Terrific service at a great price! I needed a new battery for my 2013 Macbook. The Apple Store does not repair units as elderly as mine, and they recommended a "certified Apple repair center" in Allston. I called them, and they told me it would take 2-3 business days AFTER they receive my computer (so obviously, they won't order the part until my computer is physically in their hands) and it would be $299. I called Orromac: $250 and they could get it back to me in 24 hours. So I dropped it off at 5:45pm yesterday. Osama called me at noon to tell me it was ready. It started up like a charm. So MUCH faster turnaround at $50 less. I am surprised other reviewers found this proprietor to be unfriendly. He could not have been nicer. We first heard of these guys on the Newton parents Fb group. But I had no idea that they would go beyond the call of duty. We had to laptop that needed repair. They not only gave us realistic estimate of what it would cost to do the work but encouraged us to consider I refurbished replacement online instead. I even ran my research but them and they confirmed that Rakuten what is the vendor they had good experiences with too. And in the end the fight them taking time to diagnosed both laptop which included some taking a part of the hardware, when I decided we would the recycling them and offered that they keep them, they said there's no charge for the diagnosis so I simply left them a cash tip. I'm literally sitting in Orramac eating a falafel (from Fordee's of course) and just brought in a trashed MacBook (Hinge looks twisted, missing chunks of the case, display won't light up...) for Osama, the owner to look at. Not only is he fixing it on the spot, he's replacing the entire top case & keyboard for FREE, under some Apple Repair Extension Program I didn't know about. The bezel around the screen is being replaced for FREE again, apparently Apple makes crappy plastics. The hinges were actually okay, it was the top case bending it. So I only got charged $229 for a new LCD, it was indeed shot and he proved it right in front of me by testing it against a new LCD panel. (He does LCD repairs all the time apparently.) The most amazing thing was that he actually had all the parts in stock and repaired it while I waited. I was not sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews below, but this was really the closest shop to me that seemed to be reputable. I am fairly technical, but after trouble-shooting a hardware issue with a computer I built myself, I soon began spending way too much time and effort trying to isolate the problem. Everyone values computer repair services differently, but Orramac diagnosed the problem quickly, for a fee of $50. For some, that is a lot, but based on the time it would have taken me to diagnose it myself (pulling out components, trial and error, etc), I was happy to spend the money. The staff kept me informed at all times, and I received status updates from the owner himself. This was the kind of attention that pleased me as a customer. My work partners with this place so I was sent there to fix a cracked top case on my MacBook. Since my personal Mac was having its own issues, I brought that there too. Osama is a really calm, friendly man. When I walked in, he seemed very serious, but he warmed up and we had a really delightful exchange of pleasantries when I dropped both computers off. I was worried to be without any computer for a day so Osama reassured me that at least one of them would be done within a day. The next day, they called me to tell me both computers were done. Osama even fixed the cracked case on my personal computer for free even though that was not the main issue. (The battery had died.) I received prompt, courteous service for a very fair price and I would recommend Orramac to anybody who is having computer issues! So I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro. Miraculously, it still functioned, but I was concerned that whatever amount of coffee I was unable to dump out in the sink would cause damage by corroding the parts over time, so I needed to get it checked out before that happened (plus, my computer reeked of coffee). I first brought it to Microcenter in Cambridge and they charged me $70 for a diagnostic only to tell me that it would need to be sent out for an estimate on the logic board - an $800 part. So I called Apple and asked if there was someone who would be willing to try to clean the computer instead of just shipping it out for new parts. That's when they recommended Orramac. The people there were incredibly sympathetic and didn't chastise me for having coffee near my computer. (Honestly, who intends to spill liquid on their computer?) Within 24 hours, they cleaned out the system and returned my MacBook Pro to me, as good as it was and now only slightly fragrant. We'll see how things proceed from here on out (they warned that some keys might get wonky, but were optimistic about the durability of the logicboard), but the fact that they attempted to salvage the computer instead of automatically trying to sell me an $800 part, I think, speaks volumes. I was sent to Orramac upon recommendation by the people at the mac store themselves. I had the misfortune of falling out of bed while sleeping. Much to my surprise I woke up face down on top of my computer. The glass on the screen had been smashed and Orramac quoted a price about 3-4 times less expensive than getting it repaired at the mac store (whoopee!). The staff is very friendly and I like the fact that it is a small local business that is owner operated. I was called in the next day as the person they had outsourced the computer to fix had done a poor job, so they offered to fix it themselves with better materials at no extra charge. I have to give them props for owning up to a mistake and making it right. My computer is now as good as new! read more

This was my first trip, but I was really impressed. I was in the market for a refurbed Mac and they had just what I needed. Got a quick & easy memory upgrade on the spot for just the cost of the RAM, plus a complimentary new display cable, PLUS they loaned me the firewire 800/400 cable to transfer the stuff from my old machine. Osama clearly cares about good service. When I first walked in to the shop, he was replacing a couple keys on someone's laptop - free of charge, from the sound of it. I wish I could give 10 stars. I fully exhausted my helpdesk at work and the genius bar at the Apple store and then 1.5 hours on the phone with Apple support who STILL couldn't solve my problem. I wasted hours and hours between all those consultations. I brought my MacBook Air and my problem to Osama at Orramac and he fixed it during the time I was in my class, attending to it immediately. He has a great manner. He charged me $100 for one hour and I consider this an amazing value. I was unable to use many features on my company's platform and now I can. The Mac Store was unable to help her, but when she went to Orramac, they were able to recover all her data within just a few days; remarkable. The same thing happened to me, and the folks at Orramac went above and beyond in making sure they specifically looked for certain files I needed. They even used various methods to get one specifically large data file I needed, while still keeping the price reasonable even though it took them many hours to do. This is a good place for computer repair. They offer fast, honest and reasonable service. Me and my husband's laptop had problems and they fixed it for us. Mine was perfectly fine but my husband had a tricky problem, they offered a warranty on the service - like they told us that if it happens again we can have it repaired for free and they won't charge us. Of course it acted up again, we brought it in, waited for parts and as soon as it is as ready, they called us. Now, it is as good as new! read more

