Unfortunately, I have to agree with some of the other recent reviews, I was pretty disappointed. Firstly, this isn't a great place to get an individual meal, the sandwiches are really your only option and it doesn't come with any sides. In fact, my chopped brisket "sandwich" was a small container full of meat and 2 slices of white bread stuck on top. I will say that it was enough meat for 2 sandwiches, but it wasn't very flavorful so that kind of defeated the point. The other options are big portions of meat that you would split with a family, and seemed a little expensive to me. I am a Burns BBQ devotee, with Bud's Meat Market on Cullen coming in a close second. I decided to give Ike's a try after reading a suggestion in an FB group. My first time, I spent $63 on various items, Sliced beef, ribs, sausage, chicken and boudain. I literally threw most of it away, no taste, poor cuts. Why the 3 stars? Because I voiced my displeasure on FB, the owner reached out and I went back recently and it was pretty solid the second time around. The food was ok but the service was worst. The cook is messing up orders and getting frustrated with the young lady taking orders but he still has time to box with a friend outside of the truck. The young lady taking the orders was clearly frustrated and at her wits end and it showed in her service. I had never eaten at this truck before and felt as if I was prying for information when ordering. No matter the time of day, greet your customers and treat them with kindness. We love any excuse to visit Ike's BBQ. The location is 30+ minutes from home (depending on traffic it can be more like 45) but we will make the trip in a heartbeat. TBH we have never arrived before 9 PM and the food is piping hot. The food is delicious. My car will smell like Ike's for days. I like to try different BBQ places and I saw this one on the side of the road while I was driving for work (it's a food truck) and decided to give it a try. I just get brisket when I go places because I love brisket and I love trying different spot's brisket. This brisket was not that good. Don't get me wrong- it's brisket. Solid BBQ. Extremely far from where we live, but definitely appreciate that they're open until 2/4am. We were confused trying to navigate there, GPS will take you to a gas station. You actually need to drive past that gas station and it's off of the next street on the right. Good customer service and quick! A bit stingy with the sauce though, but ample meat is given. I do NOT get the great reviews. Brisket was a bit smoky but definitely could use more smoke flavor. It was dry and over cooked. Ribs were moist and spoiled. The skin was damn near slick with skin having a wet like texture. They had no smoke flavor and definitely weren't fresh. They tasted like they were boiled or baked and then put on the pit for a brief moment and left out to spoil. I was disappointed by that bc I saw what I thought was a smoking pit and fresh wood being added. I don't understand why you would serve old food?? Unfortunately, I can't go back to try a sandwich bc it's meat with two pieces of bread on top. It's really hard to find consistently fresh, smoky, and tender bbq. I'm a brisket head and bbq is too expensive for this hit or miss ish. Ugh! Back to hibernation I go. We frequently see this BBQ stand on our way to Aldi on OST. We finally had a chance to stop and try it out. I've come to Ike's many times for BBQ for lunch I'm a utility worker so I'm all over the area when I discovered this place fell in love started coming here a lot. It has a stove and a very small smoker in it that looks like it has never been used. The potato salad was straight out of HEB and the beans straight from a Bush's can. I love the BBQ here. I am from Wisconsin and I don't too much care for the smoky taste but in Texas there is no other options. However their food didn't taste like a pit at all.
