Came to Tacos Tierra Caliente tonight for a quick late-night taco run and it absolutely hit the spot. We ordered two steak tacos with cilantro, onions, and avocado, one chicken taco with cilantro and onions, and two small beef quesadillas -- and it was the perfect amount of food. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a taco truck. The steak was tender and well-seasoned, and the quesadillas were simple but so satisfying. Service was quick, and the guy working in the truck was super friendly. Honestly, some of the best tacos I've had in the city. Definitely will be back again. read more

If you like the quesadillas at Taconazo, you'll like them here. My buddy took me here after a Rockets game. We wanted Taconazo, but we didn't have any cash on us. Luckily, this spot takes both card and cash! I got the small beef quesadilla, and it was loaded with cheese. The small quesadilla was $5.50, and it was pretty decently sized for a small. They have salsa set out at the counter, so you can pack as much as you like. The red salsa was smoky and SPICY. Very tasty if you like spice I see a lot of great reviews about this place. Tacos Tierra Caliente has to be one of the best taco trucks in town. It especially hits after having a drink or two at some of the nearby watering holes. Taco trucks used to be super budget friendly but just like everything else, prices are a bit inflated for a taco. That being said it's still budget friendly at around 2.50 a taco. They do not skimp on the meat either. For the most part I have either had it delivered to me at work or at friend's houses. It travels well and can sit for a minute and still be good. Their menu is small. You have tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and burritos. With that you have meat options like beef fajita, barbacoa, trompo (beef), pastor (pork w/pineapple), and chicharron (pork skin). My usual go to proteins are the beef fajita and pastor but I recently tried the chicken and it was tasty too. The fajita is my favorite. The pastor would be the best if it weren't for the pineapple. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious, but I am not always in the mood for sweet and savory. They should have an option for both ways. Topped with fresh onions and cilantro and one of their tasty, spicy salsa, it's one of the better tacos around. When in the area, Tacos Tierra Caliente will always be one of my go to spots for a quick, cheap bite. I will be back. read more

WOOH! I am so glad that I stopped by while I was across the street. I was so hungry and saw that this food truck was open and that the menu was quite appetizing. The woman at the counter was friendly and took my order. I got the pork quesadillas and they were out of this world! First of all, they were so big and while well marinated, we're not spicy which I very much appreciated. The cheesiness was well matched by the pork flavor and I had plenty left for my next meal! read more

This taco truck is terrific with great prices! I got a large pastor quesadilla for $8.58, and it was delicious. It was so greasy and messy, but sooo good. They don't have picnic tables to sit and eat. They added a bit of a card fee, as I would expect, but they didn't ask for a tip, which I was really pleasantly surprised by. They are located in the parking lot of a convenience store, and all the spots were full when I came, so I parked nearby on the street. The employee was nice and pointed out to me that I could fill my own sauces. read more

Possibly the best value taco place in the 610 loop. Barbacoa is dark and fatty like I prefer. Lime given with every order. Salsa that varies from mild to scorching hot. Burritos are a great value, come hungry. You can bring your food into West Alabama Ice House. read more

I've been wanting to try this taco spot and happened to be in the area so I popped in! I got the barbacoa and pastor and the barbacoa was sooooooo good! I also enjoyed the pastor and I know it came with pineapple so I was interested to see how that would taste, it was very flavorful but in general I could do without the pineapple. Def one of the top taco spots I've tried in Houston. The service was fast and took less than 10 minutes to receive my food. read more

I don't usually eat at food trucks, but boy have I been missing out! The tacos at Tacos Tierra Caliente are so full with flavor and taste much more authentic than tacos you'd get at a chain restaurant. I ordered one flour taco al pastor and one flour taco with pollo. It was my first time trying al pastor, and I loved it! The tacos are on the smaller side, but they're generously filled. Honestly, I could've gone for a third taco just because of how good they were. They accept cards, but there's a small convenience fee. There's a little parking lot shared with a convenience store. There's also street parking available. Overall, I loved the tacos here and will definitely be coming back for more! read more

