I was sad when they decided to close To my surprise, I heard they reopened. made a stop this morning for the usual and I was extremely disappointed from the time I ordered the taco with a young guy that messed up my order of two tacos to the tacos !! Carne guisada taco was 4 big chunks of stew meat that didn't come with a knife. Meat was tasteless and dry. On yo the second taco bean taco with a slice of bacon- Újule, my 12 yr old could've done better with this one. No nenas and old dried up bacon from the weekend. Had the same issues - no steak knife included. The bacon was not edible without having a trip to the dentist, plus the beans were not existent. This joint seems to be managed by young twenty year olds, I guess. The salsa is made for the people who just want color in the tacos , tasteless. Very rarely to I drop stars on my fave breakfast taco places but this place has changed. Today we got potato and egg and the potato's were a bit dry. The carne guisada tasted different as well. First thing I noticed when I received my tacos were the tortilla. Super fluffy and thick! You could tell they were hand made. I ordered the chorizo and egg, the bacon super, and a barbacoa(offered on Sunday). They red and green sauce provided for each! My favorite of the three was the bacon super mainly because the chunks of bacon were really crispy and it was a stuffed taco. Makes sense considering it's almost $4 for each one. I was quite anxious to try this place, since it's right down the street from where I work and not to far from a few large scaled, well known Houston area Mexican restaurants. I was looking for something more mom and pop type, so I checked it out. The red painted building stands out like art in this newly refreshed block of Navigation. It beckoned me into the quaint dining area and to the counter, where I was overwhelmed by a huge menu to my left, that had me a bit confused. I took some time to break it down and finally found something that caught my eye...tacos! I wanted to try the crispy tacos. I felt like that should be a great indicator of the skills of this little place. The guy at the counter was nice and welcoming. He was using the latest technology (a tablet) to take my order, which I thought was pretty cool for this little place. I paid for my order at 1:33 pm and watched as person after person came into the restaurant and left. After 20 minutes I still hadn't received my order and my lunch time was ticking away, as I sat in the room of tales and chairs with a TV that wasn't receiving the best reception via the satellite is was connected (or not connecting) to. I approached the counter and the guy asked if I'd gotten my food and I shook my head. He apologized, because he apparently didn't get my order to the people who actually make the food...with that fancy little tablet. Lol. At any rate, I finally got my food about ten minutes later (I was going to be late getting back to work from lunch) and there were three crispy tacos, with some rice, beans, and a verde salsa in two little containers. The beans were awesome, but I fear that they aren't for everyone, since they contain slices of jalapeno. This should be listed on the menu as such (and maybe there should be a version that doesn't contain jalapenos. I love them, but if it was for my kid or someone who doesn't prefer them, they are pretty much out of luck. The rice was pretty good. The tacos....I didn't care for the tacos. They were very thin and fell apart almost instantly. They also tasted as if they were soaking in lard. The taste was profound and took away from any taste that the meat had. My mouth felt greasy the rest of the day and no matter what i ate or drank, I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. Ugh! I might come back by for the breakfast tacos, just to see what the fuss is about. But my first visit was a bust. read more
