Came to Cincinnati for a concert, initially planned to go elsewhere to eat but couldn't find parking anywhere. We stumbled upon Libby's and we're so glad we did! They had parking, and although they were full on reservations, 2 spots at the bar opened up and we grabbed them happily! First, the food was FANTASTIC! I had the Willy Burger and my husband had the fried bologna sandwich and we both loved what we ordered and vice versa. The sauce on the burger was phenomenal! The drink menu was extensive and looked so good but we were in a bit of a hurry and I'm 6 months pregnant so we settled for waters. Second, the service was excellent. Everyone was so kind and helpful. The ambience was great, I loved the big open garage door and patio seating they offered. The decor was so cute! We are bummed that brunch reservations for tomorrow are full, but we will absolutely be back! read more

We visited Libby's Southern Comfort on Tuesday. We had reservations for 12:00, but they weren't needed. The restaurant is nicely decorated and is thin. They have a nice outdoor area, which we avoided due to the current heatwave. We ordered two apps - FRIED GREEN TOMATOES - Topped with Libby's pimento cheese, pork belly lardons, bourbon onion jam, and herb oil and FRIED CHICKEN SKINS - Hand breaded and served with hot honey dipping sauce. The fried green tomatoes were nicely plated, though the pork belly lardons and bourbon onion jam did not have the most pleasant color. They were good, but not as great as the description. Fried chicken skin is the thing! I first had it when we lived in California. An Asian market served them up thinly breaded and fried perfectly crispy. I just about jumped out of my skin when I saw it on the menu at Libby's. The breading at Libby's is thick. It's tasty for sure, but it's quite thick. A quick glance at the chicken skins and it looks like full-on chicken. Anyway, they were very good and I would definitely order them again. I had a taste of the hot honey dipping sauce because it spilled. It was good, but for me it detracted from the flavor I'm looking for. I had to have the FRIED BOLOGNA BLT - House smoked bologna, pimento cheese, fried egg, house made BBQ sauce, spring mix lettuce, & sliced green tomato on grilled 16 Bricks sourdough. First, it was huge! I could only eat half. It was very good. All the different flavors mixed together well. It was messy!! Went to Covington for a wedding and the party stopped by for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised as I am not a huge fan of Southern food. (I'm pescatarian and southern cuisine does not mesh well with a no red meat diet) but the fish here was delicious! There were a wide array of options for different diets and everyone at our large table loved their food. We found this restaurant because it was on the list of places to visit for the B-Line trail. We arrived shortly after they opened and were seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. They have drink specials and Thursday was half off a vintage bourbon pour which my boyfriend was excited about. The Carolina Crab cakes which were fresh and had just the right amount of herbs and seasonings to make it light and highlight the crab without leaving a fishy taste in your mouth. We shared the Doc Holladay sandwich and the kitchen was kind enough to go ahead and cut it in half for us. It's truly the little gestures that show the staff are paying attention and care. Our seasonal cocktails were absolutely delicious and if it had not been late in the morning, we would have gotten a couple more. This is brunch vibe for every aesthetic person on social media. Walking in there is a chill vibe and the staff is so friendly and you feel like you are at a friend's dinner party. We went with a group of friends, sat on the patio and played cards while we waited for our food. Perfect end of summer place. The drinks were delicious and refreshing without tasting too strong. The Bee's Knees is my personal recommendation as I think I had two during brunch. Usually I measure a "southern" style place by the chicken and waffles and this was no different. The chicken was crispy the way I like it while still being juicy and flavorful. My only critique is the size of the waffle I wanted more to balance the chicken pieces. I ate a late lunch at the bar. Not crowded so the bartender, another patron, and I had a nice conversation while I ate. The chicken was hot, crispy, flavorful. The sides were good. They cooked it order so it was fresh but the breast was a bit dry. Not overly so, but a 1-star hit. Libby's is a diner-style place with bar seating, as well. Varied menu. The deviled eggs tasted off, my father even found an eyelash on his plate and said his food tasted gritty, and my breakfast was extremely greasy and bland. Overall, the food felt very basic and not worth the experience. The drinks were good, which was a plus. However, we were seated outside and were freezing the entire time. The heater kept being turned on and off depending on other guests, so it was uncomfortable throughout our visit. The outdoor ambiance also didn't feel inviting or pleasant. Fried Chicken? Libby's gots the goods! I've been here a few times now. A lover of fried chicken who is always on the hunt for the good stuff, Libby's does not disappoint. Located just over the river in Covington, KY, Libby's is only a few blocks walk from some of the happenings in Covington, like the Madison Theatre and Madison Live. There's a decent pay parking lot right at the intersection just across the street from Libby's. I went for the fried chicken and that's what I got.... both times. Libby's is nowhere near me so it was worth the 40 minute drive to get there the first time and an easy go-to for the second time around when I was going out for the night in Covington. The fried chicken is super crispy, full of flavor and moist and delicious. Libby's crushes it when it comes to the fried chicken. Here's the thing - I got sides both