beef shawarma with hummus
Ali Y.

One of the better food trucks in Houston, I had the beef shawarma and hummus. It comes with tomato and cilantro which I politely declined as in my experience with shawarma it is not needed. Instead of pita bread you get pita chips which are quite crispy and seasoned well. The sandwich is smothered in tahini, next time I would ask them to go easy on it. They had few options to choose from but did what they advertised well so I would recommend them to my friends.

I normally have to drive into the city for great Tabouli. Not anymore! Pita Bites was at Rosehill Beer Garden and after getting a small free tasting of tabouli, I was hooked and purchased a full order It is fresh, made to order, and even my 3 year old who was hesitant to try it at first loved it. It was served with crisp lettuce for scooping, tomatoes and yummy pickles.

We discovered this food truck while at an evening event at Houston Museum of Natural Science. The other food trucks that were supposed to be there left early. I don't know why they did but I thank them for that because we got to try the fare at this great food truck. Pita Bites offers Middle Eastern type cuisine. The foods will all pay tribute to this culture. My man and I ordered the chicken shawarma. One of our guests ordered the falafel and the other a gyro. With these entrees you get a side. Sides we chose were hummus and chips and tzatziki sauce. Everything was amazing! The shawarma was so flavorful with tender chicken, perfectly pickled veggies with the most complementary sauce. The pita is a flatbread type and a little different from your standard pita but incredibly tasty. Our friend, who loved falafel, said his was some of the best he had eaten. The gyro disappeared quickly and we were told that is was very good and an interesting twist on the traditional type gyro. The hummus was outstandingly creamy, rich and had just the right amount of olive oil. The chips were fried but still crunchy and I loaded every one of them down with the hummus. Faux pas or not, I even dipped my shawarma in the leftover hummus. Yes, it was that good. The tzatziki was cooling and creamy. One thing that I wasn't expecting was the fries that were part of my shawarma ingredients. I actually liked it. They added a little something to the whole shawarma that made it different but enjoyable. I love mango juice and the one I ordered didn't disappoint. It was refreshing and the chunks of mango were fresh tasting. The service was very friendly. The lady taking orders was so helpful to us with this being our first time eating here. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. Just a note: do not expect what you think of as a traditional Greek gyro. This one is a different type of Mediterranean cuisine so ask about it before ordering and go into it with an open mind. If we happen upon this food truck again and we are hungry, we will definitely be stopping for a visit.

Gyros and hummus

This is not only my favorite food truck but my all time favorite hummus and gyros. One word- AMAZING! Khaled is incredibly nice and helpful when ordering. We make a point to eat here.

It's the kind of place where you instantly feel relaxed yet excited for what's to come. The food is nothing short of exceptional. We ordered Lamb chops and shank special today. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, with fresh ingredients and flavors that are both vibrant and comforting. You can truly taste the authenticity in every bite--whether it's the perfectly seasoned meats, the rich sauces, or the beautifully balanced sides. What really elevates the experience, though, is the service. The staff are attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and taken care of without ever being overbearing. Athena's isn't just a place to eat--it's an experience. Whether you're going for a casual meal or a special occasion, it delivers on every level. I'll definitely be coming back Peter Johnmariadoss & Family.

We ordered calamari & baked oysters for appetizers. It was the most tender calamari I've ever had, and the flavor of the oysters was phenomenal. Our entrees were the lamb shank with a side of mushrooms, and the red snapper special topped with scallops and shrimp. The lamb fell off the bone and was so tender and flavorful. The scallops were melt in your mouth good, and the shrimp and red fish were delicious. We ended with baklava to celebrate my birthday. Not only did it taste amazing, but after singing to me, nearly the entire staff, including the owner, came over to personality wish me a happy birthday. I will definitely be back to try many of the other items on the menu that I didn't get to try last night!

BOY WAS I WRONG! There were so many diverse options of food to have from salads, to meat, to different breads & dessert. They even had banana pudding!! Needless to say, I was very surprised. They do have a price list for to go(it is by the pound for the most part) .So it's not just $18 you get what you want like with the dine in option. I was expecting my plates to be expensive. But it ended up coming out to adjust a little bit above the buffet price. And of course the food was delicious! I got so many things I can't name them all but I ended up getting Two salads(IDR the names) Khafta, gyro meat & hummus as well as grape leaves & falafel. My 2nd plate was for pita & garlic bread. Five stars , because this place exceeded my expectations in every aspect! This will be a regular spot for me!

Our server, Lance, was phenomenal--attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the food. He made us feel right at home. We started with the spicy hummus, and it was a total standout. Creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. Plus, the portion was generous--perfect for sharing (though I kind of wanted it all to myself!). The gyro plate was another hit. The meat was tender and flavorful, with a great blend of spices. It leaned more toward the soft side rather than crispy, which we actually loved--it made every bite melt in your mouth. The accompanying rice and salad were fresh and well-seasoned, rounding out the dish beautifully. And let's talk about the baklava--flaky, buttery layers with just the right touch of sweetness and a satisfying crunch. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and the flavors really transported us. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu--next time, I've got my eye on the lamb kebabs and falafel! Highly recommend Mezze for anyone craving delicious Mediterranean food and top-notch service.

Great Food, But Cleanliness and Service Are a Major Concern!!!…read more I visited this restaurant for the first time about two weeks ago, and unfortunately, it was not a great dining experience, despite how good the food was. The concept of the restaurant is actually really appealing. It has a Chipotle-style, build-your-own ordering setup where you can choose a bowl or a wrap and customize it as you go. I ordered a salad bowl with brown cilantro rice, romaine lettuce, roasted vegetables, avocado, red pickled onions, pico de gallo, cucumbers, and Harissa Honey Chicken. My son got a pita wrap with brown cilantro rice, roasted corn, avocado, romaine lettuce, and the same Harissa Honey Chicken. We both genuinely enjoyed our meals--the flavors were fresh, balanced, and well-seasoned. I especially appreciated the option of white or brown rice, which not every fast-casual spot offers. But here's where things went downhill--the cleanliness of the dining room was unacceptable. The floors were sticky, and the tables and chairs were also sticky and covered with leftover food debris. The kicker? We were the very first customers of the day, which tells me that the restaurant was not cleaned the night before and definitely wasn't cleaned that morning before opening. That's unacceptable and honestly quite concerning. On top of that, we were not greeted upon entering. Instead, the staff stared at us awkwardly, which made the experience feel unwelcoming. Customer service was minimal and lacked warmth or attentiveness. Ratings: Salad Bowl - 5/5 Pita Wrap - 5/5 Ambience - 2/5 (dull, no music or energy) Cleanliness - 0/5 Customer Service - 2/5 Final Thoughts: As much as I enjoyed the food, I'm deeply concerned about the lack of cleanliness and hospitality. If the dining room is that neglected, I can't help but question the sanitation in the kitchen. Sadly, I won't be returning--not even for takeout. I don't want to risk food poisoning. Visit at your own risk. The food might be delicious, but poor upkeep and cold customer service ruined the experience for me.
