I also got a French press coffee that underwhelmed (it was made with boiling water so it was a bit burnt flavored), but have no fear, it was replaced with a cold brew coffee that was really good. Service was TOP NOTCH with Lily being very pleasant, attentive, personable, and professional. I was impressed with her approach to make sure things met expectations. Not a fan of that percentage for self-serve and counter service (you have to order food at the register). We ended up going to Mimo down the street to sit at the bar, taste complimentary samples, and then order a full glass. I'll still go back to Roots but have kinda lowered my expectations of the wine selection and value. Some of the novelty has worn off. I ordered the cheeseburger, and I almost NEVER get excited about somebody changing up a burger, but this one came on an English muffin and IT WORKED! The fresh beef smash burger was cooked perfectly. I left off the pickles, aioli and onions, but otherwise I wouldn't have changed a thing. It was honestly one of the best-prepared burgers I've had in a while. Then, halfway through my burger, I discovered they had French fries. How did I miss the fries?! So of course I ordered them late, and I'm glad I did. Fresh, hand-cut potatoes, perfectly cooked, and served with a dipping sauce that I cannot identify--but whatever was in that little cup needs to keep happening because it was AMAZING.
