My friends and co-workers and I have been getting Osaka pretty regularly on a Saturday lately, and it's been great, but yesterday I had a terrible experience. I ordered it for lunch on a monday afternoon at around 1pm, and by 7:30 I was vomiting etc, and had nothing else to eat that day. I kept on purging from both ends until 2am. My sister told me it was txt book food poisoning, and to never eat sushi on a monday because they get their fish delivery on a tuesday. I wish I'd known that because now I'm off one of my old fav's for life. Will never be able to eat sushi again. No wonder she recommended the black pepper salmon roll. read more

Authentic sit down experience-tatami mats and all. Sushi is fresh and flavorful, many different options/varieties. Fair pricing. Pleasant staff. We've been three times in a week. The sushi is fabulous. Soups are a dream to your taste buds, especially the spicy seafood. Overall, you shouldn't be disappointed. read more

Amazing sushi!!!! I LOVE this place! Not only is the food good at a sit down dinner, but the take out is awesome too (which is not always the case). The fish is always fresh and they don't skimp on the soy sauce packets (like Hana Cafe does). Soy sauce is important to me. It may be a buck or two pricier than cheap places like Hana, but the quality is 10x's better and the delivery is always SUPER fast. TOTALLY worth it! I'm obsessed! We go here all the time! The staff is so nice and polite and helpful. Very kid friendly. The food is excellent! Anything we order is amazing. I am native Japanese, and I can tell the chef of this restaurant had never learned Japanese food properly at real Japanese restaurant. I don't know if the workers are Chinese, or Thai, or Nepal.. but the food was not authentic Japanese food at all!! I guess it's ok place if you don't expect real Japanese food. Tried, tried and tried again. DON'T ORDER OVER THE PHONE!!!! In decent restaurants when you order over the phone they will give you an idea of how long before your delivery arrives, not in this case. After a series of phone calls and false promises of food we asked the manager to work with us by offering some sort of discount. The food eventually arrived over an hour and a half later and the manager refused to provide any discount not even the appetizers on the house. After a very unpleasant yelling match on the phone he instructed the delivery guy to take the food back. We really tried to work with this very unhelpful and extremely uncooperative restaurant. We were left hungry and annoyed. Will not be ordering there again. read more

I had to give a star, because I couldn't post. But I ordered online from Osaka on Valentine's Day and waited 45 mins until I called to check on the order, they said it already left and it should be here soon. Ok. 20 mins pass, called back and they told us they cancelled all Seamless orders because they got too busy. Asked why they said our order already left, no answer, basically they just screwed all other customers because they could. Terrible service, terrible customer service. Best sushi in BaCoCa hands down. Don't waste your money at Ki, Osaka's fish is much fresher. The sashimi lunch box is a steal, as is the sushi deluxe dinner. Be prepared to wait for a table on Friday or Saturday evenings, but it moves quickly. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. They have alcohol specials during the week as well. read more

The food is great, and there are many options to choose from. My family and I go there all the time to eat. They have great tofu and other things for vegetarians and also chicken and fish for meat eaters. The workers are incredibly nice and helpful and they always make the food quickly. One time, they chased me down the block to bring me my gloves that I had left at the restaurant. They have an outdoor area where you can eat when it's nice out. The place is great! read more

We ordered at 8:30P. We received an email that said the order would arrive in 30-45 minutes. After an hour, we called and were told that the order was on it's way. 30 minutes later, we called again and were told that all seamless orders had been cancelled because they were too busy. Not only were we lied to, we received no communication telling us that the order was not coming. Kyoto right near by is cheaper, faster, and better. read more

Good sushi. The food was good, the service was good too. I ended up going to Osaka because I heard it was the same owners as Yamato. I'd prefer Yamato any day of the week. Actually met the owners at Osaka (a Russian dude) --- nice guy. I would definitely return here again if I were in the area. read more

5 stars for their sushi, but had to take 1 star off for their super slow service (and by slow, I mean I finished my entire bottle of beer before any food came out). Let me start off by saying Osaka has AMAZING special rolls. My new thing is to stay away from my normal rolls and venture outside the box (sorry salmon avocado and spicy yellowtail rolls - we're just on a temporary break...but I still miss you!). This spot has two of my favorite special rolls! The millennium roll (blue fin toro & avocado roll with spicy crunchy scallop on top, $14) - TO DIE FOR. If one were to describe a sushi mouth-gasm, this roll would be it for me. I would try anything with blue fin toro, but the spicy scallop on top was like the icing on the cake. PERFECTION! My other favorite is the white river roll (spicy crunchy sea scallop topped with white tuna and avocado, $13) - everyone raves about this roll and it is def worthy! If you're not starving (like I was) and can handle the wait, def try their special roll menu out. I can't wait to come back! read more

