    Charro beans
    Abigail R.

Hands down my favorite taco place for over a decade or longer lol. If you need a late night spot they are open until after 2am I believe. I always get the fajita taco with queso (Yes like a quesadilla), the charro beans and the red salsa. They have the best meat, so not sure who their supplier is but regardless what time you go it's always fresh. I don't know who makes the Charro beans but they're absolutely my favorite in comparison to my mother-in-law. I know it looks funny in the container that they come in, but once you taste them that does not matter. You automatically get onions, cilantro and red or green salsa with your tacos. Don't be intimidated by the location as it can be a sketchy neighborhood and how long the line is. Last time they actually had a cop helping direct traffic and parking which was very helpful. That's how popular this place is. The line is long, but it moves pretty quickly and it's definitely worth it.

Lengua Quesadilla: Moist and thick slices, but not as flavorful as I was expecting.

Decided to come here last minute and didn't know they didn't have flour tortillas. If I had known ahead of time, I probably wouldn't have come. But since I was already here, I decided to give their corn tortillas a try. And I have to say, they weren't bad. Easily the best I've had. They were soft, and not brittle or rubbery. I definitely could eat it easily, but I still think flour is so much better. I think flour tortillas add a lot of flavor to tacos, whereas corn tastes more bland to me. But to each his own. Something else to note, the area is kinda sketchy. I definitely wouldn't want to come here alone, especially at night. And idk if it's a coincidence, but when I went with my bf, the line consisted of almost all men. I think there were actually a lot of women who stayed in their cars, while the men they were with stood in line. I'd probably do that too, but this was my first time here and I wanted to get the whole experience. TROMPO: Good, moist, and flavorful! Had some fatty bits. FAJITA: Great flavor, moist, and a little chewy. BARBACOA: This was dry throughout and a noticeably smaller portion than all the others. LENGUA: At first, I thought it was good. It was moist and in thick slices. But when I had some leftovers a few hours later, it wasn't very flavorful. Idk what happened, but flavor doesn't disappear that fast lol it might just be better fresh, I guess. For the QUESADILLAS, I didn't really notice the cheese, like, at all. People raved about how the quesadillas were so much better than the tacos, but I didn't get that. To be fair, I didn't eat any of the food until I got home 25 mins later. But, regardless, the cheese was really mild. So if you don't eat it right away, it's probably best to heat it up and get that cheese pull if you can. Btw, they don't give enough limes. Only 1 slice per foil packet. Not enough chopped onions either. Make sure to get extra!

As often as I've visited, I've missed leaving a review. But here it is now. Hands down my favorite taco truck at any time of day, but usually stop in after a night out when in the area. The parking is limited but there is a parking lot across the street where patrol is on duty every time I've visited. Simple, no fuss set up: cash only food truck, get cash ahead of time. Sometimes you walk up the line, other nights & especially weekends, there's a line wrapped around the corner. When you walk up, there's a menu on the truck with their offerings, there's quite a lot, but I am a simple man and stick to the fajita tacos on corn. The hickory smoked flavor is in every bite and that's what I really love about these tacos. You can eat the tacos without adding anything to them, they're always bursting with flavor and they put plenty of meat in the taco. I do like some garnish which they give you on the side consisting of cilantro, onion and lime and choice of green or red sauce. THAT IS ALL A TACO NEEDS! They tend to move pretty quick, but seems like forever especially when you're hungry and the smell is lingering in the air. I've gotten the agua de limon - pretty simple limeade, sweet and gets the job done. I've taken friends here and they've enjoyed it and hope you do too.

I had a good experience at el taconazo. Prices were really great & the flavor of the meat was great too. I went to el taconazo on a Thursday after work. It was really busy! Even for a Thursday night. The line moves fast tho. Prices were really cheap. It is cash only - so remember to bring some. I got three fajita tacos + the hibiscus lemonade. The flavor of everything was really great. The hibiscus lemonade was really good and earthy. I thought the meat had an excellent Smokey texture and was seasoned very well. The garnishes were fresh (although my lime didn't have mud juice)... It would be nice if they had places to sit. I also wish the meat was a bit more tender. But I had a good experience overall

    line moved fast.
    Destiny F.

Wasn't happy that I waited in line to realize they didn't even offer chicken as an option. The line did move fast though. I don't eat red meat but chicken tacos are my go-to. So just disappointed in that

When it comes to barbacoa, there is no taco truck I visit more often than El Taconazo. Despite the dime-a-dozen carts, food trucks, and streetside taquerias that are scattered throughout the city, very few do it as well as they do. They have become my gold standard for late night eats in Houston and feature some of the most tender taco meats in the Northside. After sunset, this place becomes destination for locals from all over the city. During their peak hours the lines can be long and the surrounding area is littered with cars just trying to make street parking work. During their busiest nights, they will have an armed parking guard who is either directing traffic or monitoring the area. The area gets somewhat shady at night, but that only adds to the charm for me. There is no seating. Most everyone is either getting out or eating it directly on the hood / trunks of their car. While the guys in the truck speak a decent amount of English, español is definitely the way to go. It's cash only and it's better to assume there is a line than not. I tend to park on the autoshop side while the majority will aim for the lot across the street. It's a tight squeeze with no less than a dozen potholes, so drive slow. The truck usually has no less than a dozen folks working all at the same time. While it may appear to be two separate trucks, the other one is really more o a prep kitchen and potentially where they prep the delicious meats throughout the night. They only have four meats: barbacoa, lengua, fajita, and trompo. All are quite good, but the Veracruz roots are definitely coming in handy. The barbacoa is tender, fatty, and full of flavor. I am usually dismissive of fajita meat, but their version is quite good. I usually purchase by the plato especial ($18), which comes with one's meat of choice covered by a nice helping of cheese. It's loaded with 7-8 tortillas most of the time and it's perfect for the amount of food. This is an experience for almost everyone. I appreciate that prices have been consistent, the service is quick (food takes almost no time), and the flavors are excellent. They're open till midnight on the weekdays and until 2:30am on the weekends. Have some cash as well as an appetite, and enjoy some of the best tacos in Houston.