Real enthusiasts will tell you that the best authentic tacos are served at food trucks in the most unassuming places. But where are those trucks? Well, here's one. Blink on West Alabama Street and you miss it; it's located on a small lot next to your typical convenience store and a laundromat. When it comes to Mexican food trucks, I default to the al pastor tacos since they have never failed me. However, the fajita and chicharron (this is a thing??) tacos hold their own just fine as well. Do yourself and a favor and order several since each individual taco is probably smaller than you're expecting. They're only $2.50 for a reason! I recommend testing the hot sauce first, since it has a spicy kick that's stronger than most food trucks I've been to. You'll find customers of all backgrounds and ethnicities placing orders here on any given night. I swear, there's nothing like some good street tacos made by an honest small business to unite a community as diverse as Houston's. If my cousin from China is telling me that this is his go-to place for food near UH, you better believe there's some truth to that. read more

All you need to know is the tacos are delicious. These are the best tacos I've had since I've lived in Houston the last 2 1/2 years. Cards are additional fee so if you can bring cash. Each time Ive been here the service has been fast and consistent. This is a food truck located in the parking lot of a store. Food smelled so good, I didn't make it out of the parking lot. Great spot for delicious and inexpensive tacos. My favorite here is the barbacoa - very tender and juicy! They also serve lengua and other great taco meats. Tacos go great with a drink from the ice house across the street. Definitely give this place a try for some legit tacos in the center of Houston. Parking can be tough and it was cash only last time I went. Service is fast and it's pretty authentic. Located in a parking lot in front of a Laundromat so humble environs for sure. read more

Decent tacos, but the reality is that the food has to be prepared in batches and not as ordered. For example, the potato and egg are batched prepared unlike other food trucks where it's custom made. Chorizo taco was interesting from the standpoint it had peppers and onions as opposed to just the chorizo and eggs. Not bad for the price, but not the best. Oh, and don't ask for refried beans coz they don't have any and will chastise you for asking! read more

Love this place! I've given them so much of my hard earned money. There was a time, I was coming here weekly. I am paying for it now-after going taco crazy. However, I took their rudeness and even though I went weekly they never smiled. Haha. Anyway, I have stopped going because I am losing weight and also the meat is kinda crispy now? Ordered 10 beef fajita tacos w/ cilantro & onion , 5 on corn/ 5 on flour . All of them were delicious and packed with meat. Hooked us up with limes and hot sauce. My only criticism is the hot sauce was not hot, neither the green nor the red were spicy. It won't take the place of my favorite taco truck but if I'm in the area I would come back here. read more

When I went to school in UH I would always visit this spot to get some tasty tacos. The flavor on the meat is just right and tender. The sauce is so spicy and savory. Visited Tacos Tierra Caliente for the first time for a quick bite for lunch. I had heard great things about the taco truck parked on W Alabama St. The tacos were very reasonably priced at ~$2.50 each (please note they're fairly small tacos so you would need at-least 2 per person). I ordered a chicharron and pastor taco and it took only around 4 minutes for the food to be ready. I requested no cilantro and the tacos I got were topped with cilantro. I notified the staff and they were very polite and kindly remade the order. They actually gave me 3 tacos instead of 2 because of the hassle which was super nice and not expected. The tacos were delicious and full of flavor, 10/10 overall the staff and food are solid, would recommend. read more

Nut allergy friendly, I never even ask. I don't know how I haven't left a review for this fantastic taco truck yet. I've been going here for years, whether it's bringing someone from out of town for authentic tacos or grabbing a PBR at West Alabama Ice House with some tacos. Absolutely amazing tacos!! Every time I've come to Houston I've gotten these tacos and they're so worth it. Service is pretty fast once you order and while you wait you can fill up some self-serve cups of salsas to go. The salsa Verde is my recommendation but both are good. I got the fajita, barbacoa, and trompo tacos and they were all great. All of them had a great flavor and appealed in different ways. I think I would get them all again next time as well! I thought the tacos were surprisingly big for the cost too. Love it and will come back for sure. read more

