Christmas tree ready for the holidays
David C.

I have been on a mission lately to try and explore more restaurants in the East End, and I am so glad a friend of mine recommended Villa Arcos. From what I've heard this local spot has been serving up some of the best breakfast tacos in the East End for a long time. I'm just sad I never came here sooner! Walking up, this little taco spot almost feels like a little house on Navigation. The ambiance is very casual and is the perfect hole in the wall type place. Service is simple, order at the counter, and they make your food to order. Always fresh and always hot, just like breakfast tacos should be. I love that their flour tortillas are always so soft and the perfect vessel for whatever filling you choose. I personally had their bacon/egg, chicharron/egg, chorizo/egg, and sausage/egg breakfast tacos. I wanted to try the most popular items, but I'm not gonna lie 4 of their breakfast tacos is A LOT of food! They really stuff the tacos as much as possible like they are mini burritos. And I specifically loved that that bacon and chicharron was still crispy nestled between the fluffy scrambled eggs. Top it off with their green salsa and you're in for a treat. I will 100% become a regular here now that I found this spot. The only other thing I wish they had was another spicier salsa. I was looking for more addictive heat in a salsa option for sure. Regardless, I'm excited to try the rest of the menu. Enjoy!

Very yummy tacos. I ordered the super ham while my partner ordered a "Super" and a regular breakfast taco. Even the non-super tacos are huge!! theyre like mini burritos! The food comes out quick, ample tables for dine-in both inside and outside, and there are premade desserts also for sale.

First time coming here and I was surprised how empty it was. To be fair I was kind of early on a Saturday morning. I arrived at 8am, parking lot is behind the building. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was how clean it smelled. There's a big wall menu and it's clear they focus on tacos. You walk up to the register to order and you are given a number. I order a bacon, egg, and cheese with beans, taco and the Migas taco. Cheese and beans are .75 extra for each which seems like a bit much. My order didn't take long to come out and I decided to take it home. The bacon, egg, cheese, and bean taco was less than average for me. I did like the thick cut bacon they used and how it was cooked crispy. But the lack of flavor from the eggs and beans made this taco fall short. But the real disappointment was the tortilla. It was very thick and felt more like pita bread. Not the migas taco was better. The onion and bell peppers help give it flavor. The fried corn tortillas also harder a nice crispy texture. I decided to eat this one with a fork so I would fill up on more pita bread. I would be willing to give them another try. Next time I'll eat there and try a plate.

They seem to be a bit of a neighborhood, perhaps a city, staple for quite a while now since 1977. It's a small time spot with a location that has plenty of competition, original Ninfa's and El Tiempo are within a block or 2. Walk up counter to order from a pretty uniform menu. They have a couple of tables inside and outside, but I get the feeling there's plenty of to-go orders happening here. As a Houstonian, with plenty of experience in the Mexican food sphere, this is just an ok spot. The barbacoa tacos are well cooked but not seasoned as well as they should/could be. The chicharron tacos are fried in old oil, that's the only way I could explain the taste. That's enough of a mistake to knock a star off for me. Just not enough going well here for a recommendation.

The breakfast was really good! I wasn't a fan of the style of chicken they use for the crunchy tacos, but everything else was great. The service was impeccable and everyone I encountered was really nice. The location is in a great spot, but parking at be hard to find if they are busy. The vibes were very homey, I enjoyed it.

Solid tacos in EaDo. Quite a few options to choose from, I got the bacon, sausage, and chorizo supers, which come with egg, potatoes, beans, and cheese. I think the bacon one is the best since you can really feel the texture of the bacon against the other fillings. My girlfriend got barbacoa and carne guisada, weird that only the barbacoa came with cilantro and onions and not the carne guisada. There's plenty of salsa verde bottles scattered among the tables, definitely ask for some salsa roja, that stuff is fire! (heh) Plenty of street parking nearby. Fair prices, decent portion size, not a crazy line on a Saturday.

