Used to really love The Taco Stand, but I've been unimpressed on the last couple of visits. I won't be back after my visit this morning. I ordered a breakfast taco with bacon - the bacon was not fully cooked. All of the pieces that ended up in my taco were white, definitely undercooked. I tried to call to get my money back, but the AI phone answering service wouldn't connect. When I made it back to the restaurant, there wasn't really anything done for the inconvenience or the concerning issue of undercooked meat. I received a refund, but was hoping there would be more concern with the issue. read more

The Taco Stand has a great location in the Heights, but unfortunately the tacos just don't really hold up to all the competition around it. This part of Shepherd is packed with taco options, with Velvet Taco across the street, Little Taco Shop down the road, Torchy's nearby, and plenty of taco trucks around the neighborhood. With that much competition, "meh" tacos just aren't really good enough, and that's how I'd describe the tacos here. I've tried the burritos too, and those are a little better, but still just okay. Everything else about the place is pretty solid. The staff has always been friendly, the service is quick, the menu is large, and the prices are reasonable. They also have a drive-through, a decent amount of parking, a small indoor dining area, and a nice outdoor patio. Just keep in mind that the inside is pretty small and the patio can get very hot during a Houston summer. I really want to like this place because the location and setup are great, but the food, especially the tacos, could use some improvement. With so many really good taco places nearby, I'd have a hard time choosing The Taco Stand over most of the other options in the area. read more

I have seen these spots popping up, and I was eager to finally give them a try. I'm a big Burger Joint fan, and knowing that the Taco Stand has the same owner I was optimistic This spot located in the Greater Heights is relatively new. There's a parking lot, but we went on the weekend, and while the interior didn't look overly full, it was somewhat difficult to find a parking spot. The restaurant itself is clean. Everything is pretty much green and white. There's covered patio seating. You order from a window and there's a large menu printed nearby The menu offers all sorts of tacos, meats, burritos, bowls, quesadillas, quesabirras, sides, and even kids meals. You can get beer, margaritas, and non-alcoholic drinks. There's also a breakfast menu The food was good, and it didn't take too long to come out. My main issue was the service. The individual taking orders seemed to have a bit of an attitude and just seemed "over it." Furthermore, we mentioned having a queso coupon and when we were given the total I placed my card on the reader and I was told that I did it too fast and the queso wasn't taken off. The odd thing was, we walked away and realized that they didn't add the queso and the coupon was for free queso so they could have just rung up an additional queso. This individual had the vibe of eye rolling everything, and it honestly left a bad taste in my mouth Some tips: You can order online to avoid any wait. Stopped by for some breakfast tacos around 8 am. Tacos were prepared quickly and they were good. Staff was nice. The salsa in particular was disappointing; it lacked any real flavor or spice, which is kind of the bare minimum for a good taco spot. I'm giving 3 stars because, honestly, the food is really good. I always get the chicken burrito, it's literally one of my favorite items on the menu, along with queso and chips. Delicious every time. However, the customer service at this location has been disappointing, especially compared to my visit yesterday. I ordered online both days, so all I needed to do was pick up my order at the window. Yesterday, the guy who handed me my food didn't greet me, no big deal, but he also didn't say thank you, have a nice day, or anything. I asked for sauce, and instead of grabbing it, he just pointed toward the door and closed the window. That was... wow. Okay, "thanks!" I came back today because, again, the food is that good. But now I see why maybe I shouldn't have. I stood at the pickup window for nearly two minutes, like seriously 2 minutes, with no acknowledgment. A lady came to the window, started preparing orders right in front of me, but didn't say a word. She looked at the screen, bagged items, and ignored me completely. Fantastic flavors all around. The chicken was well seasoned, and the fish was grilled nicely. It's impressive how much flavor they get from simple ingredients -- the cilantro added a really nice freshness. Amazing experience at The Taco Stand Heights! I've tried the Webster and now this location, and I can say the quality of the food and the recipes are consistent and I love that. The staff was amazing so welcoming, and service was quick and efficient. Great atmosphere on the patio. We tried the queso, it was so good! With crispy nachos. We also had their special which is a Gordita filled with carne asada, queso and beans, spectacular! Reminded me of a torta, but tortilla instead of bread. We also had the quesabirria which is my favorite item in their menu, great birria, melty cheese and crispy tortillas, it is a must. The carnitas were delicious! Oddly enough these people have taken over this portion of the heights. The food is alright, but is priced like you're getting the best taco you've ever had in your life. Stay far, far away from the Heights location. We just waited 45 minutes for our food - long enough for our buzzer to literally die. The quality has sunk even further since I've been here last. The barbacoa quesadilla was nearly inedible. Completely soggy and greasy. I imagine our food was sitting ready-to-go on the side for at least 10 minutes (due to our dead buzzer) before we checked on it for the 2nd time. At the very least, they could have called out the order number, as they knew we had checked on it recently rather than just let the food sit there and get cold. I refuse to give this location another try. Goodbye forever. On the other hand, the Montrose location has far better quality control. Tried this place out to catch up with some friend, the environment was nice especially for a friday night, they have tvs and were playing the astros game! The torta was very flavorful, specially paired with their jalapeño salsa. My friends tried the quesabirria which they enjoyed and we shared the chips and queso! I saw them on Uber Eats so I decided to give them a try cause I had to buy one get one free for quesadillas. They were OK. Not the best not the worst. I put the green sauce on them to give them some flavor. Very greasy. Not much flavor on the meat. Maybe I caught up on a bad day, but I wasn't really a fan of them. Probably gotta eat there and check out their other tacos or something because this meal was subpar at best. Why in the hell would they pack an order of a burrito, four tacos and salsas in one small, very thin paper bag while all the tacos are leaking juices??? I believe it has to do with the manager there. The staff are poorly trained and in a situation where they could've fixed our order they decided to be rude and slam the window shut in our faces. I'm back with an updated review. Stopped by on Christmas Day, night to be specific, and it was super busy ! Not much of a line outside but the drive thru was fairly long. Nonetheless, like before, I received great service. The man taking my order was very kind. I ordered 1 barbacoa taco and 1 grilled fish taco on flour tortillas. As expected, there was a bit of a wait. No big deal because the line was long and it was Christmas. This time around my food was delicious! Seasoned well and was super filling. The portions were pretty large as well. I was super pleased. I think another reviewer mentioned improvements have been made and I definitely agree.
