Long story short, we have come to learn that we should only come here for drinks. We have been 3 times, it's the same thing every time . I new, overwhelmed waitress.. that knows nothing about the wine or beer. Dinner food has been sub par and expensive. Totally lackluster . Bland, underwhelming , and not cooked correctly to order. Small appetizers on top of it all. For instance , we tried the tuna tartare appetizer, it was all mango and very little tuna. The salmon, bland. The steak, over cooked. The chop salad. Ha! Tiny and $11 and the $8 steak up-charge was 4 tiny steak tips and it didn't taste good! Then only thing good that we have had here was the Mediterranean shrimp pasta which was great! Very disappointed. Went here tonight for a dinner out with my husband and after a 60 min+ wait for our food we left without eating. My husband's pasta was crunchy and after having to settle for the sirloin tip due to them not having menu advertised short rib; my dish was over cooked and under whelmimg in flavor. I've been coming to Oscars for the past 3 years, it's my favorite restaurant in Dedham. The food is as fantastic as the atmosphere.

I've eaten here before and it was ok however this will be my last time. The place was filthy..... the table was sticky regardless of being wiped and 5 out of 5 glasses we're dirty. I had the pleasure of having the sun shining through the window which highlighted all of the smudges on the glassware including old lipstick...... c'mon this is restaurant 101. The food lacked creativity and flavor. The short rib had an odd tasting sauce. It came out piping hot but ironically enough the veggies were hard and raw (almost as if it were microwaved). Raw to the point my fork would not penetrate it in order to eat it. The fish tacos were served with no garnishes! Not even a lemon. Kind of just thrown on a plate. The piece of fish looked as if it were borrowed from the fish & chips platter!! I should of gone with my gut after reading the handwritten sign in the window "full time and part time cook wanted". I didn't bother the sever with my complaints as she was lovely and truthfully what could she do? She wasn't the cook or the owner. But man, this place is gross!! My experience this past weekend was very similar to Meg H's review. After ample patronage, it's disappointing to be told that the beer I ordered was not available because it wasn't tapped. I mentioned to the young server that I would wait yet she immediately told us they likely would not have time to do so. Like Meg mentioned, the owner and bartender were just hanging out. We ordered the Brussels sprouts with bacon, yet there was no bacon when served. While I do wish them well, it's hard to watch an establishment posture without producing. read more

I really wanted to like this place! Looked like such a nice addition to Dedham Square. The appetizers were decent; the brussels sprouts, the clam chowder and the cauliflower. However, I got the burger and it had the strangest seasoning on it that I could not identify. It was overpowering. I could not even eat it and left more than half behind which I've never done in my life with a cheeseburger. I don't know how a pub screws up a burger like that... if they're going to do something strange they should at least put it in the description to warn people. Disappointed. read more

I would describe the ambience at Oscar's (in Dedham Square) as cozy & modern; I was very comfortable sitting by the fireplace on a cold January day... I had the burger & fries (substituted the regular fries with poutine fries) and paired them with "Bella Czech Pils" (Wachusett Brewing Company). No complaints here. Solid craft beer menu. Best bar in the square! The Irish bartender is so friendly and makes the BEST drinks. You are always welcomed when you come in...never have to wait around for a drink. We walked in and they informed us that there was an hour wait, but they had two seats at the window bar.. So we asked if we could sit there and they said it was fine and we were promptly seated. We were handed menus right away, which we perused for about 10 minutes. I waited for another 5 minutes before setting a 10 minute timer. No one came over to bring water, take our drink order, or even to check in with us. Don't go there unless you want to be ignored for 25 minutes to a half an hour. Very disappointed. I came her on an early Sunday. I order a beer, they only had it in a can. I asked for a cold glass and got one that I think may have come out of a dishwasher. Asked for a second one because my beer was warm and literally got another warm glass. Nachos were the smallest portion order I have ever seen. Wings were average. My Husband and I had a lovely dinner here with our 5 month old. There was plenty of room for the three of us. My husband enjoyed their local craft beers and I had a delicious cocktail. We got the bruschetta which was a tasty earthy take on the classic bruschetta. For dinner he got the Oscar's burger and I got the Alfredo special. The food came out hot and the kitchen had taken great care in preparing our food with my husbands nut allergy. We will definitely go back. Great vegetarian options as well. read more