times. The chicken, being the feature of the meal, was so good that I don't even remember the sides that I got. I can say though that they were good. Libby's is popular. So, plan on a wait or, if available, to take a seat at the bar. Libby's isn't huge but they have space to take on a larger table of people to small high-tops for two or, again, for one or a few to grab a seat at the bar. The staff is friendly and helpful. Excellent service and tasty food. I arrived early and had the Bourbon Cheerwine Slush while I waited. It was unusual, delicious, and felt very local. The server let me read in peace and checked on me a few times, but did not make me feel rushed, even as tables started to fill. Once my friend arrived, we had another round of cocktails, also excellent, and the goetta hush puppies, which were far better than I expected, as I don't even really like goetta. I wanted to like this place SO badly because the location was so cute and the menu looked so good but it was honestly one of the worst meals and worst service I've ever had. The two stars are only for appearance and ease of parking. First, the deviled eggs: the filling was horrendously dry, like there was nothing added to it, and it was flavorless. The main course was the opposite: The shrimp was so overdone that it was a chore to chew it up and the onions on top of the dish were like tiny ropes, rendering them inedible. The entire plate was so overly seasoned that it didn't taste like anything- as though someone just dumped everything they had into a pot of grits and called it good. It completely overwhelmed every flavor that should have existed. Also the seating: our table was by the window, and even with the shade pulled it was still far too hot. The table was a high top and it wobbled so much that I lost my knife and nearly lost my drink. This, we were told, was the only table available without a reservation, though the entire dining room was nearly empty for the duration of the meal. The service was terrible, like there was no manager on duty at all. The staff stood and chatted and generally ignored everyone. The friendliest person was the young man delivering food to the floor. First of all the ambiance here is amazing! Doors open and there is a nice breeze blowing thru. Drink menu seemed to have a lot of rum items. I got shrimp and grits but it was loaded with fried French onion stick things and the shrimp was too charred. And I was looking for a place with great fried chicken with a couple steps above the "we serve the world's best chicken out of the back of our garage" kind of place. Which led us to Libby's. Excellent dinner all the way around! We had 2 orders of the two piece dinners (one light, one dark), one BLT salad and one chicken thigh dinner. The chicken dinners were outstanding. Good sides -- mashed potatoes, black eye pea salad and collard greens -- not outstanding, but really it's the chicken I was there for. The chicken thigh dinner was reported to be excellent by hubs, with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Oh! And we started with the Big Dipper app which was crostini with 3 different spreads: feta, crawfish and pimiento. Delicious! My favorite was the crawfish- nice light flavor. Salad was deemed delicious. The menu changes so don't count in what you see online (the chicken thigh dinner wasn't listed online though I assume the standards stay consistent). Just go and know you'll find something great. We made reservations on a Saturday night, and were directed to an outdoor, plastic'ed in room -- it was ok. Two piece chicken dinner was great! The biscuit was so soft and buttery! I think the green beans and chicken were amazing too! Mac and cheese was good, but nothing crazy. We sat at the bar, which was nice since we didn't need to make a reservation. Hubs and I went to Libby's for Sunday brunch and had a minimal wait without reservations about one hour before closing. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were tart and delicious. For mains, I had the stuffed french toast which to me, was a complete ripoff. I paid $19 for two thin slices of brioche stuffed with marscapone, three itty bitty berries and that was literally it. I mean, if you're gonna charge $19, at least use challah bread and include eggs and bacon at that price. I added a chicken thigh for $7 and while it was quite delicious, it still felt over priced. However, where my dish fell flat, the Mr. absolutely loved his shrimp/grits. I tasted the grits and they were the best seasoned grits I've had. It would be great to offer fish/grits dish for us shellfish allergy folks. We ordered a peach cornbread cobbler to-go and it was a no from the both of us. It definitely needed more sugar and spices like nutmeg/cinnamon to have it taste even remotely like a peach cobbler. I agree - the fried chicken was great. But that was offset by the collard greens that were too salty to eat more than two bites. The unforgiveable part was seating a party of senior citizens in an unheated room. Our server attempted to start the space heaters. When that failed she opened the valves to drain the propane, filling the room with fumes. She stated that someone would come and replace them with full tanks. In the hour and twenty minutes that we were there that person never appeared. Luckily it was 62F (mild for February), but still cold for an indoor space. If - and that is a big IF - I ever go back it will be in the summer. Sidenote; my group attempted to make a reservation because we were a dozen people. The system required a credit card to hold a table. Our organizer could not get it to work. It took five tries to get someone to answer the phone to confirm the reservation. Looking for some fried chicken but also something different than the usual, we tried out Libby's. The service was excellent. The ambiance could use a break from the squeal of train brakes (but that's not the restaurant's fault). My wife's peach sangria was very good. Alas, my