Nice clean place, pretty small on the inside but we walked in and were able to sit down right away (Monday around noon). I ordered the enchilada plate and a fajita burrito with charro beans. The fajita beef burrito was tender not tough. Everything was made fresh to order and everything was so flavorful. It was an extra $1 for meat enchiladas but it was worth it! Small mom and pop places like this are usually the diamond in the rough! Definitely recommend this place!

Saw a line coming by here on the weekend and decided to check them out. They're located pretty much on Main Street Navigation in EaDo. Parking is pretty much streetside. They have limited interior seating and a few benches outside. The interior is a bit dated and was missing AC and had a humid odor. We decided to order and eat outside. Ordered a migas, barbacoa, bean and cheese, and chicharron and bean taco with an iced horchata drink. Their tortillas tasted handmade but were unfortunately a bit tough and chewy, not great. The migas mix was not good; honestly one of the more disappointing versions of migas that I've had. It was a bit bland and missing the usual rich migas flavor. The barbacoa was probably the best of the three tacos that I tried; unfortunately it was a bit greasy and somehow dry at the same time. The chicharron taco was unexpected; usually the pork skin is steamed or braised and soft; these had hard and greasy fried pieces mixed in with a generic bean spread. The grease they use was a bit heavy and tasted not quite fresh so that taco was not my favorite. The bean and cheese taco was as expected but their beans were slightly bland, so meh. The horchata was a bit watery. Overall, I think this is a fairly average taco experience. In my opinion; the breakfast tacos here doesn't hold a candle to Brothers (also in EaDo) in terms of flavor or value and the tacos here rank below even some of the less authentic taco spots inside the loop. I appreciate the handmade tortillas, but by toasting them, the texture and mouthfeel wasn't the best. The portions for each taco is honestly fair and larger than most street tacos.

I am always on the hunt for a good breakfast taco or burrito. Looks like I have found the best one in Houston so far. I actually saw this place on Eat Like A Local. Chris Shepard showcased this spot and I trust that man. It is an old building off Navigation and has been around since the 70's making homemade tortillas and tacos. They open early and close at 2 everyday. My first visit was in person. This place is small with some tables inside as well as some seating outside. There was a line when I came in and it can feel a little cramped. Customer service was good. I've only ordered the breakfast tacos here, but they do have a huge variety of breakfast and lunch tacos, breakfast and lunch plates, and sides. They have your everyday breakfast tacos around the 3 dollar range. For a little over 4 bucks you can get a super taco. Price wise it seems a little high for a taco, but they do no skimp on these things. I got a couple of super bacon tacos. These things had some weight to them. A mini burrito perhaps. It was filled with perfectly cooked, crispy bacon, eggs, potatoes and beans. The other tacos are specifically filled with what's in it's name. I thought I could kill super tacos easily, but I was full after just one. I saved the other one for lunch later. My recent orders have been through DoorDash to my workplace. We made a large order and they had everything just right and it kept its temp perfectly. I've tried all the super tacos and they are all good. Bacon is the frontrunner for me. They have red and green sauces for the tacos. The green is good, but the red packs some heat and tastes good as well. This isn't stopping my quest for the best breakfast tacos in town, but I will be comparing everything to this spot for now. I will be back.

Great spot. I would expect somewhat of a line. We got lucky and there wasn't one but it built as we waited. The people were really nice. We really enjoyed the bacon egg and cheese. They house make the flour tortillas and have store bought corn tortillas. Honestly wouldn't recommend the chorizo. It doesn't have that chorizo flavor or kick.