Had a reservation for 4 adults and 2 toddlers. Specifically asked for two high chairs. We got there and they had a high top for us - the high chairs were UNDER the table. We said we couldn't sit there because our kids would be underneath the table...they ignored us for 30 minutes and then said they don't take reservations for parties less than 6. Not welcoming at all! Did not even know they had a "host". Dude standing near bar looks at us, never says anything..we think he is a customer but nope.. he is the host! Never says " dinner or drinks??"" How many people?"" Have you been here before?" Nothing welcoming....we should of walked out right then!! And then we get "you need to see the menu?" Ok, yes. Loved the inside, great waitstaff, great beer list, and the music playing was awesome . Unfortunately, the food was not great. The burger had a weird seasoning to it that tasted a little bit like taco meat, and the meat itself seemed to be really poor quality. The noodles for the bolognese were delicious, but again the meat tasted like it was a really poor quality. The wings were tiny and were sitting in a little puddle of oil, really greasy and not much flavor. The curry sauce with the fries was too sweet, not like other curry fries I've had at Irish restaurants. It's a really great little spot with a lot of potential but the food needs work. read more

This place is only for the snobby! A friend and I visited last night and it was super busy. We got drinks and waited an hour to be seated. While waiting, we listened to one of the owners, who was hosting, tell people to come back another time or that she had no idea how long the wait would be. We were finally seated and ordered the house made hummus. The hummus was bland and a small portion; we had to add salt to make it have some flavor. My friend ordered a burger, and I had the fettuccine bolognese. The entrees were amazing, but pricey. We noticed that people around us were offered water, but we never were. The waitress, Lauren, was also not very knowledgeable, and wouldn't stay when we had questions. When we finished our meals, we were asked if we wanted anything else, we declined, and then were told that we would need to move to the bar if we wanted to stay and drink, that they needed the table. After that, only the owner would come to our table. The bar had my card, so when we asked for the check we also asked for the card, and the owner came by and threw it at us. We were very turned off by the service, but the entrees were worth it, which is why the 2 stars. Stay away!! read more

So disappointed. I took my niece and two of my sisters here yesterday - 12/7 - for one of my sister's birthday. We all just had massages at Keldera and were SO looking forward to eating a delicious lunch accompanied with yummy cocktails and laughs. Instead we were treated so rudely. We left after one drink that we barely finished! The girl that seemed to be running the place clearly had a chip on her shoulder. She didn't like that we asked for a Holiday / Seasonal drinks. (Their Summer Cocktails list was still on the menu.) It was freezing outside and when I asked her to light a fire, she said no because it wasn't her job. This is the 2nd time I ran into not pleasant waitstaff and this would be my last. I live in Dedham, there are so many other places to go that appreciate my business and have much better service. In today's day - what is happening with your service? Can you really afford, as a new restaurant, to risk business like this? I sell high-end bathroom fixtures, my niece is a waitress, one sister is a teacher and the other is paralegal for a huge restaurant chain. You can bet we are looking for better service. Had an enjoyable lunch indoors at socially distanced table. Three very large lamb samosas with a sweet/sour sauce were yummy and very filling. A side order of broccoli was nicely steamed and crunchy. The experience started out great. Our party of 6 was seated promptly with reservations by the fire place. Waitress was attentive and pleasant and food was good. The owner/ manager came over before dinner and asked if he thought we would be done by 8 since there was another party booked for 8 at our table. Was really excited to check out Oscars as it has been pretty hyped up for a bit. The restaurant has a really cool look to it as well as a great bar but unfortunately I found the menu to be super limited and the food to be very underwhelming. I did go there a few days after opening so maybe the chef and their team are working out some kinks but I feel like that may not be the case. I am hoping the Horses Thieves Tavern which is opening across the street will do their homework from Oscars and bring more to the table. read more