During Memorial Weekend, we wanted to get some authentic tacos! This taco truck is located right by the West Alabama Ice House. Easy to order. Tacos are $2.50 and they are QUICK with getting you your order. It's a cash only establishment. Tacos are great, small, but worth it. Our go to tacos are barbacoa and pastor on corn tortillas! We came here on a Saturday evening after visiting Buffalo Bayou Park. I wanted to order the Barbacoa taco, but they were already out (~6:30pm). Lengua (my favorite) was also not on the menu :(. I ended up ordering the Chicharron (pork skin) and Trompo (pork) tacos ($2.50 each; cash only). In addition to the protein, you also get to choose the type of tortilla. I got one flour and one corn. I enjoyed the flour tortilla much more than the corn; it was heftier and more sturdy for the taco. The tacos are served with the typical cilantro and onions. They also offer quesadillas and tortas. My friend ordered a quesadilla which was amazingly cheeeeeesy and stuffed with meat. I would get this next time. They do have a breakfast tacos menu, but these are only served in the morning/early afternoon hours (go figure). The tacos were prepared quickly, and they have a slew of sauces to choose from on the side. Word on the street is that these sauces are spicy, so I did not partake. Since it's a food truck, the tacos were wrapped in foil and handed to you in a bag to go. The bag had napkins and a lime wedge, a welcome addition to brighten the flavor of the tacos. I enjoyed the flavor of the trompo taco, but the chicharron taco was a miss for me. I was hoping for a crispy chicharron like a pork rind, but it was just chewy and soggy instead. I would not order the chicharron again. But overall, Tacos Tierra Caliente is a great choice for a quick and cheap eat in Houston. read more

I ordered a fajita flour taco & a pastor flour taco. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the pastor. The tortilla was soft and the meats were both moist and full of flavor. The hot sauces were both really flavorful and unique. The food came about three minutes after ordering. I was very impressed with their speed considering the food was so good. I also ordered a barbacoa tortas and it was HUGE! It was all definitely too much food for me -- I could've stopped after 2-3 tacos. I have never had anything bad to eat here. Typically, crowds have been an issue (as in too many) but not on an early Friday evening, which was perfect. The salsas are always absolutely on point. Easy to miss this small taco truck which is situated just right off a corner of a convenience store. Parking may be a challenge but street parking should be fairly easy to find if you avoid the lunch rush. I tried the Pastor and Fajita tacos. The Pastor was really tasty, I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the Fajita was a little dry. Tacos are pretty small but for $2.50 each, you can't beat a cheap taco. They accept card or cash. read more

This is the best taco truck we have tried in Houston. I will stand by this until proven otherwise. We go every other week at this point. I recommend chicharron, trompo, and al pastor tacos! The al pastor is my favorite because it has grilled pineapple in it. Their salsas are not to be messed with. The red one will make you regret your choices. The green one has a more subdued kick. My husband loves their tortas, al pastor is also his favorite here. We love this place! :) read more

Really solid tacos at a fair price. $2.50 per taco - I got a few carne Asada and a few Al pastor - both the flour and corn was great. Worthy of a visit on its own but I also noticed a lot of people at the bar across the street grabbing food then heading back inside. Not quite 5 star worthy (I'd consider my taco standards a bit higher than normal) as the carne Asada left a bit to be desired - but the Al pastor was delicious with a generous helping of pineapple included. read more

Upon seeing the storefront when we pulled into the parking lot, my first thought was, "Okay, this is legit Mexican, not Tex-Mex." The interior is quite small with some tables and an ample late Saturday afternoon crowd. What caught my eye is how the environment is what you might expect to find at a family-run taqueria off the beaten path. Rock en Español blaring from the sound system. Colorful papel picado draped from the ceiling. A framed Mexican flag and several references to the central Mexican municipality of Guanajuato. The intoxicating smell of spice-laced grilled beef wafting through the air. Simply put, we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. I glanced at the menu. There are numerous, delicious-sounding items that happen to be wallet-friendly, a bit cheaper than if you were to go to Gringos or Jimmy Changas. According to a mutual, the tacos here are the main draw, but what really caught my attention and appetite was the ramen birria. Mujeres y caballeros (ladies and gentlemen), let me proclaim that Tacos Doña Lena turns a noodle dish with origins in Japan and is a known staple in college dorm rooms into a must-try on this part of America's fourth-largest city. Two amazing food cultures unite for a fiery meeting of the minds. Anchored by a rich, tasty consomé that's spicy but not enough to where you need to drink multiple glasses of water, there's a prime mix of ramen noodle, beef birria, cheese, fried egg, rabanos, garbazo, and corn accompanied by cilantro, onions, and a pair of fried tostadas. I was so impressed with how the contents of the ramen blended together. Since it was ramen after all despite the south of the border touchup, I still ate it the traditional way: pick up the noodles and sip the soup. I recently visited Taco Tierra Caliente after hearing great things about their tacos, but I have to say I left feeling a bit disappointed. With cravings for delicious tacos, I was excited to try this place based on its glowing reviews. However, my experience didn't quite live up to the hype. I started with the fajitas, which unfortunately turned out to be salty and dry. It felt like they might have missed the mark that day, as I've seen other patrons rave about them. Additionally, I was taken aback by the sauce--it had a noticeable kick that was a bit overwhelming for my taste. I also ordered a quesadilla, hoping for a different experience, but it followed the same standard as the fajitas. Overall, it just didn't hit the spot for me. While I'll give Taco Tierra Caliente another chance based on its reputation, my first visit was not what I expected. Maybe I caught them on an off day. Best Taco Truck in Houston! I wish I could eat here everyday! I used to walk from my apartment on Saturday mornings to eat breakfast here when they held down the spot on Montrose. But according to VIcente, the owner, higher rent forced a temporary move to Washington Ave, between Shepherd & Yale. He hopes to move back to Montrose sometime soon, but Wash Ave is his new home for now. I love the barbacoa tacos with cilantro and both green and red salsa. Sprinkle with a little lime juice and you have a perfect taco! The fajita is always juicy and a bit crispy (yum!). I ask for a slice of avocado with my taco, which is also fresh each time. Today I tried the pastor and pollo tacos, which were also excellent. A cold Jarritos or Mexican coke adds a refreshing complement to the TTC experience! Vincente says he and his truck are available for events, art shows, and private parties. read more