beer was warm. The food was tasty, the Mac n cheese was divine. The only real issue we had was value for the money. For example, we split an entree salad as an appetizer and the serving was very small for $17. Somehow we were expecting something alighned with the size of a large salad at Dewey's. Instead it was maybe 1/2 that size. The chicken was good, but very small pieces. Not as advertised, keep your money in your wallet!! Knew I was going to be in the area this evening so checked out the menu's for a few local Covington spots earlier in the day. Saw Libby's and was excited to try it, the online menu looked fabulous, who doesn't like southern comfort food and top notch fried chicken? Ambiance was nice and we were greeted and walked to our table quickly. The server was nice, got our drinks and appetizer order (crab cakes), so we were off to a good start. While waiting for our crab cakes we decided on our entrees, my son decided on the chicken penne alfredo and obviously I had to try the fried chicken. When she brought our crab cakes I expected she would ask for our entree orders before she left. She didn't, oh well it is simple food after all so maybe ticket times in the kitchen aren't bad. The $22 crab cakes were solid, no complaints. After finishing our crab cakes we waited for a solid 10 minutes before she came back to get our dirty dishes and entree order. We had been at the restaurant for a solid 30 minutes at this point. Again, it is simple food so all was still well as I didn't expect any of it to take that long. Now, mind you, it was not busy in the least, the restaurant was more than half empty and nothing beyond appetizers and desserts had left the kitchen this entire time. We know this because they sat us directly in front of the kitchen. We waited for 30 minutes between placing our entree orders and them actually arriving at our table. To be truthful, I wanted to just pay for our drinks and crab cakes and leave by this point but also wanted to have a relaxing evening, so we stayed. This whole entire time the only entrees to leave the kitchen were for an 8 top seated adjacent to us-we've been there for close to an hour at this point. 4-5 minutes after the 8 top received their food, my son and I received ours. He ordered the $26 chicken penne alfredo and I ordered the $27 half chicken w/ yukon gold mashed potatoes, collard greens and an extra side of "southern" macaroni. The portion size of his pasta was something from a lunch menu and whoever prepared the "alfredo" has not a clue as to what alfredo is. His chicken was maybe a 6oz portion. Weakest pasta alfredo dish I have ever seen or tasted in my life-easily. The fried chicken was good, collard greens were really good and the biscuit was legit. I saw every single side item on my plate come from a steam table and the chicken was fried well before our arrival and sitting in a pan under a heat lamp. Again, I could see everything as we were sitting right there in front of the kitchen. The mashed potatoes were old and gluey, my guess is they were at least 2 hours old and over beaten/mashed. Popeye's mashed potatoes destroy these mashed potatoes if that paints a picture of how mid they were. The $5 side of 4oz of "macaroni" was actually criminal. I could have made something better drunk off my ass with random ingredients from my cupboard. No, seriously-it was that bad. I saw a few dishes from dirty tables going back to the kitchen and noticed nobody had finished their macaroni, now I know why. She brings us a box for my leftover chicken after she offered us dessert and we politely declined. Since we had already said that we didn't want any dessert, I assumed she would bring the check with the box. No again, we had to wait 5 more minutes for that too. There are literally 4-5 tables in the whole place at this point with 4 kitchen staff, a bartender and 3 servers there. All in all, we were there for an hour and twenty minutes for 2 of us. Everything on my entree was literally just sitting there on a hot table and my son asked for alfredo pasta with a piece of grilled chicken. Crazy long time for all of this to go down. Our bill came to $82.90 for this so far. Then they have the nerve to add a $3 processing fee for using a credit card to pay the check. Now I'm really not happy. Where I come from that is called the cost of doing business. Add $5 for tax and now I just paid over $92 for this very, very mid to below mid food before a tip. Actually feel violated. Could have gone to any number of other restaurants and gotten way better food, for the same or less money and been in and out in 45 minutes. Will not be spending any money there again. read more

This place serves delicious food in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere. Started with the gotta hush puppies which were a terrific idea and taste, though a little salty. Hubby had the burger (4.2/5) and fries (5/5). I had the fried green tomato sandwich (5/5) and Mac and cheese (4.5/5). On a recent trip to Cincinnati with some friends, we stoped in Libby's for lunch. Besides having a friendly staff, the food was most excellent. We started off with fried chicken skins, as good as they sound. I had the shrimp roll which was most excellent. Others in my party had the Oyster Po' Boy, The Willy Burger and the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich. The rest of my group really enjoyed their meals based on the empty plates. Looking forward to going back to Rich's to try some of their additional offerings. read more

Wow!! Wow wow wow. Let me add that I am very particular on southern food. I know what I like and what I don't. And Libby's has officially raised the bar. Staff was extremely attentive and the service was top notch. Greeted almost immediately, sat practically immediately. The oysters are immaculate. Fried chicken, deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, everything. 10/10. Shout out to Abby, our server, for taking our visit above and beyond.
