The location is an old neighborhood undergoing revitalization, the building looks like it has been loved for many years. The ladies behind the counter are friendly and helpful. Great little place to stop for breakfast or lunch tacos. Egg and chorizo was by far my favorite and the little green cup of salsa on the side paired perfectly with it. Indoor and outdoor seating. This is a very local taco joint, I discovered this only from word of month from my friends. This taco joint has been around in the neighborhood serving fresh home made tortillas and breakfast taco for awhile. The diversity of the community that come here is amazing, from college student getting affordable tacos to the locals that have been going here ever since they open. Went to villa Arcos for the first time the Wednesday before thanksgiving. When I arrived there was a decent line of 6 people in front of me that took about 10 minutes to get through. What then transpired can only be as explained as a lack of logistical planning? There were to go orders flying out the door and all the dining guests all waited for an unnecessarily long time. My order of 3 breakfast tacos took 25 minutes to come out. Idk if this is par for the course or I made a severe miscalculation by not doing a to go order but it was quite ridiculous. The tacos it self were good, solid fresh flour tortillas and the bacon was extremely crispy. There was nothing wrong with the tacos at all but they weren't necessarily mind blowing, just quality home made neighborhood tacos. Their salsa was rather bad though, it was a deep dark green that had little to no flavor or depth just simply added some spice. Would I come back and try them again? Sure but I wouldn't go out of my way for it and I would make sure to order 30 minutes ahead to avoid waiting. I can see why it gets shine amongst the food community, they are fresh handmade breakfast tacos seated in a Latino community that doesn't have many other restaurants in its vicinity, but I think there are many other places in the city that offer just as good breakfast tacos that don't require waiting 35 minutes and driving out of your way to a less commonly traveled part of the city. read more

This place is located just off of Navigation. It's a culturally rich neighborhood that embraces Hispanic Heritage. Villa Arcos does a great job supplementing the culture of this area and their food will keep you coming back. I really enjoy getting their "Super" tacos. The tortillas are stuffed full of potatoes and will leave you stuffed and filled with happiness. This place is small but not too cramped. The first time I wasn't wowed so I decided to give them a second try and really don't think they live up to the hype! The tortillas are good and taste homemade and the eggs and potatoes are good but there's one thing missing, SALT! I know many places make their tacos "al gusto" so you can add salt if you want but I usually like my food to taste good from the get go. I swung by here with my girlfriend the other day on our way to an event further up on Navigation. They have an extensive selection of breakfast tacos and other items, including Saturday and Sunday specials to draw in more crowds. The line wasn't too long, so we ran in to grab some food. There were only three people behind the counter, and while they were hustling, it definitely wasn't enough staffing to keep up with the crowd. One of the individuals seemed to be processing big orders that had been called in earlier in the day, which was further slowing down the orders for the people in line. After a surprisingly long wait, we finally got our breakfast tacos (2 chorizo & egg, 2 bean & cheese). They greasy flour tortillas were obviously made in house, as were the chorizo and beans. They were a good quality and size that made it worth the higher than usual prices. I'd give them a fourth star if they would just turn over orders a bit more quickly. read more

I came closer to lunch as it was a long night and I was craving for some good breakfast tacos! This place is by far no means fine dine, it's just a small stand/restaurant, no AC, counter service. I had the Carne Guisada for $2.50, which was my favorite, I also had the Chorizo, Egg, Potato, Bean, & Cheese for $3.10, this one was a bit much for me, very filling, my gf had a Potato & Egg for $1.70, and she also got the Egg & Cheese for $1.70. I added in one Barbacoa for $2.50 at the last minute since it was only available on the weekends. This one was my 2nd favorite. I had a few bites of her breakfast tacos too but I was plenty full off what I ordered. She brought up a good point and these tacos reminded her of the ones she used to get at UT along speedway. I am a fan of Villa Arcos breakfast tacos and hot sauce. Green Hot Sauce (5/5) - Very hot and flavorful Breakfast Tacos (5/5) - Some of the best flour tortillas in the city. They are flavorful, thick and have the perfect amount of chewiness. I also like that they use shredded cheese. Bean tostadas (5/5) - served with lettuce, tomatoes, & shredded cheese. The crisp tostada shell make this a favorite for me. I wish they could make their taco shell this tasty. Crispy Beef Taco (2/5) - This is a Carne Picada (Hamburger Meat w/ Potatoes) taco. My rating is based on the taco shell and the potatoes. The shell tastes store bought and this is not very good taste. Also, I prefer my beef tacos without the potato filler. Anything with bacon (3/5) - Watch out for the big chunks of bacon, they can be tough. Combination Plate (3/5) - Overpriced for the amount of food that you get. I could go on all day about how this is the BEST taco place in Houston. First of all it is in a shack off of beautifully renovated Navigation in Eado. The tacos are giant and filled with lots of meat and any items you want. They are not stingy on the meat. I came here and get the chorizo w/ potato and the bean and cheese tostada every time! And I find the bacon super and the carne guisada and picadillo are both very tasty options as well. Try something new! The chichirones taco was a little oily but the flavor was spot on. I come here after the gym once a week. I love it. Hint: It's best to go after 11am. Before 11, you get the brunch crowd coming for breakfast tacos. They serve everything all day btw. This is one you should consider. Friends have raved about it for years... First visit - this AM. Fortunately we got there by 9 AM so we avoided a line out the door which quickly happened soon thereafter. Many families, young professionals, and HPDers. Friendly service. Awesome tacos! Thank baby buhdah they finally accept credit cards. Service is meh. Sometimes a rude lady at the window which is off putting but the tacos make it worth it... These tacos are pretty gigantic. I wanted to try three, but that was definitely way too much. Two is even pushing it! I had their barbacoa, potato and egg, and carne guisada. Out of the three, the barbacoa was the tastiest. It was probably some of the best barbacoa I've ever had. Not fatty at all, and just stuffed with meat. The carne guisada was pretty tasty and super tender--it actually tasted just like the homemade stuff a friend made. I just wish it came in smaller chunks, but it's so tender you can break it up easily. The potato and egg though, was super bland and one of the worst I've had. The potatoes tasted plain, boiled, like nothing else done to them. The cheese was boring congealed yellow...not the tasty white cheese that melts so well. Meh. I liked the green salsa, but it was more tomatillo based, and not the creamy green kind that I crave. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I came at an off time (Saturday lunch), so I didn't experience the long line mentioned in other reviews. I've been coming to Villa Arcos since I was a kid. Hands down the best tacos in Houston or anywhere for that matter. The homemade tortilla's can't be matched. Everything is always made fresh to order. My favorite is the egg and sausage. Sounds simple, but combined with hot sauce you can't get a better start to your day. Fantastic tacos! Seriously, some of the best I've had and up there with Tacos Tierra Caliente. Great tortillas, yummy tacos and friendly, nice service. We had the bacon and egg, super bacon, carne guisada and barbacoa and egg tacos. The bacon and egg is simple yet great--the bacon is rich and flavorful. The super bacon adds beans and cheese--very decadent and huge! While the carne guisada is not a breakfast taco, it is delish--nice and juicy meat. Barbacoa was fantastic--it had a bit of heat but not too much. All in all, we enjoyed all of their tacos. It cost about $11 for the four tacos, so it was pretty reasonably priced, and the tacos are a bit large. read more