I have lived in the inner loop / Bellaire area of Houston for 40 years. To say that I've eaten at my share of taco stands would be a gross understatement. While there is something personal and gratifying about each encounter with a taco truck, Tierra Cliente is the best there is. Located in the Big 10 tire store parking lot on Montrose, they are tucked away in the back corner under the edge of a shade tree. The tacos are assembled quickly, but are FULL of extremely fresh ingredients. We particularly like the barbacoa and fajita tacos - usually ordered by the dozen! They use great veggies, the tacos are always scorching hot and they offer Mexican Coca-Cola in the bottle. If you're ever wandering around the Montrose area during lunch, you'd be well-served to stop by and grab a few tacos and a Coke. I'll bet if you do that once, you'll be back again. read more

However, the other foods were too hungry to eat before I could take a picture. - There was an appetizer bread but the bread was cold and not hot. - Super delicious Spagetti crab. Slightly fat, so whoever can't eat fat cream form should consider it! - Pumpkin Soup I went to many places to eat but here it is still the best and it doesn't get loose. - I ordered 1 beef steak in cream sauce and 1 beef in lague. Back then, I ate very well but now I can't go back to the dry steak, it makes me feel a little bit moody while other dishes are quite ok. I could not say enough how much I LOVE this taco truck/trailer. I would rather get tacos here than anywhere else in Houston. Corn or flour tacos, tortas & quesadillas with either chicken, fajita beef, pastor, lengua, or (my favorite) barbacoa. The tacos are served with cilantro and onion, & quesadillas with a TON of extra cheese. I always go ahead and ask them to add avocado to anything that I order. Both the green and red hot sauces are REALLY spicy too; they're not messing around. Semi-recently they started serving breakfast tacos too, also delicious! It never takes long to get your food from the time you order it, and they stay open relatively late. Perfect place to grab a bite and enjoy it on the patio next door with a beer. read more

This place is my go to deli every Saturday afternoon and each time I am served the best sandwich I have ever had. The ingredients are fresh and the service is unbeatable. Everyone is cheerful and you can tell that they really care about making your order. The first time I went to Little Jimmy's I ordered the gyro and I can definitely say it tops the list of the best gyros in Houston. The experience here is fun. You fill out a brown bag and check off a variety of toppings. The chicken salad with egg and the jalapeño bread are both perfectly made and the gyro comes with pita bread that is warm and fluffy. Everything here is incredibly fresh and the owner always remembers me and my husband. We will return again and again. read more

MARIA!!! Oh Maria. How I love you. Been coming to this place for years. The lady who owns it is from the same little Mexican town as my own mother so her cooking style really hits close to home. The prep is authentic. And her claim to fame are definetly her tacos al pastor. Fajita is mediocre at best but that's not really a popular dish in southern Mexico so I forgive her. Recently brought my mom to meet Maria and have some of her food, they hit it off and my mother loved it. Anytime my parents come visit me you can find us here. Anway stick to the al pastor and order it with light cheese and avocado. Oh and prices are cheap. You just can't go wrong. read more