Oscar's is a fantastic GastroPub. The beer selection was top notch, and I loved how they showed the Untappd rating of each beer. The food was hearty, delicious and fairly priced. My wife and I brought our infant son and the staff took care of all of our needs. Oscar's is excellent, and we will absolutely be back. read more

Exciting to see some new additions to Dedham Square and I always expect some bumps in the road when a new restaurant opens. They're ironing out the kinks. But halfway through our meal, that excuse ran thin. There were just too many bumps to earn more than three stars. Some problems are easily fixable (fish and chips needed salt and pepper, waitress didnt seem too confident or experienced, the charcuterie board is described as meats and cheeses but had no cheese and only pates and salmon blended). The area where suburb restaurants can't hold up against the city ones is the attention to detail in service. Attitude, smiles, and personality of hostess and waitress are huge. Offer to give suggestions on the menu if needed. Little things (needing an extra fork or drink) shouldn't be an inconvenience. The place has amazing potential. Great beer list. Most of food was tasty but just needed tweaking. Interior is cool. But 5 stars isn't there yet. read more

Very happy with my experience here. This is NOT a family restaurant for kids; rather, it is an upscale bar room with a limited, but excellent food menu and an expansive, craft beer menu. Leave the kids at home with a babysitter. A lazy Sunday afternoon found us here. I ordered a double-IPA off of the expansive, craft beer menu. Along with my beer, I enjoyed a piping hot, veggie burger with tasty fries & my companion received an equally fresh, grilled chicken sandwich with fries. Service was prompt and efficient. Yes, all of the usual hiccups in service where there, but these are always to be expected while a new restaurant is in its infancy. However, there was none of the eagerness or humility, none of the welcoming excitement, none of the wish to please that one usually finds at a restaurant, especially a new one!! Instead, a kind of cool haughtiness filled the air. Oscars, I would have forgiven the bad service, if not for the food. Why do we roast vegetables? We roast them to get a nice caramel flavor. My roasted vegetables sat like soggy slugs in my arugala, offending the fact that nature's summer produce requires so little effort to shine-one wonders if it takes more energy to mess it up. If you are going to put roasted summer squash in an arugala salad, please specify the 'roasted vegetables.' Because it is soggy, cold, and gross. The things that were supposed to be croutons that were just literally huge chunks of stale bread (not lovely rustic toasty cubes that can and should be made with day old bread and olive oil). The chicken was dry. I suggest if you must go here, stick to pub fare. Where Oscar's aspire s to be anything more, they really flop. I understand the enthusiasm for a new restaurant in the square. But what I don't understand is how people can give this four stars. Go to Tres Gatos in Jamaica Plain, have their cheese plate and tell me it compares. Small bites at La Morra in Brookline? An art form and their hand crafted cocktails where each component is thoughtfully paired to enhance and not overpower the other? Ten Tables Burger? Four honest stars. Food is life, and if we call something four stars because we wish it was four stars, we risk never having the real thing. Oscars, mother nature gave us asparagus for crispness, for their unmistakeable asparagus flavor. Squash for it color, for its tender summer freshness. All the vegetables taste of some vague oil, the white bean dip that one cannot find the taste of the white bean...If you must go, steer clear of anything but burger and fried fish. You do not improve on mother nature's bounty by stripping it of its flavor. I wish you luck and quietly wait for some four star restaurant to come in so that the people of Dedham will remember again what four stars can really do, and more and more stars will authentically sparkle in our square. Dinner was good , waitress was nice and friendly. The thing that disappointed me and my husband was the dessert. The description was entirely different from the actual dessert , and was unpleasant! We spoke to the manager who had a bad attitude, instead of "I am sorry it was not what you thought , let me take care if it", he was defensive and rude. Went there the other week....and great addition to Dedham Square. Food was fresh and cooked perfectly.....medium was actually medium, not med. well! Good selection of beers on tap and bartenders were very helpful with selections...not typical hipster beer snobs. One con would be the prices..........a little too high. Should be about 20% less on most items. read more
