This was the husbands choice for brunch while in town, he used the Yelp app = proud wife. Great pick! Otto's had a brunch menu where I wanted to order one of everything and had a serious case of indecision sweats. My solution: close my eyes, point and order. Done. Sometime you just have to tell yourself it's just brunch, no need to panic over making the wrong food choice. What came next was Crab Hash: deliciously seasoned, tender, yet crispy potatoes, mixed with lump crab meat, peppers, onions. The potato wonderland laid the tastiest foundation for a perfectly poached egg and sour cream sauce. It was accompanied by a cup of tomato dill soup. The hint of dill in the soup was a lovely fresh detail. My one complaint was there wasn't enough of it. The portion size was small. I wanted more.... so for dessert we ordered a single lemon blueberry pancake to share. A friend of mine taught me the importance of ordering appetizer pancakes but dessert pancakes work wonders and this was a perfect ending to brunch. I don't think I have ever had a better pancake: Light fluffy but perfectly crisp around the edges. Next time I'm giving those tasty cakes my full attention in addition to the bloody mary's I was eyeballing (ranked as one of the best Bloody Mary's in Cincinnati - made with their jalapeno-infused vodka). Six of us. Wait staff very good, food very good. Management needs some work. Had a wonderful meal at Otto's tonight, food cooked perfectly, service by wait staff was very good (Austin from Montana.) However, when it came to the food pairing, I question the thought process. I had a wonderful piece of halibut, cooked perfectly. It was paired on top of a goat cheese and pear risotto, which was a bit strange but very, very good but sweet. My wife was served her scallop dish which was paired with an asparagus and spinach risotto, very good but I suggest that this pairing would have been better paired with the halibut. I commented this to the server and my wife asked that for a small portion of her flavor risotto (asparagus and spinach) be served to me. The server left and conferred with his superior whom then returned and advised that there would be a $6 charge for this. I declined and just shook my head. So, for a small dish, with a cost of probably $2, with an entree of $33, I probably will give this restaurant a pass for the foreseeable future. The food was very good, well prepared, and the service more than adequate. However, I just question the wisdom of charging me for the alternative risotto. I have been in the food business for over 40 years, have had experience with food pairings and dealing with customers. I am not angry and still have a high opinion of Otto's. I just took two out-of-town friends for a "ladies lunch" at Otto's, based on the comments here. We couldn't have been happier. The atmosphere's pleasant, with the brightly painted chairs, white tablecloths and the art on the walls. Even though most tables were filled at the busy lunch hour, the service was prompt and the server was professional and pleasant. We've been coming to Otto's for a couple of years now. It WAS one of our favorite places. We like the food and the atmosphere. Problem is, the last time we were there, we had a terrible waitress. I notice several other reviewers mentioning a rude waitress, and I wonder if we had the same one. She ignored us for a long time, and when we finally tried to get her attention she came over with a rude attitude. That rude attitude continued throughout the meal. She was very "snippy" and slammed things down on the table. We used to come to Otto's feeling sure about a nice experience. This waitress has soured our attitude about Otto's. The food did not disappoint and was really delicious the two times I went for brunch. The lemon-blueberry pancakes and bacon are fantastic. The portions are appropriate. The interior design is artsy and interesting. That's where the positives end for me. As for the negatives...both times I visited on a Sunday afternoon around 1-2pm. It wasn't terribly busy with maybe 5-6 other two-tops scattered around. Despite that, we had to waive down our waitress no less than three times (each visit) for things like more water, more coffee, more syrup, our check, etc. It's as if the staff are trained only to take orders and drop the food off. The kicker for us (and why we won't go back) is the last time we visited as we were walking out an almost empty restaurant, we made our way past 3 servers and not one person acknowledged us or said in his or her own way "Thank you for your business". It was damn near awkward. And after spending $60 for brunch, you can bet your ass I'm not going to tell you to have a good day (I almost did out of habit) without staff first staying it. In summary, if you're content with poor service and having your hard-earned dollar not appreciated, by all means, check the place out. I took my friends here for brunch on a Saturday morning. Called at 9am for an 11:30 reservation and was lucky enough to get a table. I walked in a little early and although we couldn't be seated early, the host was gracious enough to give me and my friends some coffee so we could wander around the neighborhood while our table was readied. This place is amazing! I've never been high from food before until I came here. I started with Brie Berry salad, which was amazing, and then the Seared Halibut special with candied brussel sprouts and roasted beets, and I can honestly say it was the best halibut I've ever had. I can't remember the name of the dessert I had (triage...or something like that) but it was incredible as well, with blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, chocolate cake and fresh whipped cream. Visited with family over the holiday and had a great lunch! The fish cake sandy was BOMB. Fried green tomatoes - as all the other reviews say - just go ahead and get them and thank yourself later. Amazing. Service was great. Love all the different lamps on the tables, and unique art. Comfortable and cozy atmosphere. I will certainly come back when we are in town again! Went for brunch and loved the jalapeño garlic Bloody Mary. If you like spicy Bloody Marys then you won't regret ordering it! For brunch we ordered lemon blueberry pancakes, the BLFGT, the breakfast casserole, and a side scrambled eggs for my youngest. The pancakes were great. We had one order split between 2 of my kids and still had enough left over for me and my husband to have some. The kids like them and the Goetta they got with them. I ordered the BLFGT and it was very filling! I didn't eat my side of goetta bc I gave it to my kids but I wasn't missing it at all. My husband said the breakfast casserole was very good too and it must have been because he didn't save a bite for me. My youngest got a side of scrambled eggs and said they were horrible. At first I thought he was just making excuses not to eat but they were covered in so much butter the plate was greasy and then after I got napkins to soak up the butter the eggs were too salty to even be edible. I was told the tomato dill soup was the best so I tried it. So much better than Cambells! I loved the croutons in the soup, absorbing the flavor and softening up but still with crunch. Nice touch. I was hoping for breakfast when I was taken there so I got the closest thing by ordering Cathy's tomato pie. I thought it might be a quiche, but it wasn't. The filling of tomatoe and cheese was good, but too much crust in the little pie. It was more crust than filling. Don't get it if you're starving and really just want the middle. The friendly staff mimics the ambiance of too cool for school with their tattooed arms, rimmed glasses, and indie rock style. The food, much like the atmosphere, is warm, comfortable, and unique. Everything on the menu is delicious, and they're known for their sweet potato fries with honey. They really are amazing. I've dine there before for dinner and the menu was delectable. My only criticism is their lunch menu. I'm not a sandwich fan and that constitutes 95% of the lunch menu. While the appetizer sections boasts fried green tomatoes and candied brie; the entrée section is pigeonholed for choices. I rather like the fewer menu option type places, but there needs to be more variety than hot or cold sandwiches. I opted for the smoked turkey and gouda cheese sandwich with cranberry sauce due to the recommendation of the server. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very tasty and filling. Paired with the heaping mound of sweet potato fries, I was in a food coma before I finished. And I cant believe I didnt take a picture of it! Otto's has a great feel to it. There is something about Otto's though. I always kind of like the dishes but am rarely passionate about them. Perhaps it's because Otto's is located just next to Bouquet which has to be my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. Unfair competition you say? Maybe... Otto's is yet another charming eclectic small restaurant in Covington. The food is excellent. The chef tries to use local ingredients. Unlike other reviews I have read, I have never had bad service there. There is a nice little area to sit outside when the weather is nice which has just been expanded. Their Sunday brunch is very nice and reasonably priced. It can get very busy because of how small it is, but I have always had an enjoyable experience there.