Villa Arcos has hands down the best breakfast tacos in town. I go out of my way to tell people they should go here. They make their own flour tortillas and chorizo (and probably other things), both of which are crave-worthy. I always get bean and egg and some meat (chorizo, bacon, or chicharrón); all of which leave me wondering how their tacos are so much better than everyone else's. If you're looking for authentic Mexican breakfast tacos in an uniquely Houston setting; look no further than Villa Arcos. During operation hours they serve an assortment of breakfast and lunch tacos. You can expect to wait a little bit while the cooks prepare your fluffy tortillas with fresh ingredients. If you're coming here expecting an in and out experience than you're going to be disappointed. The parking lot is small so be prepared to street park or walk a little bit in Houston's Second Ward. But enough about that let's talk Tacos. I can't stress enough how good these tacos are; the tortillas are fresh and soft, the egg/potato combination was the perfect ratio and it reminded me exactly of what I would wake up to during the weekends as a young kid. Inside the restaurant you can expect a no-frills seating arrangement, a perfect reminder that this place has been making happy taco customers for decades. The prices are fair for the portion sizes, the quality ingredients is high, there is little downside in terms of food. I could see how the parking situation or wait times could be a put-off but they are not enough to detract from the overall experience. If I have friends and family visiting town there is no doubt that in the same way New Yorkers want to put you on to "a real New York bagel" I want to turn them onto "a real Mexican taco" and Villa Arcos does just that. It's TEX-MEX food if anyone wants to know. It's not really authentic Mexican food with it's full flavors. The outside looks very nice so I was expecting something very authentic. No, just regular Taco Bell flavor food. Not even kidding. They should change it to Tex-Mex and not call it a Mexican restaurant. Plus side, your food comes out very hot... scalding hot actually. I come here pretty often because I live nearby and it's convenient. The tacos are amazing.. but the timing is so terrible. I don't understand why ordering 3 simple breakfast tacos, takes 40+ minutes to receive. I've even called in my order ahead of time, at their non peak times, and when I arrive in the given time frame, I still have to wait an additional 10-15 minutes. Every time I go, multiple people are always complaining about why their orders are taking so long. There are more people sitting waiting for their food, than eating food. After our ritualistic weekend pan dulce run we decided to get some breakfast and what better than a breakfast of champions complete with tacos. This is Mr. World type stuff right here. Hooraaaahhhh! Villa Arcos is a cozy little cottage style restaurant located in the heart of the east end. It's a simple set up with a few tables outside for people watching and a few more inside if you are looking to eat your grub in peace. The menu is super simple -- highlighting the taco selection, fillings, and extras. You can order the classics or build your own. I went for the chorizo and egg (Mexican sausage and egg) and the carne guisada tacos. They were soooo good! La carne guisada was so tender it almost melted in my mouth. El chorizo was well seasoned and had a nice spice to it. I'm used to taco places hooking me up with the fixings like onion, cilantro, and lime to enhance the flavor, but at Villa Arcos that's a premium. You have to scarf up an additional $0.15 to $0.25 to get the extras if you want to kick your tacos up a notch. I have my eye on the Menudo and will definitely be back on a Saturday to try it.