Tromp. The meat is sliced very thin.

I don't know what the hype is all about. Based on reviews, I ordered the fajita quesadillas & trompo tacos. The fajita was chopped into tiny pieces & cooked well. I just didn't experience anything flavor wise that would make me return even though it's less than 2 mi. from my house. I want a party in my mouth & to make involuntary noises of pleasure with every bite. I'm going to check out a place in Spring Branch soon to see if I'm expecting too much. That said, service was super fast. My order was ready before I was able to pay. I came after 1:00 & there wasn't a line. I can't imagine standing in a long line for this. Perhaps you need to come late night while partying to appreciate it more. For the money, I'd rather buy a lb. of HEB ready to eat brisket, butter tortillas & make my own at home. I think tacos simply made with any of the HEB sausages such as 3 pepper or beef brisket would be more flavorful & less expensive than these.

Little taco trailer off Fulton street. There is always a line for these tacos. Parking is an ass. Cash only and the menu is as is. Service was fast so line moves pretty quickly. Anyway I got some fajita tacos which come just meat and tortilla that's it. Everything is separate in the bag and I got a quesodilla which was rolled up. Strange I know. I really don't know what all the hype is about with this place. Taste like any other taco truck but that's my opinion. Anyway till we eat again

CASH ONLY and no sitting area. Park your car and eat in your car. Make sure you grab a lot of napkins bc it can get messy. You know it's good if the place only accepts cash. Tacos were fresh and yummy. I got the barbacoa and trumpo meat with cheese. They give you toppings and sauce in small containers. Don't forget to add them to your tacos!

Great place for food. Line moves pretty quick. Prices have increased within a year.

Finally got to try out this gem thanks to our lovely CM Jando's recommendation (And I got to see first hand how fluent his Spanish was: Let's just say it's somewhere in the level 5: Native/Bilingual Proficiency area if you're on LinkedIn, while by contrast I'm still at the Duolingo elementary popcorn vocabulary level..) Anyways I definitely see the hype about this place, delicious tacos/fast service/opens late/cheap.. Personally I always enjoy a simple menu where a place knows what they offer and do it with efficiency/friendly service. I enjoyed my barbacoa taco as recommended, seasoned well, a bit dry but delicious. Lengua I wasn't a particular fan but it's a popular pick. Would definitely try the fajitas next time as well and their charro beans. As mentioned make sure you get cash ready and parking can be crowded in the lot across but there's street parking available adjacent.

These are the best tacos in Houston! The closet to a Mexican street food taqueria. I loved the tacos al pastor and the charros beans. The service is very fast and because of that, even though the line is always long, it moves pretty fast. The place is very relaxed and you can eat in your car.

This was our go to spot ever since I can remember visiting my grandma's house down the street by the car wash. They have gone up on their prices and I was aware of that. It has been a while since I visited maybe a year or so. So I decided to try them again. On 2 tacos/quesadillas,frijoles and a small drink I paid about $12. They used to come with lots of cheese and now as you can see it's barely there. Same for salsa verde. The little container would be filled up and now it was barely enough. They are fast but is it worth it ? Nah! Not anymore.

Allow me to be Review No. 1,100 following my visit to this wonderful culinary gem yesterday…read more By default, Spring Branch is Houston's Koreatown, but it's not unusual to find establishments with Spanish-language branding on them throughout the neighborhood. And Tacos Doña Lena, on which I'll heap tons of praise on, is among them. A group of friends and I had supper here before a live show down the street at Eighteen Ten Ojeman. Upon seeing the storefront when we pulled into the parking lot, my first thought was, "Okay, this is legit Mexican, not Tex-Mex." The interior is quite small with some tables and an ample late Saturday afternoon crowd. What caught my eye is how the environment is what you might expect to find at a family-run taqueria off the beaten path. Rock en Español blaring from the sound system. Colorful papel picado draped from the ceiling. A framed Mexican flag and several references to the central Mexican municipality of Guanajuato. The intoxicating smell of spice-laced grilled beef wafting through the air. Simply put, we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto. I glanced at the menu. There are numerous, delicious-sounding items that happen to be wallet-friendly, a bit cheaper than if you were to go to Gringos or Jimmy Changas. According to a mutual, the tacos here are the main draw, but what really caught my attention and appetite was the ramen birria. Mujeres y caballeros (ladies and gentlemen), let me proclaim that Tacos Doña Lena turns a noodle dish with origins in Japan and is a known staple in college dorm rooms into a must-try on this part of America's fourth-largest city. Two amazing food cultures unite for a fiery meeting of the minds. Anchored by a rich, tasty consomé that's spicy but not enough to where you need to drink multiple glasses of water, there's a prime mix of ramen noodle, beef birria, cheese, fried egg, rabanos, garbazo, and corn accompanied by cilantro, onions, and a pair of fried tostadas. I was so impressed with how the contents of the ramen blended together. Since it was ramen after all despite the south of the border touchup, I still ate it the traditional way: pick up the noodles and sip the soup. There was so much that I had no choice but to put it in a takeout container. Sure, Spring Branch may be home to some great traditional Korean restaurants, but don't sleep on Tacos Doña Lena.

The individual taking orders seemed to have a bit of an attitude and just seemed "over it." Furthermore, we mentioned having a queso coupon and when we were given the total I placed my card on the reader and I was told that I did it too fast and the queso wasn't taken off.