We visited around 5:00 PM on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately for a party of two without a reservation. The restaurant is huge, and despite being very busy, the service was efficient. We were seated in one of the back dining rooms and greeted with complimentary chips and salsa, both of which were delicious. The atmosphere was fantastic--packed with World Cup fans, with what felt like everyone wearing a soccer jersey. As fellow futebol fans, we loved the energy. Being from California, we're fortunate to have access to some excellent Mexican food, so we were a little hesitant about trying Tex-Mex. I ordered the chicken fajitas with flour tortillas and a passion fruit margarita. The chicken had a smoky flavor and a sauce that gave the dish a distinctly Texas-style twist. The flour tortillas were outstanding, and the refried beans and rice were just as enjoyable. The passion fruit margarita was also a standout and something I'd definitely order again. Overall, this was a great dining experience and a place I'd recommend for the atmosphere alone. The restaurant appears well-equipped to accommodate large groups, making it a great option for gatherings. Next time, I'd love to return with a bigger group and take advantage of one of their margarita pitchers!

Neither one of us had eaten and we were both starving. We had decided that when I was released we would just go to the restaurant that was in the same parking lot as the facility. I had been to the restaurant before, had fajitas and they were served bloody raw and was just disgusting so I Never went back. We mentioned where we were planning to go to some of the staff members and they said do not go there and that it was too expensive for the type of Mexican food that they serve you. Then they all suggested Maria Rita's. My wife and I had never heard of it before so we asked where it was and it was located 2min down the street. When we got there it was packed, but we decided to thug it out and wait for a table, this also gave us time to troll the parking lot and land a killer parking spot as people left. We finally got the notice that our table was ready. The inside was clean, awesome and had a savory aroma mixed with a Smokey grill Oder that just made us even more hungry than we already were. We both ordered this dish that came with fajitas and bacon wrapped shrimp with a cheese sauce that was Truly Amazing! When I finally was able to take a bite of one of the four gigantic shrimp after I completely destroyed my fajitas, I thought that I was going to pass out from the ecstasy that the flavor profile from that shrimp that overwhelmed my senses! We both enjoyed our meal,(obviously) and I can't end this review without mentioning how attentive, nice and unexpected table side manor that the staff had displayed despite being overwhelmed with a full house crowd. A truly epic experience. Please dig deep for a tip, they deserve it. Enjoy!!

Parking can be challenging on weekends, but there is complimentary valet and a few extra spots in a lot across the street. There's interior and exterior seating, with cozy booths and tables. Service is friendly. Chips and salsa: Superica has some of my favorite chips, crispy and thin and perfectly fried. The avocado crema salsa and warm serrano pepper salsas are delicious with a mild kick. The bottled red salsa is fresh and green salsa packs a nice punch. Migas: Scrambled eggs with tortilla chips and cheese, choice of chicken versus chorizo on top, finished with fresh avocado. I really enjoyed this combination and the generous portion for the price. The eggs are well scrambled without being dry, and the pairing with cheese is proportional. The chicken was a touch dry, but some salsa solved that well. I enjoyed stuffing each component into a fresh tortilla and devouring it as a breakfast taco. Refried beans and rice: Really delicious. The refried beans are of the smoother variety without as much chunkiness, which I prefer, and topped with creamy cheese. I could have used a touch more tomato in the rice, but overall enjoyed the texture and flavor. Patatas with salsa roja, topped with egg: I enjoyed the flavors in this dish, but there was sooo much salsa. The potatoes were thus a little soggy, though still cooked well. The over medium egg was cooked nicely and complemented the potatoes with creamy yolk. Bacon: Really generous portion for $7 as a side, and cooked well. Crispy potatoes: I enjoy that these are fingerling potatoes smashed and roasted, but they could be crispier. They seem to be on the blander side on purpose to allow seasoning to taste, and I really like pairing them with the red bottled salsa provided at each table (probably due to their association with ketchup). Hotcakes: The literal star of every brunch, these hotcakes are consistently delicious. They're massive yet somehow cooked perfectly through so that they're fluffy and soft on the inside and just with a slight crunch on the outside. The pairing of the creamy warm (!!!) maple syrup is heavenly. Because of how huge these are, usually one is enough to share between two people, although they also come in stacks of two and three. For reference, we finished 3/4 of three between four healthy and hungry people and it wasn't for lack of trying. Whenever I crave weekend brunch, Superica is always a top option.