Don't be thrown off by the look of this shop (wires and cords and parts all over the place). It seems to be a one man shop and that one man is great. My computer was unbelievably slow and freezing and generally just driving me crazy. I really didn't want to replace it so thought I'd give this place a shot. I've used Orramac several times, all with very positive reviews. The owner is very responsive, the turnaround time is fast, and the prices are reasonable. My first experience with Orramac occurred a couple of years ago when my son knocked a glass of water over on the table and the water seeped into the back of my macbook pro. I called them, and they took care of the problem quickly. The next occurrence was when my Time Capsule died, and I needed to access all of my data on the harddrive. I brought it in and they copied the data onto a local hard drive. When Apple replaced my broken Time Capsule with a new one, they copied my data onto my new TC. Recently, my son knocked my coffee into my laptop (while building a fort in the living room where I was working; he threw a pillow across the room which hit my coffee cup. argh!). Once again, they assessed the damage and took care of the problem quickly. I've been very happy with their level of service, and will continue to use them. read more

A friend had been raving re: Orramac for some time before I had a reason to go: My Dell laptop fell and stopped charging. Fearing the worst in time and price, I waited months to have it looked over, as it worked fine when plugged in. I felt like a total twit when I finally went to Aaron and Osama, who handed it back to me the next day for a pittance! When my antivirus program went 'viral' itself and gummed up my desktop computer, refusing to upload any new software and generally acting out, they were my 'go to' guys. This place is amazing. I went here with my computer which had completely blue screened and I wasn't sure what was going on but I feared the worst. He took a couple days to figure it out but called me with what he thought was wrong, which was that my computer needed a new screen. He replaced the screen but the computer still was not working. He figured out what was actually wrong with it in the same day, which turned out to be the modem, and fixed it. It was ready for pickup that day and he only charged me half of what a new screen would cost. I am very thankful for Orramac for basically giving me a brand new computer! read more

I've used Orramac many times over the years. The owner is very knowledgeable and very low key. I have seen a number of employees over the years: I usually deal with the owner. He has taken the time to discuss options with me, and often suggests another place that can sell me something for less than his price. Some of the reports mention difficulties. It may be a good idea to take a minute and boot your laptop or PC before leaving next time, or perhaps take it to someplace that will gush a bit more than these guys do. What they may lack in polish they make up in ability and price. I am about to call him up for advice on a repair to my father's machine in another city: work which he probably won't wind up doing. He will take the time to lay out my options, even though he won't make a dime on me this time. I'm a customer for life. read more

Took my fried hard drive in to see if he could recover it. He explained the procedure, explained the chances and gave it a try with three different programs. Unfortunately he could not retrieve the data, but he offered me the chance to send it his colleague, but advised it would be much more expensive. Super nice guy. I offered to pay for the diagnosis, but he refused since he said he couldn't fix it. Anyone that has problems with pricing at Orramac, needs to work on their communication skills. He was very clear, did his best, and didn't charge when he couldn't fix it. All of this done in less than 24 hours. I will return!!! read more

Main work server goes down Friday night at 7PM - crisis! I literally turn chalk white when my employee calls me to tell me the hard drive is making a loud noise - all I'm thinking is "hard drive crash - all of our important data is GONE!". For anybody in this situation knows, this is like hearing about a death of someone you know - your mind literally goes blank and all you want to do is cry. And yes, I do back up daily but there was a TON of data changes to our main database throughout the day that would not have been backed up. After calming down, I jump on Yelp and look for hard drive recovery in Watertown, MA and up comes Orramac Computer Services. I had never heard of Orramac even though I pass the store on a daily basis. Based on the reviews, I figured they would be my best shot for any sort of data recovery off of this hard drive in a quick turnaround based on the positive reviews. I brought my computer to Orramac as soon as they opened on Saturday morning and explained the situation. The owner (Osama) told me to leave him with the computer and he would call me in a couple of hours. Within an hour, he called me with the amazing news - the data I needed could be recovered! He called me with hourly updates as to the progress and told me to come pick it up before he closes. When I got there at closing, the data was still transferring. Instead of telling me to come back when he reopens Monday (since he knew that I needed to get this data onto a new hard drive so that I could get our systems back up and running immediately), he actually stayed an extra hour PAST CLOSING TIME to allow the job to finish up! If that is not TOP NOTCH CUSTOMER SERVICE, then I don't know what is!!! To top it off, the rate was so reasonable that I could not believe it. I very gladly gave him my credit card and was ready to give him a big hug :) The owner, Osama, was knowledgeable and very personable and made the entire process relaxing and calm (which for me was a nail biter since I was so nervous). While waiting for the drive to finish transferring the data, we swapped stories about running a small business, talked family, and so on - bonus! If anything like this ever happens again (which I hope never does!), I know where I will be going and I surely know where I will be recommending anybody in this not-so-fun situation. This is a very helpful computer repair place the best that I have encountered. I brought my laptop to the ORRAMAC. They were honest and told me that it was a har disk failure. I've been in and out of this place a few times with my Mac. I've never experienced them being anything but laid back and friendly. Each time I feel satisfied and know that I've saved money. After the Apple Store told me that the water damage to my computer was going to cost me over $800 (and that I should look into getting a new computer) and that it would take 2 weeks to fix, I came to Orramac and it ended up being less than a quarter of the Apple price and it was finished in 2 days. 4 months later and my Mac is still running good as new. read more
