My hubby is uber fussy about Mediterranean food, but he absolutely loved this. As a few of the other reviewers have said, the bread isn't traditional pita, it's a Lebanese flat bread - it is akin to the roti cani pancakes from Malaysia, just a bit thicker. The contents were heavenly, and plentiful. Lots of good quality, excellently cooked ingredients. We really did love it! One of the better food trucks in Houston, I had the beef shawarma and hummus. It comes with tomato and cilantro which I politely declined as in my experience with shawarma it is not needed. Instead of pita bread you get pita chips which are quite crispy and seasoned well. The sandwich is smothered in tahini, next time I would ask them to go easy on it. This is one of those places that reminds me why I shouldn't be so quick to judge (or Yelp) a place that's only been open a week. Also reminds me to not get blindsided by my cultural ignorance. First time I tried this place they had just opened. I was taken aback by falafel sandwich. I was expecting this ginormous over-stuffed sandwich like I get at most standard Mediterranean or Greek places. You know the drill: shit tone of lettuce, chunky tomato slices, onion, falafel patties that fail to stay in the sandwich, wrapped in a dry pita and smothered (read: dripping) in tahini sauce. Pitas Bites' version was smaller, lighter and the most significant difference was the pita bread itself. It was thinner, denser in texture and resembled more of a tortilla than pita. While delicious and satisfying, I felt like Pitas Bites failed to live up to its namesake. Second time 'round, a month later and it's like WHOA. They must have worked out their recipe, because their bread turned out to be the highlight of my falafel sandwich. Also realized they're a Lebanese truck, so it's not your generic "Mediterranean" fare. I did some googling and discovered their "pita" is actually a traditional Lebanase flat bread called manakish. It reminds me of the Indian paratha flat bread: crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside and with enough elasticity to hold a sandwich without cracking. Not sure what the other meat-based sandwiches have on their menu, but my sandwich was filled with pickled veggies, lettuce and a creamy sauce I haven't yet identified. Tangy. Zippy. Proportionate fillings. Minimal mess. Conclusion: manakish flat bread is superior to pita. read more

I've gone here 10-20 times and every single experience has been enjoyable and delicious. PREVIOUS review: An unexpected find! This is the first foodtruck that I've really, really enjoyed. I'll definitely be stalking these guys' locations. I found them by accident on a trip to Antidote by 11th Street / Stoudemart, which they're there on Fridays apparently. On Saturdays they're usually at Sassafras on Pinemont. Check their social media for their schedule. I was curious, checked Pita Bites out, and wasn't disappointed. Exceptional chicken shawarma and some pretty good baba ganoush to go with it. Nice portion and authentic taste. Not to venture into a lame foodie description, but what made the wrap so good was it felt balanced. There wasn't five pounds of lettuce and two pieces of chicken. More importantly, the bread / wrap is what separates it from other restaurants. Staff has always been super friendly and genuinely wants to hear if your feedback while offering plenty of suggestions based on your taste. I'm definitely looking forward to checking these guys out again... but I'm not sure whether I want to try something new or just stick with that delicious chicken shawarma. Falafel, hummus, etc,. Wow! Great food and amazing service!! I was the mood for a gyro sandwich and didn't want to drive far. I'm no stranger to food trucks, so I called to make sure they were open. Khaled answered and explained that they are normally open for lunch, but today they are opening at 3:00. Oh well, I thought. Then, Khaled asked what I was looking for and I told him that I was really looking for a good gyro. To my surprise, he said come on over, I will have one ready in 10 minutes. What? They are not open, but he is willing to make a sandwich just for me? Wow. So, I got there and my meal was promptly ready. I was very thankful! I told Khaled that I love the gyros from Niko Nikos, but can never find time to drive all the way there. Khaled explained that his gyro is a Lebanese style, so it is different and hoped I like it. We discovered this food truck while at an evening event at Houston Museum of Natural Science. The other food trucks that were supposed to be there left early. I don't know why they did but I thank them for that because we got to try the fare at this great food truck. Pita Bites offers Middle Eastern type cuisine. The foods will all pay tribute to this culture. My man and I ordered the chicken shawarma. One of our guests ordered the falafel and the other a gyro. With these entrees you get a side. Sides we chose were hummus and chips and tzatziki sauce. Everything was amazing! The shawarma was so flavorful with tender chicken, perfectly pickled veggies with the most complementary sauce. The pita is a flatbread type and a little different from your standard pita but incredibly tasty. Our friend, who loved falafel, said his was some of the best he had eaten. The gyro disappeared quickly and we were told that is was very good and an interesting twist on the traditional type gyro. The hummus was outstandingly creamy, rich and had just the right amount of olive oil. The chips were fried but still crunchy and I loaded every one of them down with the hummus. Faux pas or not, I even dipped my shawarma in the leftover hummus. Yes, it was that good. The tzatziki was cooling and creamy. One thing that I wasn't expecting was the fries that were part of my shawarma ingredients. I actually liked it. They added a little something to the whole shawarma that made it different but enjoyable. I love mango juice and the one I ordered didn't disappoint. It was refreshing and the chunks of mango were fresh tasting. The service was very friendly. The lady taking orders was so helpful to us with this being our first time eating here. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. Just a note: do not expect what you think of as a traditional Greek gyro. This one is a different type of Mediterranean cuisine so ask about it before ordering and go into it with an open mind. I ate at Pitas Bites last Saturday at Jackson's Water Hole where they were parked in the parking lot. I got a falafel sandwich and an order of hummus for my wife. Both were awesome and it wasn't that expensive. It is Lebanese style which is a tad different from the Greek style most people have had. The main difference is that they don't put the tzatziki (sp?) yogurt sauce on the sandwich like most greek places do. It is totally awesome though! The owner gave me a business card with their website, but it looks like it's still under construction, so Im going to add them to my Facebook so I can keep track of where they are on a given day. This Mediterranean food truck is located in the Antidote Coffee parking lot on Friday evening. First of all, the service was great. They allowed me to taste some of the food before I ordered since it was my first time. I ended up ordering the beef shwarma sandwich and the tender pieces of grilled beef fit perfectly with the pickled vegetables in a homemade pita bread.
