Dr. a bit later. Soooo good It is hard to find this location I am at on the 1702 West Loop North. I drove in circles for about 10 minutes but I got here. read more

6-27-2024 Today I drove thru the drive thru at Demeris BBQ Mr. Dalton waited on me he was very courteous and polite in taking my order. I ordered a 1/2 bake potato with meat so delicious, fresh and hot this a five star location for great bbq and service. So happy to see Mr. Ruben has been this establishment a very long time when it was across the highway behind the northwest mall. He still there & gives great service chopping up that beef and putting it on that potato also on sandwiches thanks again to all the staff and those that makes this place great. I drive a 30 mile trip up and back to eat here! Fighting the traffic on Hwy 59 to 610 North and all of that Galleria area traffic too! Love the fresh cut fries right out of their basket and my poboy barbecue sandwich! They fix it fast and hot and you get your own drink and they have a nice choice of free condiments! I was happy because I even saw Dan Pastorini , the ex-Houston Oilers quarterback walked in to enjoy their barbecue! JUST WISH THEY WOULD OPEN ANOTHER RESTAURANT LIKE THIS ONE IN STAFFORD OR SUGARLAND! There's none around anymore! read more

Cashier was great, food was prompt and prepared correctly, and it was quite affordable for us both to eat. However, the food was extremely bland, Sausage and brisket, the brisket was super dry, neither had a hint of smokiness and no flavor and The homemade bbq sauce, again, no hint of smokiness or wow factor. I'm not the kind who enjoys spicy food, so when I say bland, think, no salt and pepper, garlic powder...something! I do love, and firmly believe that most every dish needs a proper amount of complimentary seasoning to bring out the real flavors. read more

11-12-25 Well after 10 months my wife and I decided to give it another try. To be honest we were going to Whataburger and smelled the sweet smoke coming from Demeris. The food was not fresh or hot. There's no seasoning to the food at all. The bbq sauce tasted as if it was bought from HEB. The potato salad was so sweet and bland with no seasoning. Stopped by here on a whim a month or two ago! I'm so happy I did! It seems like it's a newer establishment and the inside was really clean and well lit up. I have a love hate relationship with this place. Meaning, I've eaten some fantastic meals and I've ate some bland meals. I absolutely love the cheeseburger and fries. Pound for pound imo I think it's the best burger in the city. I also love the stuffed baked potato usually topped with some chopped beef brisket. The ribs are really good and so are the poboys. And for a bbq joint this place has great fries. However, the brisket I don't think is up to par. I've eaten there so much over the years some employees know my face, which is nice. I also like the look of the restaurant, it's very homey and inviting. read more

I'm really disappointed with the smoked Turkey and gravy I ordered for our family dinner. We followed the thawing and baking instructions as stated. We let the turkey set for 15 minutes. The white and dark meat was so dry. A portion of the thigh meat was bloody and not smoked thoroughly!! We had to throw that part of the turkey out. The turkey gravy was meh!! No flavor!! Again, I'm so disappointed especially for the price of the turkey and gravy!! read more

So our company orders some food from here for our appreciation week and we decided to go with the brisket and a few sides and let me tell you, I had better brisket in Florida .... The brisket was warm but there was like no real flavor it seemed like some steamed brisket finished on the pit..... I could make better on the Weber grill in the back yard..... anywho the sides were pretty decent the Mac and cheese was pretty good, the sausage was really the star of the show, it's good premium sausage for sure but the brisket was a let down, make some real brisket and add both the lean and fatty parts of the brisket...... this was an order out so I can't speak about how the restaurant was or how packed it was. Anywho we are trying papas today I have had many good experiences there.... Favorite item would be the Rib Trio!!!! The only thing everyone did love was the sweet tea from demeris other than that they need some new pitmasters! read more

The service was ok. The girl at the register was sweet, but not knowledgeable about the food. The brisket was covered with sauce and still had absolutely no flavor. The sausage was cold and was store bought. The only good thing was the green beans and Mac n cheese was a 2.5/5. Would not recommend this place. It was a higher end cafeteria food quality. Brisket should have and not need sauce... this brisket was moist but had absolutely NO FLAVOR! read more