Have enjoyed delivery from Osaka multiple times but thought we should try it in the restaurant as sushi is always better that way. Not so much - service was not great (although sake and beer came relatively quickly) although the waitress had the entire restaurant to serve so maybe they were understaffed. Sashimi was ok but seemed not too fresh and the white tuna seemed frozen and tasted a little weird (couldn't put my finger on it). The crunch in the spicy salmon tasted old like it was fried in unfresh oil (I only ate half my roll even though I was hungry). The miso cold was very good although the yam noodles cloyingly sweet. Honestly the worst part about it was the bathroom! Downstairs through a dirty hallway and the bathroom was not clean. Overall the restaurant needs a redo and clean up, when eating sushi you expect a very clean environment. I don't think we will be going back or ordering delivery until they clean this place up! read more

First off, I loved the atmosphere. It was modern yet warm and comfortable. It wasn't crowded at all when I went so I was a bit hesitant. We were seated at a table towards the back but my friend saw these tables with cushioned seating up front and asked to be sat there. The waiter was great and let us move. I believe there are 2 tables that are like that by the window. They were higher up on a platform and you have to take your shoes off but whatever, it made dinner more fun. OK now for the food... I can't say it was anything special but it was good. We ordered fried banana and a chocolate volcano. The fried banana was good but quite sugary. The chocolate volcano was great. NOTE: This takes about 30minutes, I believe, to be made so when you order your main course, let your waiter know that you want this for dessert. Luckily my friend had been there before and knew it so it was prepared for us right after our main meal. I liked this because it wasn't overwhelming sugary and the cake was very moist. Had their lunch special delivered twice and I truly love it especially their salmon teriyaki, its always fresh with no fishy smell to it. My boyfriend and I stumbled in here after the hurricane when most places were closed and we couldn't have been happier! The food was amazing, this is the best sushi I have ever had! The specials were awesome, the sushi with mango was perfect. Such a cute little restaurant, the edamame was steamed to perfection as well. I don't know why this place doesn't have straight 5 star reviews. I don't eat a ton of sushi but Ive had enough to know whats good and this was awesome! Worth every penny. read more

I went in alone, and ordered the sashimi deluxe ($20), thinking i was so ravenous i could easily finish that and then some. boy was i surprised when it came ( how about you just give me the WHOLE fish the next time). 18 pieces of heavenly delight, it was a pity i didn't have someone to share it with. come with another friend and get the $30 omakase, 9 pieces of sashimi, 4 sushi, 2 maki rolls and a soup and you're all set $15 per person fills you up guaranteed, that would be unheard of in manhattan for sushi this quality! read more

My last and--barring any magical loss of principles--final trip to Osaka left me with such a bad smell in my nose that I didn't even finish my dinner. Let me back up. I've waited enough tables in my day to respect good service while also empathizing with servers who are overwhelmed, overworked, or just do damn tired and pissed that they just want the customers to leave. I've been accused by friends who haven't worked in restaurants that I can be an annoyance to eat with because I see things more from the waiter's perspective than the customers. That said, I very disturbed by the service at Osaka. To the point of being genuinely offended. Twenty-five minutes before the advertised closing time, I was presented my check and not allowed to order anything else to drink (my dinner hadn't even arrived). While I was still eating, the rank--and I mean rank--I'm really not a whiner and I saw all the employees covering their noses here--garbage was dragged, dripping a lovely mix of fluid behind it, across the dining room and to the innocent outside corner. Over and over again, the bags kept coming. At that point I really would have left no tip at all but...guess what? After sustained pressure (apparently the cashier was going to explode without it), my credit card slip had been apprehended. The food? Not bad. But why ever go here when Ki is a five minute walk away? All the folks at Osaka had to do was tell me that walking in forty minutes before closing time was going to be met with olfactory torture. I really love Osaka. It was the second New York restaurant I ever went to (first was a nondescript Chinese place near Penn Station), back in the late 90's. Yes, the late 90's. The Cobble Hill-Carroll Gardens border was kinda edgy then! They have a great lunch special and really good quality sushi. Delicious seaweed salad. read more

FOOD POISONING!!! I almost never write reviews, but just occasionally something happens that is either so great or so bad that you have to share...in this case, sorry to say, our time at Osaka was BAD. My boyfriend and I got terrible food poisoning after eating here last night. We figured out that it was likely the Botan Maki - either the crab or the mayo that they used had turned. Such a shame - we've eaten here before and liked it, and it's always sad when a local business drops the ball, but you just can't go around giving your customers food poisoning. It is great for an online order, but when I went for dinner, it was very disappointing. The sushi was ok, but the biggest problem was the athmosphere. On the right, there was a very loud couple (speaking in Arabic), and on the left - some weird bunch of teenagers almost screaming... and babies in the back of the restaurant.